    Hey I just used this video as a guide for the installation on my 05 Sequoia and I’m truly grateful for this . Just wanted to share a tip that worked for me . In my case I live in IL so the bolts were rusted ( as expected) so PB Blaster is my friend ( spray and let sit for a day ) it does make life easier. Also I found the on the driver side you gain more access if you remove the front tire and lit it up . Good luck to whoever is doing this kit.

    Great video guys! I finally cleared my codes on my 05 Sequoia after buying the Hewitt bypass kit and by following your clear and detailed video. Very grateful for this video as the dash warning lights being on all the time was driving me nuts. Just some feedback for your viewers. I had the p1442 and p1445 codes come up on mine. Because these codes mean that the valves are 'shut', I didn't install the block off plates out of fear of breaking a stud off. Common sense told me that if the valve is shut, that it is already blocked off. Installed the bypass kit, cleared my codes and boom, no more dash lights on. So stoked. Here's the huge bonus for me. I also had my ABS and e brake warning lights lit up on my dash also before installing this bypass kit. I couldn't believe it when those lights went off after installing the kit. So bizarre. Brakes felt totally fine when my dash was lit up like a Christmas tree and I had an appointment the very next day at a brake shop to diagnose why those warning lights were on. I got a 2 for 1 by installing this kit and couldn't be happier. Has saved me a shit tonne of money. Thanks again guys, for the great video and thanks Hewitt Tech for an absolute brilliant product! However, out of habit, I still find myself constantly looking down at my dash, checking for warning lights on, after doing it for so long, lol.

    You guys are great thanks for the awesome detailed video and all the help!
    2006 4.7 V8 here;
    I was able to successfully install the kit by myself in a few hours.
    The block off plates looked intimidating getting to the bolts, but I have to say I found that to be relatively easy thankfully!
    I was able to reach 3 out of 4 bolts from the top with a small ratchet & both short & deep sockets.
    Had to hit 1 from underneath on passenger side.
    I also have long monkey arms.
    Hardest part was feeding the wire into the loom haha which I had to go buy because Hewitt did not include the loom with my kit.
    Thanks again!

    Thanks for the great video and not skipping any of the 'obvious' steps. My 2009 Tundra threw the P2440 code this morning; I've only had the truck for 3 months, so I was upset to learn this was a common problem and that the Customer Support Program to address this expired in Jan 2019. Worse, I learned that my truck had this problem "corrected" in May 2016, yet here it is again. I'll be doing this for sure. Turning wrenches sure ain't like it used to be.

    Got this done this morning in about an hour and a half by myself. Passenger side was a little more difficult and I did it from underneath. Driver side was easier and I was able to do it from up above. Be careful not to strip any of the nuts. The multimeter never gave me the same reading that it did on this video, but it did work. Thank you

      Forest To Farm the crazy thing is. The only reason for is to reduce emissions. There hands are tied by the Emissions inspection office or who ever sets those standards. One of those added parts that was required to reduce crap in the air... but yes, if it happens again this will be my next go to.

    • @ForestToFarm
      @ForestToFarm  4 года назад +2

      And what is really crazy is it only does that reduced emissions until the catalytic converter gets warmed up which is probably less than a minute or two.

      FYI on a 2007 tundra 4.7L, block out plate on passenger side is impossible to get to with metal heater core hoses running in front of it. Work around by following that exhaust hose that you're blocking back up to the side of the engine block. The other end of that metal hose connects to another spot with the exactly the same kind of connection, block it there.

    This is a good video for 2 sets of eyes to add the blocking plates. One down below to help guide the worker above trying to loosen the blind nuts. If you are working alone, like I was, I found that taking off the wheel, removing the plastic pins holding the top of the rubber flap and dropping it down out of the way, gave me visual access to both nuts to loosen and add the blocking plates. If you need some help with corrosion on the nuts, mix equal parts acetone, and auto trans fluid and apply to the nuts.

      Will it pass California smog inspection after bypassing the code?

  • @swordfish1120
    @swordfish1120 11 месяцев назад +1

    On my 05 Tundra I had a stuck bank 1 Sec air inj ck valve code P2440, but I ended up pulling the valve without removing the intake sys. Enough room exists in the back providing you lay a thick foam cushion across your engine and lay on the pad. Also, you'll need a 1/4" swivel head ratchet with tight gearing. I bought the Titan 90 tooth swivel head from O'rielly Auto Parts for $17. This is critical to get the two long 10mm bolts on the valve. You should disconnect the vacuum lines that run to the passenger side solenoids because it makes it easier to get the valve out before you disconnect the vacuum line on the removed valve. I ended up cleaning my valve with brake parts cleaner and removed two small pieces of plastic that prevented the check valve from closing. After testing the vacuum with my MityVac to make sure the valve holds vacuum I reinstalled it and the Shop-Vac sound went away, the engine light has stayed off and no fault codes show on my OBD. I ordered two Dorman check valves to replace at a later date, but its an easy job when you don't have to remove the intake assembly. The Hewitt kit is a great idea, but the gen 2 ($450) is the one to buy if you live in Cal, because it will not be detected on the visual when smog inspection comes up.

    I've this problem with my 08 5.7L tundra. I replaced the sai valves the first time and it was good for about a year. Now the SAI pump is failing. It only causes an issue in cold starts, usually I will wait for the CEL to come on , then shut off the truck and clear the code then restart and it's fine. But a pain in the ass and I've considered just getting a bypass kit, rather than fixing it again.

    I just bought my 06 Tundra with 86k miles and got the p1442&p1445 codes. I tore off what I believe was this bypass lol thinking it was some aftermarket ECU bs plug in tune. Will using this bypass mess up the engine? Or does this bypass just completely disable the fan system? It’s only used on cold start ups right?

    Hello, I just watched your video, and my by pass kit was installed just as you did yours. The problem I am having is my 05 Tundra is going into a limp mode. I called Hewitt and the tech explained to me that they are having trouble with some of the 4.7 liter engines going into a p2445 code. They are saying this is a below freezing temp. mode I have to start my truck let it warm up, once the temp gage moves showing the engine is warm I have to cut the truck back off wait 5 seconds then start the truck back up then drive away. If I do not do these steps my truck will not go above 45 MPH Hewitt state they have been working with several Toyota dealers to find a solution to this limp mode code so they can install it into the by pass kit but have been unsuccessful. The tech said its not happening on all 4.7 engines but of course it has to happen to me. Being a fire fighter it sucks to have to wait for the truck to warm up before I can take off to answer calls. So my question is does anyone else have this problem with there by pass kit or have you ever heard of the cold weather P2445 limp mode code?? I thought thats what this kid was suppose to do but Hewitt says they are aware of the problem but unfortunately they have no solution at this time.. Any help would greatly be appreciate!!!

It seemed to go away after you installed the bypass kit. I’m just wondering if the sais would have anything to do with that or if it’s internal? I have a video on my channel that you can hear the noise very clearly. I haven’t been driving the truck much lately so I’ve put off on fixing it. But the weird thing is, is that it isn’t throwing a check engine light, it does have a maintenance required light on though. But if you have any idea on what it could be I’d greatly appreciate that, something like this I can fix myself without having to take it to a mechanic IF it has anything to do with the sais. Thanks!

    Anyone have advice for rusted bolts for where the block off plates go?

    • @ForestToFarm

      You must live up north. That salt is rough on things. My 99 F150 is pretty much rust free down here in the south. Only thing I ever used is WD40. Maybe try to get something up against it and bang on it with a hammer? Wish I knew more. Good luck!

    Would I be correct, if you have the p1442 & p1445 and that means valves are stuck closed. You would not need to install the block plates? The p1441 & p1444 being stuck open, you would need to install blocking plates?

    • @ForestToFarm

      Great question. In theory that sounds like a great idea. However I am not an expert on what would happen if the valves suddenly started working. my truck is a 2013 tundra. maybe your 06 model doesn't put it in limp mode or what do I know. my truck is making that same noise on cold startup. I just want to know if this is something I can try before having to shell out 2 grand. I looked at my truck and those blocking plates look like they are more easily accessible. Im also reading that some tundras are getting extended warranties on the air pump because of high failures but mine isn't one of the :(. bummer I just paid off my truck last year.

    What options do I have if the nut/bolt snapped off while trying to install the block off plate. I hit it with penetrating oil, but live in New England with so much salt and corrosion, they just sheared right off. Local muffler shop said it can't be drilled and tapped without taking the engine out. Any other creative solutions? Can it be blocked where it connects into the exhaust manifolds? Or under the intake manifold where it comes out of the pump? I realize if I got that far, I should have just replaced the pump altogether but do not see a way to drill and tap as is.

    • @ForestToFarm
      @ForestToFarm  4 года назад

      Man that stinks. Salt is not a cars friend. I have no valid advice here. Never had that problem. If you can find a way to block it off seems it should work. Tearing that manifold down seems like a lot of effort but may be the way to go. I would ask Hewitt and see if they have had this problem. Sorry I am not more help.

    • @andrewpierce2085
      @andrewpierce2085 4 года назад

      C no I haven’t. If you follow those pipes up and to the back of the intake manifold, you can put the block off plates there. Same connection and likely less corroded than the connection near the manifold. However, there isn’t much room to work back there (it’s at the back of the intake manifold). My switching valves are stuck closed (that is the only code I had) so just going for it and hoping that them being closed is good enough to keep any exhaust from backing and damaging the sensors. So far so good after 1k miles.

      Well im late here but ive got an 05’ tundra dc and had this code, i bought this kit, had a bolt break on the pipe for the knock off plates on passenger side, so i didnt take out any more bolts and i left them pipes alone, installed the wiring kit, and have never had another issue and never used the knock off plates lol. Its been 2 years now, i live in northeastern Pennsylvania and never had another issue.. so screw them plates!!
