  • In This Episode, Sayu Rinpoche returns to Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina from Rosario, Santa Fe via long distance bus, including checking out the most expensive fare type: Cama Ejectuivo. Once arrived in Buenos Aires, Sayu quickly passed by the Retiro neighbourhood - the barrio with a bad reputation for being unsafe & where the Retiro Bus Terminal, as well as one of the largest shanty towns / slums in Buenos Aires - Villa 31 is located. After checking into the hotel in the Microcentro neighbourhood, Sayu begins his exploration of Buenos Aires by visiting a grand cultural centre (Kirchner Cultural Centre) famous for its elegant architecture. It was once the headquarters of the Argentine national postal services & the Eva Perón Foundation. Today, it's home to the Argentine Symphony Orchestra, an amazing Modern Arts gallery, and has many programs that the Porterños can participate. But the question is : who gets to participate?
    Places visited in this episode:
    - Terminal de Ómnibus Mariano Moreno (Rosario Bus Terminal). We also reviewed the journey on a Cama Ejectutivo class seat & comparison with the Semi-cama seats.
    - Estación de Retiro (Retiro Railway Station & Bus Terminal), right next to Villa 31, one of the largest shanty towns in Buenos Aires
    - Torre Monumental (Tower of the English) - Built in honour of the English community in Buenos Aires in the 1900s.
    - Edificio Kavanagh (Kavanagh Building)
    - Centro Cultural Kirchner (Kirchner Cultural Centre) - Formerly Correo Central de Buenos Aires where the national postal service was headquartered at. Today it's one of the largest cultural centres in the world. Featuring the National Auditorium (Home of the Argentine National Symphony Orchestra), Sala Eva Perón (Reconstruction of Eva Perón's old office at the Eva Perón foundation), and an amazing Modern Arts Gallery.

    how many prejudices....
    let's clarify:
1-"shantytowns"' (I wouldn/t define them that way since these homes have all the basic services: running water-sewer-electricity-internet and r in a perfect state of maintenance, taking into account that "beggarliness" is housed in that place). in Buenos AIres gives a clear idea that what Argentina considers ""beggarliness" what other countries consider lower class...
2 surface area occupied by shantytowns is tiny: 1.3% of the total surface area of the city (2.6 Km2 in 205 Km2 of Buenos Aires) and they r also being urbanized, transforming them into regular neighborhoods (the remaining undeveloped area represents around 0.5% from the city)
    and now the relevant thing:
the fact that you didn;t find people of very low social class is explained by:
    in Argentina
-all minors under 18 years old receive monetary income just for being Argentina's resident
-also receive it between 18 and 30 y.o., in the case they r studying
-all those over 60 y.o, also receive retirement pensions
therefore, it's unlikely that u saw a massive number of beggars anywhere, not only in Buenos Aires, but in Argentina.
In the case of homeless (there r about a tiny 2.5K considering that the population of Buenos Aires is 17M inhabitants) they r people affected by drug consumption and although the City government offers them shelters, some hundreds of them refuse them. , due to their state of addiction and obviously they aren't habitués of cultural spaces...
    and finally:
just as u didn;t have any restrictions on entering the Cultural Center, Argentines even less do, taking considering that the president who financed the construction of that Cultural Center (Cristina Kirchner) was the one who granted all the social benefits that I listed above.
