      The phantom 3 standard, it's not too expensive, so not to much worries about crashing it! The camera quality is good enough for RUclips, so the best drone for me!

      @anyouknowit 7 лет назад +2

      I have a Phantom 4 :) DJI is leading the push in more main stream type drone tech is what i think... i was tempted to buy one of these sparks but i am re thinking now that i have watched your review. Thanks. i guess they created it to try to appeal to the world as it is now more self absorbed and media based hence the "selfie" novelty drone type feel i get from this one. and of course without riveling its own product so they made this one not only cheaper in price but also quality ( not parts quality but features such as Mavic 4k... spark 1080... Mavis 3 axis... Spark 2 axis )

    • @BjoernVetter
      @BjoernVetter 7 лет назад +5

      The Mavic, image quality for photos could be a bit better, but not having to lug around a big phantom an a nature hike and still be able take shots from a different angle with "my sky tripod" makes up for that, as it easily fits next to my camera in the backpack.

  • @ConnorEckdahl

    Who else loves Peter's videos, but feels like he didn't give the spark a full chance. He only flew the spark once (on one battery) Also, there is a dedicated controller for it that expands the range up to 2000m, and allows the spark to go into sport mode. No one was a master with the phantom 4 pro after flying it for 10-16 minutes. Anyway, hoping the next review has a bit more depth to it and time spent on it. Peace

    • @PeterMcKinnon
      @PeterMcKinnon  7 лет назад +69

      +Connor Eckdahl flew it more than once. And being around cameras as much as I am, you know pretty fast what you like and what you don't like.

    • @cfhryc
      @cfhryc 7 лет назад +12

      Agreed. You need the controller for it to be useable. Without it, it's just a struggle.

    • @ChrisLeiter
      @ChrisLeiter 7 лет назад +7

      It really is damn near unusable without the controller.. I can't get the gesture controls to work nearly as well as many of the earlier reviewers were able to... might be the beard? ;) lol
      Anyway, I've found that as long as I'm not near a wifi router, the connection to the controller is rock solid, and I'm going to pick up an OTG micro USB / USB A adapter so I can plug my phone directly into the controller and disable the wifi connection all together. I've heard that ups the reliability and the operational distance even more.

    read the manual!!! I just got mine a few days ago and have had none of the problems everyone else has been having because I actually took the time to learn how the software works and what gestures the camera is trying to pick up on. It's such an easy drone to fly!
    Just like how I've never had my phantom have a "fly away" because I've always flown it in proper conditions with strong GPS signal
    it pays to read the manual

    He didn't understand the limitations and specs in advance. Didn't use the controller. Didn't read the instructions. Didn't turn off 'Beginner Mode' or 'Enable Backwards Flight'. Only flew a single battery (13 minutes average) before submitting a final opinion. Really inaccurate and misleading video. The Spark is great -- if you take the time to understand how it works.

      Do you have other drone experience & would you buy the spark again? I do outdoor recreation videos including climbing, hiking, backpacking. As result I have been looking at the DJI spark due to it's small compact size which would allow it to fit inside of my hiking pack.

  • @Beempa

    LOL! This isn't made for people like YOU -- it's made for people like ME, to introduce us to the DJI Drone brand. It's really for beginners. Also, you're the first person I saw that only got the drone and not the remote package, so I am grateful for that because it appears the remote package is the way to go. The Mavic pro is twice the cost and there is a learning curve, so this is the best option for beginners. It's like buying a Canon 5d Mark IV for vlogging... not necessary when a T7i is good enough. Thanks for the funny review! :-)

    Usually love your videos and I've been watching since day one, but I feel that you were really hard on the drone. I'm currently saving up money to buy one and if I could buy a mavic I would, but I won't be able to save up that much. I would love to start film making because it really is a form of art and a way to express yourself and I'll have to settle for a spark. The spark lets me think of an iPhone camera, and people can really take amazing shots with an iPhone.I think the spark opens up new opportunities for filmmakers to challenge themselves and seeing what they can do with a spark.

    Going to have to agree with the other people in the comment section. Usually you give great advice on products, but you bought an entry level drone Why did you expect it to live up to the professional one? I don't understand why you spent a whole video complaining about it not living up to its more expensive counterparts, that was already a given.
    Instead, you should have spent more time actually researching all the features as you clearly didn't know much about the drone. You can unlock a feature in the settings that will allow the drone to fly backwards. Also, use the controller just like you do for the phantom. The range on the control is very long for the size of the drone, it is also easier to maneuver.
    Also 16 minutes is a lot of time considering the size. They knew people would want more flying time which is why they made the battery so portable and easily removable.
    This video is getting a thumbs down from me.

    For someone like me (thinking of getting a drone) and on a VERY limited budget this video is really helpful. There are definitely folks out there that like the spark and some that don't. Peter gave an honest opinion based on *his* needs. I don't count this as a negative. If everyone just sucked up to dji and said how perfect all their drones were lots of us beginners would buy the wrong one. Thanks as always for posting! Love your positive attitude in all your vides man!

    I feel bad.. This is the first video I've felt it needed to hit dislike! 🤔 It's just that you didn't give it a good review or use the proper equipment to fly it. And you were upset about the size when it's literally marketed as the smallest quality drone..... Idk it could have been a better review even If you hate it haha 😂

    I live in germany and I could easily afford a mavic (my brother has one even) or a phantom 4 but I went for the spark because of its size and it looking like a toy and not a professional survailance drone. In germany drone are basically banned from everywhere and this I can at least fly and hope nobody will report it because it looks like a toy. everybody is always talking about buy bigger its better but at the end it helps you shit if you are not allowed to fly it anywhere.

    • @MrBenjo3001
      @MrBenjo3001 7 лет назад +3

      It has actually something to do with having insurance and inforcing no fly zones etc.
      Also whats the bullshit with papers and Hitler? It`s not the Gestapo it`s the same as the FAA in the USA. Casey Neistat also got Problems with it because in the USA you aren`t allowed to fly your drone everywhere(in the city, over Emergency efforts. etc.) you want. Having papers for it is just an easy way to find out that this drone belongs to this person when it should crash or somehting else happens to it. It also determines what drone can fly over which terrain depending on the sice and weight.
      Also we are not one Nation(Europe is a Continent not a Country) and there are different laws in different countries so if you want to say that you have a Problem with the laws in my Country say the Laws in Austria are shit or suck or something else but don`t say stuff like "Would have thought you Euros would have learned when Hitler wanted everyone to show their papers. "
      If I wanted to insult The United States of America i would say so and I wouldn`t say America because America is a continent and I wouldn`t want to insult the Canadians and Mexicans too ;)

    Hey, Peter! Absolutely addicted to your channel - Honestly, you are the ONLY channel that I watch on youtube on a regular basis. The information you provide in such an entertaining way is truly top notch! Keep up the good work!
    I currently operate the DJI Inspire 1 PRO, Phantom 4 PRO and Mavic PRO for my aerial drone services business, V1DroneMedia, in Cleveland, Ohio. I am loving the Phantom 4 PRO, which I believe strikes a perfect balance between the portability of the Mavic and the quality of the Zenmuse X5 on the Inspire 1. The portability and features of the Mavic PRO (as of now) can't be beat - it's pretty awesome being able to throw the Mavic in your camera bag and have it with you wherever you go. The Inspire 1 is great if you really need the better camera quality, but it is a bit of a pain to lug around and it takes much longer to set up compared to the other two. You wouldn't have to worry about your ego though (like you do with the Spark) when flying the Inspire 1! LOL! ;)

    Good video. Not sure who the target audience is supposed to be. As for the Spark, it's not meant to be a professional photographer tool. it is an entry into UAV hobby. It is marketed more for people wanting to dabble and get a toe into the UAV pool. Your debate is not strong, you are a professional. I would expect you to use higher end equipment (so would your clientele). That being said the Spark is far more portable then most other drones. The price is another consideration. You Phantom 4 Pro is around $1400 for a package deal. So is the Mavic. The Spark is HALF that price in it's combo!!!!! Here is a great way of looking at it, you as a professional would shoot on a Canon 7D or better. The average person doesn't need that for their camera. They can easily buy a top end point and shoot for thousands of dollars less. Let's stop comparing these drones like they were meant to be equals.

      I did watch, but your video implies by the title that (in your professional) opinion the Spark may not be a good choice. I like your video(s). It just seems with the title that it comes across as passive aggressive on the Sparks usefulness. I like a true review of a product. Thanks for answering. Your channel is awesome.

    My first day with the spark was a complete write off . After all the updates were done I was able to get it going the next day. Now I have no regrets , I absolutely love this thing. A couple of key points I'd like to say. turn off return to home height distance when flying in doors or you'll be sorry as it scapes along the ceiling trying to get home on low batt. Also I had some problems flying around a cool bridge cause of an airport near by. This can bypassed by taping a piece of aluminum on top to cut the GPS . The video recorded on the drones SD card comes out a lot better then your phone. Use guards indoor and order extra propellers.

    I totally agree , if you are coming down from bigger better drones you are going to be frustrated with all the limitations . I have owned them all and the Mavic is the best bang for your bucks . Ok the Mavic doesn't quite keep up with the Phantom 4 Pro camera but it eats it on everything else and the camera is still very good on 4K ...

    You probably already know this by now, but you should have bought the Fly More Combo. Nice little carry case, extra battery, smart charger, prop guards (for noobs or tight spaces), and most importantly - the RC controller. The controller makes the Spark so much more fun and useful. With the combo you basically get the extra battery, case, and smart charger for free - when you consider what buying everything separately would cost.

    I have been thinking of buying a drone so I have been watching reviews on it and the mavic. I am subscribe to your channel and really enjoy the way you present information and the techniques you use. I do have to say I think you were a bit harsh on the Spark. Everyone says you have to have the controller. It makes for a much better experience and the hand gestures have to be done for 3 seconds for it to recognize. I would like to see you make it a challenge for yourself. Make an intro or some type of footage using only the spark. What can a pro with all your knowledge make with the Spark. Inspire me! Because the spark is in my price range. Or just send me that one if you really dont like it. HAHA I do enjoy your channel

      In the world of drones now capable of filming in 5K having a max res of 1080p is far from "good quality".

    As a runner who would love to bring a drone with me, this is probably the best choice but that it completely based on the size. Even a big running backpack is not that big and you usually want other stuff with you too. I can see the same thing for hikers and other adventures people. As a film maker who brings a lot of other big stuff the difference in size compared to Phantom 4+ is maybe not so valuable.
