I LOVE thrift stores. With 20 dollars in hand, I'm a rich woman in a thrift store. And it keeps all that stuff out of landfills.

The floorlength 30's dress is stunning. I can't tell if its green or bronze, but it's gorgeous ! I bet the drape at the neck would be pretty in front or in back. We have a big warehouse here that is a charity shop and all of the clothes are sold by weight. Each pound of weight is a dollar. Ridiculously affordable, I go often.
Looks like you hit the jackpot. Good for you. Especially love the evening dress texture and beads on shoulders. And the green jacket is a Bealtaine meant to be jacket green and spiral elements.
Beautiful clothes Collette. My son is a fashion designer, high end , he worked at Vivienne Westwood for a while... he bought me the most beautiful black Westwood ‘bowling ball’ bag . Which I cherish 🙏 . Clothes are an art form in their own right . Enjoy wearing your finds I love shopping in charity shops. My son says just go shopping, don’t think menswear womenswear, old , new they are just clothes, buy what you like , alter or change it if you want to...😎

this made me specially happy...i newer ewer newer buy new clothes. i have really special taste and are so fed up with poor quality. if once want something really special to wear thrifting second hand is the only option. and then ther are all the other benefits you talkt about . so glad you share a little bit of this

I enjoyed seeing your clothes haul. I love seeing what kind of clothes that people have in their closets. My favorite is the skirt with the bird print. The clothes that are in the stores now, are so cheaply made and ugly to boot. I'm still wearing my clothes from ten years ago, or more.
Wow Colette. The clothes are fab. I have a similar style to yours and I am also a big Vivienne Westwood fan. The evening dress is stunning. Although it's 1930s it also reminds me of an earlier era mid 1920s. Makes me think of Lady Mary the character from Downton Abbey who always looks so elegant and stylish.
You certainly have an eye for the good stuff.

Thrift stores (as we call them in the States) or what I like to call "unique boutiques" ;) were the norm for me growing up and I have happily extended that throughout my adult life. When I visited the North of England, all of my souvenirs were bought in charity shops or car boot sales including a metric set I bought for my Father for 2 pounds that he loved. All of your finds are so lovely...though the evening dress ,the black skirt and vest are EVERYTHING!

Fly are a somewhat designer company, £6 for a pair of their shoes is a steal! I have a pair myself and paid considerably more for them!
Although I love the land at Bealtaine I have missed seeing inside the cottage 😊

II absolutely love your style. That dress is gorgeous and those shoes are fabulous, wonderful finds. I have a Clothing reselll business on EBay. I'm always at garage sales and thrift stores. And now I only buy pre owned clothing and I love it. We're helping to recycle and save a tone of money. I will keep my eye out for a Vivian piece for you, you never know what you will run into. Awesome haul!!!!!!
I'd love to go on an adventure to some of those shops! I'm a forager and markets can be so much fun. You got a nice haul and some wonderful styles. I was looking at some of Vivienne's jackets and they are beautiful. I especially like the plaid ones with collars that can be down or up. But they sure are pricey! Wow!

Alot of the shops from the high street use cheap labour with dreadul conditions often in third world countries and are of poor quality , recycling is the way forward

I completely embrace the ethics of charity shop clothes. To be creative in as many areas of life as possible, including self-presentation, is wonderful. Felt like I could feel these fabrics as well as see them. What a nice way to be abundantly frugal and have fun. I've been into this all my life. MORE please!

Fantastic treasures! I love the raven skirt and like the lace trim as is. You really have an eye! My grand daughter and I do a lot of thrift shopping together. I bought a very sheer mint green linen over blouse a few weeks back for 3 dollars. And, yesterday, I thought of you as I dressed because I played dress up, putting on a fancy summer dress and then, something I would not have thought of doing before watching your videos, I dressed it down a notch with the over blouse, added a turquoise necklace, sandals...and went down town to shop. The dressing up for the fun of it...just to please myself is a new attitude for me. Thanks for all of the ways your creative spirit, in all its generosity, ignites the spark in others!
Colette, you did so great with your clothes finds! What a treasure of vintage dresses! You are inspiring me to get on my exercise bike and start going through my wardrobe. I have one pair of black silk evening slacks with small embossed gold tassels in the fabric. I think I will dig them out and hang those evening slacks on the bedroom door! They are very 1940s Katherine Hepburn. Good job!
I love the clothes you found. I've been a vintage/thrift store clothes shopper since the 70s, and still going stronger than ever. Now, everything must be pre-owned to enter my house (with few exceptions of course). I'm told I have great style and flair, but really it is a love of good quality organic fabrics and an eye for a good cut. Power to those who support charities while recycling beautiful things.

All made by myself over a long period of time from scrap waste broken tiles scavenged at the local Tile Store in Carrick. Cost...just the price of a bag of cement. Lots more about this on the website bealtainecottage.com where you can find over 15,000 photographs of everything Bealtaine!

My in-laws spend their days "foraging" in Holywood, Bangor and Belfast and their daily numerous finds fetch them a fair few pennies, courtesy of Ross's. The charities there are amazing. I can't' wait to come over again. Way too many years with my feet off of Irish soil.

This is my passion!! I try to never buy new for my clothes and household furnishings, and anything I’m no longer using I donate back. 😊 I’m envious of your best dress!! Lucky girl, it’s stunning!!!
Love the skirt! I can visualize you in the fancy dress all dolled up for an outing😉, you’ll look fab! Our second hand shops (USA) are expensive, especially for good quality or nice things. I have a friend who travels with an empty suitcase [apart from her make-up, toilet bag and 2 pairs of knickers! Everything else is bought on her travels, though not always from charity shops.

That green bolt of material with Chinese characters is simply sensational. Just want to share a bit of my paltry knowledge.....If my memory serves me well I believe I have seen the printed classical verses in extracts from the Etiquette/Ethics content of the book known as The Ancient Chinese Almanac, also known as the T'ung Shu or the 'All
Knowing Book'. The origin of the book is ancient; dates back millennia. It is published annually with calender updates for the much sought after calculation of auspicious dates throughtout a particular calender year.
Originally, the ancient text is a guide to serve a purpose similar to the western Farmer's Almanac; with treasured instructions and wisdom pertaining to the seasons, lunar influence as well as the best time for planting/sowing, herbal knowledge etc.
Later, as the book evolved it also includes divination, instructions for calculation of auspicious time/date for important endeavours, philosophy, culture and teachings on proper etiquette and behaviour in social interactions.
All in all a worthy book, aiming for the good with nothing untoward. I have seen very reasonably priced translated copies of the T'ung Shu for sale on the internet though I haven't read the translated English version myself. Perhaps.... I might acquire a translated copy out of curiosity.
Most traditional Chinese family like to keep atleast one vintage copy (the older, the better) of the T'ung Shu as a talisman at home.

The only clothes that I afford myself are from "Thrift Stores" here in Arkansas mostly but when visiting in Texas where my children live I try to find more refined and, as you, find beautiful pieces that make my day. I'm thinking we are soul-sisters, I too have lost a lot of weight and need clothes that fit. So you've inspired me to check the Thrift Shops the next time I go to town. My vehicle has been in repair and I'm anxiously awaiting it's return, lol.
