One of the best lines in the show.....Cho interrogating a witness....the witness says “Do you know who I am? With one call, I can get you doing traffic duty”...Cho coolly says “Impressive.....me, with one call the best I can do is get a Pizza” 😁
From experience I can also vouch for the fact that they like it when you stare at their breasts too. If you can manage a little drool then thats a bonus! :D
Jane's way of approaching the family is clever. Acknowledging the child first but only for a few seconds portrays him as someone who is friendly and who cares abt the situation. This makes people feel he's safe and lets him get close to the mother.
and did you see that he never let go of her hands, and when the guys try to stop him the cbi stop them., it would have been better if the CBI flash there badge and said you will be arrest if you touch him it would show that he could really help her.
It would prove that an authority or gov agency could help her. The power of the individual who's dedicated to the truth is more powerful than any gov agencies. It's not healthy to be dependent upon authority figures. If you live in the USA, you've been tricked into being dependent upon HollyWeird versions if the cavalry arriving to kill the nasty 'injuns'. It's always the same story. Americans are addicted to it - to the extent they believe that's what all the foreign wars are for. It's a sickness. Find strength within yourself, engender confidence in others by portraying decency and empathy. That's the message here.
It's also apart of Jane's character to love children. True, it is a clever tactic to get closer to the family, but also Jane probably enjoyed doing it cause he loves children. Either way, Jane wins I guess. :)
@Edward Elrich I'm sure most of it was fake. Later in the episode though he chooses to play with the little girl enough to even remember the name of all her troll dolls. Jane probably is using his con artist mind, but I'm sure Jane also enjoys the child as much as the thrill of the con. No con artist would care enough about a child's toys names to remember them I believe.
You gotta hand it to the creators of the show. The writing, casting and acting of the team was spot on. Everyone of them is likeable and has perfect chemistry with each other.
100% agree , Every time i think about this show , thats the first thing that comes to mind. Alot like that NCIS , the show concept is wierd , but the casting and the writing , just make it work , and its still on TV here in Australia. And my wife watches it , and thats not her thing , she likes medical drama's or Medical shows the real life emergency ones.
Jane actually goaded him into picking the widow specifically for their stupid bet. It was something he would have done regardless to stir up some shit with the suit guy.
At 0:32 is a great shot of the whole team, the girls respectful, the guys a mix of pensive, somber and distracted. Cho is also the middle man, with the show's eventual couples paired together on either side of him. I really loved this show's investigative team: there was never a sense that someone was the odd one out-- they all belonged there.
I already replied with this to someone else, but why not make it a whole comment itself. I think some people might say Jane failed his bet with Rigsby, but I think that bet was never the point at all. Jane just wanted a reason to initiate a conversation with the widow without making it seem like he was disobeying orders from Lisbon. All the stuff he said about love and affection was just setting up Rigsby to challenge him into seducing the widow (which would obviously be the worst choice to "woo"). Knowing Rigsby would choose the widow for Jane to seduce, in order to win his $100, Jane made up the whole thing to go underneath the radar of everyone there.
Exactly. This is my favorite show and im revisiting the whole seasons once again, im glad lot of people are into this show and how damn fascinating the character Patrick Jane is. Simon Baker did an outstanding job portraying him.
The way he says it so calmly is awesome, and I'm sure it's also what makes the guy back down. I mean if you Get in someone's face and the stay completely calm, you start to worry why they're so calm, and what they can do
When Jane, Rigsby and Cho are left alone, some shit is bound to happen. They are a deadly mixture. There was an episode where they stole a painting from a Russian mob guy.
"Can I ask you a personal question?" "No." *Jane just continues* God. And love the fact that Rigsby and Jane are just casually discussing how to seduce women, and Cho's standing there like "Shut the hell up and watch the crowd."
the point is that Jane was given an out of the ordinary example, and while the comment about love and affection seems to connect to the seduction of the widow, there is absolutely no correlation at all
Yakov Goldstein I think this was just to show that he knows what he's talking about. With the first lady, love and affection is what she needed, but the widow needed something a little different. It was very sweet of him to hold her hand like that though. It was like saying "I care about you, so I will protect you."
Rigsby forgets that Jane is the only one on that whole team who was married. And had a kid. While the rest of them were still playing the game, he was at home with winnings 😂
Looking back at this, it's like Jane wanted Rigsby to tell him to seduce the widow. Or maybe he manipulated very subtly. He really is the mentalist. Simon Baker did a perfect of portraying the character. He really made me fall in love with the character ❤️❤️
I agree When he met Summer, I thought we would see the other side of him, and more development in his personality way, but that didn’t last long, and he stayed the same for the rest of the show. A little disappointing, really
jane: wanna bet, cost hundred dollar i can seduce every woman here... Rigsby: okayy, the widow *jane go to widow* Rigsby: *pikachu face* Cho: good job!!
It's all about looking good (clean, well-groomed, well-dressed) and being interesting (not boring) AND exuding an air of kindness and attentiveness but without giving off a stalkerish vibe.
He was also in a very bad part of his life battling depression and grief. The job really helped him focus his talents and get him out of the rut he was in
+Tia Beard I'll go even further. If there's anybody at a funeral you'd not want to make a bet on being seduced, it would be the family of the deceased. Patrick probably planned that.
The whole "bet" was about Jane wanting to approach and talk to the widow in front of her lawyers while letting the other 2 believe it was their own idea
"Why would I want a crowd of women following me around?" Jane, I love you for that! Why other men can't do that and think like that? Why fidelity is deficit?
I believe this scene. Seduction is nothing more that the manipulation of one's psychology. When you know human's psychology inside out like jane, you could seduce anyone, men, women, and in-between....
LOVE Jane's recipe- love and affection. Nowadays so overlooked in the media... At the same time, telling the widow she is beautiful was offensive and not following his own instructions.

Simon Baker was not just great in this show. He was absolutely the best in ride with the devil, the rest of the cast was okay, but he made it worth watching
I actually went to "Mentalist" after running out of episodes of "Castle," way back when. "Bones" is sort of in the same vibe as well. I don't generally go for police procedurals, but when they have compelling characters and a bit of a twist on the formula, it is quite entertaining!
Sure thing. The first few seasons of Dexter were also interesting, but from the other POV (that of a killer). And if you don't mind supernatural elements in your procedurals, Grimm and Dresden Files are also worthwhile. I never really got into Criminal Minds, NCIS, or the original CSI; but my friends swear by those shows.
Seen all of Dexter a while back. I like characterization too, Watched my first Castle today - that was fine. I'm also not attracted to Criminal Minds, NCIS, or CSI. Found a UK series called the Last Detective that is pleasant and unique. Thanks again Seracen.
Most welcome! Oh, your comment on The Last Detective just reminded me of White Collar, Luther, and The Blacklist. I haven't seen Luther, but the other two were amazing shows! I also liked Leverage, but that's more Ocean's Eleven style, as opposed to the other shows we discussed.

Spot on.
this is the scene and episod i fell in love with in 2008 first season
Jane may be my favorite character of all time
Jane suckered Rigsby into allowing him to talk to the widow so he get a closer read on her

Jane's 10000% right tho. Love and affection are amazing.

Cho roasting Rigsby moments are the best.
