This is not necessary truth. People not always need a hug when they feel vulnerable. A character like Jane needs their own space, and he will ask for what he needs. I wonder why Jane wanted Vanpelt to come back later... was he ready to talk about his breakdown with someone!?? If that's the case then Lisbon was really inconsiderate.
I disagree, first at all when did Jane stated he wanted Van Pelt later? Van Pelt asked if she should come later, because is obvious by Jane & Lisbon faces that they were talking something serious. Second, Lisbon is Jane's friend more than her boss, he came clean with her because he knew she was right about asking to tell him to give her an explanation about why this case was important for him. She wasn't expecting this information from him, when she realised Jane's vulnerability, the pain his been true, she understood the message, she didn't push further because she understood how hard was for him to tell her his story. When he said, "I know I shouldn't feel shame about it" but I do", those words indicate that the person doesn't want to talk more about the subject. As a good friend, she just did what she had to do, say thank you for trust her, and respect his pain.
Carolyn Brewer Actually, it wasn't any of her business and I think Lisbon should have respected Jane's privacy. He had apparently not wanted to explain and she had said she wouldn't ask him. But, then she kept on asking anyway. Eventually, she acted mad saying "she stuck her neck out for him" and that she "deserved" to know his personal business. She basically guilted him into telling her something really private. That was unfair to him and rude of her. I felt so bad for him because it was obviously very hard for him to talk about and reveal. Instead of him being made to feel bad and say "I'm sorry I kept it from you." She should've been the one to say, "I'm sorry, I should have trusted you and respected your privacy and feelings." In contrast, there was an earlier episode where Van Pelt had tried asking Lisbon something about her family....Lisbon then got mad and said "we don't talk about our private life in this unit"...and told Van Pelt nothing. Hmmm.
Have you considered the possibility that Lisbon is overwhelmed with this revelation? After all she is not a psychologist. She wasn't prepared for this information. 2. She more than an friend is an officer of the law, what means is if he is going to reveal how he managed to erased that he was locked up in a psychiatrist unit, is something she shouldn't acknowledge because it might bring consequences for both. So was better for her to leave.
@@cest_whatNo, she didn't have to trust him unconditionally. How many times had she and the entire team been pawns in his games? And this time, she hadn't suspected at first that Sophie Miller was connected to such a dark moment in Patrick's life. Lisbon clearly thought that it was just another of Jane's tricks or manipulations. Working with Jane, she had to be prepared for any surprise, so she had every right to demand an explanation from him. This wasn't her curiosity or her interest in his personal life, this was her duty as the head of the investigation and the person responsible for the case and the team. She had gotten herself into trouble too many times because of Jane. But Van Pelt's words really had nothing to do with their current case. Then her remark was really inappropriate. But at that moment she was still very inexperienced and naive, so she can be forgiven.
Ok, sorry fandom...Don't Shoot! I've shipped Jisbon and all...But, this scene hits me differently now. Poor Jane. Tbh, I think Lisbon really needed to respect his requests for privacy sometimes! Some things were just none of her business! Early days. (I mean she even said she wouldn't ask, after he specifically asked her not to this time. But then ovc she went ahead & kept asking anyway) Here, it just feels very unfair to him! (In an earlier ep. when Van Pelt had asked her about her family, she got mad and said they didn't discuss their personal lives/issues in this unit!...yeah...Right.) Ugh. So basically, she resorted to whining like a mad, nosy, jealous schoolgirl to cajole him into telling her what she wanted to know about his private life...making excuses about why she needed/deserved to know, like she "stuck her neck out for him", again etc. blah, blah, blah -_- Well, he didn't hold a gun to her head! If she didn't want to help & do that for him, no strings attached like she'd agreed, she didn't have to! Resorting to emotional blackmail and making him feel guilty and bad about his requests was childish/selfish. I don't think it was absolutely germaine "to the case" that she needed to know this very private, sensitive thing. (that he apparently even went to Herculean lengths to have concealed from his file) Instead of him feeling like he had to say "I'm sorry I kept it from you." Maybe she should've said "Hey sorry, I should've trusted you and respected your privacy"! Ok, rant over, lol. ;)
We don't know he asked her not to ask, only that she initially said she wouldn't, and him later dismissively saying "you don't wanna know." She had to fight another agency for lead, take heat from her boss, go out on a limb for the sake of a woman she didn't know who might have been guilty, and do it all in the dark in spite of working with Jane for years at that point. How was she to know it was so wounding to him when he rarely told her anything, acted glib all the time, and erased his hospital stay from official records? Her frustration was understandable, and Jane paid back her loyalty to him with vulnerability. Patrick is never injured by the demands Lisbon makes on him as a partner: he is stronger when he lets her care for him. Frankly, she yelled at him a lot less than he deserved over the course of the show. She only ever got truly pissed when he wouldn't trust her, and even still had he asked her for the moon we'd all be dead from the impact.

It was a locked room
what does he say at 1:07 ?
Yeah I went through a rough patch, did a little time in the hospital
was she jealous?
yeeahh!Teresa is Angry!
I'm getting sick of Van Pelt always being there in the most inconvenient times!
Like my mother😅
This is one of my favourites scenes. Where Lisbon says "her neck is stupid"? Or it is just joke I can't recognize?
+Kalamity Jane she calls herself stupid using her neck as herself. It's a figure of speech.
That smiley is fucking creepy!!!
Ok, rant over, lol. ;)
We don't know he asked her not to ask, only that she initially said she wouldn't, and him later dismissively saying "you don't wanna know."
She had to fight another agency for lead, take heat from her boss, go out on a limb for the sake of a woman she didn't know who might have been guilty, and do it all in the dark in spite of working with Jane for years at that point.
She only ever got truly pissed when he wouldn't trust her, and even still had he asked her for the moon we'd all be dead from the impact.
powerful priceless.
