- My truck (2013 Toyota Tundra, 2wd, 4.6, RWD) was having some cold start idle issues and finally died on me the other day. Check engine light, TRAC OFF light and a dead accelerator pedal. It might surprise you how easy the fix was! This should apply for both 4.6 and 5.7L tundras as well as other Toyota and Lexus models with the 4.6L V8. Let me know if you'd like to see more tundra videos!
OMG! I had a similar issue with my old 2010 Tundra 5.7 SR5 yesterday. Yup, went into limp mode for no reason. We thought Big Red was a goner, but thanks to you we cleaned the throttle body with carb cleaner. It was gunked up with carbon buildup like yours. It's the same throttle body, so it went exactly like what you showed in the video. After cleaning it and putting it all back together it started right up, but blew smoke from the engine compartment so we shut it down. Tried a second time and it started right up and no smoke. Let it run for about 15 minutes to let the computer adjust and everything is running great, maybe better than in years. Thanks so much for the video man! 👊
I CAN NOT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO!!!
I just got to my job in a neighborhood where I cut grass and my truck stalled it's had a rough start in the mornings for a while now and with all of that being said it went into limp mode and I was stranded. A customer of mine came with a code scanner we found the code and I Google it in your video popped up and I had the Is the 10mm socket And clean the throttle body with a rag and a little bit of gas I had in my gas scan for my lawn mower equipment and I am back on the road you are a lifesaver
Im glad I was able to help you out of a tight spot! Feel free to subscribe; I want to start making videos again.
Thank you for the video. I have a similar truck with the same engine. After start the idle would drop below 500 RPM and the engine would die half the time. Cleaning the throttle body not only fixed the idle issue it also fixed an issue with smooth acceleration from a stop. The throttle was touchy and the truck would 'jump' from a stop.
Glad I was able to help. My truck had only that same symptom at first where it would jump from a stop also but I never knew what the issue. Hopefully this video can keep helping people
I'm not a pro mechanic but id say pressure wash ur eng bay a little before opening up the intake system post filter. Your letting little bits of crap go right into the cylinders. Thanks for the vid tho. Helpful
Taking a pressure washer to your engine bay can cause problems if you aren't careful. Glad you liked the video.
@@kbgarage4762 oh ya I meant like lightly from over like 8 ft or so.
How you tow with your truck I have a 14 same engine without tow package
I do tow quite a bit even with the lift and 35's. Most people think anything without the 5.7 can't do anything but it has plenty of power to do anything. You just have to be smart about how you tow. I think ill end up re gearing eventually but I do have a Hypertech speedometer calibrator and a pedal commander and I'm pretty happy with it right now.
You tow with the S mode ?
@@jonrowel Not often. Only times I have ever used it is while towing on steep inclines to keep the trans in a lower gear. If you have larger tires id recommend the hyper tech. Really helps keep the trans in a more appropriate gear.
If you enjoyed the video feel free to subscribe to the channel and turn on your notifications. I will have more Tundra content soon.
I tow on S3 or S4 depends on how steep and cruise on flat with S5
@@jonrowel Thanks for the subscription! S mode works great with the 4.6 a lot like tow/haul mode just you control it yourself
