Excellent review even 7 years later. Bought the 80 ohm and absolutely love them. The bass is there...but tight as you said and sounds excellent. The highs are there as Beyerdynamic is known for, but not as bright. I'm listening to a lot of albums that I know inside and out, and it's like listening to these albums for the first time all over again. Thanks for the review as it helped me move away from the ATH 40x and 50x. I needed this...
"I'm listening to a lot of albums that I know inside and out, and it's like listening to these albums for the first time all over again". I felt like that after buying my 30 dollar Tribit Xfree Tune lol
Good to know you are enjoying it. But I couldn't. It was very sibilant, trebles were piercing my ears. So bright. So bassy. Very V-shaped headphone. Excellent for a 2 hour movie watching, but then fatigue will set in. Anyone looking for a neutral headphone should look elsewhere.
Guess I'm just lucky killer then, anyway I'm not a 'audiophile' at all. I just have a good taste on music. B-] But now we are on it;(excuse me man) DT 770(just that one regardless type/year) AKG K 550/553 or A900X ? Yep, I know, too much differences etc but, just give me one mate. (listining ao; TOOL Melvins to 'alternative folk' like Bonnie Prince Billy etc. (excuse me for rambling) I think its a good thing among others, that you are honest and brave enough to change your 'mind/feeling' about things. Last question; what kinda music/sounds you like ? Hulde,(thats old an old dutch word for a very good thing)
+nightgoat melvins I like all 3 but if I had to have one, probably the A900X just because it's the most unique. For me the main two genres are hardstyle and metal
I thought you would, I can buy one for 100 euro including shipping. But I just bought the 770. If I recall it well you had some mixed feelings about the A900X after all.(I am not asking for more info;) Somewhere I've read the build quality is not to great. Anyway, thanks a lot, keep on moving, eat and drink good stuff and be well. Later, Eus
THESE WILL RUN OUT OF A PHONE, BUT WONT GET VERY LOUD. I get a lot of questions about amping requirements. You need at least a low power amp (like a FiiO K3) to get these to above normal listening volume. This applies to the 80 ohm version only. 250 ohm absolutely requires an amp and I'd recommend a JDS Atom for that at least. Seeing as this video has become so popular, let me just point out here that I still hold the same opinion - for the unit that I reviewed in this video. I own another one of these now that DMS reviewed and while I still think it's a uniquely great option, the sound is indeed fairly sibilant and bassy. The K371 is more accurate FR wise but loses on soundstage, build quality, and comfort.
metal571 are the DT250 80 Homme the same as these headphones just differently branded? I have two pairs of those that I have had since 2002 LOL, like thanks apart from the cable they can withstand anything Seeing as I have thoroughly gotten into this expensive hobby, I definitely don’t need two of those LOL, if interested I can send you one of them. I’m pretty sure the different headphones but I don’t know where I read it that they were the same just differently branded
Interesting, then on the one who is mistaken in that case, yea Dt250 they take the same concept as the one you’re reviewing, close back, stu do you use for monitoring, that’s where I usually use that most of the time for mixing and editing audio recordings through college and university. Very very neutral pleasing sound astonishingly good imaging stereo separation for a close back,. Though the bastards do need some serious power to drive them, if interested I can send you one of my spares for review if you like. Like I said they built like a tank every part can be replaced and I’ve been using them literally for the last 15 years non-stop.
David Ekstrom Each of us can have a subjective definition of loudness :) 125db is definitely louder than 96db. Anything beyond 96db can lead you to a danger zone and can affect your hearing in a long term, especially if you intend to use them for extended hours. Since, I have not experienced T70’s I will stick to what DT770’s have to offer. These headphone are very comfortable if you want to use them for long hours. The omnidirectIonality and sound-space is very good. It feels like you are listening to music in an open space or a large room. You can easily pick where the sound is coming from. These are loud enough, they reach the uncomfortable levels on peak volume without any sound distortion. The bass is just right (it is natural and sounds how its supposed to without any artificial augmentation.) - You cannot go wrong with these. T70’s are about three times the price so they must be better in built and sound. What I know is that they are more analytical, which is good if you are using them in a studio setting for recording or editing music.
David Ekstrom You must not be reading the specs right, sensitivity is not the same thing as maximum SPL. T70s are not better, in fact a lot of the Tesla driver headphones Beyer makes are worse than their classic drivers.
Just bought these headphones the other day, and your review of them is what pushed me to make the decision. So thanks! I've listened with them for around nine hours now, and I'm very happy with them. They are my first closed back headphones, and after getting through the first claustrophobic moments, I can say that they are the best ones I've had yet. Great for listening to all kinds of music, and playing games. I love the clarity, and I don't usually crave for boomy bass, which these don't deliver.
@@driftboard any feedback? Merry Christmas 🙂. I'm so conflicted because on rtings they say these(80ohm) don't do well in the bass without an amp and I'm now eyeing the AKG k371 but the promised Soundstage of the Beyer and perhaps good bass has me stuck between a rock and a hard place. I've got a fiio m3pro wich can work as a usb dac and amp using its quad dac found in LG high end phones though im not sure that's enough.
Listened to your advice and picked these up as an upgrade to my ATH-M50s and I'm very happy with the decision! I'll be tuned in to hear more of your recommendations :)
I just bought a set of ATH M50x BT2 the git a great sound is it me or do you think the lack volume , I tried many eq but last volume for me I got a 50 bucks set off Amazon called Tuiny and I kid you not the are very close in sound but have a tiny bit more bass and over all volume ,I was think of bringing back my ATH-M50S BT2 ,want more power my 370 bucks I play off my ipad and phone alot any recommendations ??? The might just do it
Lovely detailed review. I bought new pair, been using them for over a week, literally rediscovering my music over many genres. Best of all I have not encountered any sibilance in the treble....
Your review videos are addictive. Your laid back style is very unique, and you pack your review videos with a ton of information. I just ordered these headphones after researching for several days, and I can't wait until they arrive on Monday. I record with an old school 8 track Tascam mk2 488 cassette format, and I think these are going to be a perfect fit. Thanks for all the great info 571. I feel very confident about this purchase, and I'm very glad I found your channel.
Bought a pair of these after watching your review. I'd say they're pretty much exactly as you described them. Good for tracking, but also a fun headphone (esp. in the bass) for listening when I don't want to annoy people around me. Would love to see a review of the DT 1350.
I just found your channel and I really like you. Too many reviewers nowadays are sellout salesmen who only say good things about the products. I like the honest, plain-old-joe reviews.
+metal571 What do you think of the NVX xpt-100 or the brainwavs hm5? Everyone says they sound really neutral. I have them and to me it seems like they have A LOT of treble and arent balanced.
Just purchased a pair of these based on your review. Amazing you are spot on. I only wish I had heeded your advice on the Sennheiser Momentum a total disappointment lifeless... the only issue I have is with the fatigue in my cheeks from the permanent smile the DT770’s have put on my face... thank you
Although these headphones are considered to be closed back, the rear chamber isn't sealed because they are bass reflex. That's probably why they perform similar to open back headphones.
Thorough, descriptive, intelligent, but laid back and easy to understand why the DT770's are still so good to this day. I subscribed awhile back after watching this review, but came back and watched it again. I know you did this review all the way back in 2014, but this review is the reason I finally just put down for these cans in 2021. LE version of these, with black velour pads. Thank you man.
Hopefully you end up enjoying it. I still have a pair but not this original one I reviewed, and the K361 and K371 have significantly surpassed it in the frequency response tuning, but the soundstage, comfort, and build keep me coming back to the 770
@@metal571 Thank you for the reply back. I've considered the K371's or even the 61's as well, they certainly have a more 'modern' form factor per say, with the mini XLR jack, a BT option, and all-around aesthetic. And I've been aware they sound pretty great too, but... I guess I've just lusted after the DT770's and, as you note, their particular soundstage for far too long, to turn back now. P.s. I realize you're not doing this anymore. And as your last upload was 2019. I hope whatever new endeavours you are attending yourself to have been both enjoyable and profitable for you. All the best!
Great and genuine review which is very rare these days.. Really happy with these cans. In your other videos you made an important distinction between the 80 Ohm and 250 Ohm versions, the harsh and sibilant sound of the 250 Ohm. That kinda clarified my doubt about the 250 Ohm and made me buy the 80 Ohm. Thanks a lot...
Was going to get DT-150/250ohm but these are on sale for just over 130 bucks. I love this 80ohm version sound signature, it's got a lively sound signature without being harsh, mid range is superb and really punchy bass. It sure doesn't feel like a close back headphone at all and to top it off, comfort/fitment is supreme.
Got the 250 Ohm version.. Worth the price, just for the comfort alone... For clarity, they're not neutral. The upper range is bright. The lower range is clear and deliberate. However, they provide a good round "honest best friend" tone. Good review.... If you get chance to check out the 250 version - it's worthwhile.
Bought these after watching this and love them. Prefer their sound to my V-moda m100s and on sound and comfort they piss all over the M50 x(now sold) You and z are the only reviewers I trust with regards to sound quality.
I feel mixed about this review now. The used DT770 80 ohm units I've heard sound just like I described here, but I recently bought a new one and it's a lot brighter. So hopefully you got one of the better ones, sounds like it. Lol
metal571 the one I have is definitely not bright, more like how you describe in the review, treble is smooth even when not equalised and the bass is awesome, must have got lucky, mine is a ltd edition ( black pads) version. 80 ohm sold in Uk.
+Chris Downer maybe I got a dud. But mine is a brand new Pro 80 ohm. Oh well hopefully the sound I described is still being made out there for at least some 80 ohm editions. Should have never sold my old one lol
I picked one of these up based partly on your review - thank you. I found them great overall but with some songs, a bit too enclosed and with bass a bit too hollow (I am used to the open back Grado sound). However then I bought some softer valour pads from eBay (not even branded Beyerdynamic), and now these sound better to me, lost some bass but they are a lot more open, more pleasant and comfortable for longer listening sessions.
I was impressed by the 32 ohm but the 80 ohm blew me away. My pair sounds exactly as metal571 said in the video. The soundstage is wider than my 58x and also it's more detailed. Soundwise they push the bass and the treble to the limit for an audiophile headphone. Very fun sound with thumping bass and sparkly treble. Mids are quite detailed and disconnected by the huge bass. Of course a bit pushed back in the mix but not by a huge margin. For 110 euro here in Italy they are the total package for a closed back. They got: Build quality, comfort, isolation, soundstage, fantastic sound quality. Easily 300 for the sound quality alone. If you take into account all the pro, they are a steal at this price. I had also the Denon 7200, I like the 770 80 better. I highly recommend them!
had mine for over 15yrs and love these cans, read hear all sorts of strange reactions to their sound. i agree with you, theyre amazin ! esp for their price. i recently renewed mine and out of curiousity decided to try the 16ohm versions on my phone. wasnt disapointed. its refreshing to hear a review from someone who understands what sound should be like and is able to express it.
Just ordered these after seeing this review.... I mean I have beats solo 2 so hopefully it's an upgrade! Anyways good video man you've helped me out a lot!
Great review, convinced me to buy some 80 ohm 770s last week! At first I was disappointed by the sound, I was expecting deep bass response as you mentioned right out of the box. But a week later, they're broken in and are like subs on my ears. Thanks!
I'm not a big believer in burn in so maybe you just had to get used to the sound. It's especially the case if you've never had other audiophile headphones before. Very different. Glad you also enjoy in the end
Possibly that I got used to them, and you're right, I never had any audiophile cans either. But at the least the earcups have definitely softened and seal better, and the sound seems to be warmer overall than when they were new
Matt Poon yeah the pads can make a huge difference on beyerdynamics. Keep the pads in good shape. Once they start flattening or yellowing after a year or two, be sure to replace them.
Nice review! I've owned my A900X for 5 years and I love 'em, but now any substantial bass causes them to crackle pretty bad - probably from minor cushion tear, or from a damaged driver. I got the 770 Pro 250 Ohm from Massdrop for $130, can't wait to see how they compare to the A900X. I'm mostly hoping for better noise isolation since I plan to use 'em for my electronic kit, and I don't want to hear much of my strikes on the drum pads.
Excellent details you talk about here.. I love open headphones but I am now finding myself wanting a closed set for the days the AC kicks on in the room.. and for late night listening without bothering others. Great review and the things you point out are valid. Thank you !
Great review, very knowledgeable and you covered a lot of details clearly that a lot of other reviewers leave out. I just got these at their lowest ever price on Amazon at 143 USD, looking forward to hearing them.
+metal571 Yea I'll be most likely be selling my pair ATH-M50x's when these come, I'm not a big fan of those either. Been searching for a quality pair of closed back cans to use at work, I went back to using IEM's because the Audio Technicas were so fatiguing.
@@metal571 Just got them today. They are waaay different that the Audio Technica ATH-M3X I had prior. The sounds are 100x more realistic. I am using it for a Roland electronic drumkit and sadly it doesn't have any bass/treble adjustments. I was forced to mess with each individual drum sound but I am not able to really EQ it per say. Any suggestions for a small inline EQ that I could use to adjust the headphones? Thank you
You are so right in the review, except one thing. I bought recently these cans and the sound is really so amazing and enjoyable, BUT it's so pity that they can't go really loud, (the 80Ω version), because a distortion starts getting anoying. But then again the quality of the sound is so rewarding. Thanx for reviewing anyway!
I was on the fence between getting the DT770 Pro and the ATH M50X. Both your reviews really helped, since you adressed exactly the issues I was worried about. Great job. Informative, detailed, objective and with performance in mind. DT770 it is.
Could not agree more, DT770's are awesome. I have the 80-ohm versions too, what a nice pair to begin (like me) the journey of good headphones. HD600 and LCD-2 have some more ear-time nowadays, but these are still the ones I pick when recording tracks. I just listened to these for a few tracks, man they sound nice, still.
Really good and detailled review! I can truly confirm those facts..i love this pair of headphones from the first day i used it..since it sounds absolutely stunning and amazing for a closed-back design..i used the Audio Technica ATH-M50x before and wasn´t really satisfied since they sound very confined and narrow in sound stage compared to the Beyerdynamic. And the bass is also much more intrusive and less precise than this one...not to mention the wearing comfort, which is simply awesome at the Beyerdynamics..you can wear them for hours and hours without any discomfort..
I bought the 770 Pro 80Ohms and now the 990 Pro and although I loved the 990 Pro, when I first tried a Beyer headphones for the first time in my life, I now think that the 770 Pro 80Ohms version is the best out of all "trios" out there. It has not a lot of exaggerated treble like the 990 and I hear that the 880 also has this "issue", the mids are spectacular like you said and the bass goes down the sub-bass with such a CLEAR sub-bass that adds a lot of natural presence to a song, that I will send the 990 back and forever keep the 770 80Ohms! The 990 Pro has too much treble - it is NICE to hear that on laid back songs, of the 90s-00s, like George Michael - As, Whitney, Mariah and all those down-tempo love songs. For those kind of songs and music, the 990 is a blessing (although, I miss some mids in the vocals, that the 770 can so wonderfully deliver). BUT, if you are a guy like me that listens mostly to aggressive music, like Hip-Hop and up-tempo "bassy", yet not to "bassy" stuff and now and then laid back songs, THEN the 770 Pro 80Ohms IS THE BEST in the Beyer house! (Of course, I am talking about the under 200 Dollars/Euros price tag). If you want headphones to JUST abuse and listen to them with pleasure and throw them on the table (which I am not doing, but it is the feeling that I could do that) and do not care about scratches or that they will not look like new anymore, if you want some rough looking and feeling headphones, that deliver a great sound and beats so many other headphones (aham... "Beats" and all that crap) way more expensive than these, then 770 Pro 80Ohms ALL DAY LONG! Those headphones are so humble and don't strike any fancy marketing stuff and designs at you, they... are like an old loyal dog: it does not seem that he can still bark out loud or bite through your flesh, but.... maaaaan, those night burglars sure do now how to jump fences like at the Olympics, when this bad boy comes out of his little house! :) THANK YOU, that you helped me a lot in my purchase decisions and upgraded my music listening/-producing experience!
yeah the 990 pro always felt like treble murder to me. i still have a 770 80 ohm and i use it all the time because it's so comfy, and that bass, like you said
I keep coming back to these! So I gifted myself with a pair of DT770 Pro 80 Ohms last year November as a 47th Birthday gift to self. I had been wanting to foray into the audiophile realms again since leaving it way behind me well over a decade ago - having given away most of my gear and records - silly me. I bought them online from a distributor here in South Africa, where I live, and at first I was taken aback when I first began to listen to them - and not in a good way. They were harsher and less forgiving than I had first expected. Vocals were quite sibilant, mids felt quite recessed, and the bass was too clinical. So I had buyers remorse. Perhaps the fact that I was listening to these un-amped plugged straight into my headphone jack listening to iTunes on my MacBook Pro was the fist booboo. I was not impressed. Also being 80 Ohm, the Mac’s internal amp doesn’t do this justice. Then I began to experiment with the audio players - Vox, Fidelia, Audirvana… and things started to sound better. Eventually I settled on Amarra Luxe Pro, which is buggy as hell, but boy does it make these Beyers sound so sweet. Yes, the burn in is real. It needs time to settle in and then those highs are not so high anymore, the bass flows like gravy, and the mids soothe you into other realms. Recently I added an iFi Zen Dac to my setup and I can honestly say that these DT770’s are now heavenly, and my daily drivers. The iFi Zen Dac is quite a little wonder, it takes some the harshness off the highs, and adds a warmth and clarity to everything you plug into it. My Grados, Koss’s, Klipsch’s, Hifimans and JBLs sometimes make an appearance depending on my mood - but I keep coming back to these Beyers. They’re like the most comfortable pair of loafers you own - ear loafers. And they surprise me every day with their musical range. I have not compared them to much more expensive headphones - my wallet will not allow it. So remember, if you’re gonna buy a set: burn the hell out of them, and make sure you amp/dac them to get the best out of them. You'll probably be disappointed without both these things. Stay home & stay safe everybody.
Nice man. Yea I'm a fellow south African. Waiting on my delivery to arrive. Also got a amp👍. Any advice on burn in? Never had quality headphones like these. Any tips would be awesome
@@richardsteyn3403 Howzit bru! Good choice with the Beyers :). Yes, I'd advise burning these in for at least 50 - 100 hours. I use mine for music listening and video-conferencing - I'm not a musician or sound engineer - which these are normally marketed to. I own a few other hi-fi grade headphones, like Hifiman planar magnetics, and these still make my day. Also if you're streaming music via Deezer or Tidal - opt for the options where FLAC files are streamed as the DT770s really can pick out differences between lower to higher resolution digital music sources - especially when amped. And if you're listening to MP3s and FLACs from your hard-drive, then I recommend you play them through Amarra Luxe Pro or Audirvana - much better for audiophiles. iTunes on my MacBook Pro sucks for general audiophile quality music reproduction - and you can hear the difference on these headphones. I found the clamp-force on my ears a little too-strong for my liking - so I stretched out the headband a bit and it fits like a glove, I wear mine most of the day when I'm working from home in lockdown mode. But you might not have that same clamping issue. Anyway, I'm rambling on. Good luck, and hope you enjoy them :)
@@rohanreddy3427 shots man. Yea I'm just a music enthusiast. Will be using TIDAL music app. I did opt for the version with the hi fi quality and also master quality on some songs, I'm assuming that will be the FLAC files? Also got a headphone amp to them up. Great man. I'll let you know how the go. Thanks for the reply 💯👍
@RohanReddy, thanks for the detailed insights, where did you buy your ifi dac, I also live in SA, but looks like the suppliers are limited on ifi products. thanks man
I've been using the dt770 80 almost every night for two years with a mid range gigabyte motherboard built in dac and find them great. The only thing i may do is replace the pads this year as they have squashed down a bit overtime and aren't quite as comfy/cushiony as they were. I've only compared them to some wired bose headphones which had overpowering bass compared to the beyers more tight bass. I was wearing them on the train a while ago and a sound engineer across the carriage started talking to me about them, aswel as his stax headphones (which he wasn't wearing) :) Nice review :)
Hey metal. Thank you very much for this great and detailed review, it's rare to find such quality analysis from a fellow audio fan. It definitely weighted on my decision to purchase the DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm. From everything you described, it seemed like the perfect Headphone that was looking for, and it was! Crisp crystal clear on highs, good mids, lows that are ready to boom when the source orders it to, just a great balance of enjoyment, colored, but that was exactly what I was looking for, after more than an year on a ATH M50 alone, which is really flat, great for audio editing, but I wanted more, for games, music and movies. I needed some color. I can't come back to the ATH now after having the DT on my head haha. Instrument separation is just superb on the DT 770 Pro, such fullness of detail everywhere. I like how accurately you describe Headphones on your reviews, it was exactly what you said, so, I'll put further trust in your other videos. I think we share a similar taste in audio, because of this, after I saw your review of the AKG Q 701, that will be my next investiment in the future, seems like a dream. Again, thank you very much for this review, it was truly helpful to me. I was kinda lost between choices, but not anymore after your review. I still want the HD 598, but it can wait until I get my hands on the Q 701 first. I have two questions: 1) What is the best Headphone to this day that you judge to have the best soundstage bellow the 300 price range, that you've experienced? 2) What are you thoughts on the ATH M50 compared to the DT 770 Pro? As I described, I find the DT to have more color, more instrument separation, more bass, and brighter treble, more fitting for games, movies and music listening than my old M50. Thank you. Best regards.
Thanks for the kind words. Too many reviewers just don't describe sound accurately despite having potentially even better trained ears than I do, which is sad. Glad I could help. I don't know about best soundstage under 300, best isn't the word I'd use to describe each of the mid-fi trio, but I'd say the Q701 has the widest soundstage with a bit of a hole in the center image and also less distinct imaging and direction. The DT880 isn't as wide as the Q701 but has much better imaging. The HD 600 has the smallest but it also has excellent imaging and when told to go "wide" the soundstage can really open up on it. It's quite reactive to the recording. To answer your last question, I never liked the M50. It always sounded terribly narrow in soundstage and the pads were never quite big enough to be comfortable over long periods. Combine that with the price they're going for nowadays and they're quite a poor value IMO. The DT770 is quite a fun bass cannon by comparison but at least it has awesome comfort, better speed, and really good imaging and an actual soundstage unlike the M50.
Oh also the 598 is very good for the money. Very flat and boring though. One of, if not the most, uncolored headphones in its price range. The HD 600 is a direct upgrade over it and I still feel strongly that the HD 600 may just be the most neutral open headphone in history.
metal571 Thanks for answering and the overall feedback. Yeah, the M50 was very uncomfortable and not even close to the DT's big round velour pads, which surprisingly, has a solid isolation. And thanks for describing the imaging! So useful again.
I can only afford one pair. I need a capable headphone for tracking Rock vocals and reference monitoring. Are these 770 pro's not capable enough for both tasks ?
Just wanted to say thanks. I've been using an M40X for a few years now. The hinge just broke, and while I try to 3D print a replacement I figured I'd order a better set anyway. Hearing an objective "better than" statement after reading through pages of forum semantics was enlightening. I look forward to trying these out.
Thanks, I watched your review on those, but was scared off by some people online complaining about the sub par longevity. Although, I would much prefer to have the removable cable. I anticipate installing a minixlr connector or something similar at some point, because I've never had an audio jack last much longer than a year under daily use.
I know your comment is old, but Pro 80Ohms vs Pro 32Ohms is very different actually. They have both the same tonality (V shape) but the 80Ohms is very much bass boosted, while the 32Ohms significantly less so. The treble in the 80Ohms is also quite more painful. The 80Ohms is also significantly more sibilant. The only advantage of the 80Ohms version is the soundstage, which is much wider and the velour pads.
I was very surprised after hearing the 80Ohms version and getting the 32 Ohms one. Quite different, with the 32Ohms being much more balanced. You do loose that soundtstage though, but other than that it's better. I guess the best version out there gotta be the Pro 250Ohms one or the (rare) 600Ohms version, both of which share the tonality of the 32Ohms version, but do have soundstage to them. We can say that the 80Ohms one is the "black sheep" variant, cuz of that odd tuning, that's different to the rest of the versions.
Sorry to sub so late, I've been browsing the comments and read someone saying you nolonger post much 💔, I've just concluded my search for these with your video(which I've watched many times doing research). I am slowly saving up for these and hope that the sound tuning hasn't changed by now in 2021 or has atleast changed for the better(80 ohm) . Thank you for making this video🙂🙏🏾, hopefully I'll find my lifetime audio companion in what you recommended. 🇿🇦Take care.
The Beyer treble strikes again yep, good review, not 'laid back' to me quite fierce in the highs, but for a closed back it has its uses like checking low bass in a mix.
Yeah some of the newer ones are about as bright as the 250 ohm now, apparently. I have an older one now that's like the one I'm reviewing here. Still bright, but tolerable. About as bright as anything I'm willing to listen to, just like DT880 as well
dude thanks alot for this review! my 4 year old cheap headphones are starting to give up (had to change cable like month ago, and new one is thin and left ear is cutting out in certain angle, also glued leather back together since one of earcup leather was starting to come off), and looked local audio shop prices and these are only 136€, which is about what i am looking to buy headphones for. this video helped me decide alot! i listen like only EDM music and bass is needed.
how flat is the frequency response? how do they compare to audiotechnica athm50x? I need new monitoring headphones for producing my current ones havve macx input 1600mW , these only have 100mW ?...
@@metal571 I use them to check my track and i mix on my yamaha HS7 .... I have try the DT880 but to much "250-300Hz" and to much treble for me ... I love the sound of the DT770. All things i can't hear on my HS7, i can hear with the dt770 ...
@@metal571 Which headphones WOULD you recommend then for music production around the same price point? Edit: I produce Dubstep and EDM by the way, thus why I was considering this one.
Lol have you ever seen the Boondocks take on that? Samuel L Jackson actually does the voice-over again, but it sounds slightly different. In some ways I actually think it's funnier than the original.
Just want to add something about the bass on these headphones. Yes, in stock form they do have a bit, just a bit of a bass boost, but I don't find them to be a bass-head headphone, and would NOT recommend them to people because of their bass, because they're still FAR FAR FAR away from having the amount of bass that some really popular basshead headphones have, like some of the JVC models, Audio Technica 700Pro's, hell even Beats Studio 2.0. I see them as fairly neutral headphones plus a bit of extra sub bass. Good for people who want a bit of extra kick, but still want an accurate headphone. However, it suffers from the same problems as all DT line Beyers, and that is the fact that the drivers are basically as they are out of the box, and they can't take EQ very well, meaning if you really want to turn them into bass-head headphones, you won't be able to do it. They don't have a lot of headroom and it's quite easy to make it lose control and make it sound boomy, even audibly distorted even when just boosting the bass by 3-4 db, and that's when plugged into an amp that could theoretically power 10 of them at the same time with a power output of over 2W into 80 ohms. In fact, my T1's have quite a bit more potential for bass even though out the box they have less bass than DT770's, just because the T1's driver can take HUGE amounts of power and can output an incredible amount of volume in the bass area without any distortion, whereas the DT770's can't, or they can, but then they strongly affect the mids, they don't have the resolving power to separate that bass from the mids, even though unlike most closed headphones they don't have a mid-bass bump, but rather a flat mid bass and then a boost below 80 hz. So, great bass for people who like neutral cans but want a bit more punch, but not good for bassheads. In fact, if you want a bassy headphone in that price range ( and good mids, and good smooth highs, and even better soundstage and imaging than DT770) get the Sennheiser HD380 Pro's, because they sound similar to DT770's, but have far more sub bass and can take a much bigger boost. In fact, they're about +10db on 30 hz compared to 100 hz. That means the mid bass is tight and punchy, but they have that sub-woofer like bass, controlled, tight, etc. Another headphone that comes to mind in that range is the Sony MDR-1A, slightly more expensive, but it can take +20 bass boost that starts at 150 hz and slowly peaks at 30 hz...I shit you not, those drivers in those Sony's are indestructible, If I put them on the table with earcups folded flat, so that the plastic part lays on the desk and the earpads look up, the headphones actually rattle on the desk when playing a 40 hz tone, but they don't distort and still sound pristine.
+KleenexDirty that teens dont want them is a good thing, they love razer and beat/dr dree phones. and then i think this ones sound good regarding the video here to
I agree about the bass - it is potent, but has no midbass bump, a rather flat bass response, which is a good thing. And the amount isnt that enormus. It reminds mi very much of the bass of Momentums rev1 over-ear. Sounds almost the same. Same amount, same flat characteristic, same good sub-bass, same feeling that the deeper it goes the more prominent it becomes :). Only difference is that momentums has it even tighter and better controlled, while dt770pro has a bit more overwhelming bass sensasion due to their sheer size. But is is not a basshead headphone, I agree. It is still very beyer-neutral with just a great deep bass responce and not as much of a withdrawn in the midsas others (like dt990)
+KleenexDirty Well, the Beats Solo 2 is actually an excellent headphone for people who want a bassy sound with really good quality sound. I'm not kidding, Solo 2 has NOTHING to do with what most people think about Beats headphones. They're drivers are really high quality, you can EQ them as you wish, they're very detailed, resolving, transparent. In many ways the best sounding closed back on-ear headphone for the money.
I did indeed pal, still after all the reviews I've watched/read these are the pick of the bunch and best bang for your buck. I'll let you know how mine sound when then arrive on Saturday.
+Bilko they're great cans, I'm just extra treble sensitive. Clearly many people love them for good reason. Also depends a lot on what genres you listen to and your preferred sound signature for those genres
Headphones arrived this morning they sound absolutely fantastic!! Very pleased with them mate. Can I pick your brains on a tech question?? I've got my PC linked up to my yamaha AV receiver and my monitor audio speakers, when I use the audio from the HDMI from my PC I noticed that it is not as loud as the audio that comes from my optical out from my PC?? I've checked all the volumes on all the settings on the PC and receiver and everything is normal. Is this simply due to encoding or is it maybe something else??
Hello again metal571. I just wanted to let you know I recently bought the DT770 80 ohms and tell you how much I really appreciate your awesome and accurate review which was the only reason I bought them in the first place. What do I think about them? They are freaking awesome!! They're just perfect!! built like a tank, super comfy and incredible lows, mids and highs!! I mean, what else is out there that comes even close to these awesome headphones at that price point?? Thanks man, you simply rock!
@@metal571 I just saw... back to the drawing board... It's so hard to choose on a limited budget. I can't justify over 200$ for a hobby... any suggestions?
So close to buying these today. Had a demo on just about everything, but the Custom one pro plus just edged in as the winner. 770's just sounded too neutral for me and nothing really popped, neither the highs or the lows. COP sounded just as good but with much better base. Hooked it up to the most powerful amp they had in the store and it blew the 770's out of the water at high volume. I found the COP more comfortable than the 770's too. Actually, probably the most comfortable set I've ever tried. Ordered the silver velour pads off of the 770 to go on the COP as I'm not really a fan of leather. 770's were definitely nice though, but lack of a double-sided cord and ugly cups weren't a selling point either.
Great review as always, you tell us what we want to know (& no nauseous video editing) we trust you!! I've always mixed & mastered with my Neumann KH120 monitor speakers, but I keep needing monitor headphones for when I'm on the road, something comparable in terms of sound balance to my monitor speakers, that can be driven either from my MacBook Pro or MOTU Ultralite interface, and don't cost a fortune. After a ton of research I settled on Yamaha's 40mm HPH MT5's (which have a touch more bass and mid than the very flat 45mm HPH MT8), I suspect the MT5 is of similar hardware as the ATH-M30X & ATH-M40X - there's certainly similarities in the outer build. After 100hrs of burn-in (the highs were metallic and bass recessed out of the box) they now sound full and detailed, though maybe as expected from a closed-back not immense 3D. It'd be great if you could review the HPH MT5's as I'd be curious to hear in your vast experience how you think they stack up. Anyway I'm looking at acquiring an extra set of 'monitor' headphones to gain another perspective on my mixes, especially something that will reveal what's going on at the low end - so I'm not surprised when I hear loads of sub that I missed from the MT5's. My sound 'taste' while not wanting to hear colour, or wavy EQ, is biased to hearing bass when it's present, detailed separated non-resonating mids and non-metallic treble. Do you think the DT770 80ohm could be the ticket? - or is there anything else newer that's come along. I read the Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 are ok, but maybe too bright? (BTW just for the hell of it, to hear a 'consumer' headphone I bought the Philips X2's, ok they had a deep wallowing bass, but everything seemed a bit dead to my ears, treble was softened, but then spiked up in the hiss white/noise range - odd, didn't like the massive velour pads either, sent them back. I prefer pleather pads but would concede to dirty velour if the sound is right).
+Julian Simmons yeah the X2 isn't very detailed and it definitely packs a bass punch that's unnatural as well as having some oddly off color treble. My first recommendation for audio engineers needing a closed back mixing and mastering headphone is always the AKG K553 nowadays. It is also known as the K550 mk2 in places outside the US. I would snag one of those and see what you think. I find it overall unusually uncolored for a closed back from 20-20k sounding quite like a monitoring speaker. The DT770 is a lot more colored and bright. Also see my pinned comment on this video. But really, the 770 is better as just a monitor for tracking, not a mixing headphone or replacement for monitoring speakers in my experience. Let me know what you think if you get the AKGs, I'm always looking for feedback from people who actually work in the audio industry to double check my ears.
...many thanks for fast reply. I think I may have hit gold with the HPH MT5's. Reviews are so scant, not sure why - maybe Yamaha have lost their street cred? It makes comparisons to other phones all the more difficult. As detailed, fast, flat monitor phones the MT5's could actually be a (currently) hidden gem, I really think you should try and borrow a set of burnt/worked-in one's. They really do need burning in though, I am actually amazed more each day (after 3 weeks) though sound-stage is walled. Anyway just a hint if you happen to see any you can grab. The AKG K553/K550mk2 from what I read are perhaps too mid-centric, possibly good for mix/mastering but the HPH MT5's are 90% close to my monitor speakers, so mainly all good, though lack the bass reality of my (actually flat) monitors. I mainly want to check out the presence of any troublesome low bass in my mix, on 'phones. I don't run a sub in my studio - as although its only purpose is sound, it's a tad too small even with sound preparation to run a sub. Hence I'm looking for a set of bass revealing 'phones - though not to detract from them being accurate. I'm still thinking the DT770 could be those 'other' cans. It's looking increasingly likely I'm going to end up with 3 cans, rather than 2 though! Again many thanks for your good work.
...mmm ok, not sure which you listened to, I can agree the MT7 are wrong, and MT8 too flat, but I still think there's something right about the MT5's. I might snag the AKG's then for comparison (after I push 'seal' them around my ears) ...and maybe the DT770's for bass deliverance. Will let you know.
Ok so I've now had a good deal of critical listening time with the AKG K550MKIII, Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro and Yamaha HPH-MT5. Unfortunately the AKG's were a long way from my monitors - and I do deem my Neumann's to be very tonally accurate and spatial, highly fast/precise and musically balanced (and pleasurable) - more so than any other monitor I've used (I'm including Genelec). What anyone's view is about a headphone (or speaker) any negatives can be taken out of proportion by a reader, and yet negatives and positives must be spoken about. To a significant degree I found the K550's to be slow, confused, muddled and stripped of depth, mids (voice) were pushed into high-mids leaving only a veneer of their original depth, highs were grating and lacked detail, possibly due to over EQing the large slow 50mm driver. Bass was recessed, had little presence. Overall I found these headphones crashy, high-pitched and confused. Maybe I am over critical, but maybe I am, critical. I wanted to like these AKG's, I tried to look around the issues I had, for other qualities, but no, they are not studio reference headphones. Beyerdynamic DT700 Pro, near perfect except for overly sizzling highs and as a result of full (slightly slow) bass, mids seem recessed. Yamaha HPH-MT5, fantastically detailed, broad and detailed mids, super fast and detailed bass - with great tonal separation and impact; although lacking some width in the soundstage these headphones are my choice, as close as can reasonably be expected to my monitor speakers. / Rather than rewriting all my thoughts I'll go ahead and paste a link to a review I've put up on Amazon, it's long... www.amazon.co.uk/review/R3GO5X50ZN3MV4/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm
@@olekolecki6313 Thanks for the quick reply! I can't decide between the two haha. What are you using to power them? And what do you use them for most (Listening to music, gaming, studio production etc)?
They should be nearly identical since as far as I know the custom studio shares the DT770 80 ohm driver but adds an adjustable bass port and removable cable. Not sure why they aren't more popular
Great review, very informative. Pulled the trigger this morning wanting something with more bass extension for monitoring bass guitar during practise sessions. M40x’s just can’t handle my five string in the lower registers so excited to see how the 770’s handle that
That's a really good choice for monitoring. Mostly DT 770 is used for tracking in studios, and for monitoring bass it should excel. I still own one and play electric guitar myself
Great review man! I think I'll going to do a review of the DT-990 Pro 250-ohm sometime soon, and then eventually the STAX SR-009 (Sadly, the only two headphones I own currently). My brother also has a DT-880 or DT-770 (I forgot which model and amount of ohms), as well as a Darth Beyer modified pair (I forgot which model exactly), but I would like to compare them to the DT-990 in a review as well (I also owned the fabulous flagship T1 for a while, so I'll certainly discuss my memories of it compared them to those). Looking forward to more great videos!
Sounds great. I'm listening to my K240 Studio as I type, and I almost though I was going to sell them, but not anymore. Man are they killer for the price, and I'll explain why so stay tuned. I might even shoot that one tonight.
Had to give mine back after a week of use. The treble really was too much for me but the bass was a lot of fun. Getting the a900x now which hopefully gives me a more balanced sound. nice review as always
Was it the 80 ohm? The 80 ohm is much different than the others, quite a bit less treble but I can still see it being bothersome for some people. The 32 and 250 are ridiculous with their treble though
I watched this video about 3 years ago and now building my home studio and just pulled the trigger and got myself a 32 ohm DT-770 Pro-Studio vers (it was half price locally to 80 ohms). Maybe i will change pads in the future, not a fan of fake leather pads. But thank you for the review, always enjoyed your videos btw.
I have the 250 ohm dt770 and have put my Sennheiser hd600 away. The Beyerdamic for me totally obliterate the hd600 in sound and comfort. Dt770 are such a fun sounding headphone that make movies sound marvelous. I am addicted to the sub bass and can't get enough of this fab headphone. Fist headphone that I look forward to using.
The bass on these is heavenly. I use these for gaming. The bass is constant, but is not overwhelming, where it drowns out other sounds. It is puzzling how Beyerdynamic pulls that off.
metal571 It's amazing. They rival my 58x. My SHP9500, not so much. The dt 770 has been on my radar for over a year. After seeing your review, I went ahead and plunged. I got the 80 ohm Limited Edition version. You described these better than any other reviewer of these headphones. I like how you mentioned how they are laid back with the treble. I like the word, reserved. Lol Btw, I had the Fidelio X2HR, but returned them. Heavy. The sound gave me headaches and the velvet pads, made me itch. Smh Btw, what do you think about IEMs? I got the KZ ZS10 Pro.
@@1Dub79 I don't do IEMs at all, not tuned to their sense of price to performance like I am with full size stuff. I repurchased this headphone years after this review and it was both much brighter and less bassy so I'm glad yours turned out to be like my old one. Not sure what happened to the older design this review came from
+GoldyGaming they are super amazing stuff. If they can impress someone who has heard many high end headphones at this point I'm sure you will enjoy them lol
I have been disappointed by "gaming headsets" multiple times in a row now, sound AND microphone quality wise - can't wait for these cans and the blue nessi mic to arrive next week! Nice video btw, liked! :)
I've never had very good headphones and I wanna buy one but I can't decide between the dt 770 pro (80) and the dt 990 pro (250).Which one do you recommend? Sound leaking isn't a problem and there's no noise (except my computer and keyboard)
metal571 Thank you for the answer. I've already seen the video but still couldn't decide. So the soundstage of the dt 990 isn't worth ? I've never experienced open-back headphones
My M40x hinge broke and I have just ordered these.. looking at all the positive comments here as well as on other reviews I cannot wait to hear them(I will be pairing them with my Fiio K3)!
DT770 is THE BEST headphone I have ever owned. I own/owned over 50 headphones... Stax Grado Sennheiser AKG etc all the famous studio headphones. Heck I even own the Dr Dre(adful) DT770 is most comfortable to wear. I can go for 6+ hours straight and not feel much strain in my head/ear. They sound very nice, accurate and pleasant. Perfect price point as well. I also own Bayerdynamics MMX300 which is basically DT770 with built in boom mic. Just as comfortable and very nice sounding. With the microphone I can use it for teleconference and gaming too.
That's good. I wish they were much less bright now. This 80 ohm and another older one were gold, but my new one is much too bright. They still are insanely comfortable however and have an awesome soundstage
My 250 ohm DT770 is about 10 years old. It's well broken in, and it is not bright at all. It's just about Perfect. My Sony MDR7506 (8 years old) is the brightest. AKG K240 (20 years old) is also very nicely balanced. DT770 is PERFECT. DT770 is most comfortable headphone in the world. More comfortable than anything else I've ever used (and I've used hundreds of headphones).
The only issue I ever had was the clamp force. Yours is probably so well broken in that the clamp force is not so great now though new ones tend to hug your head pretty tight. Beyer's own DT880 would be the most comfortable headphone I know of in the price range. The pads are slightly softer than the 770's and the clamp force is very low.
I bought them for 135€ I instantly loved them and moded them. Now i use DT770 250ohm when gaming or when there's people around and my He400i for all the other times i can use them.
Did you consider the 700 pro X? I have trouble finding reliable direct comparison between these.
Unfortunately I still haven't heard the 700X yet myself. Hopefully someday Andrew over at the headphone show will directly compare it to the 770
@@metal571 Thanks for tuning in!
I just bought them, even after your second thoughts.
I'm happy.
You're one of the good guys.
Forward, greetings from Amsterdam.
+nightgoat melvins great I'm glad. I'm hoping that the new one I bought was just the odd one out.
Guess I'm just lucky killer then, anyway I'm not a 'audiophile' at all.
I just have a good taste on music. B-]
But now we are on it;(excuse me man)
DT 770(just that one regardless type/year) AKG K 550/553 or A900X ?
Yep, I know, too much differences etc but, just give me one mate.
(listining ao; TOOL Melvins to 'alternative folk' like Bonnie Prince Billy etc. (excuse me for rambling)
I think its a good thing among others, that you are honest and brave enough to change your 'mind/feeling' about things.
Last question; what kinda music/sounds you like ?
Hulde,(thats old an old dutch word for a very good thing)
+nightgoat melvins I like all 3 but if I had to have one, probably the A900X just because it's the most unique. For me the main two genres are hardstyle and metal
ps and me ain't tripping on da Amsterdam ganja, dig ? ;)
I thought you would, I can buy one for 100 euro including shipping.
But I just bought the 770.
If I recall it well you had some mixed feelings about the A900X after all.(I am not asking for more info;)
Somewhere I've read the build quality is not to great.
Anyway, thanks a lot, keep on moving, eat and drink good stuff and be well.
Later,
Eus
One of the best reviews I've seen of headphones. You have a very likable personality. Great job man :)
Hope the 9 to 5 doesn't wear you down too much
+GamingTaylor yeah I really liked these lol thanks. I'm surviving the work life so far thankfully
@@metal571 is it work with Audient ID Audio interface? 4 please reply.
I have two pairs of those that I have had since 2002 LOL, like thanks apart from the cable they can withstand anything
Seeing as I have thoroughly gotten into this expensive hobby, I definitely don’t need two of those LOL, if interested I can send you one of them. I’m pretty sure the different headphones but I don’t know where I read it that they were the same just differently branded
+Koji G honestly never heard of that version but they do come in 80 and 250 ohms still
Interesting, then on the one who is mistaken in that case, yea Dt250 they take the same concept as the one you’re reviewing, close back, stu do you use for monitoring, that’s where I usually use that most of the time for mixing and editing audio recordings through college and university.
+Koji G I'm really looking more for the 250 ohm model
metal571 I don’t have one of those lying around but if I come across one and it comes into my position, I will send it your way

Thanks :) I bought my 770 pros 80 ohms after watching your review. Got them delivered to me today. I must say that these are pure pleasure to listen.
Thanks glad you enjoy, they really are a blast and I miss my pair.
After watching this video... I guess I made a decision!
Good for you, bruh.
Thanks for saying.
I love the clarity, and I don't usually crave for boomy bass, which these don't deliver.
they just arrived but i have to wait till christmas, but i'm excited
@@driftboard any feedback? Merry Christmas 🙂. I'm so conflicted because on rtings they say these(80ohm) don't do well in the bass without an amp and I'm now eyeing the AKG k371 but the promised Soundstage of the Beyer and perhaps good bass has me stuck between a rock and a hard place. I've got a fiio m3pro wich can work as a usb dac and amp using its quad dac found in LG high end phones though im not sure that's enough.
did you plug them directly into pc or do you have an amp
Do you still recommend them for metal?
@@MegaFabioRocks lol same question, have you tried them now, after a year?
I have tried the k361, k371, dt 700 prox and out of all the dt 770 pro 80 ohm is the best for gaming and general music listening
I just found your channel and I really like you. Too many reviewers nowadays are sellout salesmen who only say good things about the products. I like the honest, plain-old-joe reviews.
+Dennis Ping thanks let me know if you have any questions
+metal571 What do you think of the NVX xpt-100 or the brainwavs hm5? Everyone says they sound really neutral. I have them and to me it seems like they have A LOT of treble and arent balanced.
+Darkon Ookami XPT100? I reviewed the XPT100 and hated it. Super aggressive upper mids. The HM5 I heard in person was a lot smoother.
Subbed, you are without a doubt my favorite headphones reviewer!
Ordered a pair. They sound like what I want in a set of headphones.
Be sure to let us know if you like
Was going to get DT-150/250ohm but these are on sale for just over 130 bucks. I love this 80ohm version sound signature, it's got a lively sound signature without being harsh, mid range is superb and really punchy bass. It sure doesn't feel like a close back headphone at all and to top it off, comfort/fitment is supreme.
Hope you learned by now that there's no difference
Should have never sold my old one lol
metal571 Thanks for reply's and thanks for the informative and impartial reviewing.
Highly detailed review, thank you my good Sir.
Thanks to your review I bought them at Amazon, cheers from Mexico!
I would always recommend these over the M50x, have you seen my review of those? Lol
Where did you buy them from? Every store I found in Europe charges 20euros for delivery.

Does the 80 ohm model sound good on a smartphone?

had mine for over 15yrs and love these cans, read hear all sorts of strange reactions to their sound. i agree with you, theyre amazin ! esp for their price. i recently renewed mine and out of curiousity decided to try the 16ohm versions on my phone. wasnt disapointed. its refreshing to hear a review from someone who understands what sound should be like and is able to express it.
Just ordered these after seeing this review.... I mean I have beats solo 2 so hopefully it's an upgrade! Anyways good video man you've helped me out a lot!
Reece Keeble almost anything should be an upgrade
Androvich lol true
The most plastically explained sound of Beyer headphones. I enjoyed your review. Thx man.
Love your reviews! Super chill.
Thank you !
You sound very passionate about them! Kinda contagious!!
Your reviews are one of the main the reason why I own both a K371 and a DT770-80 ohms. Cheers!
So do I, still to this day. They both have their uses
What is the difference of k371 and DT770? Is a difference of soundstage?
Great review, very knowledgeable and you covered a lot of details clearly that a lot of other reviewers leave out. I just got these at their lowest ever price on Amazon at 143 USD, looking forward to hearing them.
+David Brown I still regret selling mine. Awesome cans, even for those not experienced with "audiophile" stuff
+metal571 Yea I'll be most likely be selling my pair ATH-M50x's when these come, I'm not a big fan of those either. Been searching for a quality pair of closed back cans to use at work, I went back to using IEM's because the Audio Technicas were so fatiguing.
David Brown yeah you can see I was also not impressed with them in my review of those either
You should have so many more subscribers. I love all your reviews and you convinced me to buy some 770 Pros. Thank you!
hopefully you enjoyed them
@@metal571 Just got them today.
How is it?
Also interested to hear what you think
I love using these for gaming. Specifically 80 ohm with a good external microphone! Great setup.

Ze Bubba what amp do you use
Really good and detailled review! I can truly confirm those facts..i love this pair of headphones from the first day i used it..since it sounds absolutely stunning and amazing for a closed-back design..i used the Audio Technica ATH-M50x before and wasn´t really satisfied since they sound very confined and narrow in sound stage compared to the Beyerdynamic. And the bass is also much more intrusive and less precise than this one...not to mention the wearing comfort, which is simply awesome at the Beyerdynamics..you can wear them for hours and hours without any discomfort..
I'm always skeptical about most things, but you are good, subbed
I bought the 770 Pro 80Ohms and now the 990 Pro and although I loved the 990 Pro, when I first tried a Beyer headphones for the first time in my life, I now think that the 770 Pro 80Ohms version is the best out of all "trios" out there.
It has not a lot of exaggerated treble like the 990 and I hear that the 880 also has this "issue",
the mids are spectacular like you said and the bass goes down the sub-bass with such a CLEAR sub-bass that adds a lot of natural presence to a song, that I will send the 990 back and forever keep the 770 80Ohms!
THANK YOU, that you helped me a lot in my purchase decisions and upgraded my music listening/-producing experience!
yeah the 990 pro always felt like treble murder to me. i still have a 770 80 ohm and i use it all the time because it's so comfy, and that bass, like you said
@@metal571 GREETS! Thanks again! Happy vacation

one of my fav reviewers out there ... nice work, bro :-)
I have two questions:
1) What is the best Headphone to this day that you judge to have the best soundstage bellow the 300 price range, that you've experienced?
Hey Atra you think that m50 s are more flat in responce than 770 ?
They are more flat than the 770s. Both are still quite colored though
What an amazing review. Well spoken, my friend!
I can only afford one pair. I need a capable headphone for tracking Rock vocals and reference monitoring. Are these 770 pro's not capable enough for both tasks ?
+Oneby 1 the 880s are unsuitable for tracking, period.
I'm in the same position!
There's also the K361 which sound fantastic although their build quality is not up to par with these
Thanks, I watched your review on those, but was scared off by some people online complaining about the sub par longevity.
Although, I would much prefer to have the removable cable. I anticipate installing a minixlr connector or something similar at some point, because I've never had an audio jack last much longer than a year under daily use.
Any reviews on the 32ohm version vs 80ohm sound wise help
@@stanstaniboy7655 You think I can run the 80 ohms version with my phone and laptop? If you tried, how does it perform? Thanks!

Sorry about that. See the pinned comment
metal571 why are you sorry, I don’t understand? Something wrong with them?
Ah I saw your comment. This is fine actually.

Fantastic review. And great to see there is so much to like about these. Thanks so much for posting.
+KleenexDirty
that teens dont want them is a good thing, they love razer and beat/dr dree phones. and then i think this ones sound good regarding the video here to
I agree about the bass - it is potent, but has no midbass bump, a rather flat bass response, which is a good thing.
Fair play to you pal, What a amazing review!! Finished watching this and then went straight onto amazon to order some. Job done.
+Bilko hopefully you read my pinned comment
+Bilko who knows could just be the receiver settings instead
Should i get these or Sennheiser's HD598?
Both I have both of them and they complement each other well
Very detailed description man! I’ll def be purchasing these over the ATH M50x!!
Im sold buying them now. Thanks for the excellent review.
The way you look at your headphones, wow 🤩
Can I use the 80 ohm model with my iphone?
Benjamin Thompson I've heard you can. I'll tell when my girlfriend's arrive. lol a bit late though
It probably won't get very loud though
Yes you can.
metal571 dumb question: will different apps boost output and quality? or a small amp?
I think I will go with the 80 ohm and iPod.
Great review bro, love the detail and the knowledge. Cheers mate :)
I do believe you have just helped me make my decision! Thank you so much!
just be sure to read my pinned comment about these. old review
@@metal571 I just saw... back to the drawing board... It's so hard to choose on a limited budget. I can't justify over 200$ for a hobby... any suggestions?
@@teddhemmings2403 nowadays my top recommendation is the K550 mk3 or K553 mk2. Same headphone, the latter is just US only
@@metal571 dope! I will research, thanks a million!
@@metal571 bruh...$782?!!, lol
Just bought a pair for $50 off ebay without earpads. Can't wait to experience this
Always a good approach, just add fresh EDT770Vs and you're set
Can you feel them vibrate? im deaf and important for me
sorry 4 dat!!! :(
Thank you so much for the review, bro! I just got mine. Great decision!
-but I will make a mini-XLR mod- (scrapped)
nice video thanks alot subbed for that half-life logo you got me there again dude...
Gotta keep faith
+Julian Simmons heard a line of those Yamahas recently, all of them had something tonally wrong going on. Not so much with the AKGs.
...mmm ok, not sure which you listened to, I can agree the MT7 are wrong, and MT8 too flat, but I still think there's something right about the MT5's.

What buy? Dt770 80ohm or custom studio? Please help? How diffrences have this headphones?
What did you decide in the end?
@@jamesblackwell5294 I bought a Custom Studio. They are great. I have two pairs. :)
@@metal571 Oh great! I think my decision is made then... Thanks for the insight
Philip Seyour Hoffman is alive
I bought these because of this review, I am enjoying them
Great review man!
It was the 80 ohm. Can't imagine what the other versions would have been like.
Lol check out my Beyer group review. It's insane, the amount of treble this brand likes to put into their headphones...
Very good review. You cover very important points!
Pleather is a little warmer, give the EDT770V a shot if you want the classic V shape DT 770 thing
Damn, I guess I need to review my pair too. They deserve it. You are very much on point.
@@anderstegnellgaming9790 Hah, you're patient! I'm pretty much done reviewing hp gear, but cheers for waiting :)
Ze must earn some kind of award. I can't think of too many other names that have been subbed to me almost from the very beginning
@@metal571 Cheers! It was just great while it lasted.
Yeah that's because it doesn't bleed into the lower mids, they tuned it right, and better than the supposed "upgrade" DT1770 lol
metal571 It's amazing.
Not sure what happened to the older design this review came from
@@metal571 I figured you didn't. The ones I have is my first pair. Only $40. Can't see paying the outrageous prices I've seen for some of them. Smh
I have a $20 headset right now, ordered these on amazon and can't wait to be amazed by the sound quality all day with my mouth wide open, haha!
The 990 is way more polarizing, tons of treble. The 770 is a better bet, see my 770/880/990 comparison
metal571 Thank you for the answer. I've already seen the video but still couldn't decide. So the soundstage of the dt 990 isn't worth ? I've never experienced open-back headphones
I have the 880's, I love everything about them except how much they spill and the lack of bass. Also a little hyped in the upper mids and highs.
Excellent review, they are particularly good at low volume.
Great review. This is exactly what I was looking for and was having trouble finding.
Derek Griggs Thanks I actually own the 250 ohm now instead so if you have any further questions just ask
How do the 250 compare to the 32 or 80 ohm?
My M40x hinge broke and I have just ordered these.. looking at all the positive comments here as well as on other reviews I cannot wait to hear them(I will be pairing them with my Fiio K3)!
I still have one. It's the same one I sent to DMS some time ago now but a different unit than originally reviewed here, still sounds the same tho
@@metal571 Happy to hear it!
DT770 is THE BEST headphone I have ever owned.
I own/owned over 50 headphones... Stax Grado Sennheiser AKG etc all the famous studio headphones. Heck I even own the Dr Dre(adful)
DT770 is most comfortable to wear.
Just bought them , out of frustration from poor speaker sound. So excited to use them. Paid $277 direct from maker
