Fun Fact: Don Bluth animated most of this sequence himself so that the rest of his team could keep focusing their efforts on The Secret of NIMH back in the day. The money made from taking this short project kept their tiny studio afloat for several more weeks!
My Grandpa used to listen to this soundtrack all the time when he was downstairs doing some work in their basement when I was a kid. For some reason, this was the song I remember hearing the most. Grandpa's gone now, but listening to this song helps me keep his memory alive.
I love Don Bluth animation, it hits me right in the nostalgia and I’m crying cause this is so beautiful watching this for the first time and ELC is one of my fave bands😭
Don Bluth's maternal grandfather was Rey Pratt from the Pratt family, whose own father Helaman Pratt was an early leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as a grandfather of George W. Romney and great-grandfather of Mitt Romney
As a seven year old, I went to see this with my mother. I loved this soundtrack so much and I was dancing in the aisle as the songs played. My mother never chastised me and just let me be. 💓
Born in 1975, and own this film on bluray and still watch yearly with my son and daughter who are both young adults who love it and Electric Light Orchestra very much. I’ve passed it successfully on to them and they can show it to their children someday. 🙏
Yeah. They do look like Thumbellina and Cornelius. I never thought of that. Maybe it is just being a handsome brunette guy, but Sonny does look a lot like Dimitri too. Anastaisia is one of my favorite Don Blyth movies.
@@c.d.dailey8013 I love how Bluth's characters have adorable and similar style choices. She has the hairstyle of Anastasia and a little like Cadet Kimberley from Space Ace. The sheer glittery parts of Kira's outfit are also like Anya in the Once Upon a December and Princess Daphne from Dragon's Lair.
Temazo de los 80 bellísima canción y fantantici video creo que Dios no tiene algo como éste video fenomenal gracias Edición gracias para ése gran grupazo quedó para la historia mundial
I've loved this film since I was a kid and I still love this film to this day. This part has to be one of my favourite parts of the film The whole film really is magic, and Oliva was the perfect choice to be a muse
Probably the best scene, the Don Bluth animation is fantastic! Xanadu is lowkey an old Disney movie lol. I think the plot was actually great but maybe lacked in its execution, the struggling artist feeling blocked and uninspired and then finding inspiration (and love) from an actual Greek muse is a cool idea. I think it's the fact that he ended up being inspired to build a roller skating Disco where they lost some of the audience lol, but i still think it's a gorgeous movie and i will forever love it, mostly because of Olivia (RIP), Gene Kelly (RIP), and of course that masterpiece of a soundtrack 💖
I think they were in over their head, like this was requiring a huge blockbuster budget and time to create the "Magic", and I don't think they had those luxuries. I look at some scenes and imagine endless retakes and angles. This was the one scene that got to be pure Bluth Magic!
I wasn’t born until 1999. My dad introduced this movie to me when I was probably a lot younger than 10 years old. I listen to the xanadu album every other day and it fills me with so much happiness. Olivia Newton John was my idol as a little girl And still to this day her movies fill me with so much joy RIP Olivia ❤
Ugh! It's been 20 years since I saw it all the way through and I don't remember this...Now I have to watch it again. Oh wait! I loved this movie. Thanks!
"Released in the United States on August 8, 1980, by Universal Pictures, the film 'Xanadu' was deserving to be a box-office success, and critics definitely should consider 'Xanadu' to be an inspiration for the creation of a new award that recognizes inspirational films of the year," states Inventor Milner Benedict III, BA.
my favorite part of the movie. when don bluth does the animation, (exept for a troll in centreal park) you're gonna get something good. this is the best animated sequence in a live action movie.
at least the weakest films like Rock n doodle and Troll deliver solidly great animation, though the latter is apparently superior for its cute stupidity, makes sense?
This is absolutely beautiful! It stinks and it’s honestly so sad how animation now couldn’t stay this way… Honestly though… what happened to REAL animation like this? The modern 2D digital cartoons now will NEVER beat this stuff! This stuff is beautiful, and It was so much better back then! Don Bluth is a legend! UPDATE: R.I.P. Olivia… 😔
Olivia Newton-John should have been in more films. I heard that because Xanadu underperformed she was given less roles. She had an amazing smile and voice.
Scary how this scene, lead to him knowing that she was a muse and felt broken and pushed her away. Knowing he has to do everything to take her back, or bring her back into his arms. Actually haunting to know this song blended well with what could occur, in this movie. That word, is heartbreak.
When you were an 11 year old girl in the 80s, watching this scene and thought it was the most romantic song ever *dreamy sigh*
I was 11ish in the late 90s first time seeing this movie and still thinking it was the most romantic song 🤭😁

Worth it! SoN is one of the greatest animated adventures in the world.
I KNEW it!! I was telling my daughter that she has the same look and feel (and even the same movements) as Thumbalina!
I just read that in his autobiography and came here to see the sequence.
The land before time an American tail and all dogs go to heaven is amazing animated Don Bluth
DON BLUTH OH MY GOD
I can’t believe she’s gone 😔 RIP beautiful woman
She is now resting in Xanadu 💫🤍🤍🤍

Don Bluth's animation is truly magical, I wish it was still around today.
Bluth!
Oh Don Bluth animated it? That explains the dreaminess of the scene
Don Bluth's maternal grandfather was Rey Pratt from the Pratt family, whose own father Helaman Pratt was an early leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as a grandfather of George W. Romney and great-grandfather of Mitt Romney
It's a crime the way the production wouldn't credit Don Bluth Animation for this sequence.

A lot of memories in my mind and many feelings in my heart! This time was the best for me!

You can see how this short segment served as a blueprint, or draft or whatever, for "Thumbelina." The animation is gorgeous in both.

The broadway musical did a great job fleshing out the characters more. This movie was like Phil Collins dropping fire for Tarzan.
