Smell the bottom of the pineapple, you can actually smell the sweetness of it. An older lady shared that info with me at the grocery store. Spot on every time!
Brett from Sebastian Pineapple Ranch in FL: Pineapple ripeness: Each type of pineapple (6 usual suspects) has a different color when ripe. Most - use smell. if it smells amazing it's ready. Most ripen from bottom to top. If leaves fall out of crown - probably over-ripe. We don't say rotten LOL Try a serrated knife... works well too. Crown can be replanted in a pot for your home. Plenty of videos that show how to prep that too. Great video - Thanks.
IMPORTANT!!!! WATCH this video till the end. If you've been struggling to cut your pineapple this is the best video out there. You can't go wrong with this technique. ZERO WASTE of your fruit. Thanks a lot!!
@@jmadera_6 Try to lift the whole fruit by pulling only one leaf. If the leaf falls off then it's ripe. You'll only pull out one leaf from the one you'll buy. Hope this makes sense.
Make sure you wash the pineapple skin with vinegar water first as the skin is known to harbour listeria and salmonella and when you cut it with a knife you will transfer those bacteria to the flesh. I have not always done this but I have since learned of this. Not sure if it is truly effective at killing the bacteria but it probably helps somewhat.
I used to work as an assistant manager in a produce warehouse for Hmart. And the way we would check the quality of the pineapple was by obviously the color. And you also wanna apply pressure on the pineapple itself, if it’s too hard than it’s not ready, it’s TOO soft all around then it’s either not good or you should eat it right away, soo what you Wanna do is catch it in between.
Thanks, Home Cooked 🙂 Helpful info. One person said to turn pineapple upside down to help ripen as the sugars are in the bottom of the pineapple. Also you can put it in a brown paper bag with tonatoes, apples, bananas. These fruits give off ethylene which helps the pineapple to ripen 🙂 Remember that God loves you.
I love pineapples but I always have a hard time cutting them cuz I don't know how much to cut off and I feel like I'm always left with to much cut off and not enough of the actual pineapple pieces to eat so I'm gonna give this tip and trick a try and I hope this will definitely be a lot easier to cut
This is my new 'go to' method for cutting up pineapple. As to how to tell if it's ripe: I don't know any sure method, but I usually go by the color; when it turns from green to an almost golden color outside it's ready. Thank you!
I do it this way except A modification I made I go ahead and cut the top part off then I cut all the sides off that way did juice stays in the pineapple and doesn't get all over the place then I cut the end off after that.
How to pick a sweet pineapple: 1. if you pull a leaf and it falls off, good indicator it's ripe. 2. smell it - if it smells sweet, it's likely to be sweet inside
After removing the outside skin I slice it core and all in about four thick slices. Then I carve out the core from each thick slice. Just another way of doing it.
Set the pineapple on a table at room temperature, when you can smell pinapple its ripe, the same goes for a cantalop may take 1day may take 3 days depending on how unripe the fruit is when bought.
I have found when the pineapple is slightly brownish yellow no green and very gently tug on leaf in center of crown if it comes out it should be a good one
Inthe philippines do the same for the top and bottom or leave the top as an easy handle to hold the flirt while peeling. Thinly remove the skin leaving behind the "eyes". Turn the pineapple at an angle and with shallow v-curts remove the eyes.you will end up w slanted cuts on the fruit and much better recovery of the fruits pulp. Slice up the fruit as to your liking. This takes more patience but better recovery
You should recycle the outer peaces for organic compost instead of putting in the garbage! Same with cut up fruits and vegetables and leaves from plants. 3:08
Eventhough I hit the "Like" button. Eventhough your video helped me tremendously, I find myself wanting to watch someone else do a video on cutting pineapple. First off, you're lefthanded and secondly, that Boston hat is not good for potential followers. I mean, just like Lefties, Red Sox fans think they are God's gift to baseball. Just saying, lmbo. Nah, I'm just joking around. Thank you for your video brother, it helped me out big time. God Bless.
I usually pick the pinapple that has more yellow, and i'll smell the bottom. If i can smell the pinapple than i just buy it XD I heard though that there's a way to tell with the leaves too. How to tell if its bad or good
They're deep yellow/orange inside when they're proper ripe, I've only even gotten one pineapple. From the outside you can't smell the bottom but the most accurate way to see if it's ripe is the colour. It should be mostly dark yellow if it's ripe. Green isn't ripe
So boring, and so slow, that I had to watch this at 1.5x playback speed. And I don't get what is this obsession with removing the core? But otherwise a useful video.

I learned that for cantaloupe but never thought about doing that for pineapple!
This world is finished without wise old ladies.

Yeah but you can't go ripping off the tops of all the pineapples lol just smell the base of them, if it smells like pineapple is good to go

Very 🍍 Nice cut and i,liked pineapple 🍍 😋
It's a little easier to cut out the core part when the pineapple is quartered rather than cut into eighths.
I can’t believe it! Finally, someone who uses his left hand! I feel a kinship!
😁
I like the core! It is great snacking! It's midnight and I am craving pineaoole! Thanks a lot! LOL!
It's the best part in my opinion. I love the texture.
Good stuff, thanks for the video man.

You can boil the outer shell, let cool, then blend it up.
It's healthy as well as the core🍍
Yummy pineapple 🍍
Nice knife skills, bro.
Can try the Asian way to cut the eyes simultaneously since they are in diagonal rows.

I core with a dull knife so not to cut away too much pineapple.
A ripe and sweet pineapple is yellowish in colour and smells very good.
thank you

Don’t throw the peels away. You can boil up and make a delicious drink

You find the ripeness by plucking the center of the crown, if the leaves come out really easily then most likely it’s ripe and sweet!
You’re welcome 😁
If the leaves pull out easily
The pineapple is ripe
why would you remove the deliciuos core?
So you could chew the juices out of it.

Quartering it adds an extra step compared to the common method I've seen, but it yields more fruit in the end after removing the core.
Thank you. I eat the core. Because of that, I was through slicing the pine much quicker than your demonstration and with ease.
The yellower the better and more ripe
Hey Bob, solid video though there’s a typo in the thumbnail for it. (Go Sox)
Thanks 450k views and nobody said anything 😆
When you can smell the pineapple smell from the bottom of the pineapple
I thought the core was the healthiest part
Yes, I chew all the juice out of the core. Also, coring is now an exact science - lots of pineapple will be left on the core.
It is and I eat the core all the time. A lot of people don't like chewing their food so they believe it's not edible. If you like the core, eat it. 😊
Is it delicious?
If you want to know if a pineapple is ripe, smell it's butt. if it smells like pineapple then it's ready!👍🏻
Lmao ok.
Where they grow pineapple, you can buy a peeled one, and they cut it in a spiral pattern very fast for you. Wastes less fruit.
I dont mind the core if i find one too hard i just bite around it

Yep, should smell sweet.
The color, ripe pineapples are on the yellow side
Eyes are all same size from top to bottom, color is orange, top still green, smells lightly ripe

You should be able to smell it and it will be bright yellow and the leaves pull out

I eat the core for health reasons; it has a concentration of the enzyme
Interesting.
I’ve always eaten the core. It would never occur to me to remove it - it feels super wasteful. I’ve never disliked eating it, either.
Color and smell
When it's in the store, it's ripe.
Smell the bottom and also look for the eyes to be the same if the eyes are not the same up and down the pineapple it is not yet ripe
If you want to know if a pineapple is ripe smell it's butt. if it smells like pineapple then it's ready.
When you can pull out the center leavf
Cutting down the middle!? No can do~ I want slices for upside down pineapple cake!😢😫🥺
Buy a pineapple corer/slicer from your local kitchen supply store or online.
@@suzanneaubin7599 Why?
Your eyes are beautiful blue!
Just eat the eyes. Not sure why everyone is so picky about it.
And the core which contains the most antioxidants in the fruit and is also tasty
Interesting
You pull the gently grab one of the green leaves and pull up not hard should come out if it doesn't its not ready
is this patched?
Not sure why everyone has to cut out the core? Core haters out there…
Because I think people say that the core is hard (I think also is harder digest I could be wrong)
@Capuchin-king-the-21th lazy teeth really.i love munching on the core.
How you know it’s ripe is take a bite out of it. Be sure to put that piece back because people may want to buy it.
smell bottom of the pineapple
Lord Jesus, stop talking so much & just cut the pineapple. I couldn't take this one ,so I moved on to Ree Drummond.

low energy and waste of time 5 min to cut a pineapple?
ill go watch a 30 second short
If you can clean and cut up a pineapple in less than 5 minutes, you should record it and post it on YT, otherwise, STFU.
It doesn't look like apple, nor taste like apple, why naming it pineapple ?
5 minutes.... LOL
