- Learn how to Pronounce "Water" in British English and American English. I am from the UK (York), so I show you two possible ways (out of many others) to pronounce the word "water" (with one having the glottal stop). Shereen from the US (Minnesota) shows us how it's pronounced in her accent. You may hear other variations of this pronunciation and see various transcriptions, so please expose yourself to different accents and check different reliable references for transcriptions.

I teach using just one of many accents in the world. Please only learn it if you like it and if you are interested in learning it. I do not believe there is one “correct” accent or manner of pronunciation and I fully encourage EFL/ESL learners to expose themselves to as many varieties of English around the world to become accustomed to the beautiful variations of this world language. I focus mostly on teaching “Modern RP” (I may just say “RP” in my older videos, but to clarify, I do specifically mean “Modern RP”), however, you will hear a lovely little Yorkshire twang to my accent from time to time too. Please LOVE and BE PROUD of your accent. After all, it is part of your identity and makes you unique. 💚

Thanks for your informative and educational videos, Emma.
Enjoyed your u tube about 'water'. It was fun. I am American and grew up just outside of Philadelphia. I moved to the Western US ( Arizona) when I was just 23 and my very first item of importance was to LOOSE my Philadelphia accent.
So here is what I would like to tell you. Where I grew up we pronounced water 'wooder' . And there were many other words that were not understandable by those in my new home out West. So it was not long before I trained myself to do the best to learn a very neutral way of speaking in the English language without what I consider illiterate sounding English.
Hope to be able to tune into you again. I love language. Keep up the good work. Cheers!
I love your accent. It is very comprehensible. Additionally, today's video is fantastic.
everyone gangsta till a british dude says water
Love how you liked your own comment there

Hi Emma, you picked the best American teacher to demonstrate the American pronunciation
Really great and you're way of teaching extremely amazing Emma.. 👍🙏👍🙏😍😊🤗
I'm new to this channel !!!I'm from India
And I realized that I had a mixture of American , British English with obviously a bit of Indian accent !!
I used to speak with more of a British accent when I was kid ( I don't know y , may b coz of some influence of movies ) many of my schoolmates thought it as something different , unique , weird , wrong pronouncing etc .
I tried to go on with more of a Indian accent and NOW I'm trying to get back to my old accent !!!!!! weirdo me*
You’re not weird 😊
Emma your pronunciation is terrific! you teach very well.
Hi Emma,

It is good you compare BrE to AmE. When I studied at different universities in Poland, California, Germany and Ireland, I met so many people speaking different accents from all over the world (including native speakers of English from five continents). Good luck in your fine work. Best wishes and greetings, Paul/Paweł and Gosia 🌞 🧡 🌤 🌹 ⛱ 🌅 🧡 😊 🌞 🌟 🍀 🇵🇱 🏝 🏖 🌅 🧡 💙

hi bạn cùng chí hướng :)
the british accent sounds so sweet Emma I like the way you teach
I fancy the British accent. I live in São Paulo, Brazil and I feel we're more in touch with the American accent here. But I really wish I could speak like the British. Your accent and diction are outstanding! Xoxo!
Yes, British accent is difficult for other people, but American accent is easy to understand!
Your*
British accent is realistic . No change of letters .
T is T not d, as the American pronounce it .
The difficult thing in British accent to me is that cuttings when they say " NOT" , for example.
They say it " NO' " .. in addition to many other words. That,s what they call it # the glottal stop # ,described in this videos. I don,t like this glottal stop .it confuses me so i can,t cope with if someone speaks fast ,simply bcoz i,m non native speaker.
In britin , the word " water " pronounce it (WOOTAH) .
IF someone said wootah : just like that in America , people there might laugh at him ; meanwhile it,s absolutely correct when it comes to the letters of the word.
English language was born in England .
It is English NOT Amerikish !😊😊😀
Indians: waaturr

Whenever I hear "water", it reminds me of living in Hastings. Especially the glottal 't' sound is one of my favorites! Cheers!

i needed this 🇬🇧! (🇧🇷)
Hello Emma ma'am, kindly make a video on this topic, /ʊə/ vs /w/ ,although both are almost same sound. But i am failed to differentiate them.
I'm Brazilian and i spent all my life thinking the English pronunciation of water was emphasizing the real sound of letter "T", while the Americans change the "T" to "R"! I already stayed in London for a short time but I didn't notice that!
✍️Love you ma'am I love watching your video and I always look forward to your video. But you are requested to make a video on the British Listening Practice Daily Routine Sentence.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I already have a video about daily routine but with a Phrasal verb focus. Go check it out in the grammar playlist
Excellent 🌹
Thanks for video keep going 🤠 greeting from Morocco
