I think copying is a ill chosen word in this case. There are obviously some clear referees to silly symphonies cartoons and early Disney Walt era animation BUT Disney is worse than Stickler about anything and everything they have copyrighted and will sue people at the drop of Scrooge’s lucky dime, I so I would say this is more of a number of HOMAGES that are fully allowed by the Disney company because they no longer have any interest (sadly, actually, heartbreaking for me) in pursuing any 2D hand drawn animation despite there clearly still being an audience for it, so they are allowing Netflix and the creators of Cuphead to respectfully reference classic cartoons that are probably beloved favorites from the childhoods of the creators like “The Skeleton Dance” and the recent Christmas episodes. Regardless, copying is a rather crude and inaccurate way to label the tributes to 1920s and later animation that are being portrayed here because it could not happen without an agreement between the two companies and would not have been allowed to occur without said agreement when these scenes do occur. Also, you might just be dealing with people like myself that grew up loving these cartoons and want to go on making them or something like them when they grew up but since Disney is now all live action and CGI they found ways to legally incorporate little respectful nods to the cartoons they grew up with that inspired them while working with another company that still uses the types of art they want to create.
