@@mukkeFacil_ thx for watching my videos!!

Thomas Haake from the band Meshuggah playing their song "Bleed"
Another great one, Marthyn! Would you please do a video on one of my favorite drummers of all time? Mike Heller from Malignancy? Thanks man!

Matthew Greiner from August Burns Red
I double this
Jonas Hirche yes
His drumming on the song Ghosts is amazing
Yes please!!

I didn't expect to see Chris here. What a pleasent suprise!
A lot of drummers asked for him...
Chris is my favorite drummer, and I think one of the most talented musicians in modern core and metal music
I feel like you'll love checking out Matt Halpern from Periphery. Such a talented drummer, so many great things about his performance
Oh my god am I glad you finally watched Chris! I've wanted this so long because hes SUCH a great drummer tbh
I'm not a drummer, but I really like these reviews. I find it interesting that foot technique, grip, and a few other technical elements are always discussed, but we never really hear much about the different ways the players split up the beats, choose their cymbal hits, and the like. Maybe it's assumed on these that they have great skills at being mathematically astute and doing all the classic drummer stuff. I'd be interested in a "what I look at when I critique drummers" video, if you ever found time to do such a thing. Non drummers, I think, would find this really intriguing, as we can't always trust ourselves to know more than if the drummer is enhancing the song and playing on the beat. Maybe "Evaluating drum performance for non drummers", if such a thing is even possible. Regardless, love the channel, and thanks for all your time and expertise.
The only video I can think of where he talked about splitting up the beats was the Fleshgod video because of him syncing the cymbals to the symphonic element and his drum work to the guitar parts.
I literally saw Oceans Ate Alaska in Pennsylvania yesterday and they were SO AMAZING!
This is awesome, great analysis of his playing. I wasn’t expecting you to do this. But I’m so glad this video came out!
Dude i bought his webinar and you really nailed alot of the technique stuff that he talks about. Sitting high on the throne, using his hip flexors on double bass, french grip, heel toe. You also noticed him tapping on his leg with his right hand, ive watched this vid a shit ton, and never noticed it.
thank you!
Lars Ulrich just for the fun of it
SavageDab69 yeah man I’ve been thinking about Marthyn watching a Lars video! BTW here’s the link Marthyn: ruclips.net/video/Ec4RcNM5-ao/видео.html
Good Lars and Bad Lars comparison. See where it goes wrong.
He's said before that he wants to do Lars but that he just needs a video. I looked on RUclips and it's actually hard to find videos just on Lars.
Lars with Sad but True. ruclips.net/video/oQIpN-jmI34/видео.html
A video with lots if Lars recording their last album, not just one song. ruclips.net/video/7V9l0eTduv0/видео.html
Lars is an excellent drummer. The ppl who criticize him don't understand drumming or music in general.
Chris turner is a huge inspiration for me. (As a drummer) i've learned so much from him. Im 23 and self taught so i look up to alot of drummers and am always amazed at how and what they play. Chris blew me away when i first saw his videos. It was really great seeing your analysis on him. And seeing you just smiling away as he played. Another great video. Thanks for checking him out and thanks for another awesome video :)
I've been waiting for this video... Awesome!

I love Cattle Decap and Dave, although he triggers the shit out of his kit I think :D But I guess that's just understandable at these speeds.

He called it, *Ninjutsu!* lol
Seriously underrated comment.
I have the same look all the time lmao
Great review man. Really loving these videos! Keep at it.
Thx alot!
I really enjoy your videos. It's great watching someone with passion and enthusiasm break down drumming like you do.
Thank you very much...
Marthyn Jovanovic Not a bother mate.
Have you checked Bard Kolstaad (from Leprous) yet? He is great
Yes...but pls be patient- one drummer at a time
Spencer prewitt of archspire. The dude sounds like a machine gun
That dude is sloppy as fuck
I no nothing about drums but the dude sounds insane. Sloppy or not its amazing to watch tho.
He uses triggers
Aaron sisco triggers, use samples. Not just a dry sound from the bass drum. It can sound clicky, it can make it sound like an 808 for hip hop. Spencer prewitt has powerful single strokes. But he also uses other techniques, triggers dont mean anything. Stop saying stuff you see other people say on the internet. Dont think someones comment on a 12 year old video is factual.
i was lucky enough to see them the one time they came to canada and I was blown away one of my favorite metal bands for sure.
So glad I found this channel!
I can't believe I forgot to suggest this one. It's Lyle Cooper from The Faceless playing Planetary Duality. I remember this got picked up by some RUclips video as proof he was possessed by the devil because he played it mostly with his eyes closed. Definitely a unique play through.
ruclips.net/video/6jLXxqj8pso/видео.html
will do...but pls be patient- one drummer at a time
Lyle cooper is another guy with the ZONE face
Holy shit, that guy's nasty
I've loved watching this video over the years. The time he death glares at the camera cracks me up.
Yeah,I remember that from way back,he does look possessed haha. Great drummer nonetheless!
Chris is amazing. I was mixing a show where they played and his consistency is just out of this world.
I'm glad you mentioned his heel toe technique as I was sure I heard little snippets of 32nd notes when he was playing 16ths on the kick.
Also interesting you said he wasn't using triggers but still got a lot of clarity with the 32nds using heel toe.
Hahaha, "...on RUclips of course..." xD Busted!
"Hip Flexors" x1000 😅
How I was waiting for it !
I love how you point out little things such as him hitting his leg to keep quarter notes and his seat positioning
Have you thought about watching his drum playthrough videos made from their last album, Hansha?
I prefer live videos...
There are better songs that he plays
Please check out Ken Bedene - Bit by bit play through. The most effortless-looking drummer out there.
will do...but pls be patient- one drummer at a time
I second this. Ken is phenomenal.
Recently saw Ken play in Slovenia... The little dude is a tornado behind the kit, an assault on your senses, very aggressive yet tastefully mastered!
Yessss one of my favorite drummers
prob my fav drummer at the moment. Love oaa and he makes every track super fun and interesting with his drums and time signatures
I'd love to see your reaction of Chris Adler!
will do...but pls be patient- one drummer at a time
@@drumtechniqueacademy yay!!! Thanks teacher!
I hope you do Derek roddy. I sent a link last video, hopefully on your list.
will do that at one point...one drummer at a time :-)
Yes..totally agree! Derek 'One Take' Roddy also my waiting list.
Roddy would be pretty cool. About 10 years ago he was a death metal god, but it seemed like he got pretty disillusioned with the whole scene (not the music, just the scene/touring). I was always really fond of this clip of The Victorious Reign where he blasts on a side snare whilst playing a backbeat.
ruclips.net/video/ZX4ch2Icv2s/видео.html
What a pleasant surprise seeing Chris Turner here. Thank you for pointing out those things because I’m not a drummer, just someone who likes OAA and never think about those little things only fellow musicians can point out. He definitely has one of the most powerful kicks in the game when I saw his DW Entrapment playthrough.
Love your videos. It would be interesting to hear a breakdown of different rhythms and patterns the drummers use. I'm not a drummer, but I love music theory.
Can you do a react video to Nic Pettersen from Northlane please!?
You should look at Aaron Kitcher from the infant annihilator band
This
aaron has no live video cause he cant play her stuff

@@nonbeliever3169 Thanks for the suggestion!
@@nortongartino4602 Welcomed sir.
Love this band
4:00 THAT’S WHY I LIKE CHRIS, all out. And, do you think he needs 2 bass drum? to make it more maximal
I dont play drums but i play guitar so my question is what type of cymbal is the one with the tiny holes called and why do they have holes for?
godofwar0678 the cymbal on his right is china cymbal. its used very often in metal drumming. the holes are to make its Sound dryer and kind of shorter
The holes aren't specific to the type of cymbal but this one is a china, the holy china from sabian. The holes make the cymbal sound dryer, more explosive and it also affects a bit the pitch and the overtones depending on the size and the spacing between the holes
Great channel great video
I am not even a drummer and I am completely obsessed with these videos!
What about brann Dailor? ;)
Maybe do some Buddy Rich ?
Yeah some jazz would be great!
"Do you see how he stops the song to verbally assault his band?"

Chris Turner came to my uni and did a drum clinic. It was insane!
Best serie in that kind of videos.

Amazing
My arms hurt when I watch him playing. His playstyle is so stiff. I don't think there is any technique that people can learn from him tbh.
i would agree..looks like his arms are totally locked up..but what can i say really, hes a much better drummer than me,haha
Did you Check out any other videos of him ? :)
Truth be told even if he looks super tense he’s really not. I’ve spoke with him and seen him play in person, and he says he experiences no pain or stiffness from his technique. he just gets really into it and focuses and ends up looking rather awkward
THANK YOU MARTHYN!!
Thx for watching my videos 💪
Very good analysis. I always wondered why I could play easier double bass with a higher seat height! Very good video!
Thank you
Super channel. If I may only ask, what kind of training set do you use in the episodes? Cheers
I never really heard of this guy but wow he's really good
HELL YESSSS such a good drummer
Far out he's got some power in those strokes. Even the fast ones!!. Imma check out some other vids of his now.
You should do Travis Orbin next! He is one of my all time favorites too! Awesome vid as always!
Great videos.
thank you
Would love to see you analyze Nick Pierce of Unearth. Incredible technique to watch with his traditional grip.
Gr8, m8. This is so enligthening.
Dude! Deine Videos sind geil! Hast du zufällig etwas von Steve Carey (The Color Morale/Senses Fail) gemacht? Er ist wundervoller Schlagzeuger und auch sehr spaßig zu schauen.
Despite having a somewhat rigid look about him, this guy can pound on the skins. Some really interesting fills in there, utilizing all of the limbs.
Thanks for highlighting this guy. Cheers:)
I would love to see you review Josh Manuel of Issues. He's a really versatile drummer, and it would be interesting to see his technique broke down. Great video, by the way~
Just found your channel, awesome idea for video series! Some suggestions for the next videos: Matt Garstka, Matt Halpern, Tomas Haake, Nathan Camarena, Mario Duplantier
Thx alot!
Josean Orta from fit For an Autopsy. He's an amazing drummer that has a lot of Jazz influences even though he's a deathcore band. His stuff is really interesting!
I'm a guitarist but I love your videos, I'd love to see you do a video on Virgil Donati.
Great drummers and excellent channel! Very addictive and helpful. Would be really cool to see an in depth analysis of the beast Max Kolesne. Or to get him talking on the Technique podcast.
I would love to watch you analyse Aquiles Priester - Shadow hunter for the fun of the drums setting and paraphernalia...
Hey marthyn, I'd be interested in seeing your analysis of Bastion Thusgaard, new soilwork drummer, taught by the mighty Dirk Verburen, maybe a double, comparing styles in the same songs
Just found your channel. Good stuff. If you haven't already, PLEASE react to Chris's drum playthrough of Escapist... it is insane!!!
Chris is such a beast drummer!!! One of the best no doubt 😜
Chris Turner is a beast!
Deine Videos sind der Hammer, danke dafür! Würde gerne deine Reaktion zu Branden Morgan von Misery Signals sehen!
Great video. Dude is ripped!
Thx...and true that
Hi, Marthyn! I would like to watch analysis of Craig Reynolds from Stray from the Path or Dan Searle from Architects!
Two requests. Zack Hill and Frost.
Love these videos! Thanks!
Hey Marthyn it was awesome to see you do Chris Turner as he’s one of my favourite drummers. I would really encourage you to check out Jamie Saint Merat from the NZ band Ulcerate. Not in all my years of drumming have I seen anyone play like he does, he is a machine. There are some great live videos of him playing too! Thanks
Just search his name and look for either “Dead Oceans” or “Cold Becoming” - both great vids
Hello from the Philippines😁 please review Josh Manuel of ISSUES I really love his attitude😊
You should review one of Northlanes drummer- Nic Pettersen’s playthroughs. He has an awesome play through of the song ‘Solar’ or a live one of the song ‘Dispossesion’
You have to review Tony Westermark from Soreption. Very unique style. Probably one of the best swivel techniques i've seen.
And now listen to that killer bass drum attacks - sounds so much better without triggers!
Awesome video! Please do one of Kyle Brownlee! Probably the tightest drummer in the hardcore genre out there.
Chris Turner FTW
Broken Soul or Defensless by Adam Gray! He has vids of him doing play throughs for both songs.
Ich feiere deine videos. Mach bitte weiter so. Könntest du mal ein reactionvideo zu Jocke Wallgren machen?
Suggestions for drummers i find interesting, that you may wanna check out:
Dave Haley from Psycroptic - Reason being that i love the way he plays along with the accents of the guitar. Really brings the music to life (Lacertine Forest is a good example)
Alex Rüdinger - He's a super solid drummer and has excellent technique. I especially love the drum videos where he plays The Faceless songs (also good ones with Necrophagist and Obscura)
Hannes Grossmann - Speaking of Obscura. The work he did on their Cosmogenesis album is so tasty! Very progressive drummer, too.
KRIHM - Absolutely amazing drummer. Super tight, great technique and has some interesting ideas as well. I can recommend a video of a song he did with Redemptor. Some cool stuff in that one.
Spencer Prewett from Archspire - The music in Archspire is crazy fast and technical which his drumming reflects. He has some really unique ways to do things, including his blasting. There's a good video of him playing their song "Lucid" which shows off most of his techniques.
David McGraw from Cattel Decapitation - the guy is an absolute mad man and plays for one of the best metal bands around. That's pretty much it!
Hope you will look into these and maybe give your take on them. I'm not a drummer myself, but i'm a bass player so i notice a lot of rythmic things drummers do, but it would be really cool to get a drum teachers take on these drummers, since i really, really love their work!
Kai Hahto from Wintersun: Pearl Artist Kai Hahto/Wintersun - Sons Of Winter And Stars Drum Cam @ Nosturi, Helsinki 13.10.2012
It would be awesome to hear your opinion on Billy Rymer
How are you liking those pearl redline pedals, I just got me a pair a month ago.
I really like those!! great pedals (although I still prefer regular old tama iron cobra juniors)
