Tundra Won't Accelerate FIXED - VSC & Engine light on

  • This is a quick video showing the basics on the secondary air pump system that causes Toyota vehicles to throw a check engine light and go into limp mode - The problem is the secondary air pump(s) draw in moisture and fill up the housing with water over time. This causes the pumps to short out & the air injection valves to rust & sieze up in the open position. This is why your vehicle might be stuck in limp mode and have the VSC & Traction control lights on. If you are unable to accelerate on the highway & the check engine light is on, it is most likely for the secondary control valves or the air pumps. This will help show you a break down of what is going on & hopefully help you get you Tundra or Sequoia back up & running

    Had that repair done on my 2008 5.7 which was out of warranty. Check engine light with two codes and bank 2 however vehicle never went into limp mode. In fact check engine light came on right before a 2000 mile trip. Toyota said it was safe to drive for the entire trip just kept the RPMs low.
    Total cost was 2600 and I reached out to Toyota Motor Corporation for assistance and they cut me a check for 1900. Design flaw

      Hey Chris how old was your 08 when it happened? I’ve heard these specific parts are warrantied to 10/150,000 because it is a known issue. Just happened to my 08 with 136,000 so I am probably out of luck with it being older than 10 years.

    • @csotelo225
      @csotelo225 3 года назад +1

      @@nicegunt let's see the year is 2021 I had the repair done if I'm not mistaken in 2019.. it was past the 10 years... what ended up happening was since it's my third Toyota the service manager assisted me on what to say to Toyota Motor Corporation when I gave them a buzz to reach out for help.
      Toyota Motor Corporation are extremely friendly people and there's a good chance if you're a valued customer and you've bought more than one truck from them they will take your name and number and get back to you in a few days after they do an investigation. That's exactly what they did with me. Since it was my third Toyota they decided to cover 80% of the cost. They just send the check directly to the dealer who's fixing your Toyota. You can only get this assistance through Toyota Motor Corporation if you take the truck to a Toyota dealer for the repair.
      In my case I had all the services and minor repairs done at the same toyou do so they had my whole service record. It's a very expensive repair if you don't have assistance but there's another option...
      I did a lot of research and there's a kit you can buy which will bypass the secondary air pumps . From what I understand the kit is a couple hundred dollars and it may even be able to be put in by yourself I don't think you'll need the dealer... there's hundred the RUclips videos on how you purchase the kit and where and they talk you through it step-by-step but basically it'll bypass your secondary air pumps and then you just go to the dealer and have the check engine light turned off and you'll be all clear so that you can get an inspection sticker. Basically the truck will run just as it did before you just won't have secondary air pumps since you'll have the bypass unit... if you don't do the bypass unit then you're going to have to do the repair through a certified technician just use caution and don't drive the truck very fast and high RPM while that check engine light is still on...may go into limp mode and if it does it cost you an arm and a leg to take it out of limp mode and then still have the repair done. That mode will activate to protect any components from being damaged..
      Good luck bro

    • @csotelo225
      @csotelo225 3 года назад +3

      @@nicegunt if the dealer does your repair then the new secondary air pumps will be the updated models that have the little covers and slats so that water can't get in. It was a simple design flaw that they put on the 08 and moisture gradually made its way up all the way to the pumps which are located at the top of the engine... you're looking at no less than $2,500 and I've even heard another States depending on where you live and maybe as high as 3500 to 4000..

So far so good, may be worth a shot before spending a ton of money.

Very easy to change out . I also learned to buy OEM parts because the generic ones last a year if you’re lucky .

    • @brianguilmette
      @brianguilmette 2 года назад +2

      Fuse is popping for some reason. Most likely you're getting water in the air pump and it's causing the air pump to work harder and causing the fuse to pop so at the very least I would drill some holes on the bottom to get the water out and to do it properly you need to replace the one way valves so that air doesn't flow on both directions. The reason I think water gets in the pumps is because the valves fail and exhaust is going into the air pump and exhaust has moisture in it.

    Most likely you're getting water in the air pumps. I would drill some holes on the bottom line you did to get the water out and The reason I think water gets in the pumps is because the one way valves fail and exhaust is going into the air pump and exhaust has moisture in it.
    I wonder if a cheap one way hair valve that hot tubs and spas use on their air pump systems would fix the valves from leaking back to the air pumps. They sell one and a half and two inch pipes that look like about the same size as the failed valves you show it in the video. Could be a $20 fix without having to dig out the old Air valves. But the way you did it it's the right way and it's going to last for a long time especially now that you have holes in the bottom.

    Hi. Thanks for the video. The secondary airpump; is that suppose to rotate when ignition is on? Mine is not. I am currently troubleshooting a C1201 code that has the same exact symptoms like your truck - vsc flashing, ABS on, engine light on. I have a 2007 tundra ltd. Please help.

      It's pretty much just a direct Plug & Play. However there are some exhaust block off plates that are strongly advised to install to prevent further damage to the valve assembly. If you just install the module kit without the block off plates it will still work and run correctly without a check engine light

    I took the ECB-1 fuse out and the check engine light is still on.

    A stuck open Valve will cut power... a stuck shut valve will turn engine light on. An give you 10 mpg cos it Messes up the Second O2 Sensor...Making the truck run almost like a choke is on. :( I am not a fan of Toyota after this being my 12 one... this is by far the worse TOYOTA I've ever owned.

      It's not new,those are the previous models and are 07 to 11 approx. So that many years is gonna give you problems due to wear and tear. I just fixed mine on that same issue and by looking at the truck,you could swear it's new, but mechanically, the parts get old and break down.
