  • McCall's 8344 is a really cute top. I made view C, and I decided to remove the gathers from the sleeve cap. I share how I removed the gathers, why I removed the gathers, and what I did to prepare the sleeve before making any adjustments to it. This sewing make was made from a knit fabric that was purchased from Joann Fabrics.
    Coat: McCall's 7848

OMG, the pink jacket is so pretty, first one I've seen, and your black dress, is off the chain, it's so unique. I'm glad we wear the same size(smile) I love them both. That black dress, wow, I'm enjoying your creativeness. Now instead of it being for funerals, even though that's always a sad occasion, maybe you'll make another one! With some of your scraps, that maybe a different look. Great job. Love Aunt Irene

Thank you, auntie. I think the black dress is different with the fabric draping off the shoulders. I could definitely see making that dress in a different color, and it’s really easy to sew too. That’s funny about us wearing the same size, but I’m glad we wear the same size too.

Yes, I name some of my clothing pieces. When you said that was your funeral dress I smiled because that's what I call mine 😊. Your pink coat is super cute! Thank you for showing how to get rid of the gathers. You did great!

Sometimes our clothes just seem to serve a purpose, such as a funeral dress. So glad to know I'm not the only one who calls a dress a "funeral" dress. Lol. Thank you so much. It's nice to know we can remove gathers if we don't want them. :)

Thank you so much. I’m so glad you found the video interesting. :) I really like gathers in the sleeve cap. I definitely can see myself making this top again with the gathers next time. They’re such a nice detail. Thanks again.

thank you SO MUCH!! 😭 I’ve been sewing for less than a year and have noticed a lot of the more feminine patterns I gravitate toward feature big puffy sleeves, which tend to make me look like a football player due to my petite frame haha. I’m a visual learner and have found many tutorials for drafting gathered sleeves but none on how to remove them until now. I can’t wait to try this! thank you!!!

Love your coat and dress. I made the hooded version of coat and have dress pattern now that I see yours must put on list to make . Love how you tackle any situation and make it work. Top came out super cute

Thank you so much. The coat was the first coat I ever put a full lining in. I'll always remember that about this coat. I bet your hooded version is really nice. The dress is really easy to make. I think you will love how easy it comes together. So glad you already have the pattern since it's an older one. Thanks again.

Hey Sis.... this was such a nice and informative video. I loved how you removed the gathers and the way you calculated how much you need to remove or add to the cap sleeve....had my mind spinning, but truly appreciate the way you worked it out.
Yes. The "funeral" dress is very pretty. I also remembered the pink fabric.
    Great job as always!

Thank you so much. Not sure how often I’ll do this because I really like gathers, but I’m so glad it worked out in this instance. Definitely trying to wear my “funeral dress” more often. Lol. I couldn’t get enough of that pink fabric. It’s made an appearance a few times. Glad you remembered it. :)

LOVELY! ❤❤❤. This is a great pattern, and I love the fabric, color, and fit you created for yourself! Those sleeves turned out perfect and good for you, going out to research how to make that change and sharing it with others! You are such a sweetie! 🥰🤗

Thank you. I love the color of this fabric too. I’ve been trying to add softer colors to my wardrobe. I’m so happy the adjustment turned out okay. It was nice practicing something that I learned that will hopefully help others along the way. :)

Oh my goodness, you are fabulous. The coat is so nice and the dress "formerly known as funeral dress" is awesome. The wrap top though.... you made it look so much better than the pattern envelope! I was captivated, watching you decide how to redraw the sleeve pattern without gathers. Good for you!! I was worried the top would need a little more width at the bottom but you are so trim, I shouldn't have.
Well, about naming things... the first garment I sewed were called my "happy pants" and the matching shawl is (still) called "rasta wrap." I just don't like it when my husband says "You're wearing your clown pants" or "Oh, you're making a muumuu!" He's banned from naming my clothes, haha~

Aww. Thank you. I was looking forward to hacking this pattern. I really have a good time playing around and trying new things. Awww. I really love the name of happy pants. That is so cute and sounds so fun. So funny about your husband being banned from naming your clothes. One time I made some shorts and someone thought they were men’s boxers instead. I could never “not see” boxers after that. Lol. Oh the stories I bet we could tell. 😂😂
