You are absolutely right, Colette. We have become so used to just pressing buttons or taking things off shelves - expending minimal thought and effort to have every convenience, and not even things we really want, that we've lost sight of how happy we can be with a very few simple, meaningful things, and that is the way to live a truly enriching and balanced life.

The Arctic is 5.6° C above normal. The colder air has been split into the continents and now the jet streams are so wavy that it's bringing the cold your way. I love science, but not when it reveals bad things. I hope you stay warm and find comfort in the lodge. Looks wonderful! Blessings to you and the fur babies.

Thank goodness you got that new glass for the fire ... just in time!
We had the same problem with our front door letting the cold in and we adapted a clear plastic shower curtain that we hung in front of it, covering the door frame from side to side, and shower curtain plastic because it's a bit heavier than the average bear and lets in lots of light. We were astounded at the difference. If not a curtain, a blanket would do just as well ... which we've hung to separate the bedrooms from the main living area.
    Jack, the sun-bunny. :)

Blessings to you from Canada, Colette. It has been very cold here, too, with more snow this morning. However, cold is relative to what you are used to, all temperature is, and I fully appreciate just how cold you must be feeling. Cover that door with a warm blanket, do the same for the windows, too, keep the kettle and the soup pot on the boil, and soon the cold will pass. Much love to you and to the furries 💕

Currently it’s 10*c but just 2-3 days ago it was 26*c . I live in a 2 story home & had to turn the ac on it was too warm upstairs. It was lovely to see & get outside for a bit. But I accomplished nothing as I haven’t felt up to the getting ready of my pots & planters out on my patio. Now it’s raining, and is supposed to continue to do here on the west side of the Smokey Mountains. I’m desperate to see & feel the sun & warmth again as the rain makes me hurt so bad. I literally struggle thru getting my plants & veggies planted because it take so much energy. Not hard work but enough that coupled with the rain, I’m down for a couple of weeks after, trying to recover. Blessings to you! Hugs, Summer xo sending lots of warmth to you & your fur babies💗🌸

Hi Colette! I think you should consider renting that beautiful "tiny home!" BUT...either have the condition that they bring their own water (perhaps from the lovely spring near there??) or only rent in spring and autumn when there's enough water from your well. I think this could be a truly good experience for people to learn about "off grid" life and permaculture, etc. I think you could earn some great money from it, and save up for your new property! It's just a thought. :-) I'm not personally interested (in renting / visiting) because I don't travel...health and family issues...plus travel is expensive...but I can see the appeal! Air B&B or something like that might be an option for you. I think you can set your own price. (Note: I've never worked with them so I don't know much about it. Just sharing my thoughts with you.)

LOVE the lodge...almost as much as the cottage.:) Here in Cardiff, getting hold of 'scraps' for projects is NOT easy. Just like the curse of TV chefs resulting in foods which used to be the cheaper options for us folks leaner in the wallet, have made those foods into fashionable things to use and thereby the prices skyrocket too, all of the scraps and even pallet wood gets snapped up by folks who have cottoned onto a trend and then sell their projects for more than we can afford...Fair enough, if they are going to start businesses, it is great that they can do it using recycled stuff. Just means that the rest of us can't get hold of it for the NEEDED things.

Dear Colette, I have worried about you being so cold. We are due to get the 'Siberian Weather' here this week in England. I am used to living in draughty houses so this is my plan. Block up doors that are unused with at least a fraught excluder 'sausage' made from an old towel or blanket rolled up. Can I be brave an suggest that you block up the lodge front door with a mattress off one of the single beds I'd instant double glazed door! Next make a pot of your fantastic soup and get that on the go for the next few days nourishment. Also I make thermos flasks of hot drinks and keep them by the fireplace to keep warm all day. Wear vests!! Keep your dressing gown on over your clothes and sleep in fleece jacket and dressing gown at night. Keep mobile phone charged in case of power cut. Candles are already at hand in your lovely home. Have you got enough pet food for a fortnight in case of being snowed in and fill up petrol in

Sorry I ran out of room. Yes fill up the car with fuel. You might need it in emergency! Keep warm Colette it's vital else you will be poorly. I remember what bitter cold feels like even though I have not seen so much as frost in eight years. Personally, I'd think the outdoor video could wait a week or so until it warms up. The last thing you need is the flu when your long planned visit happens.
BTW I have one of those stripey rag carpets too although mine has been around a while and washed within an inch of its life over the years. They dry in a few hours in the insane heat here in Australia. The tassles have somehow shortened without coming undone so they hold up incredibly well. I plan to get a few more when I am next in Ireland. : )
