Thanks for the video. Why are they kept in dark space?
In nature, seeds do not germinate as well in light as in the dark. This is due to light decomposing the carbonic acid gas, expelling the oxygen, and fixing the carbon; as a result hardening all the parts of the seed, and preventing vegetation. However, once the seed sprouts, light is required, so the sprouts can undergo photosynthesis.
Please can you keep it for a while I mean in vinegar and olive oil ?
@@thegreenlinebeeco Yes!!
@@Foodtolive can they be fermented...as no fridge...xxx n
@@nancythomas-wardm.b.a2993 Hello Nancy, we did not try fermenting the sprouts. They taste best when fresh.
My idea for a gift box: Broccoli seeds, Fenugreek seeds, Radish seeds, Alfalfa sprouts, and clover sprouts!
What would your gift box be called? :)
I enjoyed the video and the special touch of your dog with the sprouts on his/her mouth at the end.
Thank you! The pooch loves his sprouts! ☺️🌱
I’m making sprouting jars as little presents, a jar, the strain lid, 2 tablespoons of the salad mix, a ribbon around the top and a little card with the basic instructions and a link to this video.
I’ll call the box “Santa’s magic box” with the salad mix, the spicy mix, the antioxidant mix, broccoli and arugula, because these are my favorites and they always turn out great.
WOW! What a unique idea for a gift, we love it!!! Thank you so much for sharing it Ann! Best of luck in the giveaway! :)
Where do you get the lids?
@@mariegarcia8007 Amazon has tons of different sprouting lids. Just bought a 4-pack of curved, 316 surgical steel lids. Bit costly but last a lifetime. They have the regular sizes for reg sized mason jars also.
Save the water to give to other plants. They love it.
Best sprouting video I've seen! I love Food To Live products, too. Thank you!

I love sprouts in Tuna Sandwiches!
Agreed!!!! Sprouts' peppery notes make it that much more fresher :)
"Merry and Happy Sprouting" was the name of my Gift Box.. I have been sprouting for many years. It's very easy and nice to see your seeds opening and growing. The most important about sprouting is to water enough, but not too much. Also, to keep your sprouts out of direct sunlight. It is better to keep them in a fresh area. I add them to my salads, sandwiches, smoothies, soups, and cooked grains as a decoration. It is a very smart way to take the maximum nutrition from greens and legumes without eating too much salads. And the most important, they are so cute that you will enjoy it very much!
Hello Rita! Thank you for sharing! What 5 ingredients would you include in your Merry and Happy Sprouting? :)

I'm very grateful to have learned this very important info. It's simple and requires very little time or equipment. Already keep all my dried fruits in 32oz mason jars which I eat in the morning also. For some reason my misperception before watching this was that it required soil. Sprouts from the store are so expensive so I can't wait to start eating them more often to get more glucoraphanin, a compound that is converted to sulforaphane during digestion.
Thank you for sharing Joseph! Soil is often used for growing microgreens , which is the next level :)
@@Foodtolive I tried sunflower sprouts for a period, but eventually gave up! So much more work than sprouting😂 You'd need to be a gardening person❣️
The best part of this video is the dog with sprouts on his lips! hahahaha! Great tips also :)

I would call my Holiday Gift Box "Warm Winter Wishes of Whiskers and Mittens" and it would include:
1. Cacao Paste (for Hot Chocolate Bombs)
2. Matcha Powder (for the Grinch's Popcorn Balls)
3. Black currant Powder (to mull with Orange and Spice)
4. Pecans ( to make Praline Cookies)
5. Xanthan Gum ( for Vegan Fruitcake and Nog)
Thank you for sharing Telenova! Xanthan Gum Nog sounds so intriguing!!! And what a creative Gift Box name!!! :)
@@Foodtolive I use a Chai concentrate to make Nog, that you can spike it for those feeling extra jolly or keep it clean for the kiddos.
Here's the recipe..
The Concentrate:
4 cups Water
2 Cinnamon sticks
1in piece Fresh Ginger, shaved
1 Tbsp Orange Zest, optional
1 tsp Cardamom Seed
5 Star Anise, whole
5 Allspice, whole
20 Cloves, whole
10 Black peppercorns, whole
1 tsp Nutmeg
2/3 cup Brown Sugar
2 Tbsp Vanilla Extract
~Bring the 1st 10 ingredients to a boil and simmer 10 mins, at this point I usually turn off the heat add the Sugar and the Vanilla, then I'll leave the mixture to steep while it cools for a couple hours before straining.
The Polish:
1 1/2 cups Bourbon
3 cups Plant Milk (I prefer either Oat Milk or Silk Protein Cashew Blend for creaminess)
1 tsp Xanthan Gum
A sprinkle of Ceylon Cinnamon to dust each mug
~ Just whisk the polish together and add equal parts to the concentrate; if you're making virgin Nog you can sub Coconut Cream for the Bourbon or just add more Milk of choice. Cheers!
best video ever!
Thank you for your wonderful feedback!!! :)
Clover, Hemp, Kale, Radish, Alfalfa - chkra sprouts (if I could have gone 6 ingredients - Clover, hemp, arugula, kale, radish, alfalfa - chakra sprouts!). Great video!

Rinse am and pm and keep in cool dark place until yellow leaves. No direct sunlight.
My cat loves broccoli sprout too. Gladly dont need soil, can't wait to start this and can i use this method for wheatgrass ?
Thank you for your question. You can use this method for wheatgrass, however wheatgrass grows better in an open sprouter, as the grass has much more room to grow straighter and taller. Hope this helps :)
Well done! What happens if I use tap water instead of filtered water?
Hey TJ! As far as germination, the rate will be the same, however don't forget that the seeds are soaking in the water, and tap water in some states contains pollutants. Thus, we generally recommend using filtered water. Hope this helps :)

This seem's like a great way TO SPROUT I will try it with a spelt grain ,hope it will work out this time, I try TO SPROUT before but it did not work. Thanks and good luck to me .
( Open Sesme ) Sesame Seeds - Broccli Seeds - Flax Seeds - Pumpking Seeds - Sunflower Seeds .
Thank you for sharing! When sprouting grains, the key to successful germination is good drainage! Let us know your results when you try it again! Thank you and good luck :)
I’m using a different sprout seed than you are and only about half of my jar has sprouts by the end of 6 days. I rinse and drain well and follow all your instructions. Thinking I’m going to have to switch brands of seeds. Thanks
So sorry to hear that. Perhaps the seeds are expired?
I spray with colloidal silver. Research says it keeps them growth free of bacteria and you can't use to much. The plant will only absorb what it needs. Also documented that nano silver increased yields.
Thank you so much for sharing Ashley!
Great video, is there an easier way, I’m a busy guy.
Glad you liked the video! Sprouting does take a bit of time, but it's worth it 🌱
Great video. Thanks. But did you know that the water filter you are using does not remove fluoride.
Good to know!!! Thank you for your comment.
Might be easier to use the jar lids to skim the seeds off the top of the water? Great vid btw!
The jar lids are made of two parts, the frame and the strain, so once you dip it into the water, it will disconnect and will make the whole process even more frustrating lol nevertheless, it doesn't hurt to try :)
Yes just the flat screen maybe
Same 5 items as organic deluxe nuts gift box, with the original jolly name of "Nuts!", in honor of General Anthony McAuliffe- Merry Christmas!
Simplicity is always a great idea! Best of Luck in the giveaway! :)
thank you for a great video, I'm a little confused b/c I watched several videos that recommend 2 full days in the dark and days 3-5 in a well lighted room. I did this with the previous sprouts and it worked great. I have noticed that this brand doesn't sprout as much with the same days in the dark, I will try 3 full days. I also did not soak that long at all. Guess we'll try.
Hi Marly, thanks for sharing. A couple of factors can effect the sprouting process. The temperature, the humidity, as well as air circulation in the area where the jars with seeds are placed. Many methods call for a short soaking time (4-6 hrs), however I found an overnight soak to produce a better germination rate. Yes, you do keep the seeds in the dark (inside a kitchen cabinet in our case) for 3 full days. Hope this helps.
@@Foodtolive thank you so much for the feedback..🙏🏼
I did the overnight soak this time and 3 days in the dark..I’m on the 5th day now and waiting to see the results. So far I don’t see that much of a difference. I used the same exact spot for the dark pantry phase with the first seeds I had mentioned before and they sprouted quicker and more full..
They are non-gmo but not organic..😞 which is why I ordered these.. I’ll wait and see.. thank you
@@marly1869 Both organic and conventional seeds should sprout great. Make sure the seeds are not expired.
@@Foodtolive thank you, they are not, think it was a bad batch. 🤷🏻♀️ I’m following all of the recommendations and always use filtered water. May try another one.
I've been looking into this, and will start sprouting soon. However, I'm concerned about water wastage. Is there a safe way to store and reuse the rinsing water? Thanks in advance, congrats for the great video.
Hello. Thank you for your comment. Of course, you can store rinse water in pitchers or large bottles and use it for indoor and outdoor plants. Hope this helps.
@@Foodtolive thank you, it does indeed help. Cheers.
Great Video!, I have well water.. So, is it okay to use bottled water for rinsing? Thank you
Hello Leah, and thank you! Yes, you can use bottled water if you don't have a filter, however do save the rinse water and use for your garden or indoor plans so it isn't wasted away :)
@@Foodtolive Thank you so much! I definitely won't let the rinse water go to waste! I have some indoor plants that will get it! :)
@@theleah007 Perfect! Let us know how your sprouting journey goes :)
@@Foodtolive I certainly will! The kit I ordered should be here soon! :)
Wooow great info xxxx n
Thank you so much!
Can the seeds filtered out at the end be used to grow the next batch of sprouts? Or do I need to purchase new seeds each time?
Unfortunately the seeds that did not germinate in the jar, will not germinate if you reuse them. For this sprouting method, you must use new seeds. Nevertheless, you can try and experiment sprouting in soil, perhaps it can be a success? If you do, let us know the germination rate. Hope this helps.
how would u recommend draining without the filter tops?
You can use a mesh cloth. Attach it around a jar with a rubberband

Hi i'm a newbie I bought Waltham 29 Broccoli Seeds for microgreen in soil but will it work for jar too ? or what is the best way soil? jar? or paper?
Waltham 29 Broccoli Seed variety is good for both - soil and jar. Both methods are good and simple, however some people prefer not to deal with soil and planting and choose the jar method, which is described in detail in this video. Judging by the reviews of our customers, the most popular way to sprout broccoli seeds is in the jar or a spouter, soil method is often used for arugula seeds. Hope this helps!
Is it okay to mix the alfalfa and the in the broccoli seed? I only have one jar and I'm making these for my birds
Yes, absolutely. In fact, in this video we sprout broccoli seeds separately and a seed mix (broccoli, alfalfa, and clover). However, please pay attention to your proportions. You are adding 1 tablespoon of seeds in total, so use half of tbsp of broccoli and half alfalfa. If you put more than directed, the seeds can rot, due to lack of space. Hope this helps :)
