Even this year's Grammy nomination list is still a joke, lol. The fact that we don't get to see far greater diversity in the Rock/Alternative field other than some "Dad rock" and other popular contenders while Paramore is like, the **only** nominee that stands out the most in the category it's competing in is enough to tell you the level of qualification of those "professionals" at Grammy to select, review and nominate the picked entries in the first place. Furthermore with the current state of relation between Grammy and the Western music industry, as well as the methods and criteria Grammy used to pick the submitted entries for eligibility in the assigned nomination categories, there will always be little to zero chance for every overseas artist or band out there to compete in the commonly contested fields i.e. General, Pop/Dance, Rock/Metal/Alternative, R&B/Rap, Country/Americana and Jazz among others. I'll call it as it is, Grammy is still a very Western-centric institution that only conforms mainly to the corporate interest in the Western hemisphere.
@@GuyWhoLikesTheSnarkies1435 The Grammy's have always been a joke. Some of the best records of all time have never even had a chance in any category. I mean just the fact that Radiohead has never won album of the year shows how little the grammys mean.
@@zTeaTheCoffee And don't get me started with how virtually **every** Japanese artist and band out there have been consistently ignored by Grammy from years after years. Also, Japanese rock/alternative scene arguably fared better than its Western counterpart due to the heterogeneity and inclusivity of the music itself in general.
Lana hasn't been given any grammys in 2019 for NFR, this would be the perfect moment for her to get recognition. First because of having been more than a decade consistently in the industry and second because this is her best project yet. It would be disappointing if she loses, specially against any of the Taylor pics who might get many of these grammys.

I hope Victoria Monét wins at least one award. Jaguar II was one of my favorite albums this year. Also Victoria deserves recognition of some sort. She's made so many iconic songs for many of the modern pop girlies we know today.
Fantano has no love for my girl Victoria 😭 she is so deserving of at least one win, I've been following her for years and finally saw her live and she's absolutely phenomenal.
I wish the Alvvay's album was nominated too because I feel that would've been a strong contender for alternative album of the year. Surprised not to see Boy is a Liar pt. 2 nominated for record of the year or pop duo performance, I think that would've been a perfect choice and IMO the most iconic track of this year.
I honestly cannot wait for the end of TS’s dominance over everything. Goes for Beyoncé too tbh. Much much muchhhh more fun and interesting stuff is out there. And you know they’re gonna win so this is another blah year for music in general
It’s so weird because I could honestly see Alvvays / Blue Rev being a Grammy favorite- like one of those acclaimed albums that unexpectedly receives a ton of nominations, but I guess not.
I know it’s not going to happen but i wish sampha won a Grammy for his album let alone nominated 😔. It’s one of the best pop albums I’ve heard in years
i can’t believe you don’t think noah kahan deserves the grammy for best new artist 😭… stick season is one of the best albums of the year with amazing songwriting and was hoping for you to review it
tch, the Grammys may as well not do metal at all. no Tomb Mold? no Horrendous? no Stortregn? no Fires in the Distance? no Massen? no Carnosus? no Gorod? hell, even King Gizzard got snubbed there, but DISTURBED made it in with one of the worst songs of last year? terrible, worthless, and entirely out of touch with what's great in metal. no diehard metalheads care about the Grammys outside of fans of Metallica, Spiritbox, Ghost, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Ozzy/Black Sabbath, etc. wanting to see their fav boosted. good metal critique is at metal-focused outlets like AngryMetalGuy.
"Transcendental" my ass. This album is massively overrated and overhyped. There are many albums that "transcend" black metal and are actually good. This one, definitely isn't good.
I don’t think Midnight will be Album of the Year. She already has 3 album of the years. I’m not sure they will give her another one so soon after folklore
Taylor will win bcoz this album has huge sales, n 1 single, n 1 charts and it's very popular. Also the huge power of Taylor in the industry. Grammys like a lot this type of popular albums with huge sales. Sadly is the reality. But is very undeserved.
Same I'm a Lana day1 and I truly loved the boygenius álbum. But SOS man that shit still has a hold on me and cannot let it go 😂 it's been my personality
it's a great album but Midnights fits Grammy's criteria the most (critically acclaimed, best selling album of the year, few people credited and has many hits) SOS and Midnights are the two albums that fit that criteria the most with the second one having a considerable advantage
Absolutely pumped for Alvvays' Grammy nom. Wish the album was nominated too. Rooting for them for their one category!! Surprised Doechii didn't make it on here for anything. What It Is is kind of the only track that *really* took off, which is kind of a shame because the rest of her body of work is so much better IMO. Lana deserved at least one of the two for NFR - I'll be happy if she comes home with something for her newest album, but think NFR is far more deserving.
Victoria won't unfortunately maybe she might get R&B album. But everything else no they are gonna give it to SZA cause they won't give SZA any of the general field awards.
I want to understand the Jon Batiste Grammy noms but I don't, I thought the production on We Are was kind of bombastically bland, and I basically never hear anyone talking about this guy. I never hear him talked about outside of Grammy season, which doesn't make him bad by any stretch, just curious where the support is coming from.
this. i mean, i appreciate and respect him as a musician, i’d say. there must some valid yet positive reason for him keeping being nominated, i guess. but, if it’s not because of that last couple of years’ aoty or his recent collaboration with lana, i’d probably not have learned anything about him at all. but, it indeed seems like he’s “pretty well-known” among his peers in the recording academy. ‘cause, compared to any nominee in the big four categories, he seems a bit the standout. or maybe along with taylor or billie… 🤔
I was genuinely so let down to hear him gloss over that and then pick ghost. Weird options he’s went with for basically every category. Don’t remember fantano being so mainstream and corporate.
Ya if we want a metal resurgence, I think bands similar to Spiritbox or Bad Omens is it. But knowing Grammys it will prob be rigged and go to Metallica especially if they don't win Rock. I wish Metallica would stop making music they just get worse and worse. Disturbed is getting to that point as well. Slipknot still has the occasional banger but hasn't had one in a few years.
Scarlet was released after the Grammy cutoff, hence her not being nominated for other rap songs. Only her singles were before the cutoff (Attention, PTTR, Demons)
I Think Taylor will win only one. She already had so much success this year and Midnights was mid, I think the music industry wants to promote other artists, it wouldn't seem fair to me for Taylor to sweep just because of her popularity, but we'll see. I'm hoping Olivia wins some.
@@midnight-2021 she will win both, I was saying for weeks that the NFL wants T swizzle at the super bowl for the increased viewers and ad money, not surprised.
The fact Lana released her magnum opus with A&W, detailing her pain and experiences and internal monologue so beautifully in a 7 minute song, and it’s gonna end up losing song of the year to “It’s me, hi, I’m the problem it’s me” is far more upsetting than I’d like to admit.
Since you didn't get into the Best Traditional Blues Album category I will say here that I predict my friend Tracy Nelson will win for her first album in 10 years - "Life Don't Miss Nobody", with appearances by some of the best blues musicians around, and one tune that she duets with Willie Nelson (no relation). The woman is an icon.
I feel like if the Grammy's aren't ever going to include more underground music it would be nice to see a smaller scale awards show be created for the underground scene. I know a lot of those artists don't care about awards like that but I think they deserve their flowers
@@saulomarruizgarcia2408 nor do a lot of the artists who are nominated. It’s usually the labels that submit the material for consideration if I’m not mistaken. Even so, the playing field of the Grammy’s is always leveled in favor of more popular acts.

Sad to see Sampha wasnt on any of these. Probably due to coming out so late this year but still, would've loved to see at least some nominations for him.
"and here are the classical fields that I know nothing about" 😢 Just out of curiousity, does anyone have a fave music reviewer/critic that covers contemporary classical?
Dave Hurwitz is one of the only classical music reviewers who posts with a similar regularity to fantano. He's a bit older and his style of reviewing is a bit of an acquired taste, but he does cover an enormous amount of both old and new recordings. I definitely enjoy his reviews. I sometimes wonder about whether I should start a classical music review channel for contemporary records myself, because I think it's a pretty big unfilled hole in the youtube market.
@@feneb6497 thank you for the recommendation! I'll definitely check him out. And I think starting your own review channel would be great, there's absolutely a gap in modern coverage. I'd love to hear more people talk about it.
Boygenius just got a nbc Snl slot so I assume the old heads over at the Grammy committee will be sure to vote for them as the first name they remotely recognize.
He really said at 16:44 about I Remember Everything, "I don't know if there's been a country song in 2023 that's gotten as much play" when Last Night exists.
I need to see Nas win another grammy he deserves, especially with the sheer amount of quality his career has produced, and sadly been overlooked by so many
honestly Anthony gets way too much hate. despite being a bit of a music nerd guy stereotype visually, he lacks one key feature of the archetype: disrespect for women. the way he talks about female popstars specifically, with sincere respect for the artistic and intellectual merit of their work which is unfortunately rare among his "type", indicates he's a very open minded person.
I’m Ngl I would love to see Skrillex win again. The amount he’s done for EDM culture this year has been incredible. More so than any other nominee. Quest For Fire is also one of the best EDM albums in eons.
I concur. I listened to James Blake's album after a hearing Fantano saying it was the best nomination, and I disagree with him. It felt like going to a song producer's recording session with a few layers of "dance" things on top of it. Skrillex's album gives you the feeling that you're in the crowd at a DJ's set, and even if IMO one or two of the tracks are weak, the album does its best for the setting of "dance". Same thing happened last year with Beyoncé's album. He said it was good as an electronic album yet I preferred Rufus Du Sol's, Odezsa's, and Bonobo's albums over Renaissance. I just think Fantano doesn't really "get" EDM, but I will still respect his criticisms of my favorite style of music.
The best electronic/dance album is probably the tightest category out there. We have Kx5, the duo who has had the Greatest impact of all electronic artists (even more so than Skrillex and Fred Again) this year and Fred Again, Skrillex who single handedly rescued Coachella in the same category. It's going to be close.

Fantano has no love for my girl Victoria 😭 she is so deserving of at least one win, I've been following her for years and finally saw her live and she's absolutely phenomenal.
I really hope this is Lana’s year.
Really hope to see Paramore get an award. Their album was great all around and definitely deserves it!
Agreed, so many strong tracks all around
🤞
It was mid
I wasn't really a Paramore lover back then but this album really had a hold on me for like a month LOL so I hope they could win something too.
The fact that the Karma remix is there and not Boy is a Liar is SO crazy
Blue Rev is my favorite album of the past few years easily
I honestly cannot wait for the end of TS’s dominance over everything. Goes for Beyoncé too tbh. Much much muchhhh more fun and interesting stuff is out there. And you know they’re gonna win so this is another blah year for music in general
@@bewwybabe8045I love TS and I agree. Oversaturated for sure.
It’s so weird because I could honestly see Alvvays / Blue Rev being a Grammy favorite- like one of those acclaimed albums that unexpectedly receives a ton of nominations, but I guess not.
victoria monet getting the recognition she deserves makes me so happy
Victoria Monet deserves the world. I really hope she wins at least one award.
Wish fantano liked her more

He released his album too late in the year. Probably next year he’ll get his nominations.

tch, the Grammys may as well not do metal at all. no Tomb Mold? no Horrendous? no Stortregn? no Fires in the Distance? no Massen? no Carnosus? no Gorod? hell, even King Gizzard got snubbed there, but DISTURBED made it in with one of the worst songs of last year?
terrible, worthless, and entirely out of touch with what's great in metal. no diehard metalheads care about the Grammys outside of fans of Metallica, Spiritbox, Ghost, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Ozzy/Black Sabbath, etc. wanting to see their fav boosted.
good metal critique is at metal-focused outlets like AngryMetalGuy.
"Transcendental" my ass. This album is massively overrated and overhyped. There are many albums that "transcend" black metal and are actually good. This one, definitely isn't good.
@@MelMelodyWernerno Lion's Daughter Ahab Dying Fetus Enslaved Hellripper even my album of the year Terrasite by Cattle Decap isn't nominated
Tbh, the rap category isn't bad, the only one that i was confused about was the rap song of the year. Like, wtf is the barbie world song doing there.💀
justice for skitzo the real song of the year
Gunnas album should have been on there
after the outrage that was this category last year, this one is not so bad
I don’t think Midnight will be Album of the Year. She already has 3 album of the years. I’m not sure they will give her another one so soon after folklore
Taylor will win bcoz this album has huge sales, n 1 single, n 1 charts and it's very popular. Also the huge power of Taylor in the industry. Grammys like a lot this type of popular albums with huge sales. Sadly is the reality. But is very undeserved.
Evermore and Red should have won.@@Itzzy515
She is going to win a Super Bowl MVP as well, 😂😂😂😂😂
I once heard Noah Kahan described as countryside but not country and I agree with that
I'm really hoping Paramore can pick up another Grammy win this year! I think that metal category goes to Jaded by Spiritbox personally.
Literally yes jaded is such a good song 💜💙
Spritbox is soooo good! There are so many international metal bands that deserved to be on that list. If not that, they deserve to win
Having Aphex Twin & Skrillex in the same award category is like asking a grandparent if they prefer their kid or grandkid
Aphex Twin and it’s not even close
GUTS is so damn good. Hope she brings home at least one award for something.
where is caroline, she should be up and down these categories, i feel like a stan because it’s all i could think about listening to the picks
I'm with you!!! Happy for Victoria Monet too! They my favs!
I'm really hoping for Sza to win Album of the year. She's so deserving and the project was so good.
Same I'm a Lana day1 and I truly loved the boygenius álbum.
But SOS man that shit still has a hold on me and cannot let it go 😂 it's been my personality
it's a great album but Midnights fits Grammy's criteria the most (critically acclaimed, best selling album of the year, few people credited and has many hits)
SOS and Midnights are the two albums that fit that criteria the most with the second one having a considerable advantage
MILEY CYRUS DESERVES ALL HER FLOWERS IDC!

I've never heard Noah Kahan, but I hope he wins because I bagged groceries for one of his relatives the day he was nominated
Really hoping Paramore takes at least one of the two they got nominated for!!
Hoping for a SZA or Victoria win in at least one or more of the categories
Victoria won't unfortunately maybe she might get R&B album. But everything else no they are gonna give it to SZA cause they won't give SZA any of the general field awards.
PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation is better
@@thesceptikal2102 lol what does that have to with wanting those two women to win in their categories.
Seeing Louis Cole in a nomination was honestly pretty cool to see.
That song with Jid is horrendous
I loved We Are, I thought it showed a lot of well executed versatility, but his new album is so ass. Everything sounds washed out and overdone.

this. i mean, i appreciate and respect him as a musician, i’d say. there must some valid yet positive reason for him keeping being nominated, i guess. but, if it’s not because of that last couple of years’ aoty or his recent collaboration with lana, i’d probably not have learned anything about him at all. but, it indeed seems like he’s “pretty well-known” among his peers in the recording academy. ‘cause, compared to any nominee in the big four categories, he seems a bit the standout. or maybe along with taylor or billie… 🤔
jon batiste's music sounds like it belongs in children's movies
Melon's arctic monkeys takes are by far his most ludicrous 😅
2:09 "very mid record, Mid-Nights"
Hoping for a spiritbox win. Would be huge for metal
I was genuinely so let down to hear him gloss over that and then pick ghost. Weird options he’s went with for basically every category. Don’t remember fantano being so mainstream and corporate.
Nah Metallica is winning it's predictable than anything from WWE
The only band in that category you can call young
Ya if we want a metal resurgence, I think bands similar to Spiritbox or Bad Omens is it.
But knowing Grammys it will prob be rigged and go to Metallica especially if they don't win Rock.
I wish Metallica would stop making music they just get worse and worse. Disturbed is getting to that point as well. Slipknot still has the occasional banger but hasn't had one in a few years.
Scarlet was released after the Grammy cutoff, hence her not being nominated for other rap songs. Only her singles were before the cutoff (Attention, PTTR, Demons)
Hoping against hope for a Coco Jones win. She’s such a likable person and it’s a shame Disney abandoned her. She was born to be a star.
Surprised with the Coco Jones nomination’s, I feel like she’s been super underrated. Her releases and features this year alone has been immaculate
I Think Taylor will win only one. She already had so much success this year and Midnights was mid, I think the music industry wants to promote other artists, it wouldn't seem fair to me for Taylor to sweep just because of her popularity, but we'll see. I'm hoping Olivia wins some.
Midnights mid? Midnights is fan favorite and guts is just a bad version of sour

The woman is an icon.
I feel like if the Grammy's aren't ever going to include more underground music it would be nice to see a smaller scale awards show be created for the underground scene. I know a lot of those artists don't care about awards like that but I think they deserve their flowers

"and here are the classical fields that I know nothing about" 😢
Just out of curiousity, does anyone have a fave music reviewer/critic that covers contemporary classical?
Jessie snubbed again. My poor little heart, only Lana winning will help.

I need to see Nas win another grammy he deserves, especially with the sheer amount of quality his career has produced, and sadly been overlooked by so many
The disappointments with a picture of Macklemore is on point. How they won best rap album over Kendrick is still the biggest snub in the last decade.
honestly Anthony gets way too much hate. despite being a bit of a music nerd guy stereotype visually, he lacks one key feature of the archetype: disrespect for women. the way he talks about female popstars specifically, with sincere respect for the artistic and intellectual merit of their work which is unfortunately rare among his "type", indicates he's a very open minded person.
Tell that to Taylor!
lol at John Batiste being "a musicians musician".. he's literally the most mainstream pop commercial excuse for an attempt at jazz around today!
The way Fantano ignore his album of the year 2022 on the list was out of the place.
