  • I spend the day chasing smallies on the river and share some tips and tricks I use to catch them. The methods I use here will catch fish from the time they finish spawning in early June here in MN through early October when the water cools and the fish move off the river into deeper water.

Those summer sounds of the river sure are great! I have a half hour sound clip of nature’s symphony from a late summer day on the river that I’ll play on my home stereo every now and then during winter.

This is what I believe sites like You Tube wanted to give a platform to those who truly are gifted who know how to entertain. So many channels try to force themselves on the viewer, within first 15 secs "Subscribe, Like, hit the bell", without ever really letting the viewer see their content. They need to watch you, Matt you have such a way about you that we all here are drawn to this channel. Like so many others, I could watch all day! Thanks!

Thanks Matt. It’s great to hear your thoughts as you fish the river. I will use your some of your tips next time I’m out. It has been a tough summer on my local river. The topwater bite has been nonexistent. Most productive lure has been a tube jig followed by a ned rig with a TRD. Slower fishing dragging along bottom. Its been a very hot summer. Hoping things will pick up in the fall as things cool down. Thanks again for the video

another winner video, nice. I pick up a few lil things every time. The fish you catch are IMMENSE, but i know you appreciate what you get to do very much, and don't take it for granted. Isn't it cool how the river maintains certain familiar fishy spots, yet always seems to change, especially after a big storm. Amazing places to enjoy in a kayak.

Thanks Tom! There’s one smallie that had a unique tail and scar I caught in the same spot three years in a row right at the start of September! They definitely have favorite spots to hang out!

Another great video. Who needs TV when you can watch this? Lol I have to hand it to you. I think you are the consummate smallie pro. From your boat positioning, to your accurate casts, your gear, and your total approach to fishing all I can do is salute your commitment. It has made me a better fisherman. Thanks for sharing!

This guy knows his business....catching big smallies out of creeks and streams without getting hung every other cast and getting tangled by the fish or taken under a rock is quite an achievement.....

This is easily as good of a smallmouth video as I have watched...sound of rippling water, nature, and splashing smallies. Minimal, intelligent, and very informative commentary with real enthusiasm...nothing fake going on here including loud, ridiculous, and obnoxious music. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again...RUclipsrs that make & post fishing videos, take note, this is the gold standard of how it is done! Watch and learn...
