THANK YOU....THANK YOU....THANK YOU ! Gold star for being so kind to document exactly what I'm doing this weekend. Just bought a slick little Garmin and wanted to run power to it from the mirror....You're my hero, Thanks again !
Thank you for the video! I'm going from a manual mirror to an auto dimming one and this video helped me tremendously! Random question though; I bought the auto dimming mirror from Mopar but there was no wiring harness included in the package or anywhere on the website. Would you happen to know how I can wire it in myself on my Jeep JT?
Mr. Phillips: why does your mirror look different than the one with my 2018 JL Sahara? Is their some model or feature of the JL one factory orders to get your mirror or did you get it from the dealer or aftermarket once your rig left the factory in Toledo? Thanks. I'm wondering if the wires are up there for simplier rear mirrors like mine.
we purchased a Rubicon package and I believe it does come with a different mirror. It has the dimming capability. I had forgotten that other models did have different mirrors.
In your experience, does hardwiring the dash cam drain the car battery? Especially cam that has motion sensor while parked? I’m getting a dash cam for the first time and wants the parked feature but that’s one of my concern.
I actually have only wired them up to be on at the same time the vehicle is. The amount of energy used to record a small camera is very minimal and as long as the vehicle is started every few days i would not expect an issue. IF you park for more than a few days, i would look at adding an off on switch into the motion setting so when parked for days you could turn it off if it was an issue.
Many of todays dash cams (e.g. Blackvue and Blacksys models) have 3 wires, ground, battery (always energized) and accessory (energized only when the vehicle is on). During times when only the battery wire is live (i.e. the rig is turned off) many cameras go into parking mode where they not only consume even less power than the low levels they use when the rig is on and in motion, but monitor the rig's battery and shut off at user programmable thresholds.
No, the Pink/ Yellow wire was only hot when the vehicle was turned on. If i recall, (its been awhile) there was a constant hot also, but i did not want the parking mode option turned on. I think the one next to the pink and yellow was the constant on which supplied power for the lights when turned on, but use a volt meter to test.
Did you ever figure out what wire is hot all the time? I don't have a volt meter to test and will never use it again if I buy. I just want to attach for parking mode as well
I have not been back in to check, and sadly I live in Wilmington NC where we just got hit with a hurricane and I have been working non stop trying to get things back up and running.
Do you mean of it installed or the video quality? I have a few other videos that do cover both. I did not show driving video of this one because it is behind the tiny layer and it looks really dark but still enough to show what happens in a wreck .
@@ajphillipsjeeps Thank you for the reply After I posted the question, I realized I should have been more specific. I actually was wondering how the back side of the actual mirror can be removed. I believe you might be thinking that I was wondering about the back of the stem of the mirror.
Did you watch the video all the way through, about 3/4 the way I show it coming off, it will go in and twist with a flat head screw driver assisting you
I tried changing the main search screen to a better photo, hopefully that gives a little more clarity on what it looks like. it is hard to get a good picture due to the location. All I did was cut a small hole that the mount fit in and used silicon to hold it in place.

Yeah good job on showing you put it back together. Great “install”
Glad it helped.
Sweet! Thank you! Gonna try wire taps for radar detector
Should be the same way for you, and gets it up out of the way
Great info!
Thanks, Glad it was helpful!

I am not 100% sure on that. I would start by finding the wiring diagram and see if it needs more than just a positive and negative.

What dash camera are you using and did you use splicing connectors to wire it in or how did you wire the camera up? Thank you
I used the thinkware F50 and I soldered the wires to make sure I did not have connection issues

I am having problem putting the mirror back on, any suggestion
I’m having a hard time getting the whole panel off. Do I have to take the roof off to get better access? I just don’t wanna crack the panel
you do not have to remove the top, but it does help to get your fingers in there or even a long screw driver to help pry a little.
Is the pink/yellow wire hot all the time ? I use the Goluk T3 camera and will need a constant 12V source for the parking mode.

Can the mirror/frame be removed from the holder? That way I'm just left with the part that attaches the mirror to the Jeep.
I'm not 100% sure honestly.
Would like to see a video of the final product

1 more question, can you open the back of the mirror without opening the top like you demonstrate?
deliemma yes it will come off without removing everything.
@@ajphillipsjeeps How would you remove the back of the mirror?
@@CheaperJeeperTV if I recall it just slides up and out.

@@CheaperJeeperTV I am unsure of that since I had no reason. To remove it.
this is a great idea but this video cuts off early. Why didn't you show the whole installation?
I think when I recorded it, I had already done the install so I was working backwards to get the info that was needed.
can’t reattach my mirror can you please help!?

Got it thanks
Great video by the way !!
@@alexortiz1219 thank you, glad that you got it taken care of.
please show us after installing the dash cam
Abdulla Alremeithi the video didn't come out right showing it, but I will do a followup on the camera part itself.

can you do a video how to reattach it please :'(
If you go to 55 seconds, and watch the removal, it is just the exact opposite. You push it into place and using a flat head, turn to the right.
Ok now put it back mine popped off and idk how to put it back
Nvm I got it just got to put it in side ways and then twist
@@lenity4208 glad you got it, took me a little while to see the comment.
