    • @MotorCityMechanic

      I dont have any experience with any aftermarket ones. There is a upgrade coming out in the next month from the 5.0 inch to either the 7.0inch or 8.4 inch. Not cheap but will be OEM and work seamlessly as if you ordered it that way. infotainment.com has all the details.

    Thanks for the video. I was chatting with Brandon, The Jeep Informant, and he recommended this video so I could find power for my brake controller. I was able to get the brake controller all wired up, but I can’t seem to find a pedal signal wire. I self installed my Mopar tow harness/hitch as my JL did not come with the tow package. Unfortunately, because it didn’t come with the tow package, it does not come with a harness for a brake controller. Brandon provided me with a photo of the wiring diagram and of the pedal signal wire that I needed to tap into, but I’m still not having any luck. My brake controller works fine when I use the manual switch on the controller itself, so I know everything is working correctly, but I just can’t seem to make it work when pressing the brake pedal. I’ve posted in multiple forums and have not had any luck. Wondering if you might have some thoughts on this. Thanks!

    Nice to see they were able to really step up interior quality without making it hard to take apart. My JK was simple to do interior stuff on but it wasn't much to look at. haha.
    Some of the interior plastics are nuts. I have a Grand Cherokee now and I hear that the big trim piece around the radio/climate controls is like $700+. And that's for a cheapo hunk of plastic on a Laredo trim. I can't imagine what trim costs in some of these models with fancy wood, carbon fiber, etc.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 лет назад

      It sure is a step up on the interior appearance. I wonder the price from time to time when I try to get some of the hard panels off.....one opps and then there goes my wallet lol. Thanks Mike for watching man!

      @@MotorCityMechanic I don't have heated seats, but everything else works. I'm in the process of installing the wifi antenna and the Alpine pss 23wra. So hopefully this weekend I will see how it reacts to the wifi and what VIN it gives me when I set up guardian. I bought a take unit and had the anti theft code, so I'm not sure if it reset itself or not when I first put it in. Or if having the battery unhooked while installing the new sound system if it will reset when I turn everything back on, if that makes sense.

      Havent had to remove it yet so not too sure all that needs to be removed. If your speaking of the panel in the right side of the dash then it requires the passenger airbag assembly to be removed being that they are attached to each other. I will keep it in mind as a possible future video.

    Call me crazy, but it feels to me like the merger with Fiat was a good thing for Chrysler. Much like AMC did a lot for Chrysler in terms of improving quality 30 years ago. The way this JL is put together and comes apart seems like a step up from the dark days of Benz junk.

    • @MotorCityMechanic

      They over time keep improving the quality and fit and finish for sure. Evolution at its finest! As far as Fiat versus Diamler....there is still that European influence that comes across that I dont always have a fuzzy feeling about.

      I think the kiddie engineers added little whiz-bang features into the new Wrangler just so that they could put it on their resumes. :(
      We don't need a computer controlling the starting of a vehicle. A key has worked well enough for MANY years and there is no reason to change it. The wiring to the rear brake and signal lights has gotten overly complicated in that it also gets controller / monitored by the computer and you can't just splice wires and put in a trailer wiring harness.
      And although you can still take the doors and roof off, it doesn't look like a Wrangler anymore when you do that, it looks like a unibody SUV where you just cut out the panels between the support portions of the unibody.
      Also, it's gotten big. The 2-door Wrangler is only 0.3" shorter than the 4-door Cherokee (XJ) that I used to own.

    I didn't see a standard antenna plug? Does the 2018 JL use the standard 1 pin antenna plug, or something new or proprietary?

      Yeah no more connector that you might have been used to in the past. They have changed the design.

      This design has been used since 2010. It's been a minute since youve seen behind a factory radio huh? Requires a standard pac part baa22 adapter

    Can you replace the 7 inch radio with the 8.4 inch radio. In a Jeep JL Sport or sport S.

    • @sircam6
      @sircam6 5 лет назад

      James Keith yes but the radios are vin locked, so you would have to order a radio from www.infotainment.com/products/2018-2019-jeep-wrangler-jl-gps-navigation-radio-uconnect-uaq-4c-nav-upgrade and have the dealership vin code it it to your jl

      Not 100% sure but I dont see why not....you will need the SAT antenna to make it work however.

      There is always that unspoken rule lol. They have always been very supportive of the channel which is greatly appreciative for sure. But I am sure that if I did break or damage something.....that would be the end of that lol.

    Unrelated to the Jeep. 1999 D2500 Van with the updated 318 is using excessive oil. Motor purrs at idle and running even before the Cat was replacement and that's when the gauge started bouncing then zero's out. Of course, the van is shut off and parked for awhile. No signs of sludge or oil burning at the tailpipe. No visable leaks. The kid who owns it is going cross country. 5 hours of driving, 2 plus quarts. Lucas hasn't had an effect. Forums haven't been of much help. Just lots of angry Mopar owners.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  5 лет назад

      On that older model.....it should have a 5.2 or 5.9. Typically what I find when it uses alot of oil other then a warn engine is a blown baffle gasket. That intake has a metal plate underneath and a gasket. That gasket can blow outward over time and allow the engine to "sip" oil. I have replaced a many of those a long time ago when they use to show up at the dealership. Thanks for watching and for commenting. Make sure to subscribe.

    Anything coming up on chain driven water pumps? Chrysler seems to have learned, Ford has not. When all the Fords start blowing those water pumps, there r going to b a lot of happy Ford customers

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 лет назад

      Yeah internal waterpumps were something I never liked.....the older 2.7 was that way. Luckily we have been staying away from that set up and mount ours external.

    How in the world are there no comments yet on how bad these radios are? I know you made a disclaimer, but that is BS. I’ve owned multiple model year jeeps and this radio is dying on everyone. It is not one trim level either, it’s all of them. My JLU has one right now that won’t turn on and all my accessory powered ports are also dead. 3000 miles!! Check the JLwrangerforums and you will see how many people are truest affected.

      It’s funny how a lot of people appreciate the detailed info and complain how other videos don’t give enough and then other people say you give tooo much detail. One thing I have learned after 410 videos is that I have a way of doing things and have modified the way I film videos for a reason. You may like and you may not. I think in the end the point is showing how to do something and the more info the better. To each their own. So I take your comment in hand and appreciate but don’t expect me to change the way I make videos. To someone else....that info might be important.
