    Hi Collette.
I was burgled 8 weeks ago and my poor 77 year old mum who is only 6 weeks recovered from open heart surgery was burgled on Tuesday.
We were only out the house for 45 mins and they completely ransacked our home.
They got in the front door, in the middle of the day with just a screwdriver in seconds.
At mums they went round the back and smashed through the double glazed "security" door.
You are absolutely right to make it as difficult as you can for them to get in.
Please take extra precautions to keep yourself safe and secure.
Not writing this to scare monger or for pitty. We are fine now.
Just to encourage you to take as many precautions as you feel necessary.
Don't want to end this on a negative so sending you loads a love and gratitude for your wonderful channel.

A lovely walk about, thank you!! Your locked gate is a really good idea, and I think that your border of thorny plants is a good idea too - blackthorn, wild roses, brambles, etc., because that would make a good harbor for wildlife but difficult for intruders to get in or out of as well. My sister actually got a discount on her homeowner's insurance because she planted Japanese quince around the foundation of her house.

Sending protective blessings out to you and Jack. Keep the radio on when you're out. Also, be careful when you're posting videos. Don't announce when you'll be going out. Keep this information off your channel about your comings and goings. Be secretive about your daily business. Love and many blessings to you and Jack.

Hopefully, those men noticed Jack because if they try anything they will wish they had never met him. Border Collies are fiercely protective and can often outsmart some humans. He would have them rounded up in two seconds flat. LOL!

Wow! That car that sped by at about 21:55 was going super fast for such a country road! I was happy Jack was behind the gate, even though he's trained so nicely to stay clear of the cars! Everything looks so wonderful and your work is progressing nicely! Shoot! Even your BATHROOM is adorable! Thank you for sharing! You are such a busy-bee!! I love the way you keep the garden looking very natural and unplanned. I think it takes someone with an artistic eye to carry that off so successfully. Glad to know that Jack is near you at all times. He’ll be very protective of you and all of Bealtaine. Love to all of you in the garden.

Colette, I am watching in disbelief because last night as I lay in my bed, I thought of you and pictured you all cozy in the cottage. Then my mind wandered to Jack and I thought to myself, I wonder if Colette put Jack's bed by the door as a protection from burglars?!!! i think I began to sleep and my mind wandered more and i found myself thinking, no they are coming through the other door! I shook it off and said to my self, gracious don't think like that , picture her safe and cozy and well protected which is what I did. i found the whole thing odd and odder still after seeing you post this video!

Stay vigilant and safe Colette and keep Jack close. Sounds like the police could use a plate number and description of the dirty, white van. I've had my home robbed, at noon no less while my husband and I were at work, and that feeling of violation never completely goes away. On a lighter note, try a no trespassing signs that warns: No Trespassing...I'm tired of hiding the bodies. I saw that once and thought a bit of comic relief can come in handy at times. To you and Jack, be safe and, as always, very blessed.

I felt such a peaceful serene calmness when I was in Cork years ago. I'd love to purchase some acreage and go off grid, growing my own food and using solar panels as much as possible. I have no need for television, I watch the odd movie on You Tube or Netflix and that's enough for me. So many people are getting back to Nature and learning to live alongside Mother Earth and the creatures of the woodlands and forests. It's now Feb of 2021 and even though we just passed a year long battle of the new normal..it will bring about a significant change and one for the good as long as we stay grounded and have compassion and love for all things. Blessings Colette..

Quite right to lock your gate at this point with a spate of burglaries in the area. They say an open gate is an invite in. Such a shame there are people out there with no boundaries who spoil things for others. Glad you spotted the van.

Blessings to you Colette and Jack. It was a beautiful day here today also. Bright sunshine, 60 degrees. So, I did some chores outside, too beautiful to miss. Tomorrow I will plant my sugar maple sapling that I grew from a stick. Your planting of your birch trees has inspired me!
I did Neighborhood Crime Watch in two states over a 20 year period. Burglars hate light of any kind. Try a solar, motion activated flood light on your gate facing the lane. They shut themselves off automatically. A great deterrent at night. When you leave your cottage leave the radio playing to greet any unwanted visitors. And, Jack is the perfect alarm system! You are wise and not “easy pickin’s” with your gate padlocked and Jack in the cottage and three acres with you. These criminals want easy, this is proven, get in and get out. You are not to be trifled with! Blessings.

I have a flowerpot tealight heater under my desk to keep my toes from feeling the chill ... it always pays to take what actions we can when faced with the predations of others. If they really wanted to get in nothing would stop them, but as you said they go for the quick and easy pickings ... your new waterway will look just fab all dressed up with that stone. :)

The craftsman came today and barred three windows and two doors 🚪. I joked it would be save like „ Ford Nox „ now . Please be attentive and careful . In Jack you have a good watchdog and protector . Too bad that the negativ has found your paradise . We women are not intimidated . We wish you and Mr. Jack a cosy evening . I am so glad you have the gate you can close and lock. My grandmother used to live at the end of a long driveway through the woods, and she would always close it and lock it when she would leave the property. I am glad the burglars did not take anything from you.
Thank you for telling us about the right time to prune birch trees. I planted about ten birch trees last spring, and I had better go out there tomorrow to prune them back a little so I can get mine to branch out more. Tomorrow is going to be our last day of relatively warmer temperatures before we drop to below zero Fahrenheit this upcoming week.
Oh, one more thing, yes, your little stream will look wonderful with rocks lining the banks. I started piling rocks next to the stream in my backyard to keep the banks from eroding, and I love the way it looks.

You also might try some solar lights around your gate. You could also attach some string solar lights to your gate. By having some lights that are on through the night, it shows people your aware of them. Also, there's wireless gate/driveway alarms available. It's good to be proactive, since a lot of people don't have respect for others property.

Every time I see Jack's butt, I remember I wanted to tell you something: I used to brush my boy and keep the fur. I noticed you pull out those loose bits and let them go into the garden, which is great! I have a smaller garden and it would all fly into the neighbour's place, so I would, close to spring, put them into a small net bag on a long string, and hang a few near the bird feeders. I used to imagine what gorgeous wee nests they would make. One time back in California, I found a mouse nest made from pulling the lint from the dryer vent and weaving it into a shape and this wonderful little mouse had also taken up a peacock feather, of which we had many laying around, and he wove it into the very middle of the bed. It was an amazing piece of work! So, leaving some of Jack to fly higgledy-piggledy around the garden is a good idea for rodents as well. Animals. Gotta love 'em. Stay safe in Atiya this afternoon. I'm all battened down now and ready; though I just noticed one garden chair has gone for a wander out into a not-so-easily accessible part of the garden. Sigh.

Every time you speak of the blackthorn my ears and envy prick up. I'd love black thorn. They are not natural here, and the few that are about, were planted specifically in expensive gardens. I do not have ANY land space for the experimenting and planting in which I'd like to be engaged (which hurts since I once was fortunate enough to love 20 acres, but lost it to a husband, even though I wasn't the one who had the affair...heh heh theres a bit of TMI for your night)
