39 Knives going away Big deal or business as usual

  • The elimination of 39 models of Victorinox Swiss Army Knives has caused quite a bit of stir within the knife community. But is it really a bid deal or just business as usual? And is this necessarily a bad thing for either the typical consumer or the collector?

Thanks. I'm glad you found it helpful. My main reason for doing the video was because so many youtubers were more interested in being first than actually providing the information. I was bouncing everywhere trying to find youtube channel with the list only to find out it wasn't on your tube. It wasn't until after checking other places and finding other sources to verify the the lists I was finding did I decide to do a video. It may have shown up on you tube in other places since this video and if so, I pleased that it has happened regardless of where the content creator found it. What I probably need to do is revisit this and verify if there were more products discontinued as well as talk about the new knives that have appeared. For example The Companion, for one and the Evoke; which is essentially Alox Hunter Pro with an added thumbstud.

Tobias, I liked your rambling on the discontinued Victoranoxs. I've been looking for a setup of items I wanted but didn't know the model name till now. I now know its the camper. So I found one in black and ordered one. Atleast I was able to find one before they were gone totally. Thank you Brother Tobias!

Down sizing to just the biggest sellers to max profit margins most likely the only thing going on, I hope anyway…My favorite knife brand by far.

I just hope Victorinox keeps making great knives at a good price and doesn't eventually go to crap like it seems everything else has these days. They're one of the few quality companies I can think of these days. If they need to cut, these models seem like pretty solid choices. Really enjoy your channel BTW

I commented about this on a video of yours a few weeks ago. It’s interesting to hear the full break down and explanation of some of the redundancies with different models. I didn’t know this was planned for years. I was never really under the impression that victorinox was struggling but that these models are just very similar to others and if there not selling well and have odd sizes, than it’s just bogging down production or creating dead storage of products that don’t leave the shelf. I sort of hope this gives them the opportunity to make some new models that are unlike any of the others. It’s sad to see some of them go but also completely understandable why they would discontinue them. Great video!

I wanted 58mm Manager with pen and without LED light. There was possibility to choose to carry tweezers or toothpick. Toothpick is very important for me. But now the Manager has gone away...
Now, if I want small knife with bottle opener and pen, I must purchase most expensive knife with LED light and without toothpick. 😢

I wonder if Victorinox is thinking about retooling the Delemont factory for new designs and if this is why so many Delemont knives are going away. I can almost understand why the 74mm knives are going away. I discovered the Alox Clip was the Money Clip knife. Even that 74mm knife doesn't sell well.

    • @MankindFails

@@KnifeChatswithTobias They are very costly too. In Canada you get a classic for 25 - 30$ while the Money clip is like 60$ I think it is worth it but it's more a luxurious toy than a tool.

I agree with you. Even when it comes to the Camper and Ranger with a "Camper" stamped on the knife. They didn't dump the knife, just the hot stamping of the handle. This just means the "collectors'" are going to go nuts looking for older models. Users are not really going to care.

I prefer the Executive over the Classic SD because it allows a four finger grip. Although, I broke the scissors on mine cutting off a hang nail because of a weakness in the scissor design. I choose not to use the Victorinox warranty because after paying $5 plus shipping plus insurance it cost about the same as buying another used one off of eBay for $10. Now I have two Executive knives.

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias

I have a hard time wanting to daily carry a knife I cant replace easily, but I wanted to get the walker anyways because its the smallest SAK with a woodsaw. Will more than likely hunt down another walker so I dont feel so bad about taking it fishing. I hope maybe Victorinox will bring back a few 74mm models, never picked one up and now they're hard to find.

And if you look on the secondary market you will see that lightly used Wenger knives are still quite reasonably priced. It's funny that some of the just discontinued models are going at 2 or 3 times the list price. In a year slightly used one will be selling at a much more reasonable price. Collectors are a strange breed. As soon as the knife is no longer made it becomes the knife they always wanted! LOL

The Swisstool Spirit Nr.3.0227.L the one with the serated butter blade, it's going to it's no longer available. I carry this multitool because of the knife restrictions in my country, and because it is a great multitool. That's a shame they no longer make it, because the price was lower then the other spirit models to. But I guess people didn't like the butter blade, and it may be because in their countries the law is not so restrictive. It looks like after this big purge Victorinox will only have about 150-175 models in the catalog. Interesting enough, many of the models listed are still readily available at list price. PS. The Walker is almost identical to the "My First Victorinox Knife" except the blade tip is rounded to prevent accidental stabbing. Imma getting one of them.
Scary thing is just about every 85mm knife out there has been using the Evo Scales or Evo-grip scales So are they going back to traditional scales. or are they moving entirely to "Evo Grip" These are the questions that actually bother me so.
Also, I think the "Mini-Clip Alox Executive" refers to the Victorinox Money Clip.

    • @georgelewis7154
      @georgelewis7154 Год назад

I've also thought about getting a "My 1st Victorinox" or the similar Evolution Junior 9. The greatest disadvantage I see with the rounded blade tip is trying to gut a fish. It's easy to insert a pointed blade in the anus and slice open going forward, not so easy with a rounded tip.

out of the scales. I don’t believe Victorinox has put out any 85mm Delemont knives with the normal flat scales under
