THANKS FOR BEING THOROUGH! I looked everywhere to find how to activate q and w. You're the only one who not only explain how to use ripple trim, but also how to activate the key board. Often experts skip these things because they've known how to navigate this software for so long it becomes second nature so they unknowingly skip the small stuff and that can be so frustrating for Premier Pro newbies like me.
Coming from FCPX which is set as default to ripple edit, snap to cuts and scrub video at the point where the mouse curser is. I'm trying to learn Premier Pro and having a real tough time as it's not as intuitive and I'm having to try and find all the option to enable all these. So thank you for this tutorial, I at least found out one thing... 👍
Is there a way to have ripple editing by default? As in, if I drag an image/file on the timeline, it will just immediately remove the gap and snap next to the previous clip with no gaps? (to the left). My previous editing program did this, was very useful. Now I'm having to manually delete all the gaps, a little tedious.
I've been doing it all wrong all these time. Thanks to your video, I was able to produce videos faster than before. This video is very helpful for beginners like me in editing., Words cant explain how much i appreciate your work. Thank you and keep on making useful videos!
I am just starting out with premiere pro and I am literally laughing with joy over learning these shortcuts, and at myself for not taking the time to dig into this sooner. We live and we learn I guess.
Hi sir Javier, do u have a fixed solution on how to prevent trim block on video 1, 2,3... I've been struggling a lot in editing and still can''t find the solution. Thank you, appreciate your replies.
The q and w keys are gamechangers for me. But do you know if it's possible to highlight while in the ripple edit tool (b) and have it facing the left. Right now when I highlight all the clips with ripple edit selected I can't get the yellow direction to face the one I want it to go in. Hope this question makes sense.
alt+arrow key doesn't move the selected edit points here. Any idea why? (it works to move selected clip, both lateral as vertical. But not with selected edit point)
Hi Javier, I have literally been looking for an answer to this issue for over two hours and this video is the first time I'm found someone even mention my issue. I'm brand new to editing so the problem is likely me in large part, BUT, at around 2:12 in your video you mention that sometimes the ripple tool doesn't do what it's supposed to (the ripple just doesn't happen) and that's because of a clip above or below it, but you didn't expand on that. Would you mind telling me a little more about that? It seems like i have this issue or don't depending on what track I'm on as well as what's next to my clip and I'm so confused. Thank you!
@@JavierMercedes It did! . . . mostly :) First off- thank you so much. I'm still watching the videos more times to really try to get it, but I think it would help a lot if I understood the difference between the standard Ripple Edit tool that I can find in the tool bar, and the Ripple Delete tool. Sometimes it seems teachers talk about them as if they are the same thing? But other times they mention both as if they are separate. Any insight there would be hugely appreciated.
Hi Mate, thanks for your video. I'veen having trouble with clips moving when I erase a dead space. Dœsn anybody know why ? It's a solid + a caption being BEFORE the previous clip that's reached by the erasement.
I have a problem with my ripple trim tool. I've been using it for months, but suddenly it doesn't work anymore in my projects. Whenever I press q or w, nothing happens to my clips anymore. Do you guys have an idea how to fix it?
Coming over from FCP and there is something I don't get in the Elements. I have 3 video clips. I want to grab and move the clip 3 ahead of the clip 2. In FCP I grab the video and move it over ahead of clip 2, the entire row shifts nicely. In Elements, I grab clip 3, move ahead of 2 and it somehow cuts off, overrides or doesn't insert in between clips 1 and 2 and the entire project doesn't adjust accordingly. Why? It's super weird. thx
@@JavierMercedes I tried that, thx. Somehow it still cuts the footage and leaves a gap in the old place. I tried iMovie and it inserts the clips flawlessly.
Ok super confused. My ripple trim and delete is. It working with q or w and I’ve triple checked the shortcuts are correct and nothing is occurring!! Ugh so annoying how can I fix this??
The day I started using other tools than selection and razor was the day I finally ascended as an editor Also, adding to your shortcuts - map E to "add edit", that way you have all your cuts ready under qwe For closing gaps I prefer - select the clips, choose close gap, done. Much faster than the old method of the adjustment layer. But it's still good to know it in case "close gap" stops working or something :P
It seems cool, but I really don't uderstand, the pace seems too fast or maybe I have some gaps in the understanding. Maybe my level is not up there yet to be able to understand it.
You didn't explain the 'sync locks' in the timeline - this is what 'glues' certain tracks or lets them move. This is why you can't explain how to deal with complex edits (like having b roll on v2 etc ) and ripple edit. Everything is possible but yes it gets increasingly complex and ripple editing is something which is difficult to get the feel of. You don't also explain the 'trim mode' ... which is the backbone of this way of working
@@JavierMercedes if that's how you respond to someone giving you free, clear and accurate information you have already failed when you took it personally because you didn't know the information.
You know the thing you just casually skipped over at 2:22 with "you gotta watch out for that". Yeah, that's HUGELY important, and is something that will happen in EVERY edit, because nobody edits onto just one video track. It's also literally the reason the I came here. Guess I will need to keep looking
Hey philtimm! Great point, and it takes quite a lot to break down the different parts of ripple deleting in Premiere Pro so I made a video demystifying that whole process just for you. ruclips.net/video/fyMi-bk2dAU/видео.html

Q isn't working. It's instead of doing an Add Edit type of incision. You ever dealt with anything like that?
You don't need that adjustment layer, just go into SEQUENCE - > CLOSE GAP. Done. Works since CC 2018.
I just tried that and I am APPALLED! That is so much more easier than making an adjustment layer, THANKS A TON :)
I knew Adobe would have made a command for this. Thank you.
Thanks. New there must be an easier way... sigh.
Thanks Bro ☺️
AWSOME EVEN BETTER HAHAH THANK YOU SO MUCH!
appreciate how in the beginning u summarize what u'll go thru in the video first. something 99% of other tutors don't do. Good stuff! thanks!

You just made Premiere so much better of an experience for me. THANK YOU. Seriously. You have an incredibly underrated channel.
You the best Seth, hope you have a great weekend man!
Between the clear instructions, and the visuals provided, your content is top notch. Great work!

This video really helped increase the speed of my video editing workflow. Thanks!
Q & W...great tip! Thanks. How do I ripple edit two video tracks at the same time?
Awesome!! You took the mystery out of those tools I never really dared to explore. Now - on to new heights! Thank you!!
Damn son! That last ripple delete was all i needed! deff got a new follower and thumbs up!!!! WHAT A LIFE SAVER!
Omg, I can't believe I haven't used the ripple edit tool until now for almost 6 months... it's SO much easier than closing the stupid gaps!!
Wow. More informative content in one five minute video than a whole month on some very highly subscribed channels. Well done sir.
i've been a pro editor for over ten years and never thought to f around with the ripple edit. game changer. wtf.

4:05 lets say V1 is larger than A1 by 2 second at each cuts and we want V1 excess part trimmed also at one go?
Awesome man, this is going to save me tons of time. Thank you.
That preference ctrl trick is dope. Thank you

Try holding the modifiers ctrl or opt while dragging the clip to see if that accomplishes the operation you want

For sure, I cover "add edit" in my section about the razor tool coming up, but it is a must.
Thank you broo..
Trim menu in preferences is not showing in 2022 premiere pro. Anyone else has the same problem or just me?
Hi can i ripple insert

i like all the summary but the ripple edit tool fell quite a bit short here.
