I can’t believe I’ve never washed my cantaloupes before…. I just never thought of it. Will have to start doing that!

I'm going to try your cantaloupe method, Laura! Years ago, you taught me the easiest way to cut an apple off the core and slice it for lunchboxes (or eating right away). This makes cutting apples so easy - and safe for young chefs, too.

You are so welcome and thank you for being here! I hope cantaloupes turn out great too!

I have never tried to cut cantaloupe this way, but it looks soooo much easier than the way I do it! Grabbing one from the store later so I can try it out. You watermelon method worked perfectly for me, so I know this will be easy too. thanks Laura

Cut it in half lengthwise, scoop seeds out of each half. Lay both down on cutting board cut side down, cut in 1-1 1/2 inch wide slices. Done, and no danger of cutting yourself or needing to awkwardly hold upright.
Also, cube by leaving on the rind, use a smaller knife to segment into bite size pieces, then cut off the rind straight into the bowl ❤

What if you don't have the depth perception to slice it from below to remove the rind? I end up having to lay mine down sideways with the rind facing out which makes it a lot harder to remove from the rind that way because my knife doesn't like to simply run through where the rind meets the flesh when laying down that way. Any tips?

Yes, make sure the knife is sharp and Use a smaller pearing knife for removing the rind.

Just use an ice cream scoop to remove seeds

Noo don't use soap on your fruits and veggies, they're very porous and absorb a lot of it without being able to rinse. You also don't have to worry about rinsing the rind cause you don't even eat it

Yes, you have to worry about washing cantaloupe, melon, and watermelon because any bacteria that is outside (hands, dirt, transport, pesticides etc) will go into your fruit as the knife slides into it. So yes, I use soap but you can use something else or nothing. I rinse it well. And, in the 30 seconds that soap is on the rind, it's not absorbed. Plus, it's like you said, you don't eat it.

I suppose I didn't think about how thick the rind is, it would take a lot for it to absorb the soap. As long as it's not made you sick or anything, probably more okay than I thought

No, my method is better. Cut it in half. Clean it. And then slice it. This way, you skip cleaning every part separately.

That's def. how it can be done and I sometimes do it too. However, a lot of people cut themselves this way and the video shows a beginner friendly way of using a large knife.
