Bro I can say the same thing about you. How has this comment not gey blasted with likes?! I've watched nearly all your videos. Your an inspiration! Cheers from Canberra!
Quite Complex setup. I am a very small online media creator and shoot videos only on my phone. But seeing this setup i got inspired to make better videos and buy this setup one day. Will meet you Peter someday. Love from India !!
Every so often I just love coming back in time to see Peter when he began. Still learning 6 years later..and BRAVO Peter for all you’ve accomplished! You Rock! ~Cara ❤
Smh at the ppl in the comments saying his gear is too expensive, asking for a cheaper alternative. Gear doesn't matter! You can make great content with your phone and sunlight. If something is your passion you're going to invest in it. I'm pretty sure he didn't have all this gear first starting out, and I'm pretty sure he didn't buy it all at once. But again, he made that investment because he is passionate about his work
I am big fan a RUclipsr who I start chat with about her content and she ask me help to game up her gear. She was shooting with her iPhone, with the front facing camera and now she's pretty geared up. So nope you have to buy expensive stuff right at the beginning because you got to remember that old saying "shit in shit out"
The poot people that say gear doesnt matter, never tried good gear, id rather spend 10k on a gear kit that pays itself off beqause it looks good than shitty video that doesnt make money
He is already using crazy dirt dirt CHEAP as chips gear like the NTG4 and H4n, which I'd regard as being woefully inadequate for professional usage by a specialist
I'm also glad you talked about how challenging the technical side of the gear can be. I am finding myself needing arms and things just to do what I want and finding myself really frustrated creatively due to this. I think once you work through the physical side of what's needed the creative flow will 190% be better. Thanks man really enjoy your style. Aloha
Here I am at 81-years-old and watching this young whipper-snapper's video. Well, I am super impressed. I've never really understood photography or video stuff, but (at 81 y/o) just stared to develop an interest. I will definitely be watching more of your interesting and informative videos. Thank you for stoking my interest even more!
Is there a way you can give us a gear list to use that is similar to the gear you have but affordable? If someone would like to start and does not have the funds to purchase some of the gear you put the links for, do you have cheaper alternates? Love your channel by the way!!
Yeeesssss it's so hard when you're starting out. I mean, it can be fun though because it forces you to experiment :P I'm a year into practising film and it's really fun but difficult (until you get to this channel).
Maybe you can start with your smartphone, after you are familiar with filming, then save the money to buy it. Good luck! I'm learning too! Sorry my English is poor ^^
Thanks for the great tour of your setup! Have you ever thought about creating a mobile studio in a van for on the go/road? if so, would absolutely love to know how you do it.
"WOW"... This is the very best video I have ever seen on "How to" set up to shoot... Small space... but (not cheap) yet very professionally done... "Thank YOU Peter" for sharing this comprehensive video ... You are "The Man"... ;)
i swear i probably have watched all your videos more than once. i just love learning new things and you are really great at explaining things and very talented. keep up the goodwork!!
Since last night i've been going over as many videos of yours as I can. Damn it, you're so positive and your videos scream out 'I've put in all my years into this thing and I LOVE what i do!" it's tough but I love it!
This video is amazing and your level of energy is amazing. I never really knew how much time and effort went into making a video until I made my first one and posted it today. Thanks
The struggle is real but resilience is really all you need to make your passion become a reality. Hats off to you and all of your success! great stuff.
WOW. Loved everything. Found you through CaseyNeistat in Amsterdam video- then found YOUR side of the pair here on your channel (which I subscribed to). I found your video in Iceland, then another video of yours in a bus in Iceland... all delightful to see! I get a wee bit anxious when I watch you, you are very high energy and such a seller- all good.
Hey, a minor tip for audio. When you're booming, I would recommend pointing the boom more at your chest than at the mouth for a couple of reasons. The first being incase you move around. If you lean forward the mic will be pointed at your head, and that could contribute to a muddier sound. The other is that pointing it at the chest will give it more of a full sound and cut down on unwanted mouth noises. Great set up!
I very rarely finish a RUclips video, even my own lol, but I don't even know you or have even heard of you. That's what makes what makes what I'm about to say next, genuine. This is the first video from your channel that I've ever watched and I didn't even skip around or click on that click baity video over there. None the less, such a quality video dude! I'm not going to lie and say I subbed either, cause honestly, I'm just not interested. The content's great! It's just that......hell, who am I kidding, SUBBED!
Peter, you are one of my FAVORITE youtubers, especially with your positivity, tutorials, and your honesty. And, I'm from Serbia man. You probably didn't ever heard of it (South European country) :)
Peter, can you do an episode that shows your setup for editing photos and videos? Specifically, what's the best computer monitor for photo editing? What type of monitors do you have when it comes to editing photos & videos? Thank you!
I watch all your videos, and I must say...you have aesthetics...which is beyond gadgets. I am sure you can shoot better stuff even with a mobile phone. Its your storytelling ability... its amazing ...(loved to see your dad in the other video and his passion for making guitars.)
Hey Peter!I am embarking upon developing my own RUclips channel, so I watched your video to get equipment/set-up tips etc. I was soo impressed, I subscribed! You are the 1st vlogger I have ever subscribed to. Kudos to you as you travel and produce more great, high quality vlogs and tutorials...I'll be watching! -D
First time watching. As an aspiring RUclipsr, I learned quite a bit from this video so thanks. After a cursory glance at your channel, I notice you must be someone that has also been inspired by Casey Neistat. Rock on brother. Subscribed.
Alazawi checkout an earlier video he did about using a Home Depot light and foam core from Walmart. Will get your lighting like 80% of the way there for under 50 bucks !
smartphone camera (no cost because everybody already has one) lamps and/or clamp lights ($0 to $16) microphone (no cost if you use the one earbud mic...$2 for an online mic) phone holder (no cost if you make one from cardboard....$1 for selfie stick) tripod (no cost if you use a lamp...yup, check out the screw on top of a lamp) If you want to spend $100, you can buy some photography umbrella lights for about $30 and upgrade your microphone for another $25. You can find tripods for $10-$20 online. You can find used 1080p webcams and cameras for less than $100 (sometimes $50...and if you don't mind 720p, those can be found for $25 all day long).
I wish more of these guys would show low budget things and how you can set it up to look beautiful, most of the best youtubers have gears that are more than a apartment
Thank you for your great videos. I have been contemplating putting myself out there and starting my RUclips channel. I don’t know where to begin and I often feel discouraged, but watching your videos gives me the determination to go on. Happy thanksgiving from Montreal!
I appreciate you. Last night I was talking to some people make videos and we watch professional films and question the techniques. We were wondering how to film a scene by the water without the wind and waves blocking out the person talking. Ha! Use a dead cat! I can't wait to tell them. In their eyes I'm old and it will be fun to come back with an answer. I'm female and fifty five and completely out of my element and can barely believe I'm subjecting myself to the discomfort of learning something entirely new. I'm out of my comfort zone. I always wanted to learn photography but didn't for all sorts of logical reasons. Then, two bouts of cancer showed me that I need to do what gives me joy. Thank you.
youre so good at this! I know exactly what you meant about shifting camera equipments, failing mounts... unrecording audio. Cuz right now I'm at the phased of being the responsible one for the content creators.. And also perfect choice of equipments!
You"re great!!! I'm studying, watching so many videos on youtube, to build my channel. From banner, to camera gear and so on. On my first video, (i hope i'll be able to present it, in the best way), I may gonna use some sketch, from the best youtubers. Or simply, the people that everyday are inspiring me. You're one of them, so, thank you so much for all the passion and effort, to give us the best! I physically don't know, how I'll gonna do it, but I'm not scared to make mistakes. We all start from them; by making it, we learn and we develop ourselves. 4WaysOfLife.....coming soon! Thanks!!!!!
So one thing I'd like to see (you probably already did it lol) is a work flow episode. Just seeing you edit together an episode... I've seen people like BEN BROWN and FILM RIOT do it and I love seeing how people organize/edit quick episodes . . Absolutely love your work!
Peter Awesome Video and definitely enjoyed Thanks so much for sharing.I can't tell you how much I love the equipment you just showed me.I have not seen such nice equipment in a while and some look very familiar especially the Mic that I was fortunate to see how much it has changed from Mr Curtis Judd with the most amazing blue eyes and love his no nonsense attitude when showing me.Can't thank him enough for sharing how much things have become so compact.Again absolutely enjoyed and again Awesome Video Deb.P.S.From one coffee fanatic to another.✌👍
Have you ever tried making merchandise and sell? Your channel is growing and I think it's time you start doing more than just providing us with awesome videos. Make some T-Shirts, Hoodies and tank tops with your logo or signature on it, i'm sure everyone will love them, thumbs up if your agree and leave a reply.
Orangey Avocado it's the 60d which is a mid range crop sensor cam from 2010. It's great for my use case which is beginner to intermediate. I paid $550 Australian dollars for the body, two kit lenses and a carry case. I've had zero issues with the stuff and it's been around 6 months. If you're buying stuff from someone's house they tend not to screw you over since you kniw where they live :D
I paid £700 brand new Canon 60D in 2014, w/18-135kit lens, 50mm 1.4 USM. If i were to buy a new camera i would go for G85/GH4 second hand, 4k/high FPS/high BR - Thats the new beginner to intermediate in my opinion not 25mbps 1080p and 720p slow motion sucks
Zayan Musthafa The Rubik's cube trick is not editing, nor was the cube a gimmick. The trick is by Steven Brundage and is called "Toss up solve" and included in Cube3. I have it and it's pretty easy to perform. But you do have to learn how to solve it in case you mess up.
Video was shot beautifully, I have never seen any of your RUclips videos but this is very eye-opening on what it takes to make this kind of quality. thank you
Hey, I just came across your channel and I'm mighty impressed. I've now subscribed and looking forward to your new content. My eyes are presently enjoying your previous vlogs. Thank you muchly!
Hi I’m also a youtuber and I love your set up, I’m saving money to buy all my camera equipment and all my lighting stuff to... Very impressed with set up and I can’t wait to have a set up almost like yours.... Very helpful video and thanks for sharing.....
Hi Peter, love your videos & tutorials. I saw the lenses on your cameras. I would love to ask for your recommendation for 2 camera lens to use. I love to do like street photography and videography with a canon 5D mark IV. Thanks
Nice job letting people see what it takes to make a nice video . I been taking photos all my life 40 plus years . I would love to do a photo video of them , what in your line of work would you use to put them together to display them in a video for you tube?

It's difficult to make a 17 minute long video without boring the audience and even entertaining them. Bravo Peter!
Bahahaha, that closing cut. Love that you're always so positive, even when the haters come out of their dark corners.

After a cursory glance at your channel, I notice you must be someone that has also been inspired by Casey Neistat. Rock on brother. Subscribed.

thumps up so peter can see it
Alazawi checkout an earlier video he did about using a Home Depot light and foam core from Walmart. Will get your lighting like 80% of the way there for under 50 bucks !
smartphone camera (no cost because everybody already has one)
lamps and/or clamp lights ($0 to $16)
microphone (no cost if you use the one earbud mic...$2 for an online mic)
phone holder (no cost if you make one from cardboard....$1 for selfie stick)
tripod (no cost if you use a lamp...yup, check out the screw on top of a lamp)
If you want to spend $100, you can buy some photography umbrella lights for about $30 and upgrade your microphone for another $25. You can find tripods for $10-$20 online. You can find used 1080p webcams and cameras for less than $100 (sometimes $50...and if you don't mind 720p, those can be found for $25 all day long).
exactly :(
I wish more of these guys would show low budget things and how you can set it up to look beautiful, most of the best youtubers have gears that are more than a apartment
just think about something that will blow your mind..... they didnt always have great gear...
I choke over the cost of equipment but I'm pushing forward. I have spent my life being frugal and I know longer answer to anyone but myself. This is a nice place to be. Your videos are very helpful. Thank you.
One of our dreams! That was pretty awesome!!!
I loved this video. I'm a total newbie but I love everything to do with camera's and video's and you showing how you do your set up is awesome. TFS xx
Peter McKinnon With every intro starting with, "PPUUUWHHATTSSS UP! Everybody!", I'm starting to feel like you were at one point a beatboxer.
This is the only guy who naturally talks with his hands, rather than vloggers who are taught to do it in film school. Authentic is good.
I dig you intro's man, your personality is so contagious.
I LOVE THAT EQUIPMENT ROOM THAT IS A COOL IDEA!!!!!!!!!
ㅠㅠ so much charisma ;; I love all of your videos!
Love your videos my man. From a new vlogger/ videographer, nice work!
Autonomous Life keep at it man!
Thanks Gus Dacosta! New Year resolution= Focus more on channel. Stoked!
Thanks Gus DaCosta! New Year resolution = focus more on channel. Stoked!
The best piece of "gear" you have is your energy and creativity. Very inspiring Peter..:) I'm new here and already a big fan. Keep it up.
you are the best Peter! keep making people like us feel positive when we're talking filmmaking stuff. love you channel!!!
Anyone happen to know:
1. What tripod is used for the camera?
2. What are the parts ("lot of components") for that boom/stand setup for the mic?
What is this leans name 🤔
any other film makers wanna support each other? drop a comment on the video and I'll check you guys out! Cheers.
amazing stuff!!
Nice Videos!
Great job!

The Beautiful World We Live In for sure!!!!
When I first saw his videos, I was like "Damn the quality though!"
Then he makes this video and I guess pricy gears helped.
Outstanding video! People have no idea how much effort it takes to make an outstanding production like yours. Thank you for sharing!
youre so good at this! I know exactly what you meant about shifting camera equipments, failing mounts... unrecording audio. Cuz right now I'm at the phased of being the responsible one for the content creators..
And also perfect choice of equipments!
Surprised you didn't take a photo of the dove 😀
I was thinking the same thing!
I was waiting for the cinematic sequence of the gear room lol

@jliveslife WE are communist.doves will work till they are dead
Peace, you your a beautiful dove I know that!
Notification squad👌🏼
a cool video would be a budget filmmakers kit, just a suggestion :)
t3i with a nifty fifty and a rode mic, thats like $500
using your iPhone? Getting a zoom H1 for audio. LumaFusion for video editing.
Yes. That's a great suggestion. Only a fortunate few have the equipment that is shown in this video.
@@Sheyna82 It is total overkill for vloging!
@@keithperkins9871 Which nifty fifty do you suggest for a T3i? I want to get one.
I just purchased a circle light and have my teleprompter in the center of it. Talking about saving some massive space, this is fantastic
Omg...how have I not found you until now??? You’re amazing! Thank you!!
You"re great!!!
I'm studying, watching so many videos on youtube, to build my channel. From banner, to camera gear and so on.

thumbs up if your agree and leave a reply.
And since you love coffee so much put your signature on coffee mugs, i'm sure that other photographers will love it.
What is the mic stand ? I don't see it listed and I'm looking into investing more into audio
Cody Logel you ever find out?
Juston Brazda , no. I just purchased a generic one from Henry's
I just learned that editing doesn't look bad and you can sound so on point.

If i were to buy a new camera i would go for G85/GH4 second hand, 4k/high FPS/high BR - Thats the new beginner to intermediate in my opinion not 25mbps 1080p and 720p slow motion sucks
haha
That Rubik Cube edit at the end tho
Woooo! ;)
so flawless :D
Ismael Ouattara I don't think it's edited, and I don't want to believe that and don't forget that peter is a magician
Is not edited, it's a trick designed by Adam Wilber if i'm not mistaken

Video was shot beautifully, I have never seen any of your RUclips videos but this is very eye-opening on what it takes to make this kind of quality.

Nice job letting people see what it takes to make a nice video . I been taking photos all my life 40 plus years . I would love to do a photo video of them , what in your line of work would you use to put them together to display them in a video for you tube?
