You can do the same thing on an OG Mini in 5 mins!
Is possible with an oxygen Torch
Oh good. So you are only charging the customer 1 hour for removal right? The book time is 8-9 hours for removal.
J/K. Car Ninja’s speed and high level of knowledge is worth the full 8 hour charge. You dont get expert level knowledge at shade tree prices. Nor do you hire a high powered attorney, at public defender prices.
Agreed
You pay for the knowledge and experience or the time and if I had to choose I rather pay for the knowledge and experience of an expert.
Weeezard!
Just shows how much dealerships pad the book time to increase profit
Such an under appreciated and practiced school of thought by John q public. I agree 100%
Car Ninja is very very skilled in his trade. You guys are watching decades of hard work to get to that level.
Being hes a bmw mechanic, im sure hes had looooooots of practice on these things. They constantly need serious repairs.
Except when he put in the week fluid
The fact that Ninja is charging Hoovie the actual time and not book time is *extremely* generous. Imagine spending a decade plus honing your skills to get paid by the hour, effectively taking a paycut
@anotherYOUtubER you sure spend a lot of time thinking about other people's sexuality
Truf!!
Step#1 to removing Mini engine in 1 hour: Lock Hoovie in the men's room. Success assured.
On a newer, minty clean car and no Hoovie, I bet he could have done it in 1 hr.

“You are just going to observe, you aren’t going to interrupt”. Words well said ninja.
Hoovie agreed, then of course interrupted the Ninja many times. Typical of him, one could not expect otherwise.
There should be a sign on the wall with that exact phrase.
What an amazing mechanic ! Most mechanics don't work on Mini and BMW..... Always sending you to the dealership ! This would have cost 12k pluss Bmw Buffalo ! Ninja is an absolute great friend/mechanic! So impressive !
@ m ph ... a polite way of telling Hoovie to keep well away ;-)
@@SerbanCMusca-ut8ny That should at least be worth 25 minutes of hoovies-shenanigans, in my book the Ninja rocks, or better said, "kicks-rubber" did you see that ninja back kick! 5:33, off the charts!
I’ve going the Ninja an extra 25 minutes due to Tyler talking to him non-stop. 😂🤣
The Car Ninja back kicks the tire proving he really is a Ninja.
It still costs so much because the Ninja trained his whole life to be able to pull an engine in an hour. You pay for his skill.
@@KS-xo3oh it's still an benefit to the customer because they can get their car back faster 🙂
I think it was a joke.
Mechanics proving “book time” is a cruel joke. How long would a one-armed, tool-less piano player take to do the job. Yeah, we’ll pay that amount of time. When anyone with a shred of experience can shred the “book time” just how stupid do you think customers are?
I do my own until the tools get too expensive.
@@KS-xo3oh You only pay booktime when booktime is reasonable. As with any repair. Some rusty crapshoot car you don't want to think about booktime because the book says every bolt is clean and comes out in 2 seconds. Pricing is weird though.
I usually go by as long as both parties think they got a good deal its fine. But there are people for which any amount of money is too much.
@@markstevens1729 So if I train my whole life to be able to do a highly skilled job in 10 minutes rather than 1 hour like everyone else, I should charge for 10 minutes, 6 times less than the norm? Do you realize how stupid you sound?
There should be a "Hoovie Handicap" of at least 30 minutes for any of these timed challenges with either the Wizard or the Ninja if Tyler "helps" in any way.
@I WANT ŞĘX !!! SEE MY VÌDEÓ !!! stfu
60$ an hour labour, 80$ if you watch, 100$ an hour if you help.
True
Ninja's quiet confidence is on a whole nother level. He's come a long way from his first appearance on your channel. Seems like he opened up more and is more willing to put up with shenanigan
After doing the timing chain on my 07 Mini, I can confirm that this is absolutely insane. Shop time for the job was something like 13 hours.
Once I learned about "maintenance mode" on the MINI, fixing stuff got a lot easier. You can actually thread bolts into the frame rails so the whole front bumper and radiator move forward about 6". Now you can reach the stuff on the front of the engine that is almost definitely leaking. It's a fairly modular design overall.
Well Josh, looks like you got a super enthusiastic reply there. Amazing what threading bolts will get you.
And the most awkward ball shaver advertisement goes to hoovie!
Not by a long shot. Rich Rebuilds easily defends his title on that one.

The car ninja really is a ninja if he can get an engine out in 1 1/2 hours! . Extremely impressive.
This is what passes for progress in 2021. With the original 1961 Mini Cooper your granny could have changed the engine in an hour, and put it back.
@@davidjones332 I have actually removed an original mini engine. It was really easy but it still took me 3 hours, and this is far far more complicated.
@@terencehawkes3933 If you have a ramp, air tools, hoist and have done it before half an hour to take out and a bit longer to go in because of getting the bolts started. Regularly put engines from a 1300GT Austin/Wolesley etc into the Mini.

The Car Ninja makes every difficult job look easy. My Maserati clutch was no simple job, and I suspect this wasn't either. But he approaches each job with an optimism that is truly incredible, and he never gives up. Even when people are wandering around his shop with cameras all around him.
You had to mention Maserati... My engine put valves into pistons twice due to snapped timing and then a sudden seize of water pump. Not a fond memory.
We here in Dallas do not like the severe winter storms we had last week, either.

I’m still amazed that they crammed the engine in that little front end. You must have absolutely no room to work.
and they cook emsleves in no time, everything on em fails due to heat build up...
i often get engines out of minis, takes about a minute.
swing in the grab, rip off the bumper, swing the grab back in, lift the car by the grabbed engine, wiggle it and the car just falls away...
@Edgar Miller no Mini's have always been front engine
Welcome to Germany
@Edgar Miller what!?! I suggest some research is in order. The original Mini pretty much invented the transverse FWD drivetrain that is nearly a universal standard for passenger cars these days. Designed by Alec Issigonis.
Had this same exact car. Worst car I had ever owned. 2007 Cooper S had a turbo 4 cylinder Peugeot 206 motor that had constant trouble with the timing chain set, excessive oil consumption to the tune of a quart per fill up, and poorly designed gaskets for oil and antifreeze cooling that were baked at less than 75k miles requiring replacement. I also wound up replacing the turbo at around 72K, plus the gaskets for oil and antifreeze cooling. Wound up replacing belts too.
Required full removal of the front end of the car much like this here. Took a month total due to no garage and constant rain. Dealer wanted 6800, I did the work myself for 800.
I see a Ninja vs Wizard duel.......who can empty Hoovie’s wallet fastest.......:)
Wizard hands down. He is already on his second yacht.
Wizard for sure.
Toyotas at 100k miles: you should probably change the oil, totally your call though.
BMWs at 100k miles: you should probably just change the whole car.
This comment is dead on, balls (shaved obviously, thanks to Manscaped) accurate.

The Ninja comin atchya with the high kick on the left wheel!. I love how Hoovie called him the Wizard and sank back into the engine bay
Mechanics everywhere: "Please don't hover over us and be annoying while we work."
Hoovie: "What if we film it and set a 1 hour time limit?"
The beauty of those minis is once the front is removed they are very accessible and it's also a very cool looking car with classy interior.
"once the front is removed" at 100k miles I might add.
Great video. I have an '06 mini with 104k on it also, and plan on doing the 100k service as well this summer, so I'll be watching the rest of the video with interest. I don't think my engine has the oil leaks that Hoovies does, but the supercharger oil needs changing, and the whole "might as well" list.
Haha, "In the Hall of the Mountain King" is appropriate music for Mini Cooper engine removal, INTENSE.

Eagerly awaiting an update on this one. I love my mini and was stoked to see you picked one up. Once its done, you're gonna have a blast in it!
I love how Ninja is a master at his end of his craft and how humble and light hearted he is about it. Even for $6k Ninja makes you feel comfortable to spend that much lol
He got to get paid for his skills. It's like any job. You get what you pay for.
and it may work out cheaper this way in the long run with other parts needing replacing on the engine. None of the fiddling away in spaces that you can barely reach and cannot see into.
The ninja reminds me of Guido from the movie cars lol
Pee-t stop!
Reminds me of working on my 1968 Mini, nearly 30 yrs ago. Once you have taken them out a few times they are quite easy. Nice work Ninja!
Always a joy watching the Ninja work.......no BS just getting the job done. His channel has become my favorite automotive "fix it" channel. His competence and confidence is top notch
Hoovie is lucky to have found not one but two great mechanics. Wish I could find just one that was as knowledgeable and honest as the ninja and wizard.
Hoovie: Blah Blah Blah?

That was a fairly amazing job getting that all apart in less than 1 1/2 hours. Wow. You deal with two amazing mechanics Hoovie.

I personally love the r53 mini been wanting one fore a while they aren't the fastest but they sure are fun and easy to work on ive had an engine out in about 2 hours. Like the fiat 500s did a swap on one of those in a day. Love how they just slide out the front

The more parts that get replaced, the more desirable that MINI becomes.

24 min is what it takes when the owner is Hovering! You should call this Hoovies Hovering episode...
Love the pulley mod! It's gonna help with lower end power. For some reason upgrading to a slightly thicker gauge wires also helps this car, the way motor works wires actually make a difference.
Also should check the rear and crank seal, those leak a ton, easy to spot as I'm sure he'll find them. If he was swaps out the crank pulley with an upgraded one that would be worth adding to the bill.
It is an absolute pleasure to watch Johnny work. He is a total pro.
Practice makes perfect, and BMW has given him the opportunity to get a lot of practice.
I typically skip the advertisement portions of the videos, but knowing Hoovies personality, I had to watch him talk about ball products.
Maybe i should order one of those manscaped kits.

5:32 that Ninja kick technique !
I love that car. used to have one with 35k miles. Supercharged 1.6 engine, was super nice to drive
Good to see a pro in action. An hour 24 minutes is not bad at all, given they charge you six hour for the operation. Reminds me of my time working to make small roads in an estate project. They gave us a month on a 50m stretch and we needed 3 days until tarmac ready. Had to wait for those guys, but still my boss was impressed. I got transferred to the airport maintenance crew, to get things going faster. We had to work very fast, then drive off while planes landed and took off again, then back to work again.
If that was my garage, I’d have Hoovie sat in the waiting room with a cup of coffee and nowhere near me. “I call you when it’s ready”.
He’s a beast. And that’s how money is made.
I really like the ninjas attitude. Polite, calm, knowledgeable, humorous, and never dumps on people. I can imagine that that combined with his incredible knowledge makes for a very well run garage with loyal customers.
Thanks!!
13:32 the winter storm affected me getting my replacement catalysts for my Aveo on time as well; FedEx had a MASSIVE backlog in my local area to where my parts were delayed until yesterday afternoon and i had to do a late night 3 hour wrenching session last night after i got home from work to get them installed so I could finally drive my car after being out of commission for two weeks.
