Yes, simmering/boiling tofu for about 20 minutes in a marinade will give it much more flavor than just letting it just sit in the same marinade. It also changes the texture. It is a game-changer for those of us who want to eat more tofu, but don't really like the flavor of plain tofu. Same goes for soy curls.

Hey Derek, you probably know about a cat's purr being the exact frequency to aid healing and calm them, which is why injured cats often purr. So maybe the trigger point massager vibrates at a similar frequency. Just a guess.

Do this for your golfers elbow or tennis elbow:
You’ll need a hair band, Crystals hair bands work well or just small rubber bands you find on broccoli.
Wrap them around your finger, near the finger tips and open your hand as far as it can go, do reps of 20 x 3-5 times about 2 times per week should be fixing you up.
OBS: I am into grip sports/ armwrestling so I deal with these things a lot.

Alternative way to fix quinoa. Cook it anyway you like. Store in the refrigerator and then reheat on low to medium flame in a dry non-stick pan, I use a granite one. Use whatever herbs/spices you like. Quinoa will get crispy as you let it cook, turn over frequently and when golden brown serve up with all of your other ingredients. It's super YUMMY!

For golfers elbow, I've heard training finger and wrist exstensors helps. Because of all the gripping in working out and life the flexors get used but not extensors. One way is to put hand in bucket of rice and open your hand from a fist to extend fingers against the resistance of rice and repeat 😊 also training the rotator cuff

1:15 I started taking Glucosamine a few months ago because of achy hips. I'm not old or anything (29) but I've done a looot of high-impact sports like parkour, skateboarding, and rugby. I can't honestly say it's "healed" anything but the aches have definitely subsided! My knees also feel great even though I wasn't consciously aware of any knee pain before taking it but evidently they weren't 100%!
Glucosamine is like a precursor for cartilage and tendons and stuff, and it's cheap. you can buy it in supermarkets, at least in the UK
edit: the timelapse was hilarious! double rotations with the rope are crazy difficult haha

For tendonitis, what worked for me was: modifying every exercise, icing it 3-4 times a day, tendonitis stretches 3-4 times a day, and tendonitis self-massages three times a day. And rest. Lots of rest.
Literally, I didn't do any curls or straight arm shoulder raises, or any aggravating tendon workouts for 6 whole months. It took 6 whole months to get at 95% healed. The last bit, I can't figure out, but I'm able to curl light.
It's going to suck being off the gym but you gotta modified my dude. Have a good recovery *salute

Hey Simnett! In regards to the issue you brought up at the beginning, the tendinitis, I have experienced that intensely as well since I am a rock climber. I tried EVERYTHING and it just wasn't working. What finally seemed to help make it go away permanently was gaining some weight. I can't explain why that might be, but after packing on a few pounds, muscle and fat, I have never experienced it again. Also just doing more frequent yet lighter sessions for a few weeks works very well, rather than taking a break! I know you already do beet juice, and that's another great solution, along with watermelon due to the rich availability of lycopene due to the cardiovascular benefits. Praying that you find a solution as I know how awful it can be!

Tendons are built through time-under-tension, so lots of isometrics. for elbows, you wanna do light pulling exercises, or heavier holds (like dead hangs). They're also much more dependent on collagen to repair and build, so you want plenty of that in your diet.

For your golfers elbow, start doing trigger point all over your arms, your chest and your shoulders. I use a rolflex to do my arms and a lacrosse ball for everything else. Make sure you stretch your arms daily too.
Also you should get a flex bar/ dumbbell variants and start doing eccentric exercises. Once you have no pain during the exercises add pronation/supination exercises.
I have tennis and golfers elbow from 8 years of rock climbing and over training and these have helped me alot.

Hi Derek, i used to suffer from golfer-elbow in both my forearms for anout 4 to 6 months each to the extend that i couldn't rinse my face at the morning, becouse it was so painful. So my treatment was - as in your case - trying anything possible to get relief and get back to what i love, whoch is working out. Becouse we are talking about tissue, which isn't supplied with blood like muscles for example i was doing: a) silikon suction (vacuum) pads massage to increase blood flow in the area, b) submerging elbow in very warm water and hand massage, c) "negative wrist curls" excersise (or howeever it's called); you sit down, grab a light dumbbell, arm on your knee and faceing your palmupright, you lift dumbbell helping your other hand (it's very important not to lift with arm you have pain in) and then only lowering. This helped me and ia have no pain whatsoever since 5 years. Good lock :) PS, do you guys eat sweets?! Like a vegan chocolate? I think, i never saw a video about sweets :D

We also have PEMF, HBOT and surprisingly, it got better but not all gone. A medical pain specialist recommended wearing an elbow sleeve - I'll have to try again.

Great video. Hilarious jump roping. We've been jumping rope lately as well. Brings the inner child out, like sprinting does (for me anyways!) Don and I are trained in acupuncture & Oriental medicine, and we've both had a history of elbow tendonitis, among other injuries. Just so you know, acupuncture can def. help, but it is most effective done consistently in a short time span. In China, treatments would be daily, or near daily until resolved. So, keep at it. We also use red light therapy. We have a Photizo which is a gizmo for using diffused infrared and red light that you can hold over areas around the elbow. We also have a heat lamp. Sometimes we do Gua Sha, a scraping technique. It may hurt quite a bit, but can really help break up stagnation. We use a Chinese soup spoon. Just apply some oil on the area. Ask your acupuncturist if he/she thinks it would benefit your situation. Also, Don just bought Swissies hand grips to put on the chin-up bar. The angle may help keep your arms in better alignment, w/ less strain on elbows. Shoulder mobility work can help as well.
Otherwise, I never thought to freeze ginger before grating. What a great tip! Your food looks great as always. ~Tracy

The faces you made when taking the pre-workout straight to the dome! haha. I bought beetroot powder for a pre-workout after seeing the amount of nitrates in it, and I'm making the same if not worse faces when having it haha. (I know beetroot crystals taste better, but I can't rationalize having it when I know there's something better a.k.a. the straight powder.
For your elbow, I'd recommend lightening the weight and doing super slow eccentric movements with faster or the same speed concentric movements. This will be safer for your joint, putting less force in the joint, while still putting the muscle through a lot of strain. Taking the movement slow will also help with gauging what range of motion of causes pain, you can then progress to making this ROM as high as possible without pain. You should also pause when the muscle/tendons are most stretched in the movement (for the dip, this would be at the bottom of the movement), this will allow the joint to not undergo a large change in force as the joint hinges quickly. Pausing will allow the force to come over a larger time period and cause less stress to it.

For the elbow pain - have you tried strengthening/mobility for your external rotators? I was working with an FRC trainer a couple of years ago, and had been experiencing that same pain. He had me do some PAILS & RAILS for my external rotators and they helped a lot. Good luck!

Have you tried a tens machine or red light therapy? Really works for my osteoarthritis, and in the past were the only things that really helped my lower back and neck issues. And really old school, but fill a big bowl or small plastic tub with really warm water and Epsom salt, and soak that elbow 2-3 times a day. I love to add a few drops of peppermint oil - nice and zingy, and great for the winter blahs! Good luck!

It took 18 months before my golfers elbow went away. Try Armaid, it’s a trigger point lever/roller therapy. It was recommended to me by climbers at the gym.

Derek, whenever my elbow starts feeling sore, I move to the rings for pullups. The ability to turn my hands to a neutral position always feels more comfortable.

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy helped me a lot with elbow tendon pain and it is generally pretty reliable for that. not the cheapest thing, at least over here in austria but if you can, i would suggest that. and of course a bunch of physical therapy exersizes.

Medial epicondylitis is caused by the excessive force used to bend the wrist. Change your hand position when you pull, overextend the hand so you cannot bend the wrist anymore (or at least less). I was able to still do reps while the epicondylitis slowly went away.

Hi I am a PT. I looked at your dips and your tendonitis is most likely due muscle imbalances/weakness in your forearm and tricep.
    1. Your left forearm is much smaller than your right
    2. You are doing a lot of external rotation of your left shoulder to complete the movement.
Do some exercises that can isolate and assess your left tricep and do some forearm/wrist exercises to improve your left forearm.
    Hope that is helpful

So I had that problem with my elbow and to fix it wear a wrist brace at night. Sounds weird but stabilizing that muscle at the wrist helps it heal at the elbow. Fixed mine and a couple of friends who had the same issue. The time frame differs from person to person but just wear it until the problem goes away. Usually start to see improvement in a week or two.

Derek I had a similar problem with my elbow years ago. I had a small brace that was worn on the forearm that fixed my problem by putting just enough pressure on that tendon that comes from the elbow. Amazon.
