Did this car pass california tail pipes emissions? How much boost did it produce on the dyno when it made 610rwhp?
Yep, passed Ca emissions no problem--everything had EO numbers, even the shortblock, a CHP 347e 347 stroker with AFR195 Renegade heads. The car made the above dyno numbers with the stock pulley, which registered 15psi. I added larger 1-3/4 shorty headers and a full 3-inch catted exhaust system (to try and recover some power I'd lose by lowering the boost with the larger pulley) and pullied it back to 10psi later, which dropped power to 583hp and 568 lb-ft at what I felt was a safer boost level. I never could string a good pass together at the track, but it ran a best of 10.7 @ 130, with more left in it.
very impressive dyno numbers at 10psi. How much more wiggle room do you think you had left on the tail pipe sniffer. The cam you chose is grinded on a 114lsa. A little more overlap but not too much more to where it blows the boost out is what im trying to nail for max efficiency. Im thinking if it would have had 3 or 4 degrees extra over overlap it would have barely passed. What is the compression of the motor? Did you guys do a tricks to get it to pass the sniffer. Lower grade fuel etc, timing adjustments.
Sorry, just saw this. There was a little wiggle room with some tricks, as you said, but my next step was to swap the long rockers for 1.5s or 1.6s to take some out of the cam, but I eeked by. You're right, I think if I went with a custom cam, I could have made even more while burning cleaner. Are you considering a smog legal setup?
