@@DelusionalDunmer This is a better idea than just "hurr durr magic bad gun good because bullet shoot through barrier" I'm so tired of smartasses acting like a bullet would beat magic. If this was the case then all magical fantasies would eventually evolve guns instead of magical weapons. Plot twist fray is just a homeless New Yorker that took 50 Benadryl‘s and a pound of ketamine and she’s really just overdosing on a park bench the entire game.
Actually to be realistic it would be fentanyl and benzos. I live like 4 hours away from ny. Im in pa so all the dope around here comes from NY (don't ask how I know) ... Ketamine is being found in bags that overdose victims have so they are using to cut the fet but still. Besides that I agree completely
I feel bad for the actress who played the main character. First she had a main character role for the Resident Evil series from Netflix, now she's in Forspoken. Whoever is responsible for picking her auditions needs to be fired.
I love how they unintentionally go for all the black people stereotypes. The main character is a homeless felon that never shuts up and was abandoned by her parents as a child. She also loves shoes and her painted nails give her powers. Like damn, is her favorite food fried chicken and watermelons, too?
Don't forget they all have to drop the F word all the time. Not even GTA is like that.

@@ali32bit42 Luminous Engine was created (work began in 2012) because S-E was impressed with Unreal Engine but wanted to create their own after the failiure of their Crystal Tools Engine and also to have an engine they wouldn't have to be taught by foreigners how to use. Ironically they ended up doing that anyway with KH3, DQ11 and FF VIIR, as the Luminous Engine proved to be annoying; so much so that Yoshi P of FF XIV ended up tweaking the engine so much for FF XIV ARR (1.0 used Crystal Tools), that it barely resembled Luminous anymore (and is the engine being used for FF XVI btw), and Nomura just ditched Luminous Engine altogether for Unreal Engine for Kingdom Hearts 3 and 4, and Dragon Quest 11 also used Unreal Engine as did FF VII Remake. So only FF XV and Forespoken use Luminous Engine but it was always trying to ape Unreal engine.

@@qwerty_artist one of my favorite spin on the homeless protagonist is magnus chase, the Norse saga of the percy Jackson series. I think I’ve read every single Rick riordan book besides the Egyptian series
@@captainanus8131 it was good, I just think it was a bit too complex for it to be interesting to me. It’s more the magic and mythology rather than the actual story. That’s why I liked the other ones, as the powers were never too complicated to understand. Another good series besides Percy Jackson that I like is rangers apprentice. It’s a sort of historical fiction set in medieval Europe. It’s insanely good. That and the underland chronicles I’d recommend if you haven’t read them
I dont understand. Amy Hennig was one of the writers on the game, and yet the game is like it was written by a 10 year old. Like didn't she work on Uncharted? That game had pretty clever dialogue. How can the same person mess up like this?
I saw cuff as bad guy even earlier than you did. "Hmm... are any male characters in the game not assholes, morons or bumbling crazies? Hmm, one: Cuff sounds competent and sane. That means one thing: he's the villain."
There's never any actual foreshadowing either, unless maybe in the extra collectibles in Lore that you can miss entirely so when the Longplay I watched reached that point (that player never showed that optional stuff) I just spoke out loud "This makes no sense at all, wtf is this shit?" Somehow worse than when they made that mistake in Final Fantasy 13
Holy shit this is too true 💀 men bad!!!! Reminds me of when I watched the candyman remake where every single white character was an insane racist the dies horribly including the children. Made it easy to predict what kind of person the character would be based on their skin color the moment you saw them (definition of racism? 🤔)
While I was watching this I looked up forspoken and one of the first things I get is an article talking about how Forspoken has such an emotional and powerful ending, has well-developed story and characters, and has a message about sacrifice (because you can't be with the cat I guess), and goes on to say "the game’s developer, Square Enix, has not confirmed a sequel, but Forspoken’s open-ended ending has left fans hoping for more. A sequel would give players the chance to continue their journey with Frey and her companions, and explore the game’s rich world even further. A Forspoken sequel, or Forspoken 2, would be a great opportunity for Square Enix to build on the mixed and critical acclaims of the first game, attracting new players and retaining existing fans. With its stunning visuals, captivating storyline, and immersive gameplay, a Forspoken 2 would be a welcome addition to the gaming world." I hate video game journalists so much
Any "fan" who liked this will forget the game few days later. I watched few videos like this. Pyro predicted "main villain" twist. Another guy just after beating the dragon predicted it's protagonists mom.Etc etc. It's just such a predictable game with shitty characters full of stereotypes. The game is just a map with plain empty looking areas where you spam abilities against brain dead AI. I don't care if people had fun playing this. They should not lie to themselves and most importantly to others that this is amazing game. Forspoken just should be Unspoken.
probably just shilling for the good graces of Squeenix so that they get invited to pre release events, as they all do. No honesty about anything, because honesty is bad for business.
1:12:04 In a better written game this could be a phenomenal ending. Imagine for a second, a more likeable character with better writing who is absolutely ecstatic throughout the game that they're in this fantasy world. Truly enjoying it and becoming invested in everything about it. But she can't stay. And no matter how hard she tries, no matter how many solutions she can think of nothing works. Eventually her time is up and she gets thrown back into the real world, with a dull job, and nothing but her cat for comfort. Where does she go now? What can compare after the adventure she's been through? A normal job, a regular life. That would be hell to someone like this.
The story of FF Tactics Advanced 1 is kinda like this I guess? Or in Dr Who this is what happens to people after they finish an adventure with the Doctor Definitly an interesting field to explore in stories
It's like how during every Phisnom stream, there's always someone asking him "Are you having fun yet" (Mostly to trigger PTSD from his first FNAF Security Breach stream)

@@Nobody44112 Yea I know it is a kinda dumb argument, like saying that if someone is criticizing air pollution, but still breathing that air, that means that they either are lying about it or are a hypocrite. @@Nobody44112 this is such a dumb quote. “Curious🤓” lolll Obviously you can criticize society while still taking part in it. Just because you criticize something doesn’t mean you hate it. Like if you said the walls on your house were old and shattered does that mean you would rather live outside?
It's like the writters had no idea how to make that scene work. 'Oh damn, if she gets the bag then there is no reason for her to go to the Isekai world'.

I love the new trend of making protagonist unlikeable, she is so condescending to the thing that si always actively helping her the “cuff” she keeps calling it that to just actually make it feel bad no one can hear it talking but her, and she still tells it to shut the f up because that will help her blend in faster?? and how when she says she fights despite no one wanting her there, WOMAN THEY ARE BEGGING FOR YOU TO STAY AND FIGHT WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN!!?
Its hilarious, too. Out of the two main characters, the Cuff and Frey, the Cuff is by FAR the more likable character of the two... and he turns out to be a world-killing, genocidal murder demon!? Man, I've gotta say, that right there should tell you everything you need to know about this game. The genocidal murder demon is more likable, more relatable and interesting than the MC.
Foreskin, caplisco protocool, badfeild 2042, all these new games are just so good and fun and amazing 😍 so happy we have such amazing developers nowadays. p.s checkout sons of the forest dropping in Feb it looks like one of the only good games this year
what wouldve been cooler is that the story was self-aware and knew it was being obvious about the cuff being evil and also have the other witch girls say that its evil and that they want to get rid of it, but they couldve had the girl accept this because the cuff gives her cool powers, and that she doesnt care and that she wants the powers because its the first time she's ever been given autonomy and control in her life, and she doesn't want to get rid of it Shit story idea, I know, but it would be better than whatever I just watched.
It's not a bad idea at all, actually, it gives the mc motivation to become an anti-hero of sorts. Maybe though, if the cuff gave her riches or the ability to change the past or something, so it makes up for what she actually never had :p
That is good writing actually. Letting clues for ppl to pick up during the story, so they may have a chance to guess a twist before it come, or after seeing the twist be like "wow, how did I not realized that before, it was obvious" In forspoken the twist come out of nowhere, and there's no story indication of it. It feels like the writers of this game were D&D, and they wrote it just like they wrote the last seasons of GoT, making shitty twist that had no sense just to try to surprise the audience
I'm just preaching to the choir here but your suggestion is 100x better than what they used in this tax write-off. Maybe when the Cuff is free, he wouldn't kill the main chick straight away but instead keep her around as a partner and give her powers. A good example of this working is from, funnily enough, a PS3 game called Infamous 2. Where near the end you can team up with the big baddie to get a huge boost to your powers and end up ruling the world in the end.
20:46 Protip: if you have been captured by people thinking you are the aggressor, a good move is to try to deescalate the situation. Even if it doesnt get you off scott free, it's better than being openly hostile ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE OUTMATCHED. It's like giving the gang lip when they got a gun pressed against your throat. OH WAIT.
@@yourdude9942 nice miss. The game isn't even comparable to how dogshit these games are. The hints were pretty annoying but that's probably my biggest issue with the game.

Those one liners were very reminiscent of Life is Strange; the way you look at stuff and the main character _has to say something every time_ Thank you, Square Enix.
I mean, in that game they comment when you press a button to specifically observe something. In this game she just talks constantly whether you're trying to observe something or not.
but life is strange had a excuse as it was essentially a modern point and click adventure game the characters never shutting up was always a thing in those types of games. plus as cringe as it could get alot of the time the writing is just lightyears and lightyears ahead of forspoken in eveyway.
Okay, I must admit, in the final fight when Frey says "The one fhing I do get is you're not alone! Even when you think you are..." And the boss replies "Oh spare me" that one I actually liked. Like that one line from the boss is something I actually really like. The combination of him just standing her, his dry tone of voice and him just starting blasting... Yeah, I like that.
Thats basically the norm in this current gen of crap we get Adult writers usually consists of 30 - 60 year olds that has no idea how teens - young adults talk
This game is truly the best Souls-like of our generation, as it saps the humanity of everyone that plays it and slowly turns them into a Hollow. Edit: This will be the only comment I make that'll get above 10 likes or something. Thanks, I guess, Internet strangers!
when your main character gets held up and the first thought of everyone watching is "damn i hope they shoot her" I think you might need to go back to the drawing board on the character thing
Especially when your main character doesnt know to bite their tongue when outnumbered by a gang. She deserved the consequences of giving them lip at that moment.
57:00 The game could have unironically been saved if Frey died there and from there onwards you played as the edgy demon killing everyone in the world.
I’ll be honest, other than the character model I don’t see how we’d be able to notice a difference in the game. Well, on second thought the edgy killer demon probably would’ve been more like-able.
I was playing Death Standing while watching this. DS was infinitely more interesting, still is. That part sucked too cause you had to waltz through BT territory to all those assholes who live up in the hills
So here's the thing; I think using games to tell a story is a good thing. I'm all for that. But the thing is, a game implies it is interactive. The player has an active role, rather than passively consuming cutscenes. Everything is scripted so hard it may as well be a visual novel or a netflix show that gets yeeted after the second season.
Plenty of AAA games have toed that line in recent years - Uncharted, Red Dead II, the new GoW games, GTA V, and the Last of Us games all have heavily scripted events with basic AI and minimal gameplay
@@ac8911 last I checked, Last of Us actually let you perform the tasks without forcing you into a cutscene whenever you did a non-linear movement. It feels like its memeing with how often it does that

So this story is full of tropes we've all seen before in other media: The down on their luck orphan with no direction in life who constantly gets into trouble and dreams of a better adventure - Percy Jackson Magically being transported to a fantasy land at a convenient time - Any isekai ever Suddenly being the most popular and beloved person after a few feats of skill/dumb luck - Sword Art Online Fake version of ideal life promised to you by the baddie if you give in - God Of War Ascension Your closest ally tricks you into releasing him from his prison and is actually evil - idk, probably a sonic game The true power was inside you all along - *Insert here* Who would have thought cringey dialogue would have been the least of this game's problems?
I understand what ur trying to say but every type of media uses tropes. They're just writing memes at this point and escaping them is basically impossible
"Your closest ally tricks you into releasing him from his prison and is actually evil" is the entire point of Bioshock (and by association, System Shock 2 as well) also if you'd like other examples, Clive Barker's Jericho, Doom Eternal (I mean the Dark Lord isn't really your ally, but the whole story turns out to have been set up by him since the dawn of time so it counts?), Half-Life Alyx
Wow. I can't believe they legit did the "we just didn't tell you the main problem of the setting"-twist. Imagine if in Lord of the Rings no one told Frodo the ring was evil and he walked all the way to Mount Doom because the Ring told him to and right before throwing it in, the Nazgûl all show up around Frodo to say: "The ring, Frodo, it's evil. The Elves didn't tell you because you were just so fast, there was no way for them to stop you and tell you this, but now we do because you need to know what is going on, now give us the ring and stop being silly with those ideas of throwing the ring into the lava and saving your world, what would that accomplish, Frodo please see reason you little idiot with no powers. I'm all powerful, I know that you're fucked so just give me the ring and jump into the lava, please."
Worse thing is pointing out bad storylines and writing always gets the you a sexist card if the MC is a woman nowadays, you could have made this a cool game if this lead actually wanted to be in the fucking world!
Thanks for providing another major way in which this plot falls apart. So the denizens of Cipal would know about the true cause of The Break, given the Tantas' rather close relationship with the people there. But because they decided not to tell anyone close to them that Susurrus split himself into four cuffs, latched himself onto them and is in the process of driving them mad, the plot is allowed to happen. Had they actually said something, it wouldn't be a mystery to the remaining 1% of the population why they suddenly went crazy. The driving force of the central threat is led from a group of powerful sorceresses concealing the fact that they will go crazy and drive the world and the people they care about to ruin. Amazing writing.

It feels like a slap in the face to even mention this atrocity in the same sentence as Infamous. That series actually felt like a game, and a pretty fun one at that.
I am at a loss for words that this made it past the initial pitch, it went into storyboarding, developers got hired to do this, it passed through quality assurance testing and got released to steam with a $100 price tag
I think that they got past storyboarding and then when it came to actually formatting the game and making gameplay that's where they failed they had a really interesting story but they couldn't find a way to tell it to you without just shoving it down your throat at the end
That's always the story with these kinds of games. What we get is extremely different from what was intended originally. As they develop the game and see what they can and cannot do, they rewrite, adapt, repurpose and generally remake the game while it's in production. Games that have good devs, writers, don't have higher-ups fucking everything up and generally have a vision behind them can survive the process. Games that do not end up as disjointed and full of contrivances or plot holes. This was made by Square Enix so... it's about as expected, sadly. I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't originally meant to be a Final Fantasy game that was repurposed.
We need to respect FromSoftware for not giving us a cutscene hell like this, at least for Elden Ring, each NPC, dialogue, boss, feels more meaningful and interesting, because you're actually hunting for lore instead of being just bombarded by it 24/7.
Also, when Elden Ring does throw cutscenes at you they are usually jaw-dropping moments that make sense to make more cinematic than the rest of the game.

@@Dr.Oofers What's even worse that they practically make the newer Deus Ex franchise (since Human Revolution) with it's third game got canned after 4-5 years of waiting from that stupidly blows cliffhanger ending in Deus Ex Mankind Divided, and that game was from 2016
At this point Dragons' Dogma 2 could've ended up released sooner than third sequel in Deus Ex games, or worse considering of how long and highly specialised the production of a good Immersive Sim game, let alone a AAA-grade kind of that would take years upon years until it'll became even realised, sequel to HR and MD is a pipe dream since Square Enix abandons and sells all of their IPs, at least until there's a good publishing company and very passionate while competent dev team with lots of $$$ to buys out Deus Ex IP for it
Sorry for a bit long rant, but it's infuriates me as someone that once plays all of the three games (invisible war excluded, although that game is quite good for modern standards of video games, it was a really bad deus ex game), all due to Square Enix executives' short-term minded due to the fuelling to greed, at this point Mihoyo have bigger potentiality to buy Deus Ex IP

@@zakaryrichmond396 yeah you're right the story couldve been at least mid had it been executed differently
Supposedly, the final game is unrecognizable from what the team initially pitched, so make of that what you will.
