I'll always be a follower of your work man! I'm a guitarist for about 5 years now but the day I saw your band and watched a lot of your drum playthroughs, now I also want to try out drums! KEEP IT UP MAN! GREAT WORK! You're an absolute machine!
Loved it! We have a new interview series call Conversations in the Shed. Love to have you on. email me: david@musicshedct.com if you're interested Chris.
Chris is a god-tier drummer. He’s an embodiment of focus/practice/talent/passion manifested in pure physical strength. I can’t imagine the endurance and precision it takes to do it at this level. What sounds like absolute chaos to most is actually absolutely harmonious precision
this man is a pure monster on the drums. playing for oceans ate alaska, i am abomination as well as his solo work. Its mental. I believe he also plays jazz and provides drumming lessons. pure dedication.
Some things to notice: One of the reasons he's able to move his feet that fast on the double bass - notice how HIGH he's sitting. His thighs are sloped down, it's almost like he has to bend his toes town to even reach the pedal. This allows his feet to move a lot faster, but it requires a pretty insane amount of thigh and calf strength/endurance, not to mention a lot of training to get your feet to move with that level of precision. Also, because of how high he's sitting (I'm assuming, It looks like he doesn't really want to have to look up very often), his cymbals are actually tilted away from him. That way he can still get the bolder sound of the side of the stick hitting the cymbal without having to be as precise. He probably breaks cymbals all the time by doing that, though. I don't recommend it unless you have a drum sponsor. It's an amazing performance.
Chris is a machine. You probably knew this but for those that don’t, this is a one take video, hence the name, there’s no snapping in post he is a metronome, and as you put on the screen, no samples. Bloody brilliant. I want to be half this good
This dude is so fucking good. I don't see it as much in this video, his single hand rolls are above and beyond. From normal hitting a million ghost notes to full on gravity blasts.
Nothing better than watching somebody experience Chris for the first time so I can see some of the same reactions of appreciation and amazement I had 😆
He's from Oceans Ate Alaska which is a very progressive and heavy metalcore band. Their best song in my opinion is Escapist. Crazy tempo changes and sections
It has probably been done before but the fact that he does a lot of flams on the kick so incredibly clean on this track is just completely crazy to me. Like you said he just has a second pair of hands instead of feet.
time to do some August Burns Red 🔥 "Majoring in the Minors". they are one of the most interesting songwriting metal bands. plus any band that plays 300+ shows a year, year after year its clear why this band is so tight together! thanks for the channel! I enjoy the videos!
Or any of the playthrough from Matt Greiner. And talking about Matt, his Zildjian session is really worth looking into; a cool metal-fusion-jazz blend.
chris is in a band called oceans are alaska and they’ve been my favorite band for a few years now specifically because of chris. he’s INSANELY talented and more technical than any other drummer. definitely listen to more, you won’t regret it! also, this is probably my favorite reaction i’ve seen to this song and i’ve probably seen 6-7 by now, and honestly probably now my favorite reaction you’ve done! always love the way you explain things and i think you did an excellent job throughout this entire video!
Hey David, falling in reverse just released another reimagined song, the "I'm not a vampire" So before Imminence - infectious 🎻 you should check that one first.
I sincerely believe some People are born with a better understanding of music techniques, like skill points in an rpg. But this doesn't mean that he practiced a lot to reach this level; I just mean that others might not even get close because they lack the endurance and the special fire
The mix was done by the guitarist from I am Abomination, a band that had Chris perform on their most recent album.. and a band worth checking out for sure.
YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! 🤩🤗 YOU DID 40 ROLL. YAYYYY 🥰 Been sooo keen for your reaction to this, I knew you’d love it!! 😁🙌 Chris is a straight up BEAST 😈 I’m in awe every time I watch this. Robot human 🤯🦾 Cannot WAIT for the rest of the album 🥳
Nick is the guitarist for I Am Abomination and does their sound as well. Nick is one of the. Eat engineers in the game. He has done so many albums it’s insane.
That man is a ture savage, the bass technique of just stomping on the pedals and using/training the hip flexors to give you all the power and speed is wild, and what really makes chris stand out and make his feet as good as most drummers hands, loved the vid man. YOu should check out demolisher by slaughter to prevail or the drum playthrough of it, some more wild stuff. or some animals as leaders, the band matt gartska plays for, theyre all ridiculous musicians and its musicians heavan music
After you react to Aviations-Outliers a few others you might enjoy are Sleep Token-Blood Sport (from the room below), Make Them Suffer-Erase Me, and Imminence-Infectious. Really enjoy your reactions. Keep up the good work!
You said to write a song every day for thirty days- this is day 23: VERSE 1 & 2 How do you convince yourself with static on both ends, And determine how death will win, Nobody really knows how his wheels turn, All then the worst is assumed. How do you reason with you, As she stared beyond baby blues. Clocks are relentless, Driving her mad. Do you know the story of a Madman (story of a Madman) Or did you just hear her petty cries? Did you not stop to think about all the times? She must have had a fucking blast, Do you even know her past? VERSE 3, 4, & 5 Why do you look with fear in your eyes, The fire reflects in hers, That isn’t the anger you think you see, But her soul being burned. You hear she ran around drunk last night, Screaming on the top of her lungs. She watches all those memories, And that’s why she thinks life sucked. Don’t try to walk in her shoes, You may step in knives. Don’t try to carry the weight on her back, Or you’ll double over twice. Do you know the story of a Madman (story of a Madman) Or did you just hear her petty cries? Did you not stop to think about all the times? You should have listened to the story of a madman, story of a madman, Let her scream and vent, You should have shared the story of a madman, story of a madman, Ignorance is not bliss… You could you fucking miss… Something as simple as this…
The song "I'm Not A Vampire (Revamped)" from Falling In Reverse just got released and is absolutely stunningly good. You should really check this one out. It is very similar to the song "the drug in me is reimagined" that you liked to much, so I'm guessing you'll love this one too!
Great reaction as always - Chris Turner is a beast! Now as others have said, you NEED to listen to Aviations - Outliers! I listen to A LOT of music across different genres and this song is HANDS DOWN my favourite song of 2020. Extremely underrated and deserves a hell of a lot more recognition.
You should check out his new song Triggered! It features Thomas Lang and the song is really cool because they are both playing different drum parts throughout the song while keeping it cohesive. It's an extremely cool song.
As soon as I heard this I felt like I knew his work, then saw that he played for Oceans Ate Alaska. Such a distinct sound with his playing. I’d love to see your reaction to Hansha or Veridical from their album Hikari. They sample some trad Japanese instruments like the koto, very cool stuff.
really great review. I really like how you explain all the technical aspects that goes into drumming. I do believe though, that aside from practicing drums like crazy, Chris Turner does have a natural talent too. He has a feeling for how the drums sound and the how hard and where to hit for exactly the sound he wants, that doesn't just come from only practice. That being said. With Practice you can definitely get far, and he definitely clearly has practiced a lot to get this far.
Just FYI unfortunately he recently tore a ligament in his middle finger while rock climbing in a gym recently but he’s on his way to a recovery! But great review of this drummer. Absolutely impeccable drummer
you should check out Im Not A Vampire Revamped from falling in reverse, or their alternate version of The Drug in Me is you. Both could be a cool video to compare the original of either (which are VERY different)
Would love to see you react to ‘Can You Feel My Heart - BMTH - Live at Royal Albert Hall’. It’s an incredibly powerful performance and gives most people goosebumps and/or makes them cry (as you can see in the comment section), does this to me every time. It just overwhelms you with emotion. It’s my personal favourite from BMTH’s Royal Albert concert. I think you’d appreciate it seeing as you’re a BMTH fan now 😜
While she sleeps, my favourite band, recently released a new song from Thier upcoming album, the song is called "you are all you need" and I'd love to hear your thoughts, it's got a little bit of everything I've come to love about them
Obviously everybody appreciates how much for Alien Chris is………but this is the best drum reaction I’ve seen to his video. Someone that actually appreciates how amazing Chris is without saying oh, I could do it better or he did this wrong or that wrong or it’s fake, bla bla bla. Credit to your channel. 🙂
Falling in reverse just released a revamped version of their song I’m not a vampire I suggest you listen to the original first but you should give us a reaction I’d love to see it
I'm pretty sure everyone here will agree, you gotta react to Bleed by Meshuggah - Drum Cam You always talk about how the drums are the engine of the band. This engine is a V12
His drum sound is still as close to natural as possible. His engineer said he’s the only drummer he’s ever worked with where compression makes it worse. Flams on the kick blow me away. Don’t know many people who’ve even tried, esp at that speed.
Related to the passing of Chick Corea this week, you might want to react to (or even just listen to) Gary Valenciano's vocal version of "Spain" from Wish 107.5, which is a bus in the Philippines converted into a mobile radio station / recording studio.
I really wish you could have Matt Garstka on because I know how much you appreciate practice and what makes Matt such a cool guy is he’s one of the top drummers in the wold and he ALWAYS talks about how much he has to practice. I think y’all would have a lot to talk about
Thanks for watching man :) I'm glad you liked the song :)
I'll always be a follower of your work man! I'm a guitarist for about 5 years now but the day I saw your band and watched a lot of your drum playthroughs, now I also want to try out drums! KEEP IT UP MAN! GREAT WORK! You're an absolute machine!

YESSSS PLEASE 🙏 Defs want to see this 😁
@@MusicShed I second this. Would love to see this awesome channel get to that level with interviews of the people you’ve had on your channel already.
I wear my 40 roll shirt all the time! Cant wait to hear the record!
Chris is a god-tier drummer. He’s an embodiment of focus/practice/talent/passion manifested in pure physical strength. I can’t imagine the endurance and precision it takes to do it at this level. What sounds like absolute chaos to most is actually absolutely harmonious precision

Oh shit he played for I am Abomination?! Loved those cats back in the day
@@ristyeye He also plays for the band, Termina. Haha

2:38 “okay so let’s talk about a couple things so this guys a machine” 🤣
Great foot-work. I needed to take a nap after watching that performance!! LOL.
Sick! It's not aviations - Outliers YET, but Chris Turner is always Chris Turner
Need Aviations !!
This comment but from me. XD
I too eagerly await him to do Outliers
Stoked for an Outliers reaction!
100% needs to react to Outliers
Chris is a machine. You probably knew this but for those that don’t, this is a one take video, hence the name, there’s no snapping in post he is a metronome, and as you put on the screen, no samples. Bloody brilliant. I want to be half this good

Chris Turner is an Olimpic athlete on drums. Certain gold medal.
He's from Oceans Ate Alaska which is a very progressive and heavy metalcore band. Their best song in my opinion is Escapist. Crazy tempo changes and sections
Chris Turner is legit the drum king of metalcore. So happy I backed his crowdfunding on this record.
It has probably been done before but the fact that he does a lot of flams on the kick so incredibly clean on this track is just completely crazy to me. Like you said he just has a second pair of hands instead of feet.
HIGHLY recommend you listen to his full band Oceans Ate Alaska. Escapist would be my personal recommendation.
I’m glad you talked about the mixing engineer’s job. I’m an aspiring studio mixing engineer and it’s cool to see people compliment mixing.
It is quite a crucial role
Amazing content as always, one of the best drummers I’ve ever seen!
I loved the reaction and I like how you explained how the room and tuning makes the right sounds and all that very fun to watch!

Love how his biceps left you speechless at the end of the song 😂
Love this Chanel.
Hey David, falling in reverse just released another reimagined song, the "I'm not a vampire" So before Imminence - infectious 🎻 you should check that one first.
I come back to RUclips. And see this. I’ve been waiting for this reaction. So happy to see it!
I love when Chris Turner drops a song. You know your about to go for a ride.
Simply amazing. His footwork is just crazy good. What a machine.
I was literally listening to this song when i got the notification for your react xD

i just watched the video, and i thought that David should watch it too.... you where faster then me :)
A Night in Tunisia. Thanks to my dad for getting my into jazz when I was little.
Now you need check out the band he's in Oceans Ate Alaska. Escapist and Clocks are probably their best songs but tbh they are all sick. 👌
i wouldn’t say clocks is anywhere near their best however it is a classic.
Just check the new single.
I still recommend checking out Aric Improta's playthrough for Copper Wasp by Night Verses! One of my favorite drum playthrough videos
Aviations - Outliers!!!! come on!!! :)
YES!
Night in Tunisia! Arturo Sandoval playing it live is my favorite
Now we need some Oceans Ate Alaska Reactions!!!!
Watsky - Welcome To The Family is a great one.
For those of you who want the intro song, it's A Night in Tunisia.

Flams with the freaking feet! At that speed.
Amazing single stroke speed with feet
When you talk about the drums not normally sounding like that when they go into the mix, they really do, it's Chris Turner 🤣

You need to watch falling in reverse, I'm not a vampire revamp
Epic
One of the best drummers out there atm
Also! Check out his band Oceans Ate Alaska, same type of drum beats but crazier guitars
Just FYI unfortunately he recently tore a ligament in his middle finger while rock climbing in a gym recently but he’s on his way to a recovery! But great review of this drummer. Absolutely impeccable drummer

Finally Metal getting some credit. Nice Video!
You should definitely react to Luke Holland's Tendinitis playthrough. It's ESPECIALLY intricate and technical.
I really like how you referred to his feet as hands.
It all makes sense now... He IS an octopus android.
Falling In Reverse - "I'm Not A Vampire (Revamped)" please
This dude is sick. Also check out Alex Rudinger doing Xenochrist!
Definitely time to review some August Burns Red!

I think you’d appreciate it seeing as you’re a BMTH fan now 😜
Check out is song Heir to the throne I am abomination absolutely amazing Chris is the Drum kit..
While she sleeps, my favourite band, recently released a new song from Thier upcoming album, the song is called "you are all you need" and I'd love to hear your thoughts, it's got a little bit of everything I've come to love about them

I’m not a Vampire Revamped by Falling in Reverse!! Hurry!
Really hoping for a reaction to Jason Richardson - Tendonitis and Protest the hero - Bloodmeat
i highly recommend Necry Talkie - You Should Head North
Falling in reverse just released a revamped version of their song I’m not a vampire I suggest you listen to the original first but you should give us a reaction I’d love to see it
Loved the video dude! You gotta check out Luke Holland! His videos are amazingly put together and some really different choices of covers. 😁
I'm pretty sure everyone here will agree, you gotta react to Bleed by Meshuggah - Drum Cam
You always talk about how the drums are the engine of the band.
Ótima análise
Can you react to Chris' playthrough of 'Heir To The Throne'??
I really wish you could have Matt Garstka on because I know how much you appreciate practice and what makes Matt such a cool guy is he’s one of the top drummers in the wold and he ALWAYS talks about how much he has to practice. I think y’all would have a lot to talk about
Basically Chris is a highly developed self-learning machine and gone beyond human at this point
