Ciao Guys! The video for some reason is still processing! It should be 4K! ..... youtube... but when ready I hope you will enjoy this review! I worked a lot on that! Feedback will be highly appreciated! Timed Sections in the description :)
Anyone looking at this in late 2019. I have a few things to add if you are considering this headset because you cannot get a index HMD alone due to stock. Gear mod makes this amazing. Also the headset does move all over your face with the stock foam. But I bought some Kiwi pad replacements and this totally fixed it. It no longer moves on my face. Also the headphones... the fucking headphones are a big let down. You will not meet the level of the DAS. You can do a couple fixes to get this to the same level of the rift CV1. You need to setup the headset with a EQ within windows (search reddit). Windows will save these settings so it is not something you need to do every time. Plus you need to either get 2 rubber bands or buy an etsy 3D printed fix that makes it give more pressure to your ears. Wow it has bass now lol. Getting it used for $400 is worth it. I have no regrets. Budget wise you can get a used rift complete for 350 than get this for 400. So 750. Cheaper than an Index. But worse controllers. But the tracking is better than both the rift and S. But add in another 60-70 with a good gear mod with no software calibration needed. You also have a upgrade path and more options than a rift. You can get knuckle controllers and/or the Index HMD when its not always out of stock. If you are on a budget I would say get a used Original rift with 3 sensors. If you have the $400 this is debatable because you can get a rift S or a referb from HTC for the vive. Rift S still isn't perfect. I still see people returning exchanging theirs because of issues and having the same issues with the replacement. The htc vive has an upgrade path. Everything will work with the index. I hate the oculus software personally but oculus is making killer exclusives. But I hate trying to play steam games with the rift. Also the rift/index can play oculus games but you have to jump through hoops.
Hands down the best Vive Pro review so far! Honest and very in-depth and informative. I reallty like that you also mention the system requirements confusion and the fact that most ppl with a 1060 or 1070 will need to scale down to achieve a good framerate without reprojection. And your editing is really top notch 😀 Great work Tyriel, and keep up your quality content! Cheers
Awsome review . Best review out there to date . Ive actually picked this vr headset instead of the valve index due to the amount of problems that the index has in long term gaming. Thanks for the awsome review 👍
I have just bought one from Ebay marketplace to replace my Index for this very reason. If you don't see your money as disposable and you want your VR to be an investment then the Index unfortunately is a bad buy. I hate to say it, but also Valve has good customer service during warranty but not after. They don't care. They won't take ownership of the problems and they won't fix them either. I'm on my second purchased set of controllers and am in the procecss of my second RMA of my right controller from that set with my original right controller failing at the end of warranty the first time. My current issue is due to the fragility of the lenses. Mine were scratched beyond use in a single session by something that never damaged my Quest and that I never had a reason to think would damage my Index. I'm making progress with polish but it meant having to polish the coating completely off. I just ordered more Poly watch to finish it up, but it seems like the lenses are slightly distorted or they need the coating to give the proper image. I am getting a shimmery effect that's making things seem blurry with any movement at all. If I'm still they are clear. It seems related to the fresnel rings. Finally the God Rays in the Index were always quite horrible coming from a CV1. I was surprised so little was said about them in the first months after launch...maybe because people just wanted controllers that worked. The downside of the Vive pro is that I'm still screwed if and when I have more trouble with my index controllers. As for my HMD, if the additional polish cures it I'm still going to sell it. Even if I describe exactly what was done to it it is likely to sell for as much or more than I paid for it. Crazy but good for me if I end up with no loss out of the HMD. I did the Gear VR mod on an OG Vive I bought for science just because I found the full kit for $260. It was a dramatic difference, but I never put it to much use because the distortion fix works by changing settings in the light houses and would have likely added distortion to my Index when used with the same base stations. That HMD is no more simply because it's not worth putting back together after some experimentation, but I look forward to the gear VR lens mod on the Pro with it's OLEDs. Moral of the story...if a person wants quality VR that's reliable, then that's the Vive Pro.
Thank you, thank you for giving us a mic test demo. None of the other reviews i watched did this. I'm at the stage where I'm looking for Full/lower body tracking options, and so far, either its the Vive full body tracking package, or a headset with a modified kinect, who'se drivers may not always be stable. Nothing else for full body is on the market for equivalent or less price & performance of the Vive products.
I got my Vive Pro this weekend and let me say it’s amazing paired with a 1080ti. I’ve had the OG vive since the first preorder. The Pro has totally revived VR for me.
I bought one on black Friday. Just wondering if the woble side to side really is a issue in normal games like beatsaber? Oh and how is the audio? All reviews are really killing my hype for it to arrive.
I don't agree with this review. pretty much everything I found opposite. I still think the Vive Pro is the headset to have in 2020. And even over a Index, especially over a odyssey. There is no light bleed with stock foams, in fact compared to Index there is way less light bleed, you can actually read your phone with the index and the foams are pretty damn comfortable compared to any aftermarket foams. The headphones are not as good as index, but I found the increased refresh rate a non-factor. Now that playing HL-A the OLED screens are Superior. If you want immersion, the OLED screens and blacks are much better over the index. You can't compare this headset to any of the other headsets he compares it against in this review. I mean WMR headsets LOL. Those are horrible. Go watch the HLA review on which headsets. Bottom line, this headset is 4x and 5x the headset as the others and is worth its price. The best headset IMO is a Vive Pro with GearVR lenses. Index knuckles, and Vive wireless.. boom! There you have it.
Fantastic review! I use the TPCast and cannot imagine going back to a wire, increased resolution or not. The Vive 1 resolution is fine currently. Will have to wait for a full Vive Pro + lighthouse2 + wireless kit for $999. Once you go wireless you cannot go back.
Thanks :) I actually went back to the cable after trying the Display-link wireless adapter at E3^^ Did you try the gear VR lenses mod to squeeze even more out of the Vive? it is totally worth it!
I've had my vive since it's release and I managed to get a used vive pro online at a decent price. You can't buy the index here in Australia. I already have the controllers and lighthouses from my original vive. Will probably do the gear lens mod as well.
Another Great and HONEST review. :) I finally managed to drag myself out of SkyrimVR and take a breather. So I installed and experienced TheBlu last night....Oh My God! The Migration Reef was spectacular!!! I can see how a game/demo designed for VR can really kick it up! I was totally freaked in the 'Deep' and the whale scene was so realistic, I kept moving back from him!!! OK....back to Skyrim now...haha Oh, definitely get after market face inserts. I went with a 6mm, faux leather. Easy to clean between users, and better FOV! Keep up the great reviews!
I get a sick with my vive 1 THE FIRST!!!!! . I’ve tried everything, but I can’t use it because I get motion sickness , would this model help improve this issue???. Thank you stay healthy
Great and honest review, thank you. So if this thing is meant for next gen machines to run, just think what system you are going to need to run the pimax....Ouch....
Large improvement or not, I don't know how you can go back to using the old Vive once you try the Pro. The resolution is just such an ahhhhh moment. My recommendation to people is to not try it if the price bugs them. lol
Aw man, I do miss just being able to crank up the super sampling. Even though it didn't look as good with it high it's just the placebo effect of it. lmao :)
The comment about your frame drops and reprojection isn't a software issue, it's a GPU issue. A 1080 isn't good enough for any sort of super sampling on more demanding VR games. The internal compositing resolution when SteamVR is set to 1.0 render scale is a whopping 2016x2240 on each eye... much larger than the resolution of the display and way higher than you needed on the OG Vive. Yet even at that scale, aliasing will be readily visible due to the clarity of the OLED display. 1.0 base compositor, with 1.6 render scale in games seems to be the perfect amount, but a 1080 can only push that in games with simpler graphics. I really hope Nvidia comes out with their new GPU series soon, because we are in dire need of it for these higher resolutions, and a 1080ti is outragously priced still. As for the home button, you can just use the controllers. Turn on the controllers, headset will boot up and you'll be in your SteamVR Home. The headphone issue is something they're working on, there are clearly driver level issues there with the levels. But also, there is an API developers need to use to take advantage of the ambiosonic audio capabilities. So hopefully we'll start seeing that.
I agree. Not enough of a tech jump to justify the price and ditching my old set. "For me at least". Ill wait till wireless is integrated with better displays. A few more years it will come. Process of evolution. These seem like they are for the bleeding edge enthuses that have extra money to burn on a .5 upgrade.
It looks like the Odyssey is still the undisputed king of VR right now. Or if it isn't yet, it will be when the next big Windows update is out and everyone sees how much they've improved (or almost completely fixed) any tracking issues.
Really hard for HTC to justify the Sell price on Vive Pro. Yes it is very nice Headset, but is it twice as nice as Samsung WMR? Twice as nice as the Original Vive or Oculus Rift. I would say no.
with the full kit you get the lighthouses and the controllers, with the starter one just the headset, that is useless if you don't have already the original Vive
☆Dark God Nike☆ The chord that it comes with is for the full size display port in the back of your pc. I had to order a mini-display port chord for my laptop and it works great that way too.
@@Tyrielwood alright :) if you play beatsaber, was the performance impact noticeable from the 70% more pixels. i just hope i can still record normally without having to lower the graphics. i have a GTX 1080.

Too right and it doesn’t wobble on your face and the software is better, you get games and touch controllers and sensors, you are lucky that htc give you a box to put this thing in.What are you meant to do with your slightly less resolution headset you paid a bomb for,it’s not really saleable on its own.

from what they said it's because companies were asking them to put up something better in resolution! I totally agree anyway that this could be better, but we are still talking about a 1.5 version, it's like to go from an xbox to a xbox one x, resolution jump, but other than that, same games and possibilities
Tyriel Wood yes but they are charging 2.0 prices for a 1.5 upgrade with none of the accessories the original cheaper version came with, terrible value, nobody has said its a good deal and they will only hurt themselves in the long run.
