  • How I broke down at the New York City Marathon 2023. This is my experience of the tough but awesome NYC Marathon 2023. Watch the race, see how I went, see all my stats and experience the expo and transportation to Staten Island to start the marathon on the The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.
    🏃‍♂️ You can run NYC too! Check out the brilliant work Team For Kids do and maybe enter as a TFK runner yourself: www.runwithtfk...
    This year's event, held in the heart of New York City, showcases a diverse array of runners from around the globe, competing on one of the world's most prestigious marathon courses. Running though Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, The Bronx and into Central Park. Whether you're a marathon enthusiast, a seasoned runner, or a New York City fan, this is such an iconic event.

    Nicely done. Never mind about the time. In case somebody tells you a real marathon runner should run it in the 3 hour range you can always say you ran it in 3 hours and 112 minutes.

    Well done on finishing!
    Spotted myself at 7:29 (green and gold Australian visor and blue singlet) just in front of you waiting to start.
    The Australians you saw at 8:56 were the group, Travelling Fit, that I got my bib through. They were out there cheering us on. There were about 200 Australians that went through them.
    That was my second marathon and first in NYC.

      @@stef747I found them good to work with. There were over 200 people that booked through them for New York, that includes supporters. Some people used them purely for entrance into the marathon and were never seen, while others took up everything they offered. I liked that they transported us to the start line, the coach picked us up from in front of the hotel. They go to all the big marathons around the world including all 6 majors.
      I found them on the NYC marathon website (search for ‘international tour operators’), there were 6 to choose from for Australia.

    Superb effort. Well done!. I have spoken to a dozen people who ran the New York City Marathon and they all say the same thing. It's a long ole day. For most, it was six-eight hours of travelling and waiting around before they finally set off. The first mile is a real wake up call. The climb on the bridge and all the doubts whether you can do another 25 miles kick in. Then the next 10-12 miles is really good and you start feeling really good about the whole day. Then a couple more climbs and you are broken and then it is just how well you can do 12km when everything is broken. Dont worry about the time. I mean if you got 4hr 00m 41s then I can appreciate you would be pretty ticked off. You have set yourself up that if you ever did it again, you have got something tangible to beat . . and that is what today was all about . . . setting up tomorrow's goal !

    • @stef747
      @stef747  10 месяцев назад

      Oh wow, that's such a positive and motivating response. Thanks so much for that Paul. You're right, it's something to beat if/when there's a next time, and honestly the only person I want to beat in the next race is me from this race. Thank you again, I do appreciate that.

    I have run a number of big city marathons, including New York, Paris and London. New York was the hardest I did. The terrain is definitely harder than most city marathons, but it was emotionally draining in NY. Everything about it, not least the incessant noise. People say crowds cheering must really help. They don’t cheer in NY. They yell, whoop and bellow right into your ears and face. I had to move from the edge of the road to the middle just to survive. And just when you think you are nearly done you have the last 7km through Central Park. The gentle undulations the days before are mountains now! Well done Steff. I still think back to my run there in 1999.

      Richard Wilson -- Don't criticize my fellow New Yorkers because they "yell, whoop and bellow" - appreciate them because they are willing to come out of their homes on a Sunday morning and try to make your race feel special, when they could have just slept in and ignored you.
