I owned the PPQ in .45 and after I bought the P320 .45, I sold my PPQ. I just fell in love with this pistol and it became my EDC that very same day. Good luck finding the P320 .45 now though.

WOW!!! You made a statement about the out of the box, or issued Colt .45. Extremely accurate with an excellent combat. The Walther is a superior trigger with an accuracy that sonnets should be sung. The Walther is even better.
I am very pleased owning a Walther PPQ M2 45. It is an excellent quality handgun, very accurate, with a smooth trigger pull, and great ergonomics. Dependable, with a mag capacity of 12+1, the PPQ M2 45 is truly a gem of a pistol. I carry it concealed often for protection and security.

That reset,on the PPQ 45 is awesome .I have 3 different 45s,and the PPQ is my go to gun,over the other 2. Long live the PPQ 45!

Sig P320 is a great gun. That being said..mthe Walther PPQ is the PERFECT GUN. No comparison in my opinion. Walther PPQ is the best polymer striker fired pistol on the market right now. Glock..H&K..Sig..M&P..XD..all of them are awesome. But the PPQ is even better.
I have the Creed, PPS M2 and a PPQ Navy SD on the way. Walther is an excellent manufacturer. Sig is great but very proud of their stuff. Their price reflects that.

Well Walther perfected 9mm full and compact frame strikers with PPQ series but once we come down to subcompact ... neither Walther nor Sig are making great guns (good .... yes .... great .... no) with subcompact HK VP9SK wins hands down. Now when it comes to 0.45ACP there are only 2 type of guns 1911 and everything else ...
I really enjoyed the review and evaluation of the two firearms. The objective comparison and contrast was informative and educational for the enthusiast and novice alike. I own the PPQ and P320 in .45ACP and .40 S&W. The German engineering and overall quality is second to none. The after market support is where the P320 shines and the trigger on the PPQ is in first place!!! Great video and keep up the good work.
After renting the Sig P320 45 acp at my local range, I was completely amazed how it performed. It felt as if I was a 9 mm! For the first time, I was hitting center mass from 8 yds. out. Got a good grouping hitting head shots too. The following week I traded in my Glock GAP 45 for the P320, and never looked back.
82 Luft People seem to like finding reasons to hate on Sigs, but one thing they can't hate is how Sigs have such soft-shooting and accurate handguns in the "higher" calibers like the P220 and P227. I'm hearing great things about the P320 45acp as well. I've had both the 220 and 227 in 45 and they really felt no different than shooting most full size 9mm's, hardly any snappiness at all. And if you like shooting the 10mm, the P220 in 10 is simply amazing.
82 Luft, there is no comparison. The PPQ will outshoot the P320 all day long. At 21ft probably not much difference but once you get past 30ft the PPQ rules
That's my exact same story. This past weekend I was at the range. Rented. The attendant recommended it to me. I wasn't too thrilled about it until I shot it. Never shot ANY 45 as good as this one. It does feel like a 9mm. I think I found my next pistol.

Outstanding comparison between these two suburb pistols. Every bit worth the 33 min. review. I own the Sig P320 45 and love it. when shooting, I have to look twice making sure that I'm not firing my P320 9 mm! That's how mild the recoil is on this gun. The trigger pull feels much less than 8 lbs. Sweet. Excellent, quick reset too. Choice? No contest. The Sig Sauer hands down.

You are right, the PPQ 45 have a polygonal barrel from the beginning. All new PPQ Pistols have a polygonal barrel now and a slightly different slide shape at the ejection port.
I just ordered the Sig P320 .45 full size. Most of my life I have shot and have a few guns. This will be my first Sig & my first .45. Honestly I am a little nervous to try a new brand of gun with a new caliber. If I had purchased the .45 from Glock I think I would have felt slightly more at ease, however, would have been disappointed to pass up the Sig.

Go for it, Robert. The P320 45 runs rings around the Glock. You'll be amazed at its mild recoil and accuracy. After all, didn't the Army choice its kid brother for their next generation sidearm? That alone should make you move on it.
Great Video - Of course it was a month or two late and I couldn't wait! So I have both and you are pretty spot on. I too am a Walther fan and I have to agree with everything you said. Sig grip is better but I still stuck a Talon on it as well as the PPQ .45. Once I put the Talon on the PPQ, the flip calmed down quite a bit. I do like the way the PPQ Points and seems to get back on target pretty quick even with the touch more flip. I seemed to be a little more accurate with the PPQ but the Sig P320F can also put nice groups down range. Either gun is a great buy and both have strengths and really no weaknesses.

One thing about testing/measuring the trigger pull on the P320....you'll probably get a different reading if you test the pull with a magazine in the pistol with a dummy round pushing up on the slide as it would with a loaded mag. Like some Glocks, with a magazine out of the gun, you can actually see the slide lifting/moving a bit as you pull the trigger and the sear pulls off the striker. Adds a tiny bit of extra resistance before the break. But with a round in the mag keeping the slide pushed up from below, there's on 'give' as the sear just slides off the striker. You can feel a little bit of difference, the latter having a smoother and cleaner creep before the break.

I am a Walther guy. Own 9 of them. And know the PPQ quality, but am learning towards the Sig if only for some variety.
Thanks for this review. I have the FNX 45 Tactical but that's way too big to edc. Was looking for a 45 carry option. This helped me make my choice. 320 based on recoil management, night sights, and aftermarket support.

Great coverage of both .45s. I held off on getting a p320 for a while but after picking up a p320 rx I fell in love with the platform. Very few people are covering the p320 .45 so it's good to see a head to head video out there with one of the better .45s on the market.
My out of the box, Colt .45's have extremely accurate hair triggers, even my Defender. The Walther action is superior.
Easy choice for me. The PPQ 👍 because of appearance, slide lock, capacity, weight, ERGOs, & especially the TRIGGER !!! However I like them both A LOT, so I think I'll get BOTH. PROBLEM SOLVED!

Great comparison video! Just for fun I reviewed the shooting footage to compare recoil at .25 speed, and it does look like the PPQ has marginally more 'bounce' as you are fighting the recoil to stabilize for the next shot. The PPQ seems to take 2.5 to 3 large oscillations to damp down, while the Sig seemed to be closer to 2. Oddly though, I measured the time it took for you to get the muzzle back to level/horizontal, and you were faster with the PPQ, as were your successive follow-up shots. This is far from a scientific analysis, but I used a stopwatch and repeated the measurements several times to even out error on my part.
As to the PPQ trigger reset, I've noticed that what people attribute to additional 'takeup' after the reset is not actually additional takeup, but rather the consequence of the reset being so springy, tactile and positive. If you carefully release after a trigger break, you'll see that the reset does not have any additional travel, but unless you have an iron finger, there tends to be a little slippage when the reset is reached. Perhaps this is what people mean anyway?
+Myanameis Beestingz Wow - you have some serious free time! ;-) I like your analysis though. You're very observant, because it is the "dip down" of the muzzle that is actually more to blame for the sensation of "flip" for me. I think this is because I am applying more forward pressure to compensate for more recoil and muzzle lift - so it becomes a spring. Oscillation is a good description for that. I'm sure that one were to fire just that one gun for enough time to get proficient, you'd apply just the right force and have little to no "dip". Your videos are a huge asset to the shooting community- I just might have to give the 320 another chance- your videos are very persuasive while being as objective as possible.
I was skimming through the posts to see if anyone addressed this. I didn’t use a stop watch but to me it looked like the ppq did not flip as high up and was back to target quicker. I was very interested to hear Justin to say he felt the opposite. Nice to hear the stats too! Also, I was waiting for a remark in the review regarding the hand height vs barrel. The beaver tail on the dog seemed to keep the hand lower on the gun than on the ppq. The ppq has the little cut away under the trigger guard and without the lower beaver tail it seemed to me the hand was higher which should lessen the flip. Again, surprised Justin felt otherwise. Note, I have never held either of these pistols.
I agree 100%, I think it's perception on Justin's part. He was much quicker on target with the PPQ even though he complain about the sites too. LOL
And that snappiness I think is because the recoil is distributed more horizontally into the hand than upwards. So you feel more in the hand but the muzzle "flip" if you will is actually less because of that. I've always been interested in the Barretta .45 for the reason of the rotating barrel, always wondered if it keeps muzzle flip down even more.

Another Great Video!! You know I Love the 45ACP Pistols! My 45 PPQ trigger is just over 4 pounds too. I love my Sig 320 Compact in 9mm, maybe I should look at the Compact or Carry 320 in 45ACP. Good to hear that you thought the recoil was controlled well in the full size P320, and I love it that you can get it with night sights from the factory. I enjoyed the Show my friend. Beretta Sr.
+BERETTA9mmUSA Thanks man! It's a shame the .45 chassis is not compatible with the other calibers or you could just get a kit and spend a bit less. But at least once you have it, you can get different sizes. I just finally got a kit for the full sized 9mm.
Both seem to be great, not sure if I will get either one though. As usual, another high quality video production. You sure got some good groups out of them both. I just picked up my first PPQ today, albeit the 22LR model. I will say, it feels amazing in the hand. I already own two P320's, one in 9 and the other is 40. Only negative I can come up with on the P320's is the feel of the polymer. It just feels kind of tinny or cheap, I don't know how else to explain it. However, it has a better feeling trigger than most other striker fired pistols. It might not be light but I love the solid, smooth metal feel of the P320's trigger. +fumasterchu12 The grip frame of the P320 is slightly less "substantial" than many others - but it is designed to be a replaceable commodity (somewhere around $45) as opposed to a serialized permanent component like traditional poly guns. I think for that reason there is a lesser investment in it. I think that's probably the reason. As for the trigger - I agree completely. One of my favorite triggers, and seems very consistent from one pistol to the next.
I think I'll just add some Talon grips to my 320's and call it perfect. I don't think they're getting enough press, they really are nice shooters. I also bought an extra sub compact frame to switch out with either chassis.
Just out of curiosity whats is the cost of the SIG 320 compare to the Walther PPQ 45 also the great thing about the Walther you can upgrade the sight to whatever you like and a stainless steel guide can be purchase for the Walther
Another great review. One of your best ever!! (IMO). I'm surprised that the PPQ was snappier than the Sig 320. I like both triggers! With the (apparent high bore axis) I would have thought it would have been the snappier shooter. Though a fan of the PPQ (9mm), in this case, I would have to go with the Sig 320 in .45.

What our friend has not admitted is that he has an eye drift. Please adjust the sights to your eye. This firearm, is the penitential of out of the box, .45 accuracy. My Colts are also extremely accurate, but the Walther trigger is the very best, out of the box trigger on the market. I take that back. The Walther is world famous for a reason. That reason is pre S&W engineering.

never held a p320 so can't speak on that...but the ppq 45 is a badass pistol. my tenifer finish is flawless and will not scratch. Not the case on my other ppqs. my 9 and 40 made in '14 and '15 were scratched right out of the box. walther must have stepped up their game on finishes.

I don't know what the fuck you're using your gun for, but why would you need that much more ammunition in a gun that will probably kill someone in two shots or less?
Same reason you'd need 18 rounds in a glock 17. Because you can. I suppose you would go to war with a derringer and expect to come home unscathed and alive eh?
The point is the FNX45 holds 15 rounds of 45 ACP, a SAR K2 hold 14 and a glock 21 holds 13. I suppose there's no good reason those manufacturers thought that it was important to have a high capacity 45. 10 rounds is not high capacity and claiming double stack with 10 rounds is laughable.
Because round capacity trumps accuracy and quality? Spoken like a true novice. hahaha
I’ve never fired a P320. But I was pretty surprised how heavy the trigger was. My other striker fired pistols are 4-6lbs. It must have a really clean break or something if it’s that heavy and shoots well easily. Because I fired a s&w sd40ve with a 8.5” lb trigger and it was a nightmare.

I have the Walther PPQ .45. Very good and less of a recoil than you think and trigger is very good. I'd never trust the P320 under any circumstances because of the dropsy shootee.

It has been fixed since the voluntary recall factory models don’t have a drop safety issue.
center of gravity on the Walther is further forward than the Sig Sauer which contributes to it being "snappier" than the Sig, which uses that forward weight to counteract recoil on the P320.

cannot work the slide, but she does like the 9mm Sig p320 action and can
work that slide like a champ. Way different strength in the recoil

+ahernandez1080, thanks for the response. I have since checked them out at my LGS. Not impressed with the polymer on these guns and a bit disappointed considering its a SIG. I am assuming they are cheap because of the chassis system and easily replaced, assuming you can easily find the frames. Conversely, I also inspected a Beretta APX, which is another polymer/chassis based firearm. Without getting into a Beretta/SIG war, I can honestly state the polymer frame on the Beretta seemed quite a bit more robust and better manufactured.

Why would the Walther handle recoil less well? Sig has 8+ pound trigger pull and the highest bore axis on the market. Walther trigger is less than 4-1/2 pound trigger pull. Walther has a lower bore axis than Sig.
Considering that 9mm is way more popular caliber the choice of the .45 guns though unconventional, still applicable and useful for those who use 9mm guns. You control both guns very well, the groups are a tiny bit better with the Sig, while Walther's trigger is the best in class. I wondered if a flashlight attached to a Walther could help reduce its snappiness?
before watching the video, I'm going to say that the PPQ is the winner.
My Sig P320C .45 has a two part recoil spring and a trigger pull that is less than 5lb.
Installed the Apex trigger in my PPQ45 and all I can say is WOW, they made a great trigger greater.

Reduces initial take up big time, shortens reset some. Buy one you will NOT be disappointed.

It doesn't change the trigger pull weight so if you're ok with it now you should be after. There is quite a bit less take up than before so you would have to get use to that.

Nice review. Looking for a new .45 and wasn't considering the P320...now I am.
My friend has a Walther P99 in .40 and it is very snappy. Not the most pleasant gun to
shoot. After holding it I noticed how the grip is further down the gun...closer to the barrel than most guns. Probably for ergonomics.
If you think of the where your thumb hits the beaver tail as an axis for the gun to pivot on
(during recoil)....the PPQs axis is further down the slide if you draw a vertical line. This is easy to see just looking at the two you have in the vid.
The point I'm making is that if your hand is further down the slide during recoil then more mass (the slide) is moving past your wrist as it slides back...making muzzle rise more likely. Just a theory. What do you think?
Your observations and assumptions have merit. I'm not an engineer or ergonomics expert, but the way levers and fulcrums work certainly plays a significant role in felt recoil and muzzle lift.
I hope Sig or Walther makes a 10mm version of their 45 act pistols

Thats a beaut of a Walther. Enjoyed the video thank you. But I must say that having the stats over the opposite gun was a tad confusing as I was trying to read them and look at the gun and listen to you also. Would be much better to switch the stat overlay around.

When you were discussing the differences at the beginning, you had the PPQ info overtop the P320 and vice versa, and that was VERY VERY CONFUSING as you were gesturing and holding them up.

I wonder if the PPQ has more muscle flip than many other 45 hand guns because the grip sets more forward on the slide than the other hand guns. There seems to be less slide weight hanging out in front of your hand with the PPQ, where the P320 was most of the slide out in front of your hand.

Another great comparison. Here's my theory on the recoil between the two. I don't have either gun, so I can only look at the video and pictures and speculate, but despite the Sig's higher bore axis, it has a number of things going for it. 1) it's 1.4 oz heavier. 2) it has a less top-heavy slide (less metal up high), 3) more plastic on the frame displacing the metal of the slide, 4) the chassis inside the frame places more metal/weight below the bore axis, and 5) metal guide rod. I've seen patents pending on upcoming pistols where they have mitigated recoil by lowering the recoil guide rod so that it is literally in front of the trigger guard. The point is that the higher the mix of the gun's weight below the bore axis the better, and the PPQ is a tad top heavy despite trying trying to mitigate it with tapering the slide. You put these five things together and that's why I think it's not as snappy despite the higher bore axis.

Is it me or do the frames on the SIG 320's look like they are easily scratched?

I still can't over the fact the 320 trigger comes in at 8 lbs.It doesn't feel like it at all.I don't own the Walther(maybe someday) but just pulling that trigger in my local gun shop was amazing.Gotta be the best trigger on a SF hands down.I can only imagine shooting that sweetheart.
+CWB1863 I agree. When I see numbers like that, it makes me suspect the calibration of my gauge, but then I measure another gun and it is right where it should be... but there are many variables when measuring trigger pull - so always take it with a grain of salt.
+Justin Opinion I found with my P320 that depending where on the face of the trigger I measure the pull made a big difference in the reported weight on the gauge, more so than other striker fired pistols I have. Good video!
The listed 8lbs + trigger pull is the one thing putting me off the Sig...... The difference in Mag capacity doesn’t because I learned how to change mags fast (I was bought up in the UK with a 1911). The trick is to reload with one round still up the spout and the slide forward (so if needs must you can still shoot with the mag out which is why I really can’t stand magazine safeties - they will kill you). For me, p320 defeats Walther in all but two aspects, the trigger and the mag capacity, I am very darn glad I purchased p320 in .45 ACP and will never look back, and with regular rifling you could freely shoot hard cast bullets made out of wheel weights. My two cents.

The lack of recoil when shooting a 45 p320 is freaky. Enables you to put more shots on target at a faster rate.

i love love love sigs; but... the one issue with every sig i own is the trigger... pistols or ARs. I changed trigger in my m400 to a geissle ss and now it is perfection... haven't switched it on my pistols yet... still love them though. I would never doubt a walther either though... also awesome guns.
boss 350z: The P320 45 trigger might be a little heavy at the range, but god forbid when you're faced with a threat, that same trigger is as smooth as butter.

Yes I shot the PPQ ergos are good. The triggers good but if you don't practice you can have accidental fires because how short it is. I stand by Sig. get your hands on it shoot it. I traded the PPQ for an AK-47 Arsenal sa 93.

I think the weight on the P320 is deceiving because its such an awesome shooter. It definitely doesn't feel like 8 lbs but my P320 reads out almost the weight.
+Hegshot87 Yep. I've long said that within reason, it's not the weight of the trigger pull that is important, but the crispness of break and smoothness of pull. And the P320 has both. Of course the PPQ is nearly legendary, and the .45 is the lightest so far.
+Justin Opinion Agreed. I've shot some guns with an 8lb trigger or close to it and cant hit nearly as well as I can with the P320.
So the Walther has 3x the magazine capacity as the Sig.

Excellent comparison video! You confirmed the snappier PPQ 45 that I noticed from other PPQ 45 videos. And from what I've seen the Glock 21 is much smoother with less muzzle flip than the Walther. At my gun store the Sig P320 "carry" had a weird trigger that when dry fired had the normal "click" for firing, followed by more travel and a second "click" to stop. The salesman didn't have anything to say about that....I have a FNX 45 of which I'm very happy with. Any videos of that?
+Schuster Thanks. Yeah, I noticed the muzzle flip with my first shot and am surprised others aren't mentioning it. I don't view it as a horrible thing - just a fact. Still a great pistol - but if you don't like the snappiness it makes a difference. The trigger system in the P320 line do have a 'click' when dry fired - it is normal and does not do any damage. FNX-45 is on my list and has been for some time. Would love to put that head to head with the HK 45.

"against", which is the strict interpretation of the latin word - and most commonly suggests a contest in which one victor will emerge. 2. ": in contrast to or as the alternative of" - meaning a comparison between two or more. This is my general meaning. My goal is to give you information to help you decide which might be best for you - telling you what I think is best is less important. However, I do try to be very candid about what I like and don't like, and if there is a clear "winner" I will say so.
This review is excellent; very thorough! 2 questions: if you were to recommend one of these to a woman, who has a hand that is small to medium, which would it be? Have you tried the steel dpms recoil assembly in the ppq, and does it help with muzzle flip and target acquisition?

Don't need aftermarket support for the ppq. Maybe sights and holster but there are plenty of both. Don't need to upgrade anything else on it. Aftermarket support is for Glock because they need it desperately , not these two.

im a canadian gun owner, so to me the look of the gun is a big part of my choice, size is kinda not relevant. i won't be carrying it or using it in defensive situation. i would pick the Sig because i love how it looks, kinda feels better in my hand (the grip i mean).

Justin Phillips well here we can't use a handgun for anything but taking it to the shooting range, can't use it as conceal carry, can't open carry, can't use it for home defense, or any defense period! As soon as you do you'll get arrested even if you were being attacked by someone with a deadly weapon. Our laws are backwards.
So I said that because if I'm going to the shooting range, I want a gun with more functions like decocker, ambi mag/slide, external hammer. All these features will make me enjoy the gun, instead of a glock where all you do is squeeze the trigger.

+Bobby Cooke That is correct. The .45 ACP requires a different 'chassis' than the other calibers and they are not interchangeable.
In all fairness to the Walther, the Tac version holds 12 and has a threaded barrel of the same length as the Sig. Two variables negated...
Oh, and either Walter .45 shoots circles around the Sig...just sayin'....
the only difference that matters is one is drop safe one is not.
