Hands down the absolute best HTC Vive Pro review out there! The honesty, the comparisons and all the testing you cover are just one of its kind! Big thumbs up mate, you are really doing a great job!
Let me start by saying the Vive Pro is not all that, but let me point out that Windows MR headsets do NOT have very good hand tracking and in game play are very frustrating to use. I know a number of people with multiple VR systems and the Windows MR heads are ONLY good for driving and flying sim games where you are using real controls and tend to look forward not moving your head that fast and all you want is the resolution and ONLY if you have a 1080Ti. For any room scale games forget it. I know a bunch of people who have told me point blank that they only use the Odyssey for a flight simulator with a transmitter or HOTAS, but for ANY game that uses hand controllers they toss the Samsung in the the box and use a lower resolution Vive or Rift. The game play on a Rift is excellent. All this crap about being able to run the Odyssey with low end graphics cards is wishful thinking. As soon as you start to really play anything substantial you NEED a serious graphics card. Sorry there is no get out jail free card here. You can't just get a Windows MR headset and assume you'll get better performance in game play. So as a display taken ALONE, fine. As a real gaming experience, you will be disappointed. I still think the Rift is the best value. It's light, the hand controllers are the best on the market and although the Vive does have an edge in tracking the Odyssey works very well. I've used many titles at this point and only found a couple instances in "In Death" where I managed to confuse the tracking a bit, but that is a game where the MR headset completely fail. You would have to aim your arrows with your string pulling hand out to the side completely messing up your line of site.
Maybe be a good review but is nowhere near accurate. Since the microphone test you weren't even wearing the headset but you were holding it against your mouth. The popping doesn't appear if you talk while wearing it.
Also the headphone test was not true at all. The vive pros were the clearest and the Odessey had background buzzing and the original vive sounded like you were in a bottle.
And the Odessey isn't made for room scale unlike both of the vives. And the old vive you had to buy the Headphones for 100$ more but the pro includes them in the headset and the quality is better and resolution is better. The new Basestations also have a bigger distance they can scan and the controllers are more accurate and comfortable.
@@m0rph3u5. nope, that is untrue unfortunately because now we see that the pricepoint has been raised for the index to 1000 for the package "deal". Although, the quality of the headset is hands down the best out there, not enough to justify the 1000 dollar price point
Seems fair, I own a Vive Pro. I just want to mention the Vive Pro has a headphones quality bug that HTC is aware of. I also found the sweet spot to be worse on the Vive Pro than my original Vive, maybe that's just me or the higher res makes it more noticeable. Over all though I really like it.
Finally, Sebastian has the honesty and courage to state the truth..That's why I love it channel..no bullxxxx Best part the setup on the odyssey is the set up
Fantastic review - Well done... I love my Samsung Odyssey, and my original Vive -- will be skipping the Vive Pro. Btw - old Vive and Rift are both collecting dust -- Odyssey is my go-to device for sure!
The dream is the the Odyssey with the Oculus Touch controllers (the best headset with the best controllers). If they patch that in, I would get the Samsung in a heartbeat.
Great review of all three! I am biased towards my Samsung. That's because the price was incredibly good. The only thing that makes me wish I had a Vive is the possibility of using a Pimax 8k with the Vive base stations and controllers. However, prices on all the other systems will have to come WAY down before I change. I use a Ryzen 7/1700X with a EVGA GTX 1070Ti without overclocking. I set all games to max settings. I don't experience any lag or latency on the Samsung. Even during heavy combat in Fallout 4 VR or Skyrim. However, there are times the tracking goes off a bit on the controllers. It's very rare...but it has happened. My next upgrade is the velour headset strap you had on your Samsung, Sebastian. When you have the headset on for a few hours...and sweating...comfort is important. I'm only now realizing that. (By the way, I got the ProTube VR to simulate a rifle with the Samsung controllers!!! Love it too! Another great review from you.)
If anyone is seeing this thinking about buying a new vive pro, or maybe you see a sweet deal on a used one than this comment is for you. The vive pro is actually pretty sweet. Really comfortable. Now that the price is fair I think it is worth it. I would recommend used because alone it really is lacking for the original price. If you buy this sucker you should invest in 2 things right away. 1st the bass clips for the headphones. My god are these headphones hollow with out them. They also help prevent the headset from swaying on your head. It will not stop the sway completely but it dramatically improve it making it forgettable and the sound is so much better. You can actually feel the bass. You can also just 3d print these yourself! 2nd is the Gear lense mod. I would reccomend going on etsy for this. This upgrade is a game changer just like with the original vive. Plus with the resolution and the blacks this HMD really shines. I actually really love this headset. If you can get it for a good price pull the trigger. Otherwise index of course. It really sucks you have to buy aftermarket upgrades but they are worth it to make this thing top tier.
Hi Seb. Excellent comparison video between the 3 HMD's. Just to let you know and anyone else who have a Vive Pro, there will eventually be a software update (SteamVR?) that will address the lack of bass in the Pro headphones. I got this information from the moderation team of the HTC Vive forums.
Thank you so much for this review Sabastion! I have cancelled my Vive Pro order and now have a Samsung Odyssey on the way. You have saved me $1, 200 and I will have a much better product as a result. Thank you again!!
You are so welcome!! If you want to support my channel, you can invest some of that saved money here, and buy me a beer! www.mrtvelite.com !!! I would be glad to see you there!
Was clearly not a in depth comparison since in the mic test he wasn't wearing the headset like you should but he was holding microphone part against his mouth. And the popping sound doesn't appear of you WEAR the headset.
Also the Headphones were clearly the clearest on the vive pro since the Odessey had a clear background buzz and the original vive sounded like you were in a bottle. What this channel needs is a reviewer that knows how to use the equipment and has a good enough hearing and understanding of what is good quality and what is bad.
Is it just me or does the Vive pro on your comparison pictures with the animated character have a more grey washed out black look? Both the original vive and the oddessey seemed to be a truer black on that characters helmet
Good review, and I can see from the other comments that you are getting a lot of love from the world! However, as someone who is using this for vr sound design and creation, I am surprised that you do not hear the very obvious distortion in the sound of the Odyssey. While I agree that the tonal balance is better that the others, this fuzzy, crackly distortion is a deal breaker for me.
You just sold so many Samsung Odyssey's. They are sold out on Amazon now and I should be getting mine tomorrow. Can't wait to try it out. I ordered a bluetooth doggle that is coming next week though so I hope I don't need it for the controllers or I will have to wait longer to use the controllers.
Paul P Jr They will get returned. Yeah Vive is overpriced, but the tracking on the Mix Reality Headsets are bad. The camera on the Headset has to see the sensors on the controllers to track. If out of view it will lock in place.
After the update was applied, the tracking doesn't seem to be as bad as it was. Definitely worth the price of the entire set ($399) after all is said and done.
GameFanaTICK386 I would never return it. I have no problems yet with the tracking to effect gameplay what so ever. It's the best experience I had so far and so easy to set up. The controllers are so durable too cause I hit my wall with them so many times and they still work lol. The tracking hangs sometimes just a few times since I got it but not everyday. It's still tracks when I go behind my head too most of the times depends on if I am looking slightly up when I do put it behind my head. If Samsung had 1 or 2 more cameras I would say that would untouchablely the best right now but you're talking about only $400 compared to the vive pro that is $1200 full package. I am so glad I got it.
GameFanaTICK386 I heard oculus doesn't track that good with only the two sensors and still can't track with 3 that well either but that is an extra $60. Oh well he is going to learn the hard way and miss out on better clarity.
What an amazingly clear and detailed review. I like the way you talk very clear that makes me understand the whole concept of the full review. I have Lenovo MR headset and thinking to get HTC vive or Samsung Odyssey, now m really confident to get the Odyssey. Thank you so much!
The part about using Vive tracking wands with Samsung Od caught my attention! I was waiting for a solution for a good at home tracking but with a ''bring to a friends house'' solution. Awaiting your next video.
14:45 Great test, but I would add that another problem is the BREATHING. Nothing is more creepy than the heavy breathing you hear from some users, thanks to the microphone being right on your mouth on the Vive and Vive Pro. I have no clue why they thought that was a good idea.
Hi Sebastian Thank you so much for an honest review. Makes a big different to see the comparison. I wish more youtubers would be like you. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the honest review I was going to buy the upgrade to Vive Pro in two days as I was not really impressed with the resolution on the Vive they look like PlayStation 2 graphics, so after your review, I will be buying the Odyssey thanks for saving me a lot of money. One thing you forgot to mention was the weight of the Vive it is terrible after a couple of hours wearing them as they give you a bad neck ache from the poor weight distribution. Thanks again.
I just bought Samsung Odyssey after watching this video. played nonstop for like 3 hours. Played best saber and amazed by Halo recruit. and went to Machu Pichu. I couldn't do this on PSVR. 30 mins in, I felt sick with PSVR. 1 hour max. I played beat saber on vive at my friends place and loved it. the experience was not different.
MRTV - MIXED REALITY TV Thanks! The great thing you did is that you made videos of getting steamVR and oculus games work with WMR devices. Otherwise, so many WMR devices could have been returned or collected dust
Hopefully Pimax does a much better job with the 8K than they did with the 4K, the 4K is pathetic, was my first VR headset and was incredibly limiting considering it's price point. :(
Nice review :) Some interesting points brought up like microphone and headphone comparison though I have to agree that you haven't compared tracking which is one of Vive's strong points :) If I'm not mistaken FOV on both Vive's is also slightly higher.
Hi, I did not compare tracking since I see this as an upgrade from the Vive. So Vive owners know about that. I did mention however the superior tracking and that people with the old Vive can use their wands on the Samsung Odyssey as well now with some software tricks. (For faster answers in the future, you can directly chat with me on the Discord Server: bit.ly/mrtv-discord )
First of all great review, I was looking for a good comparison and you nailed it, second I have no idea what makes HTC think their earphones can even come close to AKG, they charge Ferrari prices but give you a Ford Focus. Again great job. +1 for the Odyssey
Not sure is it worth it to buy the deluxe audio strap for my Vive.. I use Razer Kraken headphones with my Vive so I'm pretty sure the audio quality from those are orders of magnitude better than what those little things on the audio strap will offer. Can the headphones be removed from the audio strap so they do not get in the way of a proper dedicated headset? And comfort wise is it *that* much better, or not much of a difference if I find the stock one acceptably comfortable in the first place? (with a total of about 400 hours across all my VR games so far and have never had an issue with comfort from the stock strap even through 4-5 hour sessions) What are your thoughts?
Hi, the comfort is that much better. It's a great strap! I haven't even tried to remove the headphones, because the audio quality is good. But you could.
Hey Sebastian! Aside from the Odissey and the Asus MR Headset, what is in your opinion the best way to hear audio in WMR? I have an HP HMD and a very good pair of earphones (the small ones that go in your ear), what's the best way to "setup" them? Thanks in advance!
@@thumbdrives1051 even if you have sli you still use the same amount of vram. For example if you have 2 1080 ti with 11gb vram, you don't have 22gb vram in use since it still only uses 11gb vram.
@@Mallagen with SLI of course vram doesn't double that would make no sense. Vram isn't the most important thing. You will have double cuda cores, double transistors. You get a bit under double the perforamnce and if money isn't an issue buy SLI. SLI and Crossfire were never intended to be Budget friendly. They are for enthusiast who don't care about price : performance.
Where do you get the Samsung Odyssey HMD for $399? At Samsungs store its at $500, and most ebay sellers are above that. The Odyssey has not yet been released in Europe it seems.
There were 3 discounts so far. They always last for a week or so before the price goes back to $499. Just click on the bell button, I will announce each discount on the channel.
Dude amazing video! I'm making a video for the Odyssey based for sim racing but I'll link your video as to it is a very good overall comparison that I think everyone needs to watch! Good stuff man
Nice review comparison, vive pro is not so bad, its also not the best,IMHO every HMD has its goods and bads, there is simply no perfect HMD. The problem with the vive pro is actually the price, just like you say in the start it's not worth the money, but it is still a good headset though. What i personally think is the reason for those price up is that HTC cat really make the money with their viveport as that would make them revenue and be able to sell the HMD with less profit. I think the truth lies more there why the price went up as they also give you subscription money with the vive pro. Oculus home however pulled it off in a way, but now with also winmr you can see that more and more VR users actually start going over to steam as it is a HMD independent platform. I guess there is where the real answer lies in this entire overpriced HTV vive story.
I have an alienware with 980s sli. Works great with the rift. Passed WM ultra but the odyssey i bought i think was broken. I returned it and i have been skeptical about trying it again. Do you think I should with my setup?
Hi Connor! Great, really glad my channel can provide some value to you! If you have any questions, you can also check out the Discord Server: bit.ly/mrtv-discord
Does anyone know any tips to have the motion controllers on Windows Mixed Reality be more consistently sensed? I have the Samsung Odyssey and the controllers periodically disappear, then I have to wait a while for them to be found. Thanks!
Owned the original Vive and also bought the Vive Pro when i use it to watch movies in BigScreen.Really fun and nice and like them both.Sadly they are to expensive to this date. But the Vive Pro fits better on the head than the original Vive. You could also get a cheaper VR experience in PS4 but it could never ever compare with the more expensive VR systems. But what people usually forget is that you also need a powerfull computer. In all, pretty expensive to be om the VR top by this date.
Great vid! Got my sub, I'm going to hold tight because i think field of view improvements are where the net gen devices will shine. Resolution is key but making fov closer to reality is an even more important step in my opinion. My only concern about the Pimax is system performance , my 1080 with Ryzen works great now but throwing 4k per eye may be tough to maintain solid frame rates. Next gen video cards will solve this however, at what price.
Yes I am German. And FOV does depend on the distance from eye to lenses. So if that gets bigger because of the glasses, then YES, FOV will be decreased.
i tested pimax 8k and seems not the final solution. Vision was akward as each monitor was not perpendicular to the eyesight and optics do not cope. Have you a different experience?
The 3 biggest problems with WMR. I have a Rift CV1 and Dell Visor. 1: FOV....smaller than Rift or Vive, as a result, everything feels more like looking through binoculars. (My biggest complaint, I feel too far away from the lenses on the Dell. 2: Lens Sharpness.. "sweet spot" is far smaller on WMR Visors.. 3: Controllers... lack of decent support in many games.. it's a real chore to use WMR in some games. Steam/WMR integration is very poor.
Okay, I don't have a Vive. I do have a Rift. On the Rift, the FOV covers almost my entire eyes, so only a tiny bit of edge do I notice. On the Dell, the lenses look like small circles, with a lot of black around the edges, like I'm too far away. It's very noticeable and makes me feel like I'm looking through binoculars. The difference between the Dell and Rift is quite large, and I think the Rift has the widest FOV right now. The sweet spot, or the clearest area of the lens is deffinately bigger on the Rift, (bigger than the Vive's, according to most), the Dell's lenses are not as good. Very small area that's in perfect focus. I think all the WMR headsets use the same lens, only Samsung has better screen. I'd be interested in the Samsung if I could figure out how close the FOV is to the Rift. I mean real difference, not just specs.
Also, I get absolutely no "pop" noises in my Vive mic when listening to it via windows loopback. You must be puffing air directly in to it when you speak which will make any mic go wonky. Also, HTC has acknowledged there is a low pass issue currently with the headphones that the upcoming firmware will fix. Shouldn't really have that issue at launch, IMO, but it will be addressed and fixed if you're worried about the audio and want the most comfortable headset out there with the best tracking.
11:34 I think the Odysee has a very slight less Screen Door effect. I am not even watching this on my computer screen and I see the difference. Just look at the bottom of the eye of the robot the grey bit and you will see what I mean. I am watching this on a 13.5" Chuwi Hi13 tablet.
In Australia the ODyssey is only 10 percent cheaper. How would that affect your value assessment? Like you said, we are probably best to wait. Or grab one of the first generation considering how cheap they are. Odyssey latency worries me with a lot of sim racers complaining about it.
Odyssey has more chromatic aberration then the vive with the same panel. Is that a lens issue on the Samsung? (In the pixel comparison - perhaps image was not in the same position?)
Hi everybody! If you have the old Vive wait for Pimax8k to upgrade. Don´t waste money on Vive Pro let them learn the lesson to listning to the customers!
Thanks buddy for your time really enjoy following ya vids, I'm really excited about vr too and to me Microsoft dropped the ball in australia vive here I come, in Australia where still waiting on the Samsung to be released.....seriously vive is all I can get
Awesome review !!! I have a Vive and an Oculus and love VR - You said you can use the Vive controllers with samsung odyssey , Now there's no reason to buy a pro, But Im going to wait for Primax :D
I'm interested in the Samsung Odyssey and the $399 price sounds good, but when I go to both Amazon and BestBuy they are still showing $499. Where are you finding the $399 price?
Although I agree that the original Vive sounds better than the Pro, the Pro's audio is much louder than the audio on the Deluxe Audio Strap. With the DAS, I could never turn the volume up high enough to be satisfied. With the Vive Pro headphones, I actually had to turn it down multiple times because it was too loud. There is an undeniable lack of bass. HTC is aware of that and is supposedly working on a drivers solution. As for the comfort of the Pro's headphones, I much prefer them to the headphones on the DAS. The Deluxe Audio Strap headphones kept popping out if I spun my head too fast. There are others in the community which experienced the same problem. With the Vive Pro, the headphones feel far more secure, don't pop out, and cover more of my ears.
yeah no offense to the other vr youtubers who are in htcs pocket. i thought it was weird how they praise the vive pro without daring to compare it to its closest competition. But if they did that they would have all gotten free vive pros. Also the youtube channels im talking about seem to refuse to ackowledge the pimax 8k. which makes the vive pro look flaccid by compsrison.
You should have someone with good hearing to do the headset test, because the vive pros headphones quality was the best and more clear. The Odessey had small background buzz and the Original vives sounded like you were talking in a bottle.
Also the microphones don't make those pop sound if you dont directly breath in them, since when you wear the headset theres no direct contact with your breath and the mic so there will not be the popping sound. Please use the systems properly before you do the comparison tests.
Seb. Thanks for your really thorough comparison. Have a question. Doesn't HTC have its own exclusive games library and are those games justification in purchasing either HTC headset? Or can the HTC library of games also be played through Odyssey? Also regards tracking, which headset out of all brands have the best tracking and controllers? How much inferior is Odyssey in terms of tracking. Sorry that was not just "A" question was it? lol
Hi Sebastian. If you take price out of the equation and your concerns over HTC’s poor after sales service (you were personally affected by ‘Sweat-gate’), is the Vive Pro the best HMD on the market? For those that just want the best and are prepared to pay for it, it would be useful to know. I thought your review was very good by the way but it left me with this one question that nobody else seems to be addressing. HTC are being bashed left, right and centre over the price but surprisingly doesnt seem to have affected the sales of it so far. Like others on here, the main thing i would miss from buying a Vive HMD (currently using a rift) is that I would miss the touch controllers. They are so god damn good. When I saw how easy it was to wear glasses with both the Samsung and Vive headsets, I know that the next VR headset i buy must have this capability. It annoys me that I cant wear my glasses in the rift. When you tested the PIMAX, were you able to wear glasses?
mixed reality TV thanks for answering the question. Interesting response. I dont think a poor mic (ive got a decent pair of wireless headphones too) is a deal breaker for me personally. With rumours flying around on reddit about new base stations coming out very soon, i’m holding fire for a little bit longer but have read quite a few posts from consumers who are very happy with their Vive Pros performance to tempt me into a purchase. However, if i had had a really terrible experience like you did with your original vive, then i’d probably swear off them for life..it’s natural. And it is offputting to potential buyers like me to hear abou that. I just dont see a better alternative (its not Samsung for me - cant speak for others) unless oculus pull something out of their hat later in the year....wouldn’t that be great?! Some people are hoping Pimax will fill the gap but their track record isnt great either.
so its got best screens, lenses, tracking, comfort and biggest game library at the moment yet is bad because microphone isnt great and headphones arent on the level of lets say Sennheiser HD6** audiophile headphones that cost about the same as original Vive itself ? ... xD what then is in your opinion the best headset on the market right now ? (and dont you dare try to say Odyssey, its tracking disqualifies it instantly ...), remember this is without considering price at all ... because realistically only real drawback of the Vive PRO is its price ... @ John Shewbrook - why would you wait for new basestations ? do you plan on having your playspace in warehouse or something ? because the only advantage new basestations will provide is bigger playspace area oh and the fact you can put up 4 of them instead of two which only affects occlusion - dont know about you but i cant make my Vive lose tracking with two basestations unless i INTENTIONALLY cover the controller under something ... what will be the gamechanger will be the new Knuckle controllers, those im buying at launch even if they price them higher than VIve PRO itself xD
Asghaad i agree with your comments. I didnt realise base station 2 was for larger play areas (mine is relatively small) so as you say version 1 units will be fine for my requirements. 👍🏻
I don't know why you'd say the pro has 37% increase in PPI when it doesn't matter at all. Assuming the FoV is identical' it's exactly 33% higher resolution.
First of all. Don't buy the Samsung, buy the original vive if you're on a budget. And can you run it? Yes, but it depends on the vr games you play on it. Not all games need as much Power as others.
It would be really interesting to see the Screendoor and Pixeldensety aswell as the Godrays Comparison also to other WMR headsets like the Lenovo Explorer, since they have less resolution but no pentile matrix displays. But the lenses look cheaper then the ones of either one of the premium headsets.
Thanky for the answer :) I have now a Lenovo Explorer. And am pritty ok with the image quality compare with the vive. But the controller tracking is desperatly shitty. I mean verry verry shitty. I can't beleave that they thought this would be good enough. My next headset woun't be WMR ;)
You should only buy the vive if you're filthy rich, and I'm not joking when I said filthy rich. I mean the controllers alone will cost you an arm if they break, and they tend to break pretty easily. The price of the full vive pro setup can get you a decent system with 1070 card (at a good bargain) along with the Odyssey unit.
This would have to be one of your best. I’m sure you know. But htc reckon they are going to release a software revise to fix audio on pro, still a rip off
Hey sebastion did your mixed reality headset ever have this problem where the left eye of the headset starts graphically glitching out and then eventually shuts off after playing for a while? Mine is starting to do that and i am worried because cant take it back since i bought it from ebay
Great review, have you got any idea why Samsung wont release the Odyssey to european market maybe you could chase them up, as i've have no reply from them
Hi Hoochi Koochi! First of all, thanks for watching all of my videos! It's a big help for the channel and also your constant engagement helps a lot to push it further! For your comment, the Odyssey definitely looks exactly the same if not actually better thanks to the improved lenses! Cheers!
Covert Puppytwo Do you have direct experience vith the tracking of the two headsets in roomscale? I still think the vive pro, if you can swallow the insane price tag, is the best of the two. Expecially in Europe, when you take in account the import costs, the lack of technical assistance, and the added cost of the vive controls for the Odyssey. This said, if i could buy it i'd give it a try.
Covert Puppytwo You can use Vive tracking with the Odyssey?! I'm new and just ordered an Odyssey but heard the tracking is garbage for room scale, if I can use the Vive base stations that would be good.

Yea, it's not like they added much even to justify the huge price hike. AND it doesn't come with lighthouse or controllers? Get out of here.

Nice job, Seb. Most honest, unbiased review of these HMD’s I’ve seen yet.
Why would anyone buy this when the way superior valve Index is even cheaper?
Hi Seb. Excellent comparison video between the 3 HMD's. Just to let you know and anyone else who have a Vive Pro, there will eventually be a software update (SteamVR?) that will address the lack of bass in the Pro headphones. I got this information from the moderation team of the HTC Vive forums.
update is out but problem is not solved yet.
Good honest review. Its a no brainer to get the Odyssey or even the original Vive with an upgrade path for the Pimax 8K.
yep, agreed!
Your in depth comparison analysis of the VIve Pro is excellent. Great video. No one does this better. Thank you.
Im glad I found you... You are honest, test well, and you give your own opinions and unbiased opinions! Amazing!
Glad you found me and enjoy my content! Stay tuned!!
MRTV - MIXED REALITY TV will do now!
thank you for the honest review. we need more youtubers like you. #realyoutuber
Thanks Rich! Now you know that you really don't need to get the Pro. You are totally fine with the devices you have!
How about severe distortion on samsung and much slower porformance on MR headset
Another fantastic review
Love your channel
Thanks robotsrule!!! So glad you like my channel! Please spread the word about it!
good review. it exposes the vive pro for what it is. are you underwhelmed enough by the vive pro considering the odyssey has better optics?
Is it just me or does the Vive pro on your comparison pictures with the animated character have a more grey washed out black look?
Both the original vive and the oddessey seemed to be a truer black on that characters helmet
Good review, and I can see from the other comments that you are getting a lot of love from the world! However, as someone who is using this for vr sound design and creation, I am surprised that you do not hear the very obvious distortion in the sound of the Odyssey. While I agree that the tonal balance is better that the others, this fuzzy, crackly distortion is a deal breaker for me.
Going on holidays next month in the USA, buying three Samsung Odyssey's. One for me and two more for my sons. Can't wait.
IAM GORT make sure to test them first...
can you adopt me pls)) and buy one for me too lol
Paul P Jr My manager returned his and got an oculus. He didn't like the tracking and other issues
You are so welcome! Stay tuned to MRTV!
The part about using Vive tracking wands with Samsung Od caught my attention! I was waiting for a solution for a good at home tracking but with a ''bring to a friends house'' solution. Awaiting your next video.
Yep, gonna show it soon!
14:45 Great test, but I would add that another problem is the BREATHING. Nothing is more creepy than the heavy breathing you hear from some users, thanks to the microphone being right on your mouth on the Vive and Vive Pro. I have no clue why they thought that was a good idea.
Hi Sebastian
Thank you so much for an honest review. Makes a big different to see the comparison. I wish more youtubers would be like you.
Keep up the great work.
Thank you Erik!
Nice review Seb; most honest reviewer on the web. Love the channel :-)
19:13 200° field of view? How does that work?
You must ask Pimax!! :)
ANOTHER stellar review. Keep up the great work, my go to VR youtube channel
Thank you BobbyBoy!
Thanks a lot for this comparisson but one question please, what about the 3d effect? Which better? Thanks a lot
Hi Dan, the 3D effect is the same on both devices! (For faster replies, simply join the MRTV Discord Server here: bit.ly/mrtv-discord )
Well Done on this review! The structure was very smooth!
Great, glad you enjoyed it!
Yes!!! Very happy that you enjoy your new headset!
MRTV - MIXED REALITY TV Thanks! The great thing you did is that you made videos of getting steamVR and oculus games work with WMR devices. Otherwise, so many WMR devices could have been returned or collected dust
I hope Pimax can deliver a good product and stake their claim as a tier 1 headset manufacturer so we can kiss HTC goodbye
(For faster answers in the future, you can directly chat with me on the Discord Server: bit.ly/mrtv-discord )
mixed reality TV Oh ok, must have missed that ^_^' Thanks for quick reply :)
can you do more outdoor tests with the wmr? somewhere wide but still tracks well. Would be cool to walk around in vr in real life
Yep, I should try again!
ok thanks, Imma expect it in ur future vids
First of all great review, I was looking for a good comparison and you nailed it, second I have no idea what makes HTC think their earphones can even come close to AKG, they charge Ferrari prices but give you a Ford Focus. Again great job. +1 for the Odyssey
I could not see the "God Rays" you mention? Is it the glow around the high contrast text that you are referring to?
I think you can just plug them into the ear... :) not much of a special setup..
Can't wait to see pimax 8k deep review.
and have fun finding the GPU to run it
Martina Crews the correct term is GPUs. SLI exists
@@thumbdrives1051 even if you have sli you still use the same amount of vram. For example if you have 2 1080 ti with 11gb vram, you don't have 22gb vram in use since it still only uses 11gb vram.
@@thumbdrives1051 sli is a waste of money because your power doesn't double.
Good stuff man
Thanks man!
great video. Thanks much. Was about to buy my first VR so this sure did help. Saved a lot of money. What is the best in your mind?
Great review! What is the Unit with 4K VR coming out called please?
Glad you enjoyed the review. Probably you are talking about the Pimax 8k ?
Hi great job ! Thank you. You say that Pimax 8k will release next month ? It´s for sure ?
in the next monthS...
Excellent comparison dude. Just what I needed to know
Nice review comparison, vive pro is not so bad, its also not the best,IMHO every HMD has its goods and bads, there is simply no perfect HMD.
When PC check tells you you are good to go i would go for it.
subbed to ur channel. best honest review so far.
Your videos were really helpful in me making my vr decision. Thank you! Subscribed.
Excellent review and comparison !
Thank you!
Yeah, without a doubt can skip this one!
Holy crap, that Samsung microphone is really damn good.
That means I don't have to use my Blue Snowball from god knows how far away.
Haha that's one of the reasons I'm switching from the Dell Visor to the Odyssey Plus
What is the software to use Vive controllers with the Samsung? Can't find any info on this.
OpenVR.
does wearing glasses decreases your FOV (on the Vive pro)? Thank you for this amazing review! Are you german?
Yes I am German. And FOV does depend on the distance from eye to lenses. So if that gets bigger because of the glasses, then YES, FOV will be decreased.
alles klar danke dir :)
i tested pimax 8k and seems not the final solution.
Your first two problems are shortcomings of Dell Visor, not WMR. Both Samsung Odyssey and Lenovo Explorer have better quality.
JiggSsaw. Most reviews put the Dell ahead of the Leveno. Including this channel. The lenses for all the headsets are exactly the same.
In this video he says Lenovo has better FOV, even though both claim to have the same FOV... ruclips.net/video/2fe3QZvpvS0/видео.html
+Covert Puppytwo I wasn't replying to you man, I was replying to MR.SPONGY LikeABoss
Very well done. I appreciate the hard work. Thumbed up.
Do u know the vive pro mod where u can replace the lens with a gear vr lenses
Zeiss lenses >>>>>> Gear VR lenses
11:34 I think the Odysee has a very slight less Screen Door effect. I am not even watching this on my computer screen and I see the difference. Just look at the bottom of the eye of the robot the grey bit and you will see what I mean. I am watching this on a 13.5" Chuwi Hi13 tablet.
In Australia the ODyssey is only 10 percent cheaper. How would that affect your value assessment? Like you said, we are probably best to wait. Or grab one of the first generation considering how cheap they are. Odyssey latency worries me with a lot of sim racers complaining about it.
thank you for your hard work!BTWwhen will we see the review of the PIMAX 8K?
Once I have the final version!
Thank you so much for this. Very helpful and clear.
Thanks buddy for your time really enjoy following ya vids, I'm really excited about vr too and to me Microsoft dropped the ball in australia vive here I come, in Australia where still waiting on the Samsung to be released.....seriously vive is all I can get
Yeah got it! But Vive is nice as well, especially the tracking!
No mention of the fact that the Samsung Odyssey is not actually available in Europe?
Awesome review !!! I have a Vive and an Oculus and love VR - You said you can use the Vive controllers with samsung odyssey , Now there's no reason to buy a pro, But Im going to wait for Primax :D
yep, PImax8k!
Has there been any improvement in the Odyssey movement latency since release?
I'm interested in the Samsung Odyssey and the $399 price sounds good, but when I go to both Amazon and BestBuy they are still showing $499. Where are you finding the $399 price?
Firmly subscribed, new to VR, the Odyssey is the way to go now.
Thanks for the sub!
A honest review of the Vive Pro? Don't you want to catch some of that sweet cash from HTC?
Haha...nope, I prefer to stay true to myself and to the community. :)
greenbag I know about that. I was just kidding around of course :).
yeah no offense to the other vr youtubers who are in htcs pocket. i thought it was weird how they praise the vive pro without daring to compare it to its closest competition. But if they did that they would have all gotten free vive pros. Also the youtube channels im talking about seem to refuse to ackowledge the pimax 8k. which makes the vive pro look flaccid by compsrison.
What about PC specs needed for all of them?
Btw, very good analysis
The Samsung tested was the normal version or the plus One?please Reply
You should have someone with good hearing to do the headset test, because the vive pros headphones quality was the best and more clear. The Odessey had small background buzz and the Original vives sounded like you were talking in a bottle.
Also the microphones don't make those pop sound if you dont directly breath in them, since when you wear the headset theres no direct contact with your breath and the mic so there will not be the popping sound. Please use the systems properly before you do the comparison tests.
I have a Samsung odessey and sometimes the boundary doesn't show up am I doing something wrong?
This is tough to say from so far away...you can turn off the boundary manually, perhaps you did that and must turn it back on the seettings!
Sorry that was not just "A" question was it? lol
No, they dont have exclusive games!
How "bad" is tracking on the Samsung? Can you review this or make a comparison?
thanks for the honest review, im still waiting for my Odyssey shipment
Hope you got it by now!
This is not a review when you think about it. It's your own experience
This is the best review ! I am now definitely waiting to upgrade my 1st gen Vive.
Yep, good call!
Fantastic review. Thank you
can we use samsung odyssey for play game with pc like GTA V or another game??
It is not the best headset on the market because the microphone sucks and the headphones are tinny. It could be the best, but it is not.
mixed reality TV thanks for answering the question.
I have a standard Vive and my cousin who wears glasses said that it pushes in on the sides of his glasses so he can't wear them with the headset.
I don't know why you'd say the pro has 37% increase in PPI when it doesn't matter at all.
Assuming the FoV is identical' it's exactly 33% higher resolution.
Thank you for your honesty and integrity.
You are welcome!
My card is only gtx 980 ... can I run this ? Smoothly or no ? ( Samsung vr head set ) thanks .. I need a pro opinion about this many thanks.
First of all. Don't buy the Samsung, buy the original vive if you're on a budget. And can you run it? Yes, but it depends on the vr games you play on it. Not all games need as much Power as others.
Very good review but dont forget that the headphones of the vive pro have 3d audio. Audio quality is secondary.
Hi! Yeah, Samsung also has that but they also have bass!!!
Jiri Rose odyssey has less SDE effect, but more red subpixel visibility. In overall odyssey better than other WMR.
Shitty? I think you have on of problem - or bad bluetooth receiver or bad lighting
I'll make some testing, before I used a bluetooth headset while playing, this didn't work nicely at all.
Great comparison pics. However, doesn't the Odyssey's picture look better to everyone else?
Well, the Odyssey has better lenses!
But htc reckon they are going to release a software revise to fix audio on pro, still a rip off
Hey sebastion did your mixed reality headset ever have this problem
where the left eye of the headset starts graphically glitching out and then eventually shuts off after playing for a while?
Mine is starting to do that and i am worried because cant take it back since i bought it from ebay
Never had this problem.
oh okay thanks for responding
Great review, have you got any idea why Samsung wont release the Odyssey to european market maybe you could chase them up, as i've have no reply from them
I also dont know for sure, probably because some contractual difficulties.
odyssey looks like it has lower res. or was this guy moving during the shot? It has to be a fluke because there is no reason why its more blurry 11:12
Hi Hoochi Koochi! First of all, thanks for watching all of my videos! It's a big help for the channel and also your constant engagement helps a lot to push it further! For your comment, the Odyssey definitely looks exactly the same if not actually better thanks to the improved lenses! Cheers!
I was under the assumption that the headset tracking of the Vive was also better than the inside-out tracking of the Odyssey?
Am i wrong?
Covert Puppytwo
Do you have direct experience vith the tracking of the two headsets in roomscale?
I still think the vive pro, if you can swallow the insane price tag, is the best of the two.
Expecially in Europe, when you take in account the import costs, the lack of technical assistance, and the added cost of the vive controls for the Odyssey.
This said, if i could buy it i'd give it a try.
Covert Puppytwo You can use Vive tracking with the Odyssey?! I'm new and just ordered an Odyssey but heard the tracking is garbage for room scale, if I can use the Vive base stations that would be good.
