@@BlackRoyalty_ that is objectively incorrect. Moss is the most talented receiver to ever play. Unfortunately he didn’t play for great QBs for most of his career and his ego hindered some of his success. Again, it’s the most talented vs the most successful.

So he had longevity and got the ball when folks were concentrating on stopping the run. Rice by far has the best career and stats as a WR, so that makes him the GREATEST, but Moss is better. Fitz is better, Megatron is better, AB is better. They don't have Rice's fanatical dedication. They don't have his willpower. They don't have his drive. They don't have his rings. But at the skill of running a route and catching the ball? Those guys are better. Same argument goes for Brady. Undoubtedly the GOAT, but at the skill of reading a D and throwing the ball, the essence of Quarterbacking, Rodgers, Mahomes and Manning are better.
@@adammcnabb5167 Yeah, Manning throws an ugly ball, but he does know where to throw it and he does it based on alignment pre-snap with post snap adjustments. Dude can actually audible the play POST snap. He is a better QB, but definitely not a GREATER one than Brady.
Ill never forget watching jerry against in the early 2000s being unguardable against my broncos. Together with tim brown these 2 old veterans just kept having great games against us with amazing route running and just flat out outplaying and outsmarting our secondary. During the 2002 season these same raiders were the reason we didnt make the playoffs.
As an old Saints fan, back when the Saints were in the NFC West, I always dreaded going up against the 49ers. Even in the days of the badass "Dome Patrol" when the Saints had the #1 defense in the NFL -- he was scary. For folks saying "Disregard the numbers" they are effectively saying "Disregard reality."
I'm an old 9ers fan and I loved going against your Saints (almost as much as the Rams), especially when they had the "Dome Patrol" label just to bring you'll beck to reality! Ohhh, the fun!
Yeah, that's also because defenses weren't as pass prepared, yeah the dbs could use more hands & etc, but the defenses themselves were less prepared to stop the pass system wise. @@toreworld5820like unc said. The terms in the games you see, yac and rac were made because of rice. That’s more special than having one catch named after you
Rice has even said, Randy is more physically talented than him and that if he had put the work that Rice did, he would probably be the GOAT. These are interesting arguments but I think the biggest hinderance to Randy is him bouncing around from team to team. Part of that is on him, his work ethic, and effort as a teammate. But the years with Tom Brady would be evidence if Randy had a pro bowl QB his whole career (Montana, Young) his numbers might have been better. But they aren't and at the end of the day its about your production.
Or maybe Montana and Young were pro bowl because THEY HAD Jerry Rice? How many pro bowl QBs DON'T HAVE pro bowl wide outs? They benefit from each other. Also Culpepper was a pro bowler and Randy had Cris Carter opposite of him for a few years. It's not like Moss played with Mark Sanchez or something 😂
At least we can all agree that Rice Moss and TO were are the best receivers of all time yet as the NFL become more pass dominant we’re not seeing any wide receivers come close.
The way people just casually disrespect Jerry Rice is insane. Randy was an exceptional talent, but Jerry was exceptional regardless of who was behind center or where he played. He consistently showed up in the biggest moments throughout his entire career...and he did all of his damage in a league significantly less pass happy!
What do you consider to be pass happy?? Joe Montana averaged 28 pass attempts per game. That's throwing a LOT!! When he retired, he was 4th all time in passing attempts. We gotta stop with this narrative
Let not disregard Shannon mentioning how Randy walk of the ball not playing hard at time. You don’t get points for that. Sorry I put T.O. Above Moss he has better talent and also imposed his will on defenses

Roger Craig won MVP in 1988 and had 2000 yards for a reason...Rice wasn't even the main focus of the 49er offense. So the fact he had the numbers he had in the 80's is even more impressive
Roger Craig never won league mvp. He was offensive player of the year that year rushing for 1500 yards and catching 500. Nobody mentions that Jerry Rice and Randy Moss have unique gaits that allowed them to catch the ball in stride. Very few players have every had gaits like this at the elite level. That allowed them to stay in the same running motion throughout the play. The two hundred meter Olympic Champion Michael Johnson also had a unique gait in track and field, and this helped propel him to the top. Michael Jordan seemed to hang in the air that extra split second on his jump shot, essentially taking away the ability of the defender to block the shot. He also had massive hands which allowed him to palm the ball and change directions at any point, including in flight (unlike Kobe Bryant, who had much smaller hands).

Where is this myth coming from? The '80s were NOT run dominated. the '70s were. Further, I'm not aware of any serious pro football fan that consistently tries to put anyone ahead of Rice and for good reason. He's the GOAT. Usually, I'M the only one saying that only Don Hutson can compete with him for GOAT.
The two RBs, 1 TE, and 2 wide receivers formation is so archaic 😅. Watching Favre in the 90s in that formation in highlights and replayed games I was like, “Where is the rest of his receivers?!” Props to those that played in that era and succeeded. QBs and WRs had to be great then. Defenses didn’t have to really worry about 4-5 WRs beating them.
It was called the Run n Shoot offense. The problem why it wasn’t more successful, was because you needed to max protect your QB. Your QB would get destroyed. And you could just bump and re route receivers back then. That’s the point. You are watching a completely different game now.

Jerry also won Rich Gannon an mvp when he was 40 years old putting up 1211 yards. When the question is wide receiver, the answer is Jerry.
This sounds like the same conversation about Mr. Jordan and Lebron, and it sounds weird hearing Shannon back up Mr. Rice instead of Moss just because its football. Every argument Shannon made about Mr. Rice is the same argument that is made about Mr. Jordan.
Is it possible to make the argument since the 90s wasn’t passing as much as running, that it was an edge for a good qb/wr combo to do something that the league hasn’t seen before (at that time) and is still learning/trying to figure out when an offense was gonna pass? Unlike today where all coaches and defenders do is coach and practice for the pass making it much harder to pass now than it was then?
Yea no. The game today is literally set up for the passing attacks to succeed. Not only were the defensive rules more lax in the 80s and 90s, the QBs were less protected.
@luddman77 - moss started in the late 90s. Rice started in '85. Totally different games. The way you could be physical with WRs in the 80s is a different level.
Jerry, Moss, and T.O. in that order for me. I also wouldn't be upset to swap T.O. and Moss spots because there was a time where Moss wasn't happy and just wasn't giving it his all and didn't care. Yes it was the trash Raiders era, but still, it didn't matter where T.O. was or who his QB was, he was going to ball out. Even in his unhappy Philly year he was killing it before all the drama went down. Regardless, I'll say Rice, Moss, then Owens.

Jerry is the Tom Brady of the WR position. Never the most talented but a work ethic and competitive nature that was on a whole other level along with that clutch gene that just can't be taught.

I will always say this it’s 1.Jerry Rice 2. TO 3. Randy Moss I will always put TO above Randy because what ever you need him to do he do it pass block, run block, etc it does matter cause he will give you everything he got. When comes to Randy Moss I will never forget when he say h plays when he want to. And you have to remember when The Philadelphia Eagles made it to the super bowl with Donovan TO showed out….
I have the exact same top 3 as you

Thank you totally agree 👍
TO showed out on one leg and was the best player on the field for either team
I might take T.O. number 1, just based on what they could all do at Wr. T.O. was probably the most versatile tbh.
Rice is #1, and it'sd not even close
The amount of stick’em he used you didn’t even need to catch the ball. It’s randy number 1
@@Gmossy11 Moss was terrible in playoff games
@@Gmossy11all you do is make goofy arguments it seems lol
It matters far more when other people consider you to be the GOAT than if you are doing it yourself. You don't hear Michael Jordan needing to defend himself about where he ranks, just as Jerry doesn't need to - because we all do it for them. Anyone who watched football back then knew there was Jerry Rice as #1, and then there was everyone else. No shot against Randy who was great at going deep and out-jumping guys, but Jerry was the complete package.
“When you’re good at something, you’ll tell everyone. When you’re great at something, everyone will tell you.” - Walter Payton
Kings don't have to tell people they're kings.
Jerry Rice’s numbers are so crazy that the only way my brain can conceive Jerry’s numbers is that he went into the computer and adjusted his stats. There’s Jerry Rice and everyone else is playing for 2nd
Agree 100% Jerry Rice best receiver. Also I remember Jerry stating to be the best you got to run a lot of practice cone drills to make those hard slants/cuts to be capable to do it in the game making it hard for defenders to do the same guarding you.
Jerry Rice played during one of the most brutal and hard eras of football. He wasn't the biggest, fastest, strongest. But he practiced harder than anyone else, ever, and that helped him to succeed. And he didn't act a clown like moss. Jerry played every day, every game. Moss said himself he only plays sometimes. Rice is an example and hero for kids, and idol. Moss wasn't. Jerry isn't just the greatest receiver of all time, he is one of if not the best football players of all time, and on top of that, Jerry Rice is one of the greatest ATHLETES of all time.
Jerry is by far the 🐐 I saw both of them play, and Randy did his thing but he didn’t change the position as much as he says. Jerry truly changed the position!
They had to create defenses for Randy Moss😂
@@luddman77what defense did they have to create? A corner playing off of Moss and a safety over the top. What is new about that?
@@357twilson it was how deep the safety was. The safety was basically in prevent defense in a 1st & 10. It was unheard of and randy still smoke them. He was doing this as a rookie.
@@luddman77 no they didn't, they just had to double team him like they did for Rice. The exaggerations aren't gonna work on people who saw them both play. Rice is by far the 🐐
Are you serious? The term you got Mossed was created because of how dominant he was.
Stop Moss was a great deep route runner, and turned that one thing into a HOF career. Never took contact, never made the big catch when it mattered most.
This. It's like arguing between AI and Kobe. You may love AI but Kobe was the far better player overall. That's not a diss.
Just say you never actually saw Moss play
@MuckNoya Naw kid I've been here watching football since 82 and I saw at least 5 Wrs in my lifetime I would rather have. My frame of reference doesn't start with his stats and some youtube highlights. Oh and for the record. Rice, Brown, Calvin Johnson, Cris Carter, Art Monk.

Jerry Rice caught 22TDs in a strike season playing only 12 games in 1987. Only his 3rd year in the NFL. How long did it take Randy to score at least that many in a single season? His 10th season. And that was with the 2007 Patriots with 4 more games played. Jerry's the fking GOAT.
Stats aren’t everything
@@dean3438 "stats arent everything" bro produced more in a less qb friendly game. Moss was great, but I cant pick him over the dude who performed better in big games, played at a high level longer, and had better production at his peak. @@Dameatii I’m not defending moss but I’ll take him and Calvin Johnson over guys like rice. The level of nfl players was different in the 1980s /1990s the talent just keeps getting better. Moss is the better player
nobody that watched Rice and Moss throughout their careers would say that Moss was a better player. If Randy Moss had Rice's insane work ethic and commitment to contributing to a winning culture, then things might have turned out differently

I'm going with Moss. But Randy did get lazy when he wasn't getting the ball or happy on the field, which effected his game especially later in the season.
I LOVE MOSS but after watching Jerry’s “A football life” documentary I changed my mind. Rice is the GOAT! He is like the Michael Jordan of all skill position players to ever play in the NFL😤🔥
So help Randy case, Jerry played in a run first era, which mean 8 man fronts, which mean more ppl to stop the run and less to stop the pass. The coverages weren’t the same
Why are there way more passing yards in today’s game then?
False. The majority of teams in the 80s and 90s played 2 deep.

You can’t say they ran the ball alot when he had a multiple 100 Receptions seasons. Even most receivers in today game cant get numbers like that
But they did as in the NFL in a whole was run heavy back then... but the 9ers had rice and rice was killing folks
Say you young without saying you young smh... You had to be around then
rice stats are crazy considering teams ran alot more back when he played
You have to account for who is throwing the ball too throughout their career.
Facts look at the damage done the minute he linked up with Brady and this was past moss prime at that… broke Rice td record
So it's Jerry's fault he got drafted with Montana and young? Pathetic argument. Should've told the vikings to draft better
@cky7765 you can say it's pathetic because you don't watch football closely. Football more than most sports is the ultimate team game. That is why individual awards are ridiculous.
In 1986 Jerry had 1570 yards and 15 td. Montana had 2236 yards and 8 passing touchdowns on 62% completion and only started 8 games. Jeff Kemp played the rest of the year with 1554 on 59% completion. That is more yards than every season Randy had but 1 in an era that was run first. It goes beyond the names on the jersey playing qb when you really look into it. Jerry also won Rich Gannon an mvp when he was 40 years old putting up 1211 yards. When the question is wide receiver, the answer is Jerry.
@@bradybimson9106 Does Jerry hold the record of most yards in a season? If not, why?
Randy played in the same era. He played in the running back era, but he changed the game.
@luddman77 - moss started in the late 90s. Rice started in '85. Totally different games. The way you could be physical with WRs in the 80s is a different level.
@@cheaton75 they were still physical in the late 90s

Jerry, Moss, and T.O. in that order for me. I also wouldn't be upset to swap T.O. and Moss spots because there was a time where Moss wasn't happy and just wasn't giving it his all and didn't care. Yes it was the trash Raiders era, but still, it didn't matter where T.O. was or who his QB was, he was going to ball out. Even in his unhappy Philly year he was killing it before all the drama went down. Regardless, I'll say Rice, Moss, then Owens.
