I am confused about the 10 inch bicep and 14 inch sleeve, but am so glad uou explained how to find cap height. No one has explained that in the dozens of sleeve videos ive watched.
Thank you for watching and I'm glad I could help clarify the concept of finding cap height! It's always great to know that my videos are providing valuable information to my viewers.
I would love to see a princess line dress, front and back, please thank you! Enjoyed your sleeve, and I'll watch your body slope pattern, thanks for sharing.
So glad I found you. You make drafting so easy. Now I am not intimidated by Helen....Armstrong's book. Thanks to you. Didn't realize I have such a treasured book at my disposal. Thanks again.
Wow incredible, your tutorial is perfect. I was confused between bicep and sleeve cap height but your teaching has made me to know the difference. I'm truly grateful. Thank you so much. Please can you make tutorial on how to draft wrap dress.
Oh yeah it can be super confusing. Sometimes they do not say to do things they just have it in a picture somewhere. My goal is to create a better pattern drafting book one day.
oh, this is an amazing resource! i really struggle with translating written instructions into actions so this is unbelievably helpful! thank you for such clear, precise instructions. You really made this feel simple and achievable!
This is great to hear! Thank you. I think trying to read a pattern drafting book can be really hard unless you already know what’s going on in the design. I’m here to make it easy!
Tracing the bodice on the sleeve pattern is genius, I didn't think about that before! I struggled with unfitting sleeve cap, made it complicated to sew on the bodice and it made the sleeve look ugly from the inside, will try this technique next time! Tysm ❤❤❤
Yay! I'm so glad you found this tip helpful. Tracing the bodice on the sleeve pattern really does make a difference. Keep up the great work and happy sewing!
I can't tell you how much I needed this video! Something I'd like to see you do in the future is redo your pencil skirt tutorial. I was looking at some of your older videos (my goodness how far you've come!), and I'd really like to know more about making pencil skirts. Someone asked me to make some for them, and I'm not very good at it. I'd like to know more!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!! I copied a dress bodice I already had that was sleeveless and wanted to add sleeves to the pattern. I'd never done sleeve drafting before and was a bit intimidated that I wouldn't be able to get it to work. I tried 4 times to draft a sleeve from a few other websites/blogs, but something just didn't seem *quite right* about them, and it turned out they were missing the sleeve cap measurements! I followed your instructions, and while I'll need to adjust the sleeve cap height (which I found your other video on how to do just that!), I was able to draft a sleeve that looks exactly how I wanted to! 🎉👗
You’re awesome, Allow me to describe my perfect dress pattern that I hope to create with your help. Ok imagine a full circle skirt that’s slightly below the knee, connected to a bodice that is form fitting with a crew neck (both front and back) and elbow length sleeves that are form fitting as well. Oh and a back invisible zipper that goes from the top to hip without creating a full seam down the back of the skirt. Let’s do this!
Thank you for showing the markings so well. ❤ I am finally able to make a sleeve for my daughter's dress that we are usung as a pattern for another, but need a long sleeve for instead of a ruffle as a sleeve.😊.I watched another tutorial, but it didnt mention how to the sleeve for the existing bodice, and they didn't show how to write the lines. I appreciate the visual explanation that you did! ❤
Hi, first of all, thank you very much, I really like your content! I didn't understand where the 10 inch size was reflected. The circumference of the arm is larger than usual. I would appreciate your help
Guess she wants to know how you use the bicep measurement of 10". in making the sleeve pattern because from your video your bicep measurement turn out to be 14 inches
Thank you so much. . I have same book 2nd edition bug I'm so intimidated by all those numbers. YOU MADE IT EASY. Thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge with us. Greetings from California ❤ God Bless you and your family 😊
Great video. Can you talk about symmetrical vs asymmetrical sleeve caps (shape)? If I followed correctly we have two different opening lengths on the front and back of the garment but the sleeve draft splits the added numbers evenly. Help in understanding this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I love your video's you make it so much easier. Question, you first labelled C as sleeve cap then referred to it as bicep. Does it really matter? I do think they were different measurements though no?
The bicep line is the bottom of the sleeve cap. Hope that helps. I ramble & talk a lot sometimes lol 😂. The worst part of design & sewing is that everything has like 4 different names but they are the same thing. I will have to watch the vid again to fully answer your question though. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this, it was very helpful. I did mess it up when you gave the formula for the arm scye (not sure I spelled that correctly) as when you said to add a quarter I thought you meant a quarter of the measurement, not a quarter inch! Ended up with a massive sleeve with way too much to ease in. Went back and did the math for your measurements and realized my mistake. Second try ended up much better.
I misunderstood too, so looked for someone else wondering what the quarter was of exactly and found your comment !! Easily misunderstood I think. Thanks🙂
I am going to redraft a sleeve from an existing pattern with this. The instructions are very clear, thank you. I have one question. It seems like most of the ease is in the front sleeve cap. Is there a way to move some of the ease to the back sleeve cap?
I made your sleeve for a bridal gown-it fit beautifully! On her arm and in the original arm hole. Now the shoulder strap won’t stay up. Any suggestions?
thank you for the video, it was very helpful. Did we end up using the bicep measurement that we took at the start? or just make the bicep line from our magic number derived from the armcye? ❤
I think we just used the armhole measurement. You can always go back and make just the bicep bigger if you need that. I have a video on it actually. Happy drafting :)
I love the drafting videos! Did you ever release an online class for purchase? I'm out of WA State but wishing there was more of this content from you. I love your style and way of teaching! @@SewAnastasia
Hi how do we add ease to this? I want a basic sleeve but will it not be too tight if I just use my measurements. I’m plus size so hate having things tight on my arms.
This sleeve actually turns out fairly loose. You can always add more room to it through the slash and spread technique though. So this way you are keeping the arm hole measurement the same but making it bigger through the arm. Hope that helps. Thank you for watching.
Yeah I did the whole thing and the sleeve is 3” too narrow. The measurements don’t make sense. Maybe it’s only for super thin people like most of the design books
4:08 by now because of all the blubber, you scared away the beginners. Instead of explaining.how to get the measurement of a back armhole and explain why the front is different, you are blubbering about how SCARY complicated the book description is, meaning that's where you scare the beginners into.a frenzy. Why do these videos if you want to rather address a mirage of unrelated info then maybe the title should reflect "not beginner friendly"! Again just TMI on unrelated things, vs. too little info on why the back armhole has different measure than the front.
Thank you for making this easy to understand! This is the best explanation I've ever heard. THANK YOU!!!
That is awesome to hear. I hope you share it with all of your sewing friends. :)

Anytime! I’m going to start creating slot of original designs that are not in the book too so keep an eye out :)
Great! Thanks.
Thanks for the video! How can we adjust the curve if the gap between front/back bodice measurements is wider than 2 inches?
Good question! Here is a video on that. ruclips.net/video/fMR7M8iJcX4/видео.htmlsi=kH06dQV0BEOtarDI

Thank you so much for this video. I really learnt a lot. Just wondering what happened to the original bicep measurement, where does it come in?
It is around c-f

Yes there is. You can re balance it however you like at the top. Thats a whole new video though. I will add it to my list.
I made your sleeve for a bridal gown-it fit beautifully! On her arm and in the original arm hole. Now the shoulder strap won’t stay up. Any suggestions?
The shoulder strap? Can you put in a ribbon with snaps to catch this strap? Is it a bra strap?
@@SewAnastasia not an issue with her bra. Added a sleeve to a 1” shoulder strap gown. The weight of it pulls it off her shoulder

Yes. You just need to measure some sort of arm hole for it to fit into.

How do o calculate cap height
Underarm to top of shoulder on the outside of the arm
How do you measure if there is no armhole in the pattern?
Measure your bicep & sleeve cap
From 8:50, can you please say the measurement in cm/mm, please, "G,H,K,L,M,N" in mm please , G= mm, H= mm , K= mm, L= mm, M= mm, N= mm"
You can convert it if you use the Google calculator
