      Lots of parallels in Monk and the Mentalist from the standpoint of personal loss. Monk lost Trudy and clung to her for years and sought to find her killer...never knowing his identity. Somehow though, in Mentalist, the story was more deeply affecting AND more visceral. Jane's pain was more palpable because unlike in Monk, Jane's loss was attributable to his own arrogance.

      Watch Jane's face slowly drop as Kristina speaks. He briefly holds it together as she walks away, then breaks down when he believes no one's looking. Van Pelt does see, and slowly closes the door and walks away to let him grieve in peace. This man is carrying around a lot of grief and guilt.

    how insensitive , selfish, deluded, oblivious, and self-righteous do you have to be to bring up a man's painful memory while being aware that he doesn't believe your psychic power. he's not getting the comfort because he doesn't believe in power, hence your story of meeting his late wife is fake to him but he suffered because you brought up the painful memory. how outrageous.

    I think a lot of people are missing the point, that yes even if the scenario that "your daughter never woke up, she didn't know what happened, she wasn't scared not even for a second" is an unrealistic scenario, for jane it is believeable because it's supposed to be a message from his wife. His wife would know his grief, and would want him to feel at least a little more at ease even if it's not the full truth, and that makes Kristinas message so much more important to him.

    • @smurfyday
      @smurfyday 2 года назад +3

      Nope, you're missing the point. Frye met a ghastly end at the hands of RJ, knowing Jane's experience and repeating the same mistake, shows she's delusional. And Bruno Heller confirmed there wasn't any real psychic on the show, even if he didn't go as far as saying there couldn't have been (on the show... he himself didn't believe). So anyone who thinks there's any truth to Frye's ramblings lack either comprehension or logic.

    How can she just shut the door like that? I just want to give him the biggest hug ever. It was so sad it made me cry as well, i would just walk in there and give him a hug, it was all so sad

    @FenstenSpn She's not evil. She truly believes in what she says. And she and Patrick Jane were dating right before she was kidnapped. Don't be too hard on her, whether you believe in her 'power' or not.

    that was just cruel of her .. did she really think he would now believe she is a psychic when any person in janes position would have tortured themselve with the question if his daughter woke up

    I didn't dislike her as much as some of the commenters seem to do but I dunno how to take this positively. I know I'd appreciate knowing a loved one didn't suffer in their last moments. Granted I can see why this could be seen as an extremely effective emotional nut shot. As much as Jane tries to present himself as the smartest guy in any situation but that exchange just peeled off his defenses.

    You must be thinking of something else. Maybe he had a dream. Can't remember. She was always an infant. Remember, the wife and daughter were dead in the same room. She was a baby.

    @000andreo000 wow. really you're asking that? his wife and daughter were killed a year or two prior to the series beginning by a serial killer named Red John who Patrick mocked on television

    Christina's intentions may be in the right, but this was a stupid thing to do to someone who does not believe in Psychic power.

    I'm conflicted with this scene. Elsewhere Grace argues with Jane over his unbelief in spiritual things and what if his family wanted to speak to him but couldn't because he didn't believe. He now hears that his family are ' speaking' to Frye and not to him. It was a misguided and cruel thing for Kristina to do nonetheless.

    @ganja238 No Patrick proved that that man was named Thomas Carter, an associate of Red John hired to bait Jane. Red John has already killed again in season 4, spurred on by Jane to kill a man who was going to get away with murder. Jane got the murderer to insult Red John on TV...
