Probably the best illustration in real form I’ve seen and I’m OLD er🤣 and have seen many experts try and show this. I’ve learned that one pattern does not fit all activity expectations😂 and to be mindful if this garment will be for example, a church blouse, or an around the house flannel shirt that works for cleaning and yard work. I do agree that gussets offer more range with less bulk, because after all it’s hard to get shape in just one piece. Keep up the good work😉!

Excellent video! Something I've wanted to explore is adding a gusset under the arm. That way you can have the close fit you like and still have mobility, at least that's the theory 😂
How is adding a gusset different from just making the initial armhole a little smaller. Cuz at the end of the video you said you wanted to explore a larger armhole for more comfort. But isn't that part of causing more restriction when raising the arm up? Just wondering. Hope you can help?🙏
@Ruby Kewa A gusset is a small diamond shaped piece of fabric that allows you to move more freely in tight clothing. You can even cut sleeves in such a way that it has a built in arm gusset. It does add more bulk under your arm though

Great video!! The only suggestion i have, which would fix ur problem of sewing 6 right sleeves, is you should be double notching your back patterns (sleeve cap back and back armholes in your case). That’s how that problem is prevented in the industry.

This was interesting. I think it would have helped if you not only showed up the sewed sleeve but the Green Yellow Red pattern alongside it. Just for visual sake. it was a little confusing.
You’re always going to need the armhole measurement taken from the top pattern. The cap height is a portion of that measurement depending on how much mobility you need!! Is that what you were asking?😊
Just a bit confused, the Winniefred one how much difference is there in mobility between the ease added? They all look similar in appearance and is mobility similar too??
I understnd the confusion☺️! There is not much difference in mobility, the idea is that the shape of the sleeve at the top is more rounded or squared. Here it’s difficult to see because I added a “small” amount (1 to 3cm) but the more you add, the more round/puffy the sleeve is gonna be!! Also, this difference is more noticeable the higher the cap is and here I used a medium cap height unfortunately😢 I hope I helped a little bit🌸

In my experience when I added less ease I felt tightness not in the actual sleeves but in the upper bust area especially with movement of the arms. Did you notice tightness anywhere with less/more ease? I love to sew my own clothes but struggling with mobility. I’m not sure how ready to made clothes give full mobility and perfect appearance too ☹️☹️☹️
I must admit I struggle with the same too, I’m also not used to wearing tight fit clothes so I don’t know if that’s how they should feel😂 In the ones I created there wasn’t any mobility difference but it might be because the sleeves on both sides were different for this video. For the rest of my makes I never use the Winniefred method for the sleeves, I prefer the logic of the Dennic chunman lo because it makes more sense why you add ease or not, maybe you can try that method? I linked a video of a girl explaining the pattern drafting process really really well!!
Yes!! It’s the distance between the top of the sleeve and the bicep line, and depending on how big it is, you will have more or less mobility below your arms ☺️
