I don't quite agree that Marguerite is just "annoying." This may be an unpopular opinion, but she scared me the most. Her voice acting and movements were way scarier than Jack's. And her final boss form was probably the most disturbing.
Just a nitpick, but I find it strange that a lot of people keep referring to Mia as Ethan's girlfriend when the game explicitly states at the beginning and in other sections of the game that they're married.
I was confused too and I thought that the cause of this was because the lack of wedding rings, since the rings are shown in re8 but then again, it could've been lost/removed. The former for Mia and the latter for Ethan.
@@matt5842 lmfaooo I want an entire Spin Off With Joe “The Mold murderer-fists of Fury Mad Bayou Brawler!” yeeeeHaw, guy could Kill Tyrants if he wanted to
Sorry to necro, but i literally just played this section. Im replaying it before i start up Village. I had completely forgotten this section of the game existed. Its amazing how much depth it adds to Jack. I love when videogames make villians and monsters actually human beings.
Marguerite scared the hell out of me. All the other characters made me nervous, but I found her disturbing. Her appearance, the creepy voice and the ultimate form...
Jack scared me because of the reasons stated in this video. Marguerite scared me because she looked creepy and I’m afraid of bugs. They’re scary for very different reasons.
This entire game is homage to a lot of horror films, The Texas Chain Saw dinner, The grandma being in a wheelchair is the same in Texas Chainsaw, When you fight Jack he gets the scissors and says "Groovy" Reference to The Evil Dead and the Birthday tape is similar to the Saw films.
Its deliberate but that is the only similarity, the dinner scen, its a splice of Texas Chainsaw, Evil Dead, actually alot of Evil Dead in there and Silent Hill 1, I actually think its a homage and not trying to rop SH off and off course there is plenty of Resident Evil 1 in there too which paid homage to The Night of the living Dead movies and a load of B movies. Resident Evil is the American Horror Story of video games but now its scarier than both that tv show are earlier RE titles.
Love seeing you here. Did you review RE7 or just the 1st hour? You make great videos I hope to see more RE content from you. The DLC for this game alone can have an hour long video per piece of content there is just so much ❤️🦁🙏
@Nightling Bosconovitch Imagine going out of you way to type an unoriginal transphobic comment to a trans girl who commented 2 years ago. Pathetic, get a life
I never thought I'd say this, but this just might be my favourite Resident Evil game. And I feel resistant to this idea, since I have such a soft spot for REmake 1, but RE7 gave me something that I never thought I would see in a game: Fun Horror. I'ma huge Horror fan, and I collect Horror films. My favourite decade for Horror is the 80s. The reason for that is two-fold. 1) I prefer practical effects to CGI, 2) This was the decade of what I call "Fun Horror". You know, Re-Animator, The Deadly Spawn, Evil Dead, Creepshow, Return of the Living Dead etc.... This is the brand of horror that I love the most. It's horrific, but also fun. This is the brand of Horror that RE7 exhibits. I found myself laughing and being scared-shitless in equal amounts. The first signs of this come when Mia hacks off Ethans' arm. It's horrific, but funny as hell. As a side note, I was blown away - and I cannot understate that - at how my character ACTUALLY got hurt. You know, it wasn't some nebulous amount of HP that I lost, it was my arm! This never happens in games. Your character never actually gets hurt in this way. Later on if you get caught by Jack, he chops off your leg with a shovel, then places first aid on the ground and tells you to come and get it, leaving you crawling across the ground, it's hilarious! Or have you tried running him over with the car in the garage battle? Where he jumps on the roof and takes you for a ride, hilarious!! Then the car explodes and Jack becomes a walking fireball, you panic, but then he mockingly says "Look what you did, motherfucker"! And the game goes on like this. For this reason, it is my favourite RE game ever. I never thought I'd see this obscure, often misunderstood brand of fun 80s horror in a video game.
I agree completely. It's horror as a roller coaster. There's nothing wrong about deep moody and disturbing horror, but nothing wrong either with slashers. Variety is good. I like a deep disturbing horror experience in a movie, but If I'm gonna spend 10h there, I need some fun to balance it out. I also like how absurd it can get: how the hell did you reload that gun with your chopped off hand? In many places the game could have upped the horror (forbid you to reload and have to fight Mia with just the one clip for instance). Or the tragedy (what if the reason the Bakers could sew you back together was that you were contaminated by the"gift"?) But the choice to go for a fun ride experience worked perfectly for me nonetheless.
It makes more sense when you approach it from the perspective of it being partially inspired by the evil dead 2, rather than the standard undead affair.
As always, I love how you look past the top layers of games to see the beauty and design of narratives, level design, etc. So this game was definitely made for someone like you to break down, and there's so much to unpack! I love how the Molded's come in three forms, and are similar to each of the three Baker family members. Alas, fantastic video, and I love the long form approach.
Got borred waiting for Village, so I bought RE7 and finished it in one go, and I must tell it's amazing! Felt more like bingewatching some series on netflix!
it was awesome, having only watched it years ago on RUclips, playing it is a different story, i didnt think i could scream in pure terror before this game, well now i know
I played through the game 100+ times most likely it’s so much fun and the setting and vibes you get from it are really good re Village was so much more better tho I just wish it was actually scary hopefully the dlc will be scary
The scariest part for me is when you go to collect thee arm for the serum, you feel powerful and all, but that fucking kid scared the shit out of me in that part.
Ethan's character is very well designed, as he is suppose to be a vessel for the player, on top of never seeing his face the only time he speaks it was EXACTLY what I was thinking at that time. Very good Ethan is *best boy* 10/10 would recommend
CollDork Ethan is bland and never reacts to serious situations, which in turn makes you go wow Ethan must be a robot. idk about you but never killing someone your entire life and then stabbing your wife in the neck with a hatchet and have no STRESSFUL OR SICKENED RESPONSE is fucking amateur
If there is a downside to Ethan as a shell for the player to occupy, he's rather... boring. Mia on the other hand is an interesting character. Hope the ending where she lives is canon because I want to see more of her.
Niamh Green yea she definitely has a lot of secrets, and Ethan never really gets an explanation about how she was living a double life. maybe the dlc will go into this, I just got the second banned footage
I have always been confused about how when you get the serum, the thought of curing YOURSELF never came up. You have two, and use one on Jack leaving only one for one of the two girls, but at no point do they mention Ethan using it himself. He's obviously infected, what with having his hand previously sawed off but come out relatively fine, as well as your leg if you screw up with Jack. I think I would have enjoyed a perhaps more selfish option.
@@crypt5129 it's already confirmed that he's infected, its why Evelyne was able to start taking mental effect of him over the course of the game starting with hallucinations. He is by Capcom confirmed to be one of the infected hence his regeneration abilities. The meds aren't able to reattached severed limbs in any of the series
This was an interesting listen. But one thing i'll never understand is the resident evil communities beef with chris being muscular. It has little direct effect on the game, and as far as story progression goes, it makes sense that he got that way. You have a superhuman biological experiment thats been wanting you dead for 15 years... has kicked your ass on numerous occasions, and you fight monsters as a career. If you arent living in the gym and at the shooting range at that point, you're a dumbass. Chris being buff made sense.
I'm a little late, but I want to say something. It's okay being buff and high trained, but in the 5th chapter he was inhuman, do I have to remind you the "rock scene"?
It makes sense logically in a progression that was in turn possibly a fundamental mistake or at least mildly unfortunate in hindsight, as it went in line with games losing their horror identity and drifting towards yet another third person shooter, and away from the protagonist being an avatar of the player (who is supposed to feel scared) and towards player slipping into a superhero role, a fundamental inversion. As numerous entries show you can run the series as an anthology which crosses over with other entries in themes and lore but doesn't necessarily continue the story of the same characters, and it makes fundamental sense since eventually the character progression is exhausted. And just because prior games did something, doesn't mean they were perfect and that their decisions shouldn't be re-evaluated in order to keep the series from growing repetitive or abandoning the core appeal. A little reminder that RE1 has a protagonist choice, you can play either as Chris or as Jill, and Jill is anything but a tank. While both are trained combatants, neither would have been prepared for the situation they found themselves in. RE2 plays as Leon, a police rookie. RE3 brings back Jill. RE4 is Leon again, this time as a special agent. RE5 brings back Chris. RE6 brings back Leon and Chris again. It was simply well beyond time to stop bringing back protagonists.
Those saying that RE games are meant to be fixed camera games pisses mo off. Like, cmon now. Let us move on, forwards and not backwards. I hope REmake 2 is OTS or FP.
So...start of silent hill 2 ... I got a letter from my dead wife, she's been dead for 3 years Resident evil 7 I got a video from my wife, she's been missing for 3 years. Not quite the same, but close enough. XD
After beating Final Jack and making the decision, I was like "wait WTF there's MORE!?" and then realized, oh yeah, it wouldn't be classic RE without the final "lab" section, in this case it was the ship. Felt AMAZING
Dated a girl from Louisiana in my early twenties and I can confirm the events of this game do happen when I finally met the parents. It’s uncanny really.
I completed resident evil 8 village on normal about a week ago. It was my first full playthrough of a resident evil game and I loved 8 down to the core. Today I completed 7 on normal and I will say, it's much harder than 8. The resource management is much stricter and the enemies while less sparse, are much stronger in my opinion. I love both games and hope to play the rest of the series, the next game i plan to play is resident evil 4. That said, as if right now 8 is my favorite. I like it more than 7.
@Simon-Alexis Dubord Alien Isolation is so damn good, but I would say Silent Hill is even worse, especially the 2 first games, those were nightmare fuel.
An interesting effect of player vs character progression is that switching to Mia who we have no idea is a well trained agent should make a disconnect between our choices based on what we've learned of handling these enemies to handle the fact Mia has no weapons or anything, but it doesn't! We've got that bit we've learned but we're so confused about what's going on, what this ship is, where Ethan is etc that were still right there alongside Mia exploring and trying to understand who's fucking with us. That build up to Ethans badassery hasn't vanished from us as the player just bc were playing Mia, it just shifts to feeling like she's got her own right to be sick and tired of what's going on even as she and we are put off by how little we understand about the new environment. We lose that uncertainty making us hesitant at the same time as Mia remembers everything, so our mindset can fully focus on "time to kick the ass of anything that stands in my way" just as she becomes capable of providing that It's flipping genius!!
I really feel bad for Alien: Isolation. It did many things that the new Resident Evil did and it did them two years earlier. Don't get me wrong, the new Resi is an incredible experience but I'm just sad that a similar jewel seems to be unjustly overlooked. Also, Ragnar, you make the highest quality content on RUclips. Period.
Alien: Isolation was far from overlooked. It's a fantastic game, critically praised and loved by the fans. And as I said - it would have been wrong to turn this setting into an alien shoot-em-up later on. They did everything right in my opinion.
Thank you very much for the reply. I do actually agree with you completely. I guess all I wanted to say is that it seems we've forgotten about Alien: Isolation a bit. If anything it started a proper rejuvenation of the survival horror genre. Both games are simply put works of art.
Aron Redfield I hated Alien, I tried so hard to enjoy its amazing enviroment, but it's bullshitted me harder than any game I've ever played (I even got to the keeper gas room In the Evil Within,) I swear she was a 400 pound old lady that was constantly voiding her bowels, I'd hide in a closet (with the Motion tracker off) and holding my breath, and moving slowly....and that fucker would charge right in and find me. Somehow. It didn't even have to see me, it's like she was a damn French prostitute with elephantitis afflicted feet. I also knew that you were supposed to avoid the androids, but i was curious (it was on easy and I STILL couldn't kill one what the fuck?!) I was snacking him in the back of the head and using some special weapon against him, still eouldnt do shit. No game has ever tested my patience like that. No matter how I played I would always die, because the xenomorph chasing after me with a motion tracker. I mean I was always crouching (funny, I had a better chance running half the time cause he always knew where I was anyways. Actually, shit, my brother might've left the noise detector on for the kinect.....eh, I never make noise anyways unless my fan is on. Really, I think that game would be more entertaining for me WITHOUT that alien fucker. Agh. It was so pad, I'm getting flashbacks, oh man I despise that game. Everything was so good, except for that alien. I'd give it a solid 8.5 without the alien, with it, go me at least, 4. I can't give the experience justice. Hell, one time I was killed by the alien from a vent WHILE he was chasing me (no, there wasn't two, a second one didn't come along yet, it was still the beginning of the game. I even remember watching my brother play exactly like I did, and he was never killed. Infuriated me.
Nicklaus Kindelberger well it was frustrating for me too from time to time but that was the point of the game.the reason alien found you in locker was probably becouse you used to hide in lockers much and the AI of alien is adoptible which means if you hide in lockers or under tables much he will first check that places so you have to change your tactics. About that ventilation shaft kill ,if you mean when you have to initiate emeregency procedure to open the door after medical,it was an difficulty spike.alien was not in two places but was constantly changeing position.it was in fact the most difficult part and most iritating part becouse that difficulty spike
Resident Evil 7 is the most fun I've had with the series since the second game. When I see the hard core fans moan that's it's just like Outlast, It makes me laugh. Apart from the fp perspective, it's not. That's like saying DooM is the same as CoD.
Arrow Valley also these hardcore fans ignore the fact that Outlast didn't have a gun all you had was a video camera while in Resident Evil 7 you have a gun. the gun doesn't do a good job but at least it'll keep you alive.
"Not as fun as I had as a kid" is hardly an argument anyway. You can't compare through nostalgia and adult cynicism. We are a different audience now. What we experienced with classic games back in the day, will never be matched or outdone.
It baffles my mind that just because it's a 1st person horror game people thought it was in anyway like Outlast. It's literally old school survival horror with a modern twist and a change of perspective. As opposed to Outlast and other similar games where it's all about stealth and feel almost like walking simulators with a little more gameplay.
I pissed my pants during the 1st "mansion". Jack was terrifying. Maggy wasn't quite as terrifying, but significantly more horrifying/disturbing/grotesque. I was impressed at how different they made each Baker and how they mixed up the kind of "horror".
The Marguerite section of the game is the scariest for me. Jack chasing me didn't bother me one bit. Marguerite on the other hand had me scared shitless looking for her and scared shitless of her bugs(to be fair anything flying in my face in video games freaks me out big time) however while Jack's fights were more fun and entertaining, Marguerite's boss battle was terrifying for me.
Resident Evil 7 reinvigorated my interest in the RE franchise. It's seriously my favorite RE game since 4. I can't wait to see where they go with the series.
I love your analysis! It makes so much sense that Ethan's progression mirrors our own. I remember being terrified when I first started playing it and going through that first act, but towards the end, I felt like a tank! This game rescued the RE franchise. I don't think the RE2 Remake would have been what it was without the success of this game. They made zombies scary again!
But I think we can agree that the scariest jumscare in the game is when your going your way to the stairs leading to the attic and mia comes out of nowere
That Video Games Show I got this game at Best Buy for $60 I love it I go into every game I play with an open mind and respect that single game as it's own thing I love her resident evil remake I love resident Evil 7.
A prime example of quality over quantity, RE6 had 4 story campains with 7 playable main characters & separate game modes for extra play time, it had a good 30+ hours of gameplay. It was still shit. RE7 had around 10 hours of gameplay in the core game (6ish hours 1st run through & 4 more for unlocks) & it was fantastic.
one thing u left is that we could feel the heavyness of each weapon, which most of the fps games doesn't do it feels different to hold a pistol a shotgun and finally u could feel bossy when they give u a machine gun
the kid's room part in the old house also is the part that show you what is the true horror in this game, it is one of the creepiest and scariest session of the game and swift the tone of the game after you feel your character slightly grow and empower. I really love the swift of tone in this game and I only after watching this video realise those feeling are carefully designed and engineered by the developer, re7 is really a brilliant game like the title said
I just wanted to express my deep gratitude and appreciation for your work! Personally I'm not really interested in Horror in any kind of media, but I'm in love with the way you manage to break down different aspects of character, world and mood building, as well as the way things like references, expectations and mythology are packed into every aspect of the medium. I feel like I have really learned a lot from you for my own amateur stories! Your videos are excellent in editing, script voicing (super sexy) and all that! Can't any money at the moment but keep it up and you will probably see me popping up on patreon once I get a job. (edit) Forgot to mention: I especially like your breakdowns of folklore for the insights it provides on society and history. Very inspirational.
28:55 You did, I was scared shitless that Jack would regen and appear out of nowhere 33:40 And I was also super terrified and stressed during that boss fight, but beating it made me feel great, and the fear perfectly in line with Ethan’s line to her death.
I absolutely love how this one was a whole new story! I never got into the old lore (and I hated the camera angles) I didn't need to know shit to enjoy it! I feel like that brought a new generation into actual good horror and that still makes me happy
49:53 Best part of the game for me was the replay-ability, whether its trying to get all the achievements or wanting to use the extra items like the circular saw or xray glasses you got on your last playthrough, theres always a reason for me to want to play it again. I love the look of the game, the colors, the characters, the environment, even the molded where a cool part. It might just be me overthinking it, but seeing Mia when in the old house was actually nice and makes sense on how she would have escaped twice, one from wherever she was before Margurite got to her, and the second time from wherever she was before Lucas took her away. Makes me sad we didn't get a DLC playing as her sneaking through the house up until she talks to Ethan.
Wow. I just realized this video is from February of 2017, it's amazing you were able to develop such a mature perspective of the game in less than a month. I hope that you play the top tier dlc some time soon. Because there is still a lot more masterpiece material here...
I really liked RE7...up to the part when your lifeboat sinks. Then the ship section is such a pace/mood killer. It works for exposition but if I ever replay it, I won't be looking forward to doing that section. Shame cause the game up to Jack's last fight just kept getting better and better. The ending mine section is fine at least.
Enjoyed this video an awful lot cause it puts the finger precisely on everything I liked about RE7 but couldn't quite put my own finger on. I also enjoy your voice a lot, good job!
@@tcrpgfan In RE2 she was just a 19 year old uni student. Not a lot of time to get a lot of military background there, maybe between exams and all that, but yea LOL
first of all claire was trained by her brother in combat, a STARS agent. secondly she is literally easier to play than the rookie cop, gets better weapons lol, so she's clearly better than a rookie cop. leon is closer to ethan than claire is in all honestly.
Good video, but you claimed that PT developers were involved in RE7's development. I remember this being disproven a while ago back when the game was first announced. Did you find matching names in the credits?
Names & referenced work or it's bullshit, you can't just say "confirmed" & have that as some sort of magic spell to validate a statement. There are only 11 people on earth confirmed. see, bullshit is still bullshit until real evidence is shown.
GhenryPerez just a bunch of 12year olds playing pt and outlast, then saw RE7. BS beyond belief. RE7 was in dev when outcast and pt where'nt even known among gamers.
Why do people say Ethan's search for Mia is the same as the story from Silent Hill 2. Ethan didn't kill Mia and isn't being haunted for killing her. People act like SH2 is the first time a character in a story was looking for a lost loved one. Then again, half these people think RE7 is the same as Outlast or P.T. because of the first person perspective.
SH2 is in its own playing field compared to RE. They each have their own formula of horror and when they stick to it they are really good at it. SH is more psychological survival horror and RE is more of a stress-inducing-in-your-face survival horror. But once RE started going the action route of gameplay it started to lose what made it so unique. That's why the remakes and the newer games are trying to recapture that. P.S. SH2's story shouldn't even be compared to RE7; that twist was legendary and will still be one of the best horror stories of all time.
36:29 *Is this your first Resident Evil game, or something? This is in pretty much every Resident Evil game ever at this point. Pretty sure Dead Space got it from Resident Evil, not the other way around.*
It is nice for someone else to understand ethan is a stand in for the player, for years I did not understand people complaining about his story and character development. I was to busy trying to save my wife to care about that lol.
The game gets better the second time, for the ones that felt it was too "Outlastish". Sadly, the Mia segment always puts me off. It's boring and comes just when you're into the most climatic part...to slow things down and put off the excitement. Also, totally breaks the character progression satisfaction you were having just before that.
This game is an 8 to an 8.5 out of 10 game. Not just a solid game in it's own right but a great Resident Evil game. In my opinion it is the best RE game since RE4. I have to admit i did judge it early on but as i played it more i saw that it did indeed have more depth that i assumed. If i did have to point out any flaws i would say that perhaps they may of borrowed a few concepts here or there and at times things may feel a little predictable but i have been playing Resident Evil since 1996 and i own every game (Yes even Gaiden lol) and Resident Evil 7 is a fresh yet familiar edition to the Resident Evil universe. Great video as usual Ragnar.
I just finished playing this a couple of days ago and I agree with you on several points, the claustrophia of the environment, the mystery ( of which Zoey's phone calls contributed to) the helplessness of running from Jack with no weapons, it definetly had that horror movie vibe, where the main protagonist starts out helpless and afraid, then starts getting angry and comes at the enemy with an almost lack of self preservation and wanting him/her/it off of their back. The exceptions to this game and your commentary on here is, While not as scary as Jack to me, Marquarette could be unsettling, plus, I think her insect based powers were good, in that fighting her was a different experience than Jack. If she was similar to him, in attack and form, than it would have felt like a clone battle. I felt Jack's last fight was a bit of a past Resdient Evil pandering. I think after your chainsaw, "cage" match, that he should have stayed down, as I felt at that point in the game, you deserved that victory, so for him to come back later, felt like a Resident Evil cliche. Especially as a being with eyeballs popping all over his body, which has been done in past RE games more than once. I was actually more shocked at the end, to see Chris Redfields new employer. (The free, Not a hero DLC explained that to me later) I look forward to playing RE 8 soon.
89saur people were very disappointed with Resident Evil 6 so Capcom really want to redeem themselves to the people who bought the first three games like me. Capcom ignored the people who bought the first three games when they released five and six to the disappointment of survival horror fans everywhere. I like resident evil 4 still because that game was still scary as well and had great atmosphere in someway Leon s Kennedy still felt underpowered against these foes in that game. Resident Evil 5 ruined it for me because it had Co-op survival horror is best experienced alone and that was ruined by Resident Evil 5. I never will play Resident Evil 6.
Resident Evil 7 is brilliant because the franchise goes back to being what it originally was, Survival Horror. I like the action oriented focus of the later games too but this is a masterpiece in its intended genre.
@@whiteknight5100 There is no strong horror in this game. I am not scared by the characters because I think they are weak characters and not scary at all. In this game the only enemies are the bosses and the bosses are not scary and the boss fights themselves are rubbish in terms of game play. The dad walks around looking for you and you awkwardly hide behind a door as if you are exploiting a glitch. This is not scary, it's rubbish. Then after poorly designed boss fight, the mum takes over and you repeat the exact same type of thing. If you think that is a masterpiece of gaming design I feel bad for you.
Still in the works. The annotation says "Coming soon." But I guess that doesn't show on mobile. Link follows as soon as the video's out. (Also in the video's description)
I always thought the no combat in Outlast weaken the scare factor because you know no matter what you have one method of survival, run an hide. With a chance of fighting back, it makes the player options and options in a tense situation is nerve racking.
Ethan's growth as a person and skillset is also reflected in the game's objectives, while the entire game tells you the simple stuff, getting a lantern whilst the steps being hectic and hard, nearing the end, the objectives become straightforward, yet, ultimately, what gave me that pump of adrenaline
Although the graphics take a hit, this game on the PSVR is the scariest thing I've played. It's hard to even play it without the VR now that I've experienced it!
edgy beyblade The main names behind the p.t. were two people praised by horror fans and gamers. We can say that it is well marketed. Del Toro is a good symbolist, Kojima is a good detailer. But it doesn't make the game unique of course. Or it won't make the RE7 a "copied" game.
Just finished it today, played it all in one sitting. One if the best games I've played in a long time. I knew it was going to be great when I got my leg cut off by a shovel, got teased by Jack with a strong medicine and then re-attached said severed leg before escaping.
I think it would be interesting to see a game based around a disempowerment driven story. Say, you begin as a member of an overpowered military squad, killing monsters like it's nothing, even making fun of it. It starts like an action game. But then, subtle clues begin to creep in, suggesting that the situation will not be as simple as it seems. Your ammo starts running low, the soldiers experience more and more problems communicating with the outside world, and are also forced to engage in hand to hand combat against more powerful foes. As most of them have died off close to the end of the game, the player is basically forced to sneak around "outlast style", with no armour or firearms. I wonder if this action to horror structure could work, as it kind of does the opposite of resident evil.
Thanks for the spoiler warning. I'm stopping watching the video, because you've already sold me on it and I don't want to ruin it for myself. Rest assured I will be back to watch this after I eventually play it as I love your videos.
Excellent analysis!!! I loved this game through and through. Really felt like a back to the roots RE game, but your analysis really elevates it. Especially about the character progression to a super-hero. Really makes one think again about everything.
Don Makaveli at the beginning of Resident Evil 7 you start out as a weak character but by the end of it you become a hero and I was completely unaware that Ethan actually worked for Umbrella Corporation along with Mia.
So I got game pass and RE7 was on there. I did play it back when it came out. But I didn’t play that long. I wasn’t feeling it and was uninterested. 4 years later and after replaying it I can’t believe I didn’t finish it earlier. I actually loved it. It really did bring back RE and jack and Marguerite were just iconic.
Just picked up RE8 over the weekend and went back to 7 as a refresher course, I've been sucked into it since then. I never push myself to 100% a game, but I am head over heals for it. It makes me want to experience this story over and over, and do a little more everytime. Like playing on higher difficulties, or finding all the collectibles, and running the game in 4 hours, not for the trophy, but just to see if I can. I'm almost afraid of the expectations it has set for 8.
Def my favorite game thus far. Really hope they make the next addition to the series with the same creative passion...also, I picked Zoe lol, something about Mia made me disconnect & sympathize more with Zoe, but I really, really hate what happens if you choose her...If I have any criticism of the the game, its how her character development potential is just wasted - instead using her as an emotional punching-bag. Still I defend my choice in picking Zoe, The Daughters DLC affirmed that position even more tbh...if you pay attention to details in the documents found and think about it...ya might just see Mia in a different light.
Alright... let's talk about this game. Positives: 1. I enjoyed how hard it was to aim. This game shows no mercy. If you miss by a millimeter you will miss. The skill gap was fun to get used to. 2. The way the story was driven was interesting... up until a certain point. 3. The claustrophobic atmosphere made the house really scary ( at first ) Negatives: 1. The story has a plethora of plot holes. For example, how could evaline still turn Zoe to stone, and still "infect" Mia with hallucinations on the ship, when you give them the serum respectively? Why did she not immediately take control of Zoe in the DLC that shows when evaline first gets there? When she took control of the rest of the family almost immediately? The plot holes are some would say a trademark in resident evil games, but since this game attempted to pry away from that, the story should have been a tight narrative, not a sloppy article. 3. Atmosphere felt VERY forced maybe 3 hours into the game. The slow movement, and small areas simply became agitating after awhile. After you figure out all encounters are scripted, the experience becomes really predictable. 4. The unvaried enemies. Besides the main bosses, you only fight the molded in different forms. This becomes very repetitive, and it's not challenging whatsoever once you've experienced the 4 variants. 5. Evaline was a really disappointing boss battle. It was just a shoot em up. Interactive cinematics and not much else. They had the opportunity to make Ethan go through a traumatic psychological experience, which could have shown Ethan and Mia's home life before hand. These are the main reasons I can think of at the moment. If you've read this far tell me what you think, and if you agree with my list or not.
xXSilverSparrow32Xx I agree with a few of your points Molded- I liked the molded they were scary but easy but that is fixed in madhouse.but all in all I liked the molded and didn’t mind them being the only enemy types. The baker estate- was great and disappointing at the same time. I loved the atmosphere and finding keys and figuring out what to do but I was disappointed on how small the house was. - after the ship was so RE5/6 and that sucks I didn’t like it at all.
I remember playing this. It was about 10 pm and it finally downloaded on my ps4. I opened it and I was instantly in love with it. I went on a 14 hour marathon and finished the whole thing. When it was all over I still wanted more.

I don't quite agree that Marguerite is just "annoying." This may be an unpopular opinion, but she scared me the most. Her voice acting and movements were way scarier than Jack's. And her final boss form was probably the most disturbing.

I thought she was annoying. The section in the old house was the most forgettable for me.
I found Lucas more annoying lol.
Their all annoying but I think that’s the point because they all act crazy.
u mean her final form is sexy right ? YES.
Just a nitpick, but I find it strange that a lot of people keep referring to Mia as Ethan's girlfriend when the game explicitly states at the beginning and in other sections of the game that they're married.
Ngl I completely either didn’t see or forgot about that. It’s right at the beginning of the game, so I think it’s pretty easy to miss.
I was confused too and I thought that the cause of this was because the lack of wedding rings, since the rings are shown in re8 but then again, it could've been lost/removed. The former for Mia and the latter for Ethan.
I never even knew they were married in 7, I thought they had gotten married in 8 after all the events
@@grumpysphinx4911 it was the ring, wasn't it.

My favorite moment was when Jack sat with Ethan and explained everything. It made me feel rly strange and I loved it.
Sorry to necro, but i literally just played this section. Im replaying it before i start up Village. I had completely forgotten this section of the game existed. Its amazing how much depth it adds to Jack. I love when videogames make villians and monsters actually human beings.
It broke my heart that the baker family that once was a normal loving family was ruined forever that scene was gut wrenching
Marguerite scared the hell out of me. All the other characters made me nervous, but I found her disturbing. Her appearance, the creepy voice and the ultimate form...
This is what peak human performance looks like
Jack scared me because of the reasons stated in this video. Marguerite scared me because she looked creepy and I’m afraid of bugs. They’re scary for very different reasons.
The Marguerite boss fight was the only part of the game in Which I actually screamed
That dinner scene reminds me of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Yikes.
It's actually a direct reference to the dinner scene at the end of the original TCM. :)
Uncanny similarity if not. Also the Shears remind me of Clock Tower.
Dr Strangelove Yeah it's really cool
Its deliberate but that is the only similarity, the dinner scen, its a splice of Texas Chainsaw, Evil Dead, actually alot of Evil Dead in there and Silent Hill 1, I actually think its a homage and not trying to rop SH off and off course there is plenty of Resident Evil 1 in there too which paid homage to The Night of the living Dead movies and a load of B movies. Resident Evil is the American Horror Story of video games but now its scarier than both that tv show are earlier RE titles.
That chainsaw gag was pretty great!
When I first played it, I almost expected you were going to have to play the whole game with a 1 arm limitation.
Dave Killebrew hey you pp?

Or the tragedy (what if the reason the Bakers could sew you back together was that you were contaminated by the"gift"?)
But the choice to go for a fun ride experience worked perfectly for me nonetheless.
I feel the exact same way.
I still like it more than the remakes of 2 and 3
It makes more sense when you approach it from the perspective of it being partially inspired by the evil dead 2, rather than the standard undead affair.
REmake is fun though. Fun horror for sure
You didn't mention that you could pick up your hand after it gets cut off
That came in handy.

CollDork I like Clancy more than Ethan
Burning Loki too bad Clancy had to be burned alive with the birthday cake.
CollDork FOR REAL. I loved Ethan because of his one liners.
I agree, much better than a silent protagonist or a boring character.
Ethan isn't boring. He's fucking hilarious.

Averruncus Too bad he...uh...you know what.
That beginning part with Ethan driving legit looks real. This was an excellent game. A masterpiece that brought survival horror back in all its glory.
Fair but for a good bunch of people, the players never really think about that
He never ate the food
@@zerot480 he was infected prior to the attempt to consume the food, hence why the hand was able to be stapled on
It’s stated that the first aid meds are supposed to regenerate cells, so he wouldn’t need to be infected to regenerate cells.
Robo Chris is not a god, he is a CHRIIIIIISSSSSSSSS!
It’s because most people who played the game are nowhere near that buff
@@SianaGearz I totally agree with you, and I think that this chapter is a breath of fresh air for the franchise

We lose that uncertainty making us hesitant at the same time as Mia remembers everything, so our mindset can fully focus on "time to kick the ass of anything that stands in my way" just as she becomes capable of providing that
It's flipping genius!!

Of course, it is after all (in the title screen voice) *RESIDENT EVIL*.
You're saying you actually had more fun with this than resi 3 and 4?
"Not as fun as I had as a kid" is hardly an argument anyway. You can't compare through nostalgia and adult cynicism. We are a different audience now. What we experienced with classic games back in the day, will never be matched or outdone.
Its like saying jerking with the left hand is the same as the right. Some people just don't get it.
That Limp Bizkit cut got me good.

Enjoyed this video an awful lot cause it puts the finger precisely on everything I liked about RE7 but couldn't quite put my own finger on. I also enjoy your voice a lot, good job!
The scene at 15:30 hits a bit different after playing through Village...
"we finally get to play as someone who isn't a highly trained police or military specialist"
>Claire Redfield
Yes. Finally...
Still counts. Because of her brother. And her work with TerraSave.
@@tcrpgfan In RE2 she was just a 19 year old uni student. Not a lot of time to get a lot of military background there, maybe between exams and all that, but yea LOL
SakuraRedfield1996 she still played like a stars member though
first of all claire was trained by her brother in combat, a STARS agent. secondly she is literally easier to play than the rookie cop, gets better weapons lol, so she's clearly better than a rookie cop.
leon is closer to ethan than claire is in all honestly.
the grenade launch is better than the shotgun and matilda combined.
she also gets the spark shot, which is OP as fuck.

An hour long video...... Thank you so much for this Valentine's Day gift.
Ahah, you're welcome. Happy single-ostracism-day! ^^
That Fred Durst Jump Cut literally scared the crap out of me.
My God the memories of 2018 listening to the save theme. Crazy stuff.
Good video, but you claimed that PT developers were involved in RE7's development. I remember this being disproven a while ago back when the game was first announced. Did you find matching names in the credits?
GhenryPerez still no response... I guess it was bullshit.
it wasn't bullshit some PT artists and designers did work on the game the Director of this game confirmed
Names & referenced work or it's bullshit, you can't just say "confirmed" & have that as some sort of magic spell to validate a statement.
There are only 11 people on earth confirmed.
see, bullshit is still bullshit until real evidence is shown.
Fuzzy Duo kojima worked on RE7 confirmed !
GhenryPerez just a bunch of 12year olds playing pt and outlast, then saw RE7. BS beyond belief. RE7 was in dev when outcast and pt where'nt even known among gamers.
The Limp Bizkit thing made me giggle every. Single. Time. *smh* Amazing breakdown of the game. You do great work.
19:13 Holy crap the camera is shaking aggressively here.
*I'm SHOOK'TH*
Man I really ought to bite the bullet and get into playing the classics already. You make em sound so dope
You should, they're very good games.
“Abusive jack and the claustrophobic hallways” worst band name ever
The cheesy movie references really brought a new life to this video

*Is this your first Resident Evil game, or something? This is in pretty much every Resident Evil game ever at this point. Pretty sure Dead Space got it from Resident Evil, not the other way around.*
It is nice for someone else to understand ethan is a stand in for the player, for years I did not understand people complaining about his story and character development. I was to busy trying to save my wife to care about that lol.
Limp Bizkit popping out with the "WHAT" killed me. Lol, great video, man!
MA GET THE LUBE RAGNAR MADE ANOTHER VIDEO
Thanks for taking the effort to do this video. Awesome deep dive into this game. One of my favourites too!
I just finished playing this a couple of days ago and I agree with you on several points, the claustrophia of the environment, the mystery ( of which Zoey's phone calls contributed to) the helplessness of running from Jack with no weapons,
it definetly had that horror movie vibe, where the main protagonist starts out helpless and afraid, then starts getting angry and comes at the enemy with an almost lack of self preservation and wanting him/her/it off of their back.
The exceptions to this game and your commentary on here is,
While not as scary as Jack to me, Marquarette could be unsettling, plus, I think her insect based powers were good, in that fighting her was a different experience than Jack. If she was similar to him, in attack and form, than it would have felt like a clone battle.
I felt Jack's last fight was a bit of a past Resdient Evil pandering.
I think after your chainsaw, "cage" match, that he should have stayed down, as I felt at that point in the game, you deserved that victory,
so for him to come back later, felt like a Resident Evil cliche. Especially as a being with eyeballs popping all over his body, which has been done in past RE games more than once.
I was actually more shocked at the end, to see Chris Redfields new employer. (The free, Not a hero DLC explained that to me later)
I look forward to playing RE 8 soon.
what a game. im a long time gamer, but this game is something special. Well done CAPCOM WELL DONE!
RE7 is absolutely nothing like RE1,2,3 and CV and RE1,2,3 and CV are what RE originally was.
@@grimnirreaper6087 The connection is the strong horror aspect. Certainly you knew that, right?

Thank you! Ended up watching a bunch of their videos while looking for this one :D
It's hard to even play it without the VR now that I've experienced it!
people who claim RE7 is like outlast are completely wrong and should just shut up
^
literally the only similarities of these 2 games are:
- they are horror
- they are first person
Dr Strangelove oh shit ur right lets call RE7 a copy of P.T and Outlast
At least they're not as bad as the people that say Nioh is a Dark Souls clone. :/
edgy beyblade The main names behind the p.t. were two people praised by horror fans and gamers. We can say that it is well marketed. Del Toro is a good symbolist, Kojima is a good detailer. But it doesn't make the game unique of course. Or it won't make the RE7 a "copied" game.
Abusive Jack and the Claustrophobic Hallways sounds like a book i may or may not really enjoy reading lol

I'm almost afraid of the expectations it has set for 8.
very good analysis
Positives:
1. I enjoyed how hard it was to aim. This game shows no mercy. If you miss by a millimeter you will miss. The skill gap was fun to get used to.
2. The way the story was driven was interesting... up until a certain point.
3. The claustrophobic atmosphere made the house really scary ( at first )
Negatives:
If you've read this far tell me what you think, and if you agree with my list or not.
xXSilverSparrow32Xx I agree with a few of your points
Molded- I liked the molded they were scary but easy but that is fixed in madhouse.but all in all I liked the molded and didn’t mind them being the only enemy types.
