My 2007 tundra 5.7, has over 334k miles. Original engine and transmission. No major issues other than the known air flow repaired under warrantee. Oil change every 5k miles. Runs great. Could blow up tomorrow or go forever. It doesn't owe me anything. Great vehicles. I'd love to upgrade to a 2020, but it's hard to justify when my old one is running so good.

@@charlesjackson1700 u r correct. We have to grow up. We let our patriotism overload our ass. For example, I have a 2002 gmc savana 5.7 vortec van. Not enough intake bolt clamping force to hold plastic Intake down. Spider injection issues. Distributor issues. Wiring issues. Interior plastic issues. Exterior plastic issues. Paint falls off. Wiring harness to tail light issues. Seizing caliper (and I’m in Georgia). Door panels cracked all the way across on their own in driveway in hot sun and noticed it when I opened the door. BOTH cracked alone…sitting alone. No slams of the doors. Door handles pull off. Wipers knocking. Gauge cluster malfunction. Climate control malfunction. Door hardware all the way around malfunction. Paint fell off grill. Front suspension and steering won’t last. Clunky trans. Exhaust leaks. Power steering power brake hydro boost issues. Leaks. Have to remove steering wheel, and air bag, to put multifunction blinker etc switch over and over since been. Switch causes shorts and wiring gets black and wires become brittle and burned. Wiring too small of gauge and constantly smoked. Here is the BIGGEST thing that woke me up. The domestic version has NO headlight fuses or relays. Zero. The inner fender fuse box has the slots and labeling for fuses and relays. The wiring harness to headlights (too small gauge) run RIGHT PAST the fckn fuse box and are NOT hooked up. Nope. And if you want to hook them up and Insert fuses? Nope. The fuse won’t slide in hole cause there are no metal clip/ fuses things to HOOK to. And if you wanted to, you can’t flip the fuse box over to find a way to hook the wires up with rare metal pins (where to buy?) because the wiring harness will crack and you’ll lose all the van wiring and have forever issues. You’d have to cut the wiring harness for headlights and by the universal relays with Mount tab and some kind of waterproof fuses box. So you want to Mount this setup on the firewall or inner fender? No room on inner fender. If you drill in to firewall you’ll have a rainwater leak on the tray that diverts water from windshield trough. Rust. Have to let th fuses flop around as well as relays. And MORE. The headlight switch will overheat and melt the mounting tabs in the dash panel! Glue in tabs. Can’t make new headlight switch stay in dash. No metal or strong plastic in sight to Mount new headlight switch. If u go look in the junk yard? Same. So you have a headlight switch flopping around down in a 2x2 hole your hand won’t reach through. And u have to use the stock switch cause it combines your interior dash light dim and overhead lights stuff. And then!!!! The fckn daytime running lamps. There another fckn issue integrated in this bullish!t. It fails. That’s a longer story. But, these wiring harnesses running from headlight switch and from DRL run behind the dash plastic and in behind the aluminum structure. Can’t reach them for repair and not enough “slack” to splice. Ok. So. I have a factory service manual. The wiring diagrams say, DOMESTIC and EXPORT. The fckn export version uses fuses and relays!!! Foreign countries won’t buy the sh!ty Gm product unless it uses proper fuses and relays. Can u believe that SH!T??? No politics involved here. GM does not care about their own country and their own American customers. These wiring failure force you to be miserable and force you to waste endless money at dealer until you give up and buy a new VAN!!! GM wants their own country and customers in this country to fail. They want the foreign customers to brag on their product. Isn’t that some BS????? I can go on and on and on. What a fckn piece of sh!t. Ever notice that Toyota makes full size vans called Hiace vans? Not available in USA. Ever notice Ford makes an inline 6 bulletproof gasoline engine in Australia? Not available here. Europe has matrix headlights. Not available in USA. (I heard the new infrastructure bill will finally include permission from DOT for matrix headlights). I can go on and on. Japan is the way to go. If only we had a choice in heavy duty trucks and full size vans. I don’t think Ford is Perfect and yes…they over complicate things. But, their work truck and police car platform surpasses dodge and gmc. Yes…the 6.4 diesel was junk…the 5.4 had cam phaser issues…the eco boost has soot issues. But as a whole, it’s better to risk it on a Ford than a gm or dodge in the service industry. Just tighter design. But if Toyota came in with a competitor product in USA I’d never look back and ditch the Ford junk. And don’t get me started on jeep. Holy fck. Because no one makes an off road platform product to compete with keep (in USA)…they enjoy their cult following. Lots of aftermarket modification support. But a jeep is a platform. Buy it, remove drive train, install Ford or gm v8, aftermarket suspension and axles. Bring back the old jeep style land cruisers. I mean…foreign countries can even allow the sales of a Suzuki JIMNy for a cheap off roader. Not USA. No Hilux, no diesel 4x4 vans with manual trans. No choices. We r stupid and the other countries laugh at us! Even in Germany….you can buy a standard diesel Mercedes car in black or silver used by taxis and police. Hardly any issues. In USA??? Mercedes offers a gazillion “bling bling” models that are junk. Mercedes is the worst brand in USA. Rap music and kardashian culture? Did Lexus force Mercedes to cheapen their cars?? And I own a 1980 w123 240d mercedes. Simple and built like a tank. The last of the good Mercedes in usa. Not so in Germany. Germans demand better. USA? USA demands wrestling channels on their tv and duck dynasty. Kid rock and joe dirt hung over in the USA car factory leaving half the bolts loose. In tractor trailer trucks? The Volvo sold in USA is junk with wiring issues. The Volvo sold in Europe is premium. Horsepower standard starts around 750. In USA? 300. Forced to buy long hooded cowboy style Peterbilt with an old Cat diesel that blows head gaskets. Things to consider when you read my message. I do earthmoving, trucking, farming. And my own mechanic work. I have a shop. 40 vehicles. Motorcycles. Music gear. So i don’t pay dealer repair fees unless necessary. Do lots of work myself. I have college degrees. I have traveled. We do it to ourselves in USA. We will not prioritize education and healthcare. We blame China? Well we sell a sh!t ton of agriculture to China. We can’t figure out if it’s worth it to lose the sales of food to ban the buying of their cheap products. Confusion. I know this….while Americans are busy wanting to be reality tv stars and experts on conspiracy theories…China is educating their kids. Just look at their SAT scores in USA? Are we doing to ourselves or are they to blame? We have opportunity and we won’t take it. We are a wealthy nation. We can do better. It starts with us. How we raise our kids. Our standards. USA build the best military hardware, fighter jets, weapons. Everything else? Junk.

Just returned from an 8 day 900 mile trip to the mountains where there was lots of snow and ice. Besides getting 16.1 MPG (which I think rocks) my Tundra handled beautifully. Last year I changed the drive belt and added new plugs. I have added bigger off road tires and custom wheels, and I did have a LineX spray in bed liner added, to cut down on bed rust. I only use Amsoil oil and filters. I have EVERY SINGLE document from oil changes to services that were covered under warranty, from day 1 in a binder. Yeah, I’m that guy. I love my 5.7L V8! I'm afraid that Toyota may have made a mistake not offering the 5.7 as an option and completely discontinuing it. Although part of America's market says otherwise, truck's DNA was designed as a work/utility vehicle. They were initially designed with large torqued engines, with the mindset to haul and last. Not offering an engine of this nature, on their successful large truck model to simply to keep their manufacturing streamlined, might be a mistake. I think this is where Ford was wise to keep their coyote 5.0L V8, as an option.

    • @repairvehicle

1st not many people know about Toyota reliability.
2nd competitors put big emphasis on problematic Bells and whistles during commercials that convince people to buy none reliable vehicles.
      3rd brand loyalty.
4th some people have money and don't care about reliability because they don't keep their vehicles past 30k miles.

Definitely not with 10k miles oil change intervals and 0w-20. However, using 5w-30 and changing it every 3k miles yes you can get 500k miles.
