We lived in No. Cali in the early 1970's. A couple moved into town to start the first Mexican restaurant there. When the lady heard our family had never had Mexican food before she invited us over. I will never forget, she had an entire table full of so many dishes!!! My favorite was a tostada. It was so great how they went all out to introduce us to their food. Great food. And my favorite still to this day.
Wait not trying to be funny but mexicans weren't in northern Cali in the 70s ? I lived in Southern Cali for a few years not 70s but I wish I feel like I would've thrived as a teen in 70s
You saying, "folding it turns a tostada into a taco" reminds me of a Billy Connelly bit from one of his stand-up routines. He says all Mexican food is the same thing, just folded differently. He does a bit where he calls over the waiter to say that he ordered something different, and the waiter just grabs his meal and re-folds it 😅
LOL, it's largely the truth! Same kinda goes for Italian...their dishes are largely pasta and tomato sauce based. If you ever travel to Asia (especially Taiwan and China), their cuisine as exponentially more varied than western styles.
That's true of Taco Bell, but not true of authentic Mexican food. There are NO folding of tortillas involved with tamales, gorditas, sopes, or torta sandwiches, just to name a few examples. Mexicans usually enjoy their tortillas on the side, using them like utensils, tearing pieces off and pinching or scooping up their food with them.

My sister has been making tacos with raw hamburger inside the corn tortilla since 1970 or before! She heats up the tortilla right on the flame just to make it soft, put hamburger on half of it and fold it in half and put a toothpick on it to keep it folded closed and make a stack of these on a plate (30 or so) and then fry them with oil in a pan and then bring all the cooked crispy tacos to the table on a platter where she had all the ingredients in bowls dices tomato, onion, cilantro, lettuce, cheese, chiles & salsa and our family (mom & dad plus 8 kids) would sit around the table put a few on your plate take the toothpick out and fill them with your favorite ingredients and the meat was cooked perfectly inside the corn tortilla never having actually touched the griddle. I'm blessed to still have my mom & dad plus all of my siblings still alive today (plus a ton of nephews & nieces and great nephews & nieces) praise God for that! And we still love my sister's fried tacos to this day!

That to me is reminiscent of the American chalupa. Not the Mexican chalupa cuz the Mexican chalupa is basically a flour tortilla that has been left flat and fried into like a hard chip and then basically like an open-faced Taco it's just piled with basically Taco fixings on top. Kind of like a tostada except two starters are made with corn tortillas that are flat and open-faced whereas the chalupa is the same thing but with a flour tortilla. But the American chalupa it's basically like Indian fry bread that's turned into a taco
The breakfast one appeals to me most, but that’s because I like breakfast at any time of the day. I think I would prefer corn tortillas over flour tortillas for the ground beef, but I wouldn’t turn either one down😁. Thanks for sharing!
When I was a child the mexican ladies that worked for my grandparents taught us to make tacos similarly. We use a corn tortilla, spread the meat over half of it and sprinkle some garlic salt. Then put it in about 1/8 " of hot oil and cook until nicely browned. then the cheese lettuce and salsa were added at the plate. I still make them like this and have been for the last 50 Years (I've been making them since I was 12) They are a family favorite.

This is kind of how my grandmother always made my birthday chorizo tacos...except she put the meat and cheese in a corn tortilla and pan-fried them in lard.
This is similar to how traditional sliders were made. Raw patties with holes punched out were laid on a bed of onions steaming in water, and the bottom bun was laid right on top, steaming the bun with the flavors of the meat and onion. The steam cooks everything through and makes it 100% safe. And IDK about anyone else, but sliders are super tasty.

Flip the toppings down. Cook until the cheese is fried. Remove to a plate. For breakfast eat as is. For lunch top with lettuce, red onion, and hot sauce (to taste).

I gotta try these! The breakfast taco looks best to me! On the hamburger taco I would sprinkle some taco seasoning to get that taco flavor. Then I would make one to taste like I like my burger with Worcestershire sauce garlic powder salt and pepper. Of course gotta have grilled onions and Mayo lettuce cheese and pickles.
I'm saving this video right into my recipe playlist where I will likely forget about it, but right now I like to feel like I'm going to make this someday.

I just subscribed. Wonderful presentation. Loved the dropped egg🥚. I originally saw this taco idea on lowcarblove. She did a mcdonalds burger, sauce and all. I like your breakfast one, it would be great when we are camping. Thx.
I just made the burger ones today. Omg. Delicious!!! Fyi - I used 80/20 hamburger and might have made mine a tad thinner than yours. There was MINIMAL grease. Imo, just enough to flip and have the tortilla side get crispy. I did lay mine on a paper sack, as they were done. I just did cheese until we actually ate them. Then we added lettuce, onion, tomato, pickle, mustard. Viola! Thank you for sharing!!! New suscriber!
My moms family has been doing this since the 40s or before but my mom can remember her mom doing this when she was a little girl in the 40s but my grandmother and mother use corn tortillas then we add all the taco trimmings
@@Goldieslaxx9 for us yes flour will get kinda mushy corn will toast on the out side when the meat lets go of its grease so it keeps its integrity we love them with corn
should have small diced the potatoes and cooked in butter. The hash browns made it hard to fold. You could even cook the veggies with the potatoes and get the flavor throughout. Definitely going to try it.
Been doing this for decades. I use corn tortillas. I put the hamburger on half of the tortilla put it in meduim hot oil. When the tortilla becomes pliable, fold the tortilla cook for 2 minutes on each side, pull then put whatever ingredients you want. They are amazing. Ill have to try these for sure.
@StoneTheCrow It's fried in a pan with oil. I assure you that the meat is being cooked, and it definitely is not gross, or I wouldn't be preparing it like that.
I’ve been curious about this method. Finally someone I know I can trust made it 😂. That first one looked great, I’m all about mustard and pickles on a burger myself. That breakfast version was a whole ‘nother level. The possibilities with this are seemingly endless. As Matt with Meat Church would say, “this recipe has a lot of latitude.” I may try my hand at a chorizo, egg and potato version next time I cook on my flat top. I feel like the flavorful grease would almost give the tortilla a birria-like taste and color. Another grand slam as usual, amigo. Nice work! 👊
i was taught to make taquitos with raw minced seasoned beef, it makes them far easier to roll up and keep together. Trying to roll up crumbled cook hamburger meat is so difficult, it all falls out! i just mix my seasonings, raw onion, cheese mix and hamburger in a bowl, grab a reasonable scoop, make a sausage shape on the tortilla, and roll tightly. this way the meat doesn't overcook, and they are fantastic!
Hey, I just found this channel, this made me hungry, and I think that I am going to try these. Ohhh, what if we add taco seasoning to the ground beef. Looks delicious!
My family has been making an actual taco version of this for over 50 years. I never thought to turn it into a burger experience!. ❤ Thank you for sharing!
Looks delish and you just gave me an idea. Instead of these meats I would replace it with chorizo. Then top it with some pinto beans and cheese, salsa, and BAAM. I want it NOW!!
I definitely want to try this next time the kids spend the weekend. We make our own breakfast sausage and have fresh eggs. I might even make some homemade tortillas. Fresh onions and jalapeño from the garden as well. I'm looking forward to trying this recipe. Thanks for sharing.
Looks delicious. But...I'm from South Texas. I never heard of a toastada til I moved to the Austin area. We always called them chalupas. Also my wife was like " I'd love to see him do that with pancake batter" toastada, chalupa, pancake batter or not, it looks delicious!!!
Applebees did it first many years ago and its called a 'Quesadilla Burger'. Comes with 2 slices of pepper jack cheese, applewood smoked bacon, pico de gallo, shredded lettuce and mexi-ranch sauce. And they are absolutely amazing. They arent folded like a taco or flat like a tostada. The tortillas are the buns. You're welcome.
Every single Latino I know says it hyper like that, even if they spent most of their life in Australia (where I live)… my ex husband is from El Salvador and grow up in Aus (moved here 36 years ago) but suddenly sounds like he arrived yesterday when he says tortilla
It's more of a burger not a taco...instead of a bun for the bread they are using a tortilla for the bread. Other than the tortilla there is nothing "taco" about it.
See I'm gonna do this, except I'm gonna put taco seasoning in the beef before I spread it out on the tortilla. Then after I cook it, I'll put taco toppings and sour cream on top. No pickles or mustard.
I started making these, I sprinkle taco seasoning and dried onion on the top side of the beef before grilling. All I add is a slice of american cheese and it’s amazing! Not much fussing.
TikTok did it this time…..
you don't put cheese on real tacos, at least not that gross shit. wtf do you think you're putting on here? GTFO with this trash you sell out loser.
Thanks for sharing! That was my recipe. Love your take on it 🙌 Many cultures add raw beef to breads and grill, that’s how I was inspired.

Made the sausage taco this morning, it was great. I made some fresh pico to cut through the fattiness. Delicious 😊
I really need to get me a griddle!!! This looks amazing - can't wait to try this. Thank you for sharing!!💜
loved the recipe, the changes, the humor and the personality..so cool
I'm saving this video right into my recipe playlist where I will likely forget about it, but right now I like to feel like I'm going to make this someday.
You definitely need to make it!! it is easy and delicious!!
This looks delicious!! Now to see how low fat I can make it
Cheeseburger tacos. The perfect combination of American and Mexican cuisine. I got to try these soon. They look freaking amazing.
So dang good!
If you think about it. Hamburger, cheese, lettuce, onion and tomatoes and sauce... Tacos are actually Cheeseburgers in a different bread.
@@armastat😂
The algorithm just brought me to you, and I’m glad for it! Great video, funny, no nonsense and great tips and tricks! Thanks! 🙏🏼
I am subscribing to your channel based 100% on you dropping the egg. for some reason that was way funnier than it should have been.
and that breakfast sausage tortilla looks amazing!
have a fantastic day!
😂😂😂
I laughed so hard when I first watched it back tbh. Glad you thought it was as funny as I did! The breakfast one was killer!!
I did the same - it was funny, it was real, and a perfect 10 on recovery. I felt like I would be missing out on life, if I didn't subscribe. CHEERS!!! Now I gotta get a flat top.
Hahaha! I appreciate you!
I subbed for that too! 😂
I'd totally do this with the street taco sized tortillas because there's no way I could eat that size (okay I could) but I need to be able to move afterward! lol Taco Sliders... lol THAT breakfast sausage taco looks absolutely delicious with the jalapenos and onions and the hashbrowns... with the drippy egg on top...oh lawd. lol I think I need a mop for the drool. I'm just getting over a cold and finally got my appetite and tastebuds back! lol
🙄 yes it’s too big
Great cook that learns by his mistakes and corrects it instead of just serving it. He makes sure he is giving or recommending the very best
I'm going to try this. I think I'll only put meat on half the tortilla so there's more room for folding. Looks so good
Or just put half as much meat across. That way the whole thing still cooks evenly, and it's easier to fold and eat.
The second version looks and sounds so much better than the OG version.
I just subscribed. Wonderful presentation. Loved the dropped egg🥚. I originally saw this taco idea on lowcarblove. She did a mcdonalds burger, sauce and all. I like your breakfast one, it would be great when we are camping. Thx.
Awesome video. New to your channel but you are doing a great job!! Keep it up. I will be following!!
I'm glad you're here! I hope to keep putting out videos that you will enjoy for a long time!
man my mouth is literally watering while watching this, they both look amazing (especially the sausage one)....
I will try this, the second one with the pork, jalapeño, onion, hash browns, and eggs. Looks and sound delicious.
I bet a little salsa and sour cream on the breakfast one would be fire!!
Oh for sure!
I was SUPER skeptical! but BOTH versions came out looking AMAZING!!!
Precook the burger to seal in the juices before planning on the shell. Make pattie a lil larger than shell to allow for shrinkage👍
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I definitely should have gone thinner!!
Everything looks delicious. Thank you for sharing 🙂.
Wow I will try that next time. Thanks.
We've been doing this all weekend. Soooooo good!
My Ebony Queen do you like authentic Mexican food?
My moms family has been doing this since the 40s or before but my mom can remember her mom doing this when she was a little girl in the 40s but my grandmother and mother use corn tortillas then we add all the taco trimmings
Its called a Volcan, idiot.
Is the corn tortillas better than flour tortillas?
@@Goldieslaxx9 for us yes flour will get kinda mushy corn will toast on the out side when the meat lets go of its grease so it keeps its integrity we love them with corn
@@juanrascon7743 ohhh I see that makes sense, thank you!
this channel has taught me so much. I respect him so much thank you for all your help!
Make this with finely diced sirloin on a corn tortilla. chopped cabbage onion and cilantro. Top with green sauce. squeeze of lime wedge.
LOL!!!!😂 Yes, A Chef that show's that egg didn't go as planned. Hitting the Sub button. I think the breakfast one is for the WIN.
🤩🤩🤩 that looks GOOD! wow thanks for this man, egg fail was super funny to 😁i like and sub.
Okay both of those tacos look incredible!!! I think the breakfast tacos would be SO GOOD!!!
So so good!
I made the burger one but no mustard. I added an asadero and crema, plus tomatoes. You rock!
Would this work the same in a frying pan on the stove?
That looks like a delicious breakfast taco brother. I'm going to try that next weekend!
Nah you should try it today
should have small diced the potatoes and cooked in butter. The hash browns made it hard to fold. You could even cook the veggies with the potatoes and get the flavor throughout. Definitely going to try it.
Oh damn! Great idea there! I’ll give that a go next time! For my first try at these, I did love them!
Uuuhhhhmmmm, YUMMY!!! I cannot WAIT to try the breakfast version! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Yes me too I put my taco seasoning, minced garlic put it on half corn tortilla and do as you said I've done this for a long time too amazing.😊
Sounds like your meat isn't touching the cooking surface, sounds like gross undercooked meat to me
@StoneTheCrow It's fried in a pan with oil. I assure you that the meat is being cooked, and it definitely is not gross, or I wouldn't be preparing it like that.
@@rickloera9468 The meat isn't touching the cooking surface, it's being steamed inside the tortilla son, it's unsanitary
@@StoneTheCr0wdo you have any proof?
I’ve been curious about this method. Finally someone I know I can trust made it 😂.
That first one looked great, I’m all about mustard and pickles on a burger myself.
That breakfast version was a whole ‘nother level.
The possibilities with this are seemingly endless. As Matt with Meat Church would say, “this recipe has a lot of latitude.”
I may try my hand at a chorizo, egg and potato version next time I cook on my flat top. I feel like the flavorful grease would almost give the tortilla a birria-like taste and color.
Another grand slam as usual, amigo. Nice work! 👊
Possibilities are endless, for sure! I loved them and I think you for sure should try them out my brotha!
Ngl I’ve never seen your videos but I’m really enjoying your skepticism while also trying to be educational.
i was taught to make taquitos with raw minced seasoned beef, it makes them far easier to roll up and keep together.
I’m really glad I came across your page! Great stuff you have to offer! Definitely going to order some seasonings
Sending blessings and light
Wait, Whataburger makes sausage?? 😯 Both of these look amazing BTW. I will definitely be trying both this coming week. Thanks for the video.
Breakfast taco looks insane!! When I make it, I'm making it as a burrito!
Oh myyyyy! That’s a great idea!!
My family has been making an actual taco version of this for over 50 years. I never thought to turn it into a burger experience!. ❤ Thank you for sharing!
That breakfast taco was amazing. I’m going to make this for sure. 👍🏻😊
Yo, the breakfast taco looked amazing and I’m definitely going to try that! New sub from me
Looks delish and you just gave me an idea. Instead of these meats I would replace it with chorizo. Then top it with some pinto beans and cheese, salsa, and BAAM. I want it NOW!!
These were a win! I loved it!
Me too! We have to figure out another way to make them!
It’s the breakfast tacos for me…🔥🔥🔥 great job
Thanks so much!
Damn can’t wait to try!! I’m leaning towards the breakfast though
I’m with you! It was better IMO!!
Umm, that's a lie. Applebee's Quesadilla Burger is a hamburger that uses tortilla instead of a bun. But it is a 'burger'. This is a taco.
That Quesadilla burger is the only thing I get from there. Really good
Why does he become hyper hispanic when he says tortilla?
Right lol 😆
Every single Latino I know says it hyper like that, even if they spent most of their life in Australia (where I live)… my ex husband is from El Salvador and grow up in Aus (moved here 36 years ago) but suddenly sounds like he arrived yesterday when he says tortilla
I hear this all the time. lol. Perfect English then heavy accent on certain words or names. Spanglish almost.
Sounds good
Because tortilla is a Spanish word…
The only thing that killed it for me was the mustard. I’d substitute it with ketchup or cholula hot sauce. But those tacos looked awesome otherwise.
Awesome just awesome. I can’t believe it looks so good and I can’t wait to try. I’m eating some as soon as I can. Thanks a lot bye
The way he says tortilla has me cracking up 🤣
Like a Spanish speaker pronounces a word in Spanish?
Keep calling a tostada a taco; I'm sure it'll catch on.
Ive been looking for a recipe like yours for ever thank you i could never get mine that creamy thank goodness for you love your recipe. ❤❤😊
Dude made a cheese burger with a different type of bread.
Gross, WHO puts mustard & pickles on a taco? I guess to each their own! :)
Cubans, B...
It's more of a burger not a taco...instead of a bun for the bread they are using a tortilla for the bread. Other than the tortilla there is nothing "taco" about it.
When it is a cheeseburger taco.......
pickles, grilled and chopped jalapenos, drizzled ranch, even chicfila sauce is nice.. but mustard on a burger goes good too.. but not for a taco.
See I'm gonna do this, except I'm gonna put taco seasoning in the beef before I spread it out on the tortilla. Then after I cook it, I'll put taco toppings and sour cream on top. No pickles or mustard.
Loved the Taco, got real hungry going to make 2 now w/o the Killer hogs (that'll be next time). Thx!
Good job for not editing that egg thing out , keep it real. Looks good I'll be trying it
I started making these, I sprinkle taco seasoning and dried onion on the top side of the beef before grilling. All I add is a slice of american cheese and it’s amazing! Not much fussing.
do you cook with the same heat throughout? Won't the tortillas get a little burnt if you cook them for a while?
Thanks
DUDE... They Both Look So Good Bro. I Got To Make Them .... Thank You Brother. Gona Have To Make Them In A Pan ,. Thats All I Got.
