In this video we shoot and discuss the H&K Mark 23. This is a highly accurate handgun, much more accurate than we can show in this video however it is not very commonplace here in the US save for use in Hollywood. While not terribly practical, we enjoyed taking the Mark 23 out to the range to have some fun and show it off a bit. Stay tuned, much more on the way.

shiningmyduggy FUCK YES
cheezyweezz I think that's an advanced course SEALs do after BUDS isn't it? Eric nailed it!
That squeaky duck should be named Kenny, and killed often.
As I understand, this weapon saw a lot of use during the Shadow Moses incident.
Ah, yes. Only men of culture know about that incident.
@yajo891 It's called the SOCOM in MGS1
This gun saved a lot of lives on that day.

Damn I miss the box in the background.
You're pretty good.
The mark 23 was built to be able to take accurate head shots at upwards of 100 meters with the LAM module. It had to be able to run and run and run. 12+1 rounds of 45 ACP in something 35% more accurate more than makes up for 3 less rounds. HK mark 23 would be my go to war option if I could only have 1 pistol.

Actually no joke it’s awesome watching a forgotten weapons video and learning about a gun for 40 minutes, and then watch y’all shoot it a bunch. It’s like an SOP at this point to find y’all shooting whatever gun he talks about lol
I never went to the operation with this gun. I found this gun myself during the operation...
And you found it again when you went back to Shadow Moses 9 years later
In the back of a truck?
Wasn’t there a desert eagle with it?

“Harasho...good! You found a SOCOM. That's a Special Operations Command pistol. It's a .45 caliber pistol with plenty of stopping power. It's also equipped with a LAM (Laser Aiming Module) for nighttime combat. If you find a SOCOM suppressor, you can equip that, too. That pistol was designed specifically for use by special forces, so I think it will be useful. Some people find it a little heavy and hard to use, but it shouldn't be a problem for you.”
Stopping power? It’s a pistol, not a rifle.

One of my favorite pistols of all time. Godspeed Solid Snake!
the crown jewel of my fantasy sidearm collection!!! kudos!!
H&K Mk23, because my secondary IS my primary.
SNAKE
Three things in life are certain: death, taxes and shooting soda bottles will never get old
Not all HK products are ridiculously priced. I got my USP 40 for under $800 NIB and you can get a P2000 or P30SK for under $600.
+Imperator Phil You get what you pay for if you want a high quality weapon it cost ,less expensive weapons are generally less expensive for a reason , either they're mass produced or the quality control isn't as good as the higher end manufacturers. The FNX45 & USP45 is actually a better comparison and even though the USP is a very old design it's at least as good if not better. The Mark 23 is practically a one off in the # that H&K produces them .They where designed for a specific military contract with specific terms, conditions and parameters.
It kinda depends on what you want it for . No a civilian buyer isn't likely to be buying it for it's original intended purpose . But on the other hand an H&K collector may be buying it just because of that purpose and because it's a great gun that has very low production #'s so you know it'll hold it's value. If I wanted an H&K to carry around I'd carry one of the ones I own , the P30SK or P2000SK and if I need a duty weapon I'd carry my Sig 226 or my P2022 TB . But since I've been out of the service for 20yrs my tours of duty are long since over unless the Zombies come LOL.
No problem hey some of the companies that make higher end guns with very low #'s are great investments . Guns hold there value much better than most stocks are much less likely to tank on you and become worth less than you paid for them. If your careful you can and should use them . I think there even better than collector cars but that's my opinion it's probably about the same.
RIP MGS1!
Your MK23 videos were the best.
MGS2 is the way to go. They upgrade to the USP
I thought i was the only one having MGS1 in mind, watching this. Those were good days back then, on my PS one.
Only Snake gets the USP and he stole it off of Olga. Raiden gets stuck with the old SOCOM.
Merrrryyyyllll
Expensive yes but look what people are paying for a custom Glock or S&W. Little slide and frame work and boom 2k. Also add somebody else's name to the slide for a extra cost.
It's so big because it was designed to be a primary weapon not a secondary weapon.
Check out Chris bartocci's video on it its the most informative video there is on the gun.
Very informative video indeed. The only Crew served handgun in the US inventory. LOL
You could say that about any gun he does a video on.
looks like a great time!
You could lube it up with your tears. from the price.
Man if only H&K stuff didn't cost an arm and a leg.
Also, isn't .45 naturally subsonic? Why does there need to be subsonic ammo for an already subsonic round?
The Badass Bassist I think that with the long enough barrel, the speed of the bullet can reach higher than the box label say
My guess is because it has a longer barrel than most other .45 pistols .. i mean it is a pistol designed for the use as a ''primary '' weapon
The Badass Bassist Yep 45 is naturally subsonic, but hush gets even quieter using faster powders and mild loads.
Most subcompact inexpensive cars are naturally slow, doesn't mean you can't call them slow cars. A slow car is a slow car doesn't matter it's inherently slow or not.
The barrel isn't even 6". How is that absolutely huge? I know guys with 6" competition 1911a1s that are bigger than the MK 23 sans suppressor.
This pistol is so legendary. It really is the do all be all pistol! People really over blow it’s size so far out of proportion, everyone exaggerates how big it is. It is exactly 20% larger than a Glock 17. It’s shorter than a 6” revolver that almost every cowboy carried back in the day. But, for some reason the Mark 23 is labeled as unwieldy and just too large. When really, It’s not too large at all.. it is accurate, effective, with all of its reliably extremeness.
Lol you guys should have done the Navy Seal thing I think it would have came out really good from what I saw on that little clip
"Tears of the Sun" Bruce Willis

+D B Sicario was a USP .45.
Kyle Hammer
doubke check that. in the database it states Mark 23 HK
if you watch the last scene where Del Toro's character executes the boss' family , that usp is too big to be a standard usp. even the USP tactical. look at the trigger guard size.
"Just like old times."
“Kept you waiting huh”
But efficient...
Haven't seen this brought up. Initial purpose was for assassination, to put it bluntly. That's why it's in 45 acp. 45acp is naturally subsonic and hard hitting. Early models had a slide lock to eliminate slide noise
Nah, don't try to turn it into a carbine, that's what H&K UMP is for man.
Plastikdoom A Navy SEALs arms ARE stocks .
Lol, maybe flippers? I mean they are seals...but was just replying to Eric, if you want a .45 carbine, get a UMP, or go for a Vector and leave a perfectly good and superb pistol alone.
Plastikdoom Vectors have problems, UMPs are unavailable in the market.
They are now. I would buy one if it was full auto but I don't see the point since it's semi auto. A 16" barrel doesn't make a .45 much better contrary to popular belief so it's really just a glorified pistol that you can't conceal. I'd rather have the Mark 23...
solid snakes blaster
Why are people complaining that the gun is too big and pricey 😂 the gun was made for operators that wear gloves and the controls need to be easily accessible. Wasn't made for the public. That's why they made the VP9 aka the people's pistols.
VP9 is a toy by comparison, striker-fired, not duty or service grade etc. The more streamline version, and direct descendant, of the mk23 would be a USP, or more recently the HK45T.
@@TheSwoopDog HK should have never made the damn VPglock or their line of ARs and then maybe people who shoot a lot of pistol could find these things more easily. I have a Mark 23 with the KAC suppressor and most of the USPs in 45 but trying to find one quickly for customers is usually a months long affair.
Exactly. Poseurs need not apply💥✌️.
only downside of this gun is the price lol
I think H&K puts out a couple of dozen USP45s for every Mark23.
So if you can live with a slightly shorter gun with slightly simpler controls, you can just grab that.
Get the "Tactical" version and you have a threaded barrel and raised sights for a supressor.
Eightieth Raptor I just did a quick check on Gallery of guns. The MSRP is $2300 but I can pick it up at my local gun dealer for $1976. No doubt it is pricey. GOG has two available for sale if anyone is interested. You might find it cheaper at other Internet sites.
Max S. Poor man's Mk23
Eightieth Raptor for real. The price of any HK really...
Eightieth Raptor price is worth it when you think about what you're getting for 2k
Didn't Rick from The Walking Dead run an HK23 with an osprey suppressor in the middle of season 5?
He sure did
Why didn't you use the ammo it was constructed for? 185grain +P
Ralf Hartung he wanted to make the pistol shoot as quiet as he could with subsonic ammunition instead of a louder +P ammo, and I believe +P ammo is a bit more expensive per round🤷🏻♂️+P I’d be able to get for around 25$-30$ n subsonic would be around 20$ from what I’ve seen.
@@ChanWoo410 i see your point. Both the financial aspect as well as the noise aspect. But the SOCOM uses the 185 grain +P only for this gun. So i think it would be more authentic to use that ammo.
Last time it was on Buds Gun Shop it was $1823. That's pretty steep, but not too steep for me. RIP paycheck.
We have a local gun store here in Dallas that has been trying to sell theirs for 3 years now with the original armalite silencer
Joel Alonso Which shop? I’m close to the DFW area. It might be worth a trip.
Wish they made this tank of a handgun in 10mm. That would be awesome.
EscpdFrmPsykward if only. It being an HK means that won't happen unless there is massive MO/LEO demand for it.
EscpdFrmPsykward You can do even better than 10mm and get the barrel rechambered to 460 Rowland.
@@SwornHeresy Who will be buying the ammo for me? I surely couldn't afford to shoot it very much
must admit i would totally buy both a 10mm and maybe even a 9mm conversion
Do your homework. This HK MK23 in .45 ACP has a 5.87” barrel! Just run
200 grain or 185 grain .45 ammo and you will have PLENTY of accuracy, plenty of stopping power and still super quiet with a suppressor. NO need for 10mm with damn near a 6 inch barrel and 185 grain 45 ammo, come on man.
I sold mine and have regretted every day of my life since..
Felt the same way about my 9mm usp. Years later I met a beautiful 45 usp and we've been together ever since
Very nice footage at 5:06. You can see the multistage buffer system at work:
1. Slide and barrel start to move, the guide rod stays in place (main recoil spring is compressed).
2. Barrel hits the guide rod at the inner cam and the rod moves back (the strong but small secondary spring is compressed now).
3. Secondary spring pushes the barrel and guide rod forward again.
4. Slide hits the guide rod at the bushing and the secondary spring gets compress one more time (so the rod moves back one more time)
5. Secondary spring makes the slide going forward (as the guide rod, too).
6. Main recoil spring makes the rest of barrel and slide going back into battery.
This is the special system used in all full size USP pistols. Other guns like Glock 17 or Sig P226 don’t have such system, they have a simple one stage recoil system (the guide rod stays in the same place all the time).
OK NOW! Heeheehee! thank you
I own this gun and videos never do it justice. its huge! videos never make it look as big as it is in person.
I absolutely love my Mark 23. You can definitely make a 1 hole group at 10 yards if you don't get in the way of the pistol. You're right Eric, if you miss, it's you! Very soft shooting too, due to the patented recoil reduction system. Chad, I believe you will change your mind, It'll grow on you. Although I don't have one yet, there is an extended magazine available through H&K parts as well as a Rail adapter that'll allow you to fit most Picatinny optics such as Surefires to it. Great review gentlemen!
Solid Snake would approve!
I loled at those arm floats.
I'm Naked Standard SEAL issue floats no less.
Actually you could (you obviously know lol) put a cool stock on there and a vertical grip after you form one it, you're actually IMHO better staying off the charts and getting a brace and a extra mag holder kinda like the RONI but sleeker and way cooler maybe using carbon fiber, would be a great idea, great video on a really nice platform , If they made extended mags👍👍📸🔫🇺🇸
Seal Team 8888! LMAO Great opening!
I've been eyeing one at my lgs for a few weeks. It's tagged at $1999. manager told me $1750 .
what do you think?
Don't know if you still want it, but they're still that price on Bud's Gun Shop xD
If you WANT IT BUY IT you only live once, and they can bury you with it lol
I hope you bought it!
You could get a usp
The incredible Larry Vickers , and Ken Hackathorn aided HK in the design elements. I believe (if memory serves) that they were the main "operator" consultants for HK for this gun and the HK416.
That is interesting. If hackathorn had a role I'm sold. The man is a genius as is Vickers.
Not in the Mk23, they helped develop the mk24, which was the HK45C tactical, a much smaller compact 45 with many of the same features scaled down and only 10+1 capacity with the tactical model magazines
When I first fell in love with guns back in the early 90s and was very ignorant, this was the first pistol I ever fell in love with.
Metal Gear Solid memories. 😄 "Snake? SNAAAAAAAAAAKKE!"
AWESOME iv88 doing a video about a gun I really want to know more about! I'm happy
The SOCOM contract called for a separate decocker and safety. The Mark 23 is a pistol designed by a bunch of guys behind a desk for someone else to use. I agree with one poster on HKpro who said that the USP is what the Mark 23 should have been. I only own a Mark 23 however. Because of everything it was put through in testing it is one of the most amazing pistol on the planet to me. I don't want a USP. The Mark is capable of far more than I will ever use it for and will do all I need a pistol to do except conceal.
Spencer Ivey there's nothing about the USP that I like more than the Mark 23 so I can't agree.
As a fellow Mk23 owner, how do some of you have such a hard time concealing it? I don't get it. It's easy. Sure smaller pistols are easier, but c'mon this ain't as bad as people make it.
I wanted one since I first played metal gear solid. when I got in to guns I cried cause I can never find one when I can afford. I never have the money when I find them cheaper.
About time. My favorite gun I own. Maritime finish is amazing
Jake H Yes, indeed.
Roger that Jake H!

Frank Pizza obvious troll is obvious
god doesn't exist, two cousin made you
You’d think a huge pistol with a big can on it would be sluggish and difficult to shoot with, guess not. Chad’s bewilderment at his own performance with it says it all.
Really the price isn't out of the question. People pay much more for "premium" 1911's and they don't hold a candle to the Mark 23. Some have marginally better accuracy but they are still jamomatics. The Mark 23 is the ultimate .45 semi-auto pistol. I can't imagine any other .45 surviving 30,000 + rounds of +P+ .45 ENTIRELY suppressed. The accuracy and reliability of this gun just isn't trumped.
roushspeedfreak1989 I bet a 4506 can take the abuse although it's not as accurate.
jeff jonila that's the thing, the Mark 23 is very accurate, reliable, and durable. I don't know of another gun that combines all three things as good that's cheaper.
MK23 and Custom 1911’s cannot be beat. My
favorite handguns for sure.
I mean, the US gun market is focused on lighter more tacti-cool concealable options.
When I saw Eric come out of the pool I thought he was about to reenact the mgs1 dock level
The Mark23 uses the same magazines as the USP 45. The only difference is the base plate. The reason the Mk23 is bigger in the hand is because the polymer is thicker then that of the USP.
Also, while big compared to modern pistols it still is way more ergonomic then a Desert Eagle, far more accurate, and reliable.
I want one in 460 Rolland :) with the original laser.
Bruce Willis's handgun (and other Navy Seals') in Tears Of The Sun, and Mike Ermentraut (Jonathan Banks) uses it in Breaking Bad.
I think the answer to a carbine-ized, higher capacity Mk23 already existed in H&K's subgun lineup.
you should shoot some 45 super thru it, that is what the gun was designed for. Also i think this pistol needs to go thru the MAC gauntlet, lol.
This is my NUMBER 1 Gun!!! I will own one somday...
Hopefully...
i've always wanted one... Id buy that before the agency arms guns
There's always that one guy in the comments section:
"If it as in 10mm that'd be so cool"
"If there was one in .357 mag that'd be so cool"
"If they made one in 50bmg..."
50bmg though....
SOCOM used "180grain plus P" ammo. The 180plusP maximized the velocity, and muzzle energy of a 45acp round. Great video!
185 gr +p
Hahaha.

Len M. I dont know the laws in your country. But even if our laws doesn't look that bad, the system is. You need to give a reason why you want to have a weapon. Also you have to shoot a certain amount of shots on the range to are allowed to have a gun. And the worst thing is, that everyone is afraid of people, having weapons. And the gouvernement will have a eye on you as soon you have a weapon.

the problem is that most people view weapons through their ability to carry concealed so they write this off. yet this is the most durable and reliable pistol ever made.
John Wick 3 should return to HK!
One year later and i guess they went with 2011's. That Mk23 would have been bad-ass tho. But i guess a Mk23 is too tactical for Taran Butler. No shade to him tho.
Weren't those not even available for civilian use at some point?
I've been wating a long time for this video.

Yes change your minds! Mark 23 master race
Damn you. Now I want one! H&K better pay you a royalty!
I love that "pool" stuff. Awesome done
What i really like about this gun is that it is a warriors weapon. It's not a self defense gun that you hope you'll never ever use. This is the gun that you would grab when you knew that you're gonna jump out of an airplane, land in the water, swim to a secret military base on an island and start a gunfight with a bunch of bad guys.
I live in England, was just wondering how i can support the channel since im unable to buy the man cans and things like that?
LilDaaan idk if they they do but if they have patreon u could support the channel that way. If not u can like, sun and share with ur friends.
We don't have a patreon, but you should be able to buy Mancans, we have people from the UK buy them all the time. If you get the basic or the man up, they don't have knives in them and everything else you should be able to have. When we put them together we think about our friends overseas and try not to put banned items in them. If you don't want to buy a Mancan you can go over to patriot patch ( the link is in the description.) and buy one of our patches, But all you have to do is watch our videos We greatly appreciate all the support we receive. Big chonky .45 that can take a steady diet of +P and supers. What is not to love? Definitely a bucket list gun when i can get up the $2k for it. Is it practical? Nah USP, HK45, and FNX45 will do what you need. Definitely will have one eventually.
