- I can't say that I've ever had such a reaction from a single bite of food - I find myself asking the question - "Seriously now, WHAT do they put IN this?! It is INCREDIBLE!"
Welcome to Surat Thani, one of the centers of SOUTHERN Thai food, and the newest location for this 2022 summer's adventure. Personally I had yet to visit Surat Thani, and so after 13 years here in Thailand, I am super stoked to come!!
Thank you for joining us today, and I hope that this crazy recipe for the house specialty dish "Nam Prik Goong Siap" has you jumping out of your chair (to purchase tickets to Thailand, or just for the exercise, because both are good things to do right now!!**).
The lovely family running this restaurant also prepares the slightly sour rice noodles with curry and vegetables, a huge selection of Southern Thai curries, AND the servings of deep fried fish with shrimp paste (I got the latter 2, there were no noodles remaining once Li and I found our way here for lunch), I can highly recommend this place for a breakfast/early lunchtime spot in Surat Thani main town area.

The chalkiness in plant-based foods is often caused by oxalic acid. It's the textural sensation that people experience when eating spinach, when oxalic acid reacts with calcium in saliva. This could be what's happening with curry and cashew leaves.

I really like it when Li is participating in the eating, tasting, commenting from the beginning of a video! Showing your teamwork is great! Another awesome find! Sorry; can't help identify the mushroom or pak ( leaves) but my wife tells me that the "Siap" in "Nam Prik Goong Siap" refers to a wood skewer that the shrimp are put on and roasted.

สวัสดีครับโจ & ลี it’s a เห็ดแครง Splitgill mushroom. and for กุ้งเสียบ is the way they preserve the shrimp in the south, they skewer(เสียบ) the shrimp put salt and smoked or grilled it until it’s dry.

I live in north Florida where we have a thriving community of Thai people. I like to make them laugh when I ask for my pad thai be (เผ็ดมาก). Asian spices don't phase me because I'm a freak of nature with a high tolerance
Don't get me wrong. I love the USA but where I live it's the same.staples all the time. We would have to drive a few hours to taste anything different. You guys are RUINING me for regular Texas food and we have great food! I just want to try Asian, Indian, African, so many I see on yt.....gonna cry. Love you guys!

Mmmmm Fried fish there nothing like that classic dish with some seafood chili green sauce along with some simple steamed rice and what I like to do is to crush some peanuts and sprinkle over top then down the hatch😋. I remember the first time having a dish like this in Luang Prabang.. above the riverside and a Pregnant cat so patient and graceful .. I ended sharing half the fish and all the bones with her .. both were satisfied * big o belly rub and a ☺️* enjoy Li & Joel 🙏🙏

I like to think I am open to try most dishes, except the live fish & squid dishes which I have never tried. My first experience with gapi I was offered it as a dip with raw papaya, a small block of thick brown fermented paste from Isaan that you could smell 20 paces away before you saw it. I have to admit that unfortunately my experience was beyond dislike of taste. The smell, taste, texture actually repulsed me to the point I will physically push it away. I am sure I eat it frequently as an ingredient of many Thai dishes, but in it's raw form I cannot handle it.
