    Thanks for the video. One comment for everyone. If you take off the top heat shield, O2 sensor, oil dip stick you can pull the alternator right out the top rather than taking off the whole front end of the car. Just remove the top brace and pops right out!
    Saves a ton of time and heart ache. Wanted no part in removing the bumper.

      Thanks for this info! Saved me a ton of time and headaches on my R60 Countryman S ALL4. I removed the VANOS Solenoid as well to make additional room. Overall, a much easier process.

      @@codybaum7408 can you tell me exactly what you removed to get it out and replaced? I've previously pulled off the whole front end of my 2012 R60 non-turbo. I'm trying to follow what you are saying to avoid that big effort, but it is unclear to me how to make room for the removal/install. THANK YOU! Paul

    • @codybaum7408
      @codybaum7408 3 года назад +2

      @@paulc2953, the parts I removed in additional to those mentioned above were the VANOS Solenoid which is located directly under the oil dip stick bracket. It looks like a metal cylinder with a plug on the end and has wires running up to the left side of the valve cover. I also removed the metal front support that mounts in front of each strut tower and that the grille screws into. That gave me enough room to get the alternator out. It did not look like it would fit but with some caressing it did.

    Replaced an alternator today on a mini did the same as you dropped the AC pump out they way. the rest was easy to do. Also replaced the tensioner assembly as the pulley was in poor condition together with a new drive belt

    Thanks for the video, I started dismantling the front end of my countryman before I found your channel. I bought the Chinese version of the tensioner release tool so I didn’t have to jack the engine up. I dropped the Ac compressor out first, I had the the refrigerant removed by a local shop beforehand. There was something wrong with the ac anyway and found that the coil was bad. When I removed the compressor I spilled some of the oil out of it and need to replace. Do you happen to know how much oil and what type of oil is used in the countryman, I can’t find it on the interweb.

    Wouldn't that compressor hang with the hoses still attached??? Looks like they is some slack after removing their clamps ,just to wingle the alternator out without disconnecting the ac lines ..just asking

    • @codybaum7408
      @codybaum7408 3 года назад +1

      Late reply but came across this video recently. I attempted this just to see before putting it into service mode and there wasn't enough room. Unfortunately, on the passenger side of the compressor there is a metal hose that runs towards the rear that doesn't allow enough flex to squeeze the alternator passed.

    • @paulc2953
      @paulc2953 3 года назад +1

      @@codybaum7408 so did you have to put the R60 into service mode and pull the alternator out from the top? I was hoping to avoid service mode, but perhaps it is unavoidable? Thank you!

    Hi, helpful video!
    Unfortunately I don't have an AC machine, so I'm attempting to get the modular front end to slide forward on the sub frame. I have the two side mounted bolts near the headlight mounts removed, as well as the 4 underside bolts connecting the sub frame. I seem to be stuck in the center. I have 2 16mm nuts removed on either side. Can anyone more familiar with the R60 confirm how many bolts need to be removed in the center to get the front end to slide on the sub frame?
    Much appreciated!

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  4 года назад

      Hey, I appreciate your comment. Unfortunately I'm not too incredibly familiar with putting these into service position so I wouldn't be of much help without seeing it. Did you get it rectified yet?

    • @ka890athotmailcom

      @@NoNonsenseKnowHow yep, turns out you have to remove 1 additional bolt per side underneath where the 16mm nuts are found. accessible from the under side, facing into the engine bay. Real pain to get to

      @@MOzombieProductions Hey man, unfortunately (for you) and thankfully (for me), I haven't had anything require that much disassembly since swapping the alternator 2 years ago. I feel you.
      I vaguely recall removing the engine from it's mounts and jacking it up to give me more room underneath.
      Hopefully remembering correctly, the two bolts I had trouble finding were oriented so that the heads faced the rear of the car, tips towards the front end. They weren't easy to see without moving the engine out of the way. Best of luck, that job sucked.

    i don't understand why to remove AC linies and AC compressor, you can remove de alternator from above and on the bottom you can remove the alternator bolt with a small key, push the AC line and the bold will be out.
