- Many of us dream of leaving the modern world behind and escaping to an idyllic off-the-grid cabin where we can relax, enjoy quiet time and be with nature. In this weeks episode, we meet an inspiring couple who did exactly that, building an amazing cabin by the river.
At 54 square meters, (850ft2) this small cabin is situated in a stunning location with panoramic views looking over the river and out to the forest beyond. Completely off-the-grid, solar powered and with rain water collection, this cabin is a beautiful and fully functional home.
From its modern, black exterior through to the warm plywood interior and exceptional views, this cabin is a dream home. Enjoy the full video tour!

I hope you all enjoy this weeks video! With all the craziness in the world I think there are lots of people right now who are dreaming of escaping to a simple and beautiful off the grid cabin. If you can't escape into nature yourself right now, at least you can escape into this video! With love, Bryce & Rasa
😍😍
Was there a washer and dryer or do they go into town to wash their clothes? Love the Mountain view’s!
You actually stood up straight on the second level.
Thanks so much guys, this is beauuutiful! We are saving already for our tiny house! Thanks to all the beautiful and touching videos u share with us. Guys, why did u stop providing measurements in meters? :'(

The urge to get a Tiny House during this quarantine has gone through the roof for me
A lofty goal.
I'm sure you're not alone there!
Very punny... But same
actionfighters yes! I live on a busy road and for two months or more it was so quiet. Now the noise is driving me nuts...desperate to move
Me too, thank goodness for Bryce
Bryce is literally one of the best listeners ever...he is genuinely interested in what other people are saying and this channel is so professional that I used to think it was run by some company.
Thanks so much! So glad you enjoy our videos.
i agree, makes you feel like this is something right off the tv. like i forget im on youtube when watching them
@@DropDeadCharles Yes I feel the same way. He needs to be on TV because he is so professional and I just love watching his videos.
@@YollyB maybe there's more control of your projects on RUclips than on TV minus the algorithm like independent musicians vs musicians st the mercy of record labels.
Charles Hertlein agreed! This is literally better than tiny house shows that are on TV. Such great production and no hosts beat Bryce!
Just one word to express how I like their house: "yea"
Right 😂 Yea, yea, yea...

Yea yea!

Me talking about tiny house plans a year ago:
Adults: *dont care*
Me talking about tiny houses in quarantine:
adults: so smart, what a genius child
haha. Sounds like a positive shift!
Good they are listening to reason now!
Same, but reverse places. Our kids finally are getting it.
If it's a tiny house on wheels, you also have some safety if water levels start to rise due to global warming, you can just drive your house higher ;)
i'm honestly so glad
suddenly im not a crazy teenager anymore
suddenly my interest in tiny houses is worth it
my dream is to one day be able to work remotely in a tiny house on wheels with my two house rabbits
Love your channel! :)
Now, this is the kind of home I could 100% see myself living in. Perfect size.
Same. Especially that lounge and kitchen space was so cozy and not as smothered as a typical tiny house...
Yeah yeah
Yeah, of course.
This is the home I want - anyone into building it for me- minus the plywood?
For me 2 ..
as a kiwi i never noticed the amount of "yeah's" until i looked through the comments.
but yeah, it's great

Yeah same 😂 I was reading everyone pointing it out and I was like ‘oh shit yeah we really do say yeah a lot’
😂🤣 we totally do!

Mark: yeah yeah.

Best comment I’ve seen in ages 😂😂
Trump: I don't know anybody who can make a comment or a tiny house better than Me. Trust me I know.
B-e-a-uuutiful house btw and also, I'm glad and honored to have giving a good few laughs.
Funny how that varies around the world! Here in Canada, we usually reply "Right on, eh"; older generation says "Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah".
Bryce talking about tap water is the first time I've ever heard him say something negative in these videos lol
Because the government puts chorine and fluoride in our drinking water. Both terrible things😤. We need to learn about these things and wake up 🇺🇸 America
@@ElementalLove888 Chlorine is a disinfectant. Without disinfecting water, people will get sick from disease-causing microorganisms. Plus, chlorine is totally safe. It is cheap also compared with other forms of disinfection such as using ozone.

This doesn’t seem tiny but I feel like it’s a perfect size for me.
Best time house I have seen here. So cozy. So perfect! He has his own land but a little expensive. Above $100,000 is my crossover point.
That’s what she said.
I agree. Tiny is neat but this is cozy and doesn’t feel cramped. They don’t waste space. It’s the smallest that I could image living in.
I agree
This is a great home!
"Yeah, nah yeah" definitely a kiwi and Aussie thing to say. This was a LOT though! Lmao

One of my favorite tiny homes aesthetically and sustainably. The couple is adorable too!
I wish I had them for parents. I would settle for neighbors any day, though.
The end of the video, the invitation for Bryce to sit in The Old Man Chair and Bryce taking that invitation and the last shot ending this video with Bryce taking in that view was just brilliant and so lovely! I never comment but this is why I'm such a fan! What you two bring to these videos just amazes me! Please keep up the good work. Thank you!

In my opinion this is the most beautiful tiny house I've seen!!!! I absolutely love everything about It! Just can't say enough of it's beauty inside and out. Actually, that couch is a great midcentury piece.
I have alot of those. Love to donate( trash) them all in one load. Lol
I love seeing “older” people (as in not 20year olds) joining the movement! It shows that anyone can live in a tiny house and customize it to their needs. Thank you for another amazing video!
@RUclips Account for real. It's makes all the more sense for older people downsize like this, especially when the kids have moved out. What more could you ask for?
the older generations are usually the ones with the money saved up too lol, 20 year olds don't have any savings stored away for something like this, to no fault of their own lol
SpaceFlye True but nice to have space when offspring come to visit with partners or kids of their own.
I’ve watched THOUSANDS of tiny home videos. I’ve always dreamed of a cabin in the woods. This home is by far my favorite! I absolutely love all the artwork thru out the home. What a beautiful property!! I love the black on the cabin too. It looks so elegant!
Oh thank you so much! This is exactly the type of peacefulness I needed right now!

Thank you for this. I would really love to see more "permanent" small homes that are not built on trailers like this house.
Indeed! My wife and I are considering tiny home living, but where we live is prone to some intense storms and we’re not transient enough for a trailer tiny home.
I agree. Plus building codes in hurricane areas. I don’t have a job that I can just pick up & leave when one is coming.
A hurricane shelter might be a worthwhile investment.
being a non native english speaker, i always love to hear different accents.
Three takeaways from the video:
1. Kiwis are lovely people
2. New Zealand is a beautiful country
3. Nothing and I mean nothing beats black+wood exterior!
Azeem Ashraf Well said!
Well ply as I like I can never seem to get my tiny house.
Kiwis aint lovely people 😂😂
They haven't used wood for the exterior, it looks like corrugated iron.
Awwww thank you 😇
This is the best house I've ever seen. I love that they have a 'proper' bedroom and also that they can stand up in the mezzanine level. The only thing I would do differently is have a veranda along the side of the house that looks out onto the river, so in the warmer months there would be somewhere nice to sit outside.
Who painted the ‘Tattooed Lady’ portrait on the wall? She’s BREATHTAKING!
So nice to see a small cabin that's not "tiny." There's room to stretch and room to breathe. Very well done, yeah? Yeah, yeah.
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
The turquoise back-splash in the kitchenette and the sitting area w/ fireplace, does it for me. Also that bus art has me feelin-a-way.
The red accent sofa is life for me. ☺️It really brightens up the room. Oh, and the view over the mountain tops 😍😍😍need I say more?💙💙💙💙
Yes, wonder who the artist was, maybe, Kare?? The whole house has a artistic aura.💖

Ok, this is my new favorite. Large enough to move around, small enough to be easy to maintain. And I love that the mezzanine area is full height, because at my age crawling around on my knees in the loft is not a very good idea. And of course, the setting is beautiful. Gorgeous cabin very well-designed and lovely to look at.
Honestly, any house design that requires a lot of crawling or shuffling things about just to do daily activities is poorly designed. It's good to see tiny home builds like this that actually are built with practicality in mind.
Mezzanine would be a perfect home cinema
I really like this house, except the decoration which was meh!
I also like the spaciousness and nice to have extra room since they’ve got kids that are out the house and might want to come visit. I’m just wondering: how will it work when the do have people staying upstairs when access to the only bathroom is through their own bedroom? That doesn’t seem realistic. It would have been better to have the bathroom separate from the main bedroom like most other small houses.
Maritsa Appollis - pretty sure you can access it from the other side too, there’s a recess next to the vanity that seems to coincide with a door next to the main entrance, to the right of the kitchen.

Hello Bryce and Rasa my name is Rose and I am 15. I am interested in designing and building a tiny house for when I move out of the house. I kinda already know what I want it to look like. I am planning on designing it this school year and then starting to build it next summer and continue building it over the next few years. I am very new to all this. Do yall think i would need to hire a builder? I do have some family and friends who have some handy talents... my uncle can do electricity and plumbing and my one of my grandpas had a wood working shop, only small stuff like benches and Entertainment centers, my other grandpa builds cars.
Is there any tips or warnings i should know before I embark on this journey?
Do yall think I would actually be able to do it?
I hope you see this!
Cheers, Rose
P.S Love your videos!!!
Hey Rose! It's totally up to you, but you can definitely build it yourself. It sounds like you're in a lucky situation with family who have skills and can help out. Have you seen this video of an 18 year old who built a tiny house in her final year of school? ruclips.net/video/kiKh-neczTE/видео.html
Lina Rose don’t hire a builder, get your family to show you how to build. And have fun!
Let your family help and teach you at the same time, once you've learnt the skills nobody can take it away from you and you can always use that in future! Skills like that have become a forgotten art!
I have one word for you, Rose: RESEARCH! Look at videos of tiny builds (you are in the right channel for that here!), take shop/carpentry classes at school if you can, trade work for learning experiences if you can find them, read how-to books...
Teach a man to fish and he’ll be fed for life.
Go for it!
Nice home! Love the downstairs bedroom. Love the exterior and that it sits on a foundation. Seems a little bigger than your typical tiny home...it's just big enough for two empty nesters. I wish Bryce would have gotten them to show him what that small little out building was. Looked like a little hang out spot or something.
“Yeah”, just kidding i loved this guest and house!

Totally love this and I just realized that my own home is this exact size, a 50's Florida concrete block house, it was used only for 6 months for vacations, a lucky find for me and it's all the space I need...I have a tiny home, who knew, oh yeah, on a quarter acre on a lake, Imma lucky girl...!
What stunning views! Love the cabin, small but looks spacious. Thanks for drawing these superb homes to our attention and helping me dream tiny!

After watching dozen episodes of Living Big in a tiny house, I'm started to thinking that New Zealand is the truly "home" of the tiny house, isn't?
Yeah yeah yeah
I don't know much about new zealand, but I'm getting the idea that normal housing is unaffordable for the average person.
All I know is they are stunningly beautiful and I wish American builders would catch on. 😭
Justaviewer
Rent is around 300-600 dollars, if that’s expensive to you, then yeah I guess so 🤷🏽♀️ but because of covid, housing prices are going down so that’s good
@@MrChadRB It's bloody expensive for the average person to buy a place, which I guess is part of the reason why so many people rent. not that many people have much of a disposable income.
I played the "take a shot every time he says 'yeh' " game and blacked out at 3:38 minutes in....I was drinking light beer

Such a professional, interesting series of shows Bryce - I love them.
I love our natural Kiwiness, "Yeah, Yeah, Nah" this is a stunning. A very humble couple with a big dream turned into reality. This is my favourite Tiny House, it is a real house, standing room in the master bedroom and the loft bedroom with a beautiful back drop, the Mokau river. Their art work is crazy amazing.
Yes, their artwork IS amazing! Thank you! I was scrolling through the comments thinking to myself, 'Am I the only one who noticed the gorgeous art hanging in this house?!' Surprised Bryce didn't even mention any of it. Oh well, it's still a great episode. Love this channel!
This couple so cool and chilled. Love the style and there home, the dream, literally the dream. Artwork so cool to.👍🤙😎
Loved the artwork throughout the house & the fact is he's standing upright in the bedroom.
That's the only gripe I have with other tiny homes, the sleeping area you have to stoop, crawl in & out of the bed, bumping your head in the process.
The landscaping, septic & water systems, along with the solar panels, were completely thought out in that footprint. Wonderful craftsmanship, btw.👍
I have the same thought about those loft bedrooms, being elderly. Some of them feel claustrophobic w. the ceiling so close- reminds me of the top bunk in a submarine. Also I sketch and write a bit in bed each evening before sleeping.
"Yea, yeah, yeah." LOVE that this house looks LIVED in.

The whole house was beautiful and spacious for its overall size. I loved the kitchen, the bedrooms and master bath was surprisingly large. Also the mezzanine sealed it for me because you didn’t have to crawl in and out the way you do in other tiny houses. I loved everything about this house!

I like seeing older couples who retire big in their tiny homes.
It's called winning in life.

Replying to Kyle
@Kyle P I dunno where you live but in America ALL adults are having a hard time making ends meet. Young ppl turn to tiny homes because it gets them out of debt, they can save, plan and achieve financial security as they grow their families. And old ppl may chose it because maybe they'd rather do a lot more than maintaining a huge home in their golden years. Plus, many ppl have been disenchanted by capitalist consumerism, ppl don't wanna waste their lives stock piling stuff they don't need just so they can keep up with the Joneses. Many ppl would rather teach their kids other valuable lessons besides glutinous consumerism.
Others still may want a tiny home in order to minimize their footprint because they care about the environment. Some ppl may like the flexibility of being able to locate their homes anywhere they please. The benefits are many and that's why ppl choose to live in tiny homes. That will become apparent to you if you watch more of the videos on this channel.
Mel....older??? ....damn kids!
It's my observation that the more constraints you have wrt space and money, the more wildly different and creative your minds starts thinking about how to utilize the available space and more importantly what is really needed and what is fluf.
ALL the tiny houses that you have visited Bryce have their own individuality that just keeps on impressing me every time I watch one of your videos.

I felt so bad after laughing on my own about "yeah", then after coming to the comment section and realising that other people heard it too, I don't feel bad at all. XD
Love how the homeowners are so oriented to what's practical for them -- like reeling up the hammock chair to the peak ceiling when not in use and vacuuming the whole house on only one plug!

Out of all the tiny houses I’ve seen online, this one is way up there among the faves, if not the most favourite. Well done.
Beautiful home irregardless of the plywood that he seems to be kind of bashful about
Plywood is a very strong product and not to ashamed of.
Dam that was a weird flex now that irregardless is a word.
What a beautiful, cozy cabin. Love how big the ceiling is so you don’t feel cramped. The loft is so spacious too. Only thing I change is the shower to a full size tub shower since theirs space in there. This is what I want when my kids FINALLY get out and I can just have a beautiful space by the beach.
I swear Bryce has a list of positive words and phrases he uses in every video!
But yet it always sounds natural and very sincere. I think Bryce is the best interviewer I've ever seen, and not just tiny house owner interviews. Bryce could interview anyone about anything.
Bryce is very sincere and you can absolutely tell he loves meeting people and hearing each of their tiny house stories.... Thank you Bryce... From another Kiwi... Piha NZ
I think ask people to
View and ‘critique’ their homes is quite tricky and I was just thinking that he is always respectful and kind.
Maybe all the Karen’s of the world just need an off the grid cabin to chill out
I know I do🤗but my name isn't Karen 😣!!
So true or maybe not screaming at anyone get them more angry they rip the house down. Why did that just come in my head
They don't deserve a tiny house like this. They need an island where all the Karens can roam free, wild, and crazy... What a beautiful sight from 3,000 miles away.
@@GMoney-B you know they'll just build a giant megaphone out of palm trees and coconuts and yell loud enough through it.
New idea for a tv show
Karen Island
One retail manager/service worker must survive on an island full of Karens.
Love the double “Yeah”s and if he really likes what he hears, he busts out a triple. “yeah yeah yeah’ . Hilarious
One of the most spacious-seeming tiny homes I've seen - including a loft where you can stand up.
because it is a size of typical apartments ;-)
Yeah (pun only mildly intended), I think that this style/size would appeal to a much wider audience than the average tiny home.
It has the square footage of a small apartment, which a lot of people are content with in that context. I think that it's almost.... Habit (?) to assume that houses need to be much bigger.
Personally, I really like when space is used effectively. So having a ton of wasted space would just annoy me
My house is including the shed 84 square meters, with a three-bedroom, an attic, and a cellar. Very spacious there. Next to the river, would go for this placement though. No close neighbours.
