Am enjoying your peaceful approach to fishing, especially your philosophy of "Catch and Release". I practice the same: enjoy the catch, but enjoy even more, seeing life returned to its place in Nature. Dave
Your "Struggles of a Kayak Fisherman" is the best video on the internet. I make every one of those goofs every day. But, watching all the fishing videos on RUclips, I felt like I was the only one.
I was on a small Crown lake here in Ontario this morning in my kayak. Just a few campers, no other boats, larger craft can’t make use of the shallow launch. It was awesome. I fish there often for the solitude and the Smallies are big!
First fish of the year and it is a musky? And, two muskies in a day!!! I think you are in for a great year of fishing! Your fishing videos are some of the best on RUclips. I love that you use a head-mounted camera with that second camera mounted on the kayak.
"Really just wanted to catch one more fish." Musky, Pike, Musky. Yep, needed to bookend the pike with another musky! Great first day fishing...glad it went so well for you!
Matt, I really appreciate your videos, I like the 'No music' attitude you take which makes them peaceful and tranquil. The scenery is always beautiful and the fish you catch are world class! Thank you so much for posting these! If I may, I have a request, would it be possible for you to do a vid on your method of using a few of your lures? From the vids you can see where and how to cast but retrieve is element in cast and retrieve. I've been fishing all my life and am now 71 but I must say, I have learned quite a bit from you and you're never too old to learn! I'd love to see your tech on the swim baits, the GT360, the Spook and a few others of your (most used) lures. There is a trick my dad taught me long ago that I see you use on surface which is the old hesitation move where you let the lure sit for a few seconds, then continue retrieve. Again, keep those vids coming! Often when I am fishing the next day I watch one of your vids to fire me up! -Tom :)
About to take the kids fishing, finishing up my coffee, and then this pops up on my feed. Nice. A little motivation before we go! 🤙 we can't chase muskies until next month, season is closed. Just bluegill and bass today! Haha. Great first fish of the year!!!
Thats a great session! Good to get back out on the water with you! Those were three beautiful pristine fish! Your first fish of the season takes some beating..
Matt, thank you for bringing us along on your first trek of the season, and what an adventure, two huge muskies and a big pike! I can't think of a better way to get the season off to a great start! Take care and be safe, anxiously awaiting your next video!
I have been watching you about every day for the last three years. And you have made me want to get a kayak. So I went out and bought a kayak and I’ll be going to my nearby, lakes and creeks. My first day will be in may. I can’t wait. Happy fishing
Just got my kayak out for the first time yesterday here in Illinois. Didn’t catch anything, but it felt great! Love your videos. They inspire me to keep making time to enjoy one of my favorite hobbies. Thank you.
Utterly fantastic Matt wicked to have you back the predators are just starting to wake up here in UK perch pike and zander Thanks for another fab video can't wait for the next 1 👍🎣🐳👏
I bet that snow is pretty much gone by now, and I bet that river is nearing flood stage!! Best of luck to all of you in the Fargo and Moorhead area!! Stay safe.
GREAT video! First one of the 2023 fishing season! Loved seeing the pics on IG the other day! Great first fish of the season...that's a great sign...if you believe in that sort of thing. I was able to fish close to a bed here the other day but all I got were those little "territorial" bites. The water clarity was about like you had on this day so I could see him watching my lure but NO FISH were biting that day for ANYONE out there.
I've had many boats but I'm about to get my first kayak because of your vids. Thx for the inspiration to get back to fishing a lil cheaper than I used to.👍
There’s lots of places I can go with a kayak where regular boats can’t! This spot here I saw someone try to launch a power boat off a trailer once. They ended up having to get a tow truck to pull them out.
@@ndyakangler Wow sad they even allow power boats on a river like that. I have 9 yo twin boys and wondering what age would be a good time to get them in kayaks to fish?? They are already great little fisherman and good swimmers lol.
@@nickwojtow6787 I'm not a parent, but for what it's worth I would probably keep them within eyesight for kayak fishing. PFD should always be worn, and I recommend sunglasses for safety as hook sets and casts are a little different out of a kayak. As any experienced paddler will tell you, and certainly any kayak fisherman, the oddest things happen when in a kayak, especially if you're fighting wind or current. I'd say once they're 12 or 13 and can maneuver a kayak effectively you can send them out on their own.
@Nick Wojtow I don't see why they couldn't. As long as they listen, and use a pfd I don't see why they shouldn't be able to. Probably stick to smaller lakes, or slow moving rivers at first. Places they can learn without worrying about wind, current, or boats.
Thank you for putting all this content out for us. We just got our first fishing kayak. I'm learning a lot about "boat management" watching you fish, land fish, etc. The river I have to fish is fairly swift moving, trout and smallies then it runs into the lake caused by the hydroelectric dam and we get pike, muskie and cats. Lots of opportunities to fish for different species. I don't think I'm quite confident on the water to bring in a muskie, just yet, lol. I like your genuine take on things and your willingness to show us a goof up every now and then. Also, THANK YOU for not pushing the Like, Subscribe, Patrion etc.
Being that I'm from Ontario i like that your channel has a more northen prospective compared to the more crowded prospective of all the southern fishing channels which are very good but yours has more variety for fisherman in northen climates, I really enjoy your vids especially the video with the big rat lure.
3 Monster fish like that would make a epic miracle day of fishing down here in Georgia. Thank You for taking all of us along on another of your wonderful days of fishing.
I lived in the F-M area for several years in the late 60's and 70's. With all the agricultural run-off it never occurred to me that the rivers in the area would produce the kind of fish you're hauling in. Any fishing I did was in the DL area. Maybe the water quality has improved or I was just unaware of the potential of the rivers. Catch-and-release saves some for the next time and the next guy. Nicely done!
Don't know much about muskie fishing but, two in one day? Unreal as some people fish forever with only one caught. Absolutely phenomenal day, thanks for sharing.
Hey Matt, what a great day of fishing you had catching all those big musky & pike! I lived there in Minnesota for a while up in Ada Borup and got to fish in some the sweetest rivers full of huge walleye but there's nothing like catching a huge musky! I've been watching your videos for a while now & I'm amazed at all the fish you catch especially all the smallies! Great videos for sure & Thank you for sharing your videos!!
I feel like your channel gives the best example of why we enjoy fishing Not trying to push a sponsor/brand, not a ton of over talking, just the peacefulness of being in nature casting a few lines. Good luck this year man I just went out today for panfish in southern Minnesota
Great video bro. I was particularly enamored with the scenery, that glassy surface giving great reflection action and those snowy overhangs, what a gorgeous stretch of river! And I didn't forget about those absolute beasts you hooked! Awesome!
Watching a video like this is a real treat to myself in my weekend. Indeed a gorgeous relaxing footage in that sunny day with all that snow around. Those three beauties (look at that pike!) are quite a blessing which make you love going again to the river to fish. The feeling of satisfaction in the drive back home must be indescribable, that’s for sure! That plastic lure tested made its job.
What makes your videos great, besides the calm and high quality presentation, and your expert level of skill, is you just clearly love fishing, and it comes across every video. But this one’s a bit different. In the north country you think about fishing all winter and there’s no better feeling than getting back on the water.
I hit this stretch on Friday but didn't even see a fish. It's been a weird winter here though, lots of way warmer than average temps. Usually timing is everything for that early bite, get out there the first day or two the temps rise above freezing in the spring and most of the time I'll catch a few. We've had above freezing temps off and on all winter so I think that pattern is out the window this year.
Every day and year presents the fishing challenges. I live in upstate NY, last year, at ice out on my favorite pike spot and guys were catching big ones. I missed those first few days :(. Similar to you, this year we have had a pretty mild winter and over the last few days ice out happened, about 3 weeks earlier than usual and I was on the water - no followers though!
Saturday morning. *Coffee in hand* . New fishing vid. *Thank you* .
This.
Yep. It's become kind of a Saturday morning ritual with me and my boys.
Same here bro lol

Me too, I catch and release bass all the time! It really gives a good feeling to let them go! Nothing like fishing out of a kayak!😁👍🎣
Exactly, I got food at home, I love seeing the fish swim away
I don't...I fish for groceries...if they get caught by me, the next swimming they do is in some hot grease...that gives the best feeling...
@@Road_Rash 😂😂
With the price of oink, bok-bok and moo flesh these days, I eat nearly all I catch of reasonable size, but always respect catch limits etc.

Resting from a ankle injury and nothing more satisfying than watching your videos.
hey , i know you 👀
"Ahh yeah, that feels nice!"
I look forward to that feeling every spring
I love seeing all the places kayak anglers are able to reach! The privacy and peace you get because the goofballs can’t get where you can. Haha

Fish that big in such a small river, is amazing...
Nothing like a fresh bowl of ganja a tea and a new fishin vid in the mornin
Best addition to my Saturday morning.
Sweet Muskie. The ice is finally off the water for those of us dwelling near 49 degrees north. Going to be a good season.
The excitement in your voice while you try to calmly talk about that beautiful fish made the whole video worth it!
Love how you get them in the net quickly and get them back. In cold water they respond pretty well. Shows people how it’s done! 😊

My paralysis is made better knowing that you are having that so much fun to go fishing . Great work 🎉
Great to have you back Matt. I watch your videos with my 4 year old grandson. He loves shouting, "Get in the net!"
your casting ability is astonishing!!! Accuracy galore. Thanks again for your videos, man so calming and so exciting!

Such a tank and even your voice stays super calm reeling that one in! I would go from normal 2 hyperfuse 😂. Again an awsome video!!
