    He is the Bob Ross of fishing. Quiet, calm, soothing, no screaming, yelling, over excited orgasmic moaning and exclamations. Just low keyed enjoyment.

    Matt, I cant tell you how much I’ve learned from watching your videos. From paddling with one hand, how you position your net, your kayak setup, and most importantly, your level of calmness in landing a big fish. Just last week I purchased a whopper plopper 110 in perch color because of this pike vid and proceeded to catch over a dozen pike and a dozen largemouth soon after. You’ve seriously improved my kayak fishing and for that I can’t thank you enough. Keep up the amazing work! By far the best fishing videos out there!

    This channel is not underrated....I rate it as real & one of the best... it is non-frabricated (not like slick promotionals...geared for ads) but, rather, basic fun on the water... with exciting results. It's not exuding the biggest, or best, or the bragging "non- rights", ...it's the joy of fishing, rain or shine. Hmmmmm ? Wish I were there...Thanks for sharing the adventures and your experiences.

    I'm really enjoying your videos. Like many others have commented, your laid back style keeps the focus on the fishing and makes your videos so enjoyable to watch. I also wanted to let you know that after watching this video, I ordered a set of Whopper Ploppers (I had never even heard of them before), and tried them for the first time today. I just wanted to see the action so I took a few casts off a little dock on Lake Wingra here in Madison, WI (it's a small lake 336 acres with a max depth of 14 feet), and on about the 4th cast I hooked into what turned out to be a 38" musky - my first ever! I didn't have steel leader or a landing net but the guys at the Wingra Boat house come to my rescue with a net and helped me land the fish and get a picture. Now I can't wait to get out on my kayak with the Whopper Ploppers and try some other spots around the lake. Thanks!

I've been fishing for local muskies with no success until I watched this and picked up a choppo 120 - last weekend I had a decent muskie or pike come straight up at it, but he must have been cross-eyed because he missed by about a foot. The strike was close to the boat and boy did it wake me up! Shame I didn't land him but that was my first massive topwater strike, so thank you for showing us how it's done. Congrats on that massive smallie on Grandpa's mouse lure btw!

      Ok I went back to the same spot this weekend and hooked into a muskie on the Choppo after maybe 20 minutes on the water. It was such an exciting strike, and I had it to the boat in about a minute. Unfortunately my split ring didn't hold up and it ripped open with the lure still in the fish before I could net her. I feel terrible for her, going to go back and pray that I catch her again to get it out. Otherwise that lure is gold! BTW she was about as long as my 42 inch jon boat is wide!

    As usual killer vid! Be careful with that 50lb, I had it break on the hookset once so now never go less than 80. There are some thin tie able wires out there though. Flurocarbon sinks as well and is pretty bulky when you get past 50lb.

    Great video.
    It would be interesting to see you run a test of a steel leader vs the fluoro leader to see the results.

    • @ndyakangler
      @ndyakangler  4 года назад +8

      The way I see it when fishing a topwater lure a steel leader is going to sink down in front of the lure any time I pause it. When I miss a strike I like to pause the lure like it was stunned, then give it some light twitches to make it look injured. With a steel leader it’s going to sink down in front of the face of the fish staring down my lure, then to give it a light twitch I’ll have to pull in that slack the sinking leader created which is going to effect the action of the twitch. I’m sure sometimes the fish, especially pike, won’t care but sometimes they’re picky and either of those two reasons could be a difference maker in them deciding not to bite.
      I know fluoro sinks too but it’s not nearly as heavy/dense as steel. I’ll have to pause it next to me next time I use a fluoro leader and see if it does sink, as far as I could tell the buoyancy of the lure and the braided line was enough to hold that fluoro leader on the surface like a bridge.

    Just reviewed this video with the plopper. It refreshed my memory that I should have remembered watching this video before asking you if you ever used the Wopper Plopper before. I still have a hard time comprehending that there are small rivers in the country that have such large fish, large quantities of fish and so many different species. Thanks for sharing your fishing adventures again.

    A fella in Wausau told my husband something, that works like a charm!
    While fishing top water Rapala lures,...if a Musky strikes at a top water, and you miss him, hurry to put down that pole, and pick up another rod, with a crawdad or worm on it, and start jogging the spot where he struck your top water.
    They will hit the worm on the way down!
    Works almost ever time!
