    Got to get that griddle HOT. Wide open. You want it smoking. Use flax seed oil. Pour a bit of oil on the griddle, dip a paper towel in the oil, use tongs to apply oil. It'll smoke and stink...flax seed will give almost a fish oil smell. Cover everything. The top, sides, front, back, outside of cook top. Let burn for at least 10 minutes. Repeat at least four times. I did 10 times. Process was an hour and a half. After seasoned, cook a whole pound of bacon.
    It'll give a black, glass like sheen.
    To resurface, use a scraper, sandpaper and a pressure washer. Get it all off, wash with soap and water, then DRY IMMEDIATELY....then season.
    Simple clean with a scrapper and water, with heat on high. Always clean after each cook. Turn heat off....coat with oil every time.

    • @Trenton461
      @Trenton461 2 месяца назад +5

      I always use corn oil. I can’t stand that flax seed smell. It just bakes into my clothing and follows me until I wash it all out. The smoke point of corn oil is also way higher which, in my experience, makes seasoning your surface a bit more forgiving, it just takes longer.
      I’m also vegan, so I don’t use meat/animal fat to finish my seasoning. Usually a generous amount of chopped onions, peppers, zucchini, and some tofu with a splash of sesame oil will do the trick. Plus you get a pretty solid basic stir fry once you’re done.
      A high firmness tofu is also just a really good tool which I used when I was first trying to figure out how to season my flattop. Especially if it’s been pressed, if your surface isn’t properly seasoned, it will stick and crumble as soon as it hits heat. A little water and a scraper will take off any residue if you need to.

    • @UnforgivenTrucker
      @UnforgivenTrucker 2 месяца назад +13

      Corn oil does have a higher smoke point; true. However flax seed produces a much harder polymerization. You want that glass like hard surface. A higher smoke point oil will be more soft.
      As for the rest, you lost me at "I'm also vegan." But, you do you. Happy cooking.

      @lindsaymarie1984 I have an air fryer and an oven, but can’t compare to black stone. The oven takes about 30 minutes more than the air fryer to crisp on average. It can honestly be a bit annoying to cook in an air fryer with certain frozen products, bc I notice it cooks to similar to the temp time of a stove for my frozen products.

      The grill wasn’t even hot when she put the fries down. Watch how the oil just sits instead of spreading out. Also putting frozen fries on your metal top is going to suck all the heat out of it.

She thought she knew better and didn’t. It’s ok to make mistakes. Doesn’t mean everyone has to run to your rescue. You have to make mistakes to learn. Next time she will remember. So I actually work at an Ace Hardware and am one of the Grill Salesmen there. Blackstones are just an ok grill, but for an entry-level grill, they are for sure worth the price. The pnly issues is the raised griddle, which allows air to get inside the area where the hurners are. If it was a windy day, that could very well explain the issues. Also, finding the right heat level is important. The best advice is if you use a skillet at home, cook the food on the black stone similarly to how you would on a skillet. There is some variation but thats what a blackstone essentially is a big skillet.

Best thing, lots of butter, breakfast food works the best, meat, and buttered bread. Yet I’m sure you know that. Also you can make pasta on it. Pre cook it then dump it on with butter and the cheese/toppings and mix together. Again you probably know that since you’ve gotten better. Never give up lady. 🙂

    When you season a flat top first use soapy water this is the only time you will use it after a scrup and wipe dry. Then using any oil or the jar blackstone has for seasoning and protection put a couple spoonfuls down, and wipe all over that flat top the sides the back and the main area for cooking. Then turn on your blacks tone full blast and wait for it to smoke off that 1st layer of oil. Then once it’s done smoking guess what second coat and keep repeating this process till it’s black like cast iron skillet at crackle barrel. And your done then after your cooking always while hot scrap off clean and put another layer of oil smear around with a paper towel to keep it protected.
