Chris Turner "40 Roll" Instrumental | The Decomposer Lounge | Reaction Breakdown Session
Cris Turner 40 Roll Instrumental reaction
This was a one take with no drum triggers or snap to grid. Chris is an animal. no edits, no sound manipulation, no timing correction. just Chris doing what he does best. ....watch his playthrough of Escapist from his band Oceans Ate Alaska.
100% what he said... this is really just a huge flex on how godly Chris turner really is. If you are looking for the band content, he is with oceans ate Alaska.
They are a very good band but Chris is the x-factor in my opinion.
His play through of escapist is mind blowing. His gravity blasts are second to none
I also might add that he did the drums for one of "I am Abomination" album. Different style than OAA If y'all feel like listening to it.
@@connorbuell9180 dude the word flex is an understatement after his new "Triggered" video came out lol. Also its funny you mention Chris as the X factor i'd have to agree with that, i'm oddly not into OAA but i love his solo drum work and playthroughs for Oceans Ate Alaska. i feel like he could really push a guitarist like Tosin Abasi or shit even Guthrie Govan to his limits lol.
The High Horse playthrough as well.
I absolutely love the band Oceans Ate Alaska. It’s like classical music. Extremely technical and you have no idea where it’s going yet you oddly do. Their use of timing and metronome is insanely different and goes against the norm.
OAA as a band is technically as musicians the most underrated band in metal music.
It was actually filmed in one take, there are no triggers, no synths, nothing fake, and it was composed by Chris Turner. This guy is a machine and the most unique and incredible drummer out there. He has Recently released a new insane song "triggered" ft Thomas Lang and it is mind blowing🤟🤟
Well I guess we’ll all be recommending “triggered” from now on:p
Nothing wrong with that ;)
ruclips.net/video/zrcFQKyBkFI/видео.html
Ya. It's another level
I cant even fathom being as coordinated as this dude is
This is his first solo song ever. He drums for “Oceans Ate Alaska” but he is making his first solo album and this song was released to create hype and help get funding for more tracks to be made
Also this video is all acoustic sounds, no triggers and no quantization or snapping to the grid in a DAW
Maybe if you're talking about the drums. But there's definitely a lot of digital processing going on with the rest of it. To be clear I don't have any problem with that.
@@paramourcat He is specifically talking about the drums.
saw em live
Chris is the drummer for Oceans Ate Alaska, he is releasing a solo album and this is the lead single from that. 👌🏻👌🏻
This is one take and no cuts what so ever....this drummer is a beast and one of the best in the business
Jeeeeezus! This guy's a fricking machine 😳🤯💀
Wow, this guy is a monster! Just watching talented guys like this always blows my mind. Great choice Geebz.
Thank you, thank you... I'm an aussie former drummer I've been watching chris closely for a decade now... preaching to many how great his writing of music ie engineering.. if this was drumming Olympics he would deserve gold a complete athlete that is the sport and sole of drumming..
Thanks from down under for this... made me tear up having an individual of your knowledge to appreciate this moment.. many respects and kind regards jimmy
The highlights of any Geebz video are when something *REALLY* seems to just blow your mind and you mouth that "F*$k!" Every single time I see it I laugh and yell "Hell yeah!" That's what it's all about the casual listener or the consummate professional hearing something insane and having that reaction. Cheers
that was intense. very awesome, tight band work. want to hear more of this.
Much love brother, appreciate the expression of your interpretation. Putting words to my feelings.
Chris Turner is my favorite musician hands down. His band is Oceans ate Alaska but he's making a crowdfunded "solo" album right now. He plans to feature a lot of people on the album, and he JUST released another song called "triggered." You GOTTA hear it.
Thank you for what you do!
This is just awesome
Chris is a solid dude. If you were to message him on something you wanted to know he’d most likely respond to you. The engineer for this is the same guy that was used for his drums on I Am Abomination’s new album last year, and a quote of his stick in my head “Chris is the only drummer where compression makes him sound worse” The majority of what you’re hearing is Chris’s natural drum sound, this was done in one take, and his build is because his “real job” is being a climbing instructor where he mostly free climbs.
His whole thing now is one take with no edits or triggers, he’s just a god amongst men
40 Roll is the songs name and its just an instrumental no vocal version. Glad you enjoyed it as much as your audience probably does!
Love what you do my friend.
Cloud kicker - beacons
Never heard of this dude but as soon as that shit came in I thumbs up! Awesome sound, great drummer!
Its sooo gooooood. Cant wait for the album
I verbally said out loud, "Geebz 40 Roll must watch." Like I was programmed to watch this instantly lmaooo
Thanks for bringin us along on this journey to EVERYWHERE! :D
This is nuts! You'll enjoy it!
Gungrave or Remnant off of Erra's new self-titled album. I'm interested to see how you react to them! Did a search of your channel and noticed you haven't done a video on them yet. Love what you do!
While those are my two favorite songs, I feel like he'd dig Vanish Canvas the most. The new Erra album is absolutely going to be in the mix for my album of the year!
@@jacksonislegend Fair point. And I agree, honestly my favourite of theirs to date. It's no wonder they opted to self-title it. I'd be happy with anything off the album!
Another production of this level would be Copper Wasp by NightVerses.. Aric Improta their drummer is a beast, who has an amazing style
Yes!
pleeease i've been asking for this forever haha
Aloha, this is a step up from purple level, maybe gold!!! Insane talent these guys are...
Bizarrely talented
Chris is a robot. A human snap to grid tool.
Holy hell, 15 seconds in, and my face hath melted completely to the floor.....
You gotta do a reaction to Escapist by Oceans Ate Alaska!!
Yes, please do Escapist. You will thoroughly enjoy it! His playthrough for I Am Abomination's "Heir To The Throne" would also be awesome.
He will go on and on about random stuff and not focus on the perfection Chris is
Watch more of his drums videos they're a pleasure to watch every time.
This is why I love reaction channels, I always get to find out about amazing bands and artist I had no idea existed! Thank you Geebz!
And I don't know if this is a one time thing, but if you're digging into drum playthroughs I'd recommend checking out Alex Bent (currently Trivium's drummer), he's a goddamn monster on the drums. He has some playthroughs on his channel, I'd say check out "Beyond Oblivion" or "Betrayer". Maybe I'm a bit biased, since it's one of my favourite bands, but Trivium has some great tunes, I'd recommend checking them out as well. Keep on rocking!
Much love from Virginia Beach. Mahalo!
So glad I supported this project...can't wait for the album.
Watch his Sabian cymbal videos !!!
Totally off subject....Pantera has a song called “Floods” very unique for being a heavy metal band.
Mate i was listening to floods yesterday and was thinkibg of Geebz when Dime hits the Satriani like solo
Great call Steph, brilliant song and some of my all time favourite guitar work of Dime's.
Domination too. Will surely goober over Rex holding down Dimes mega drop.
@@donk3ypunchzero Has to be the live in Russia version, they fucking slayed the crowd that day.
@@donk3ypunchzero that’s one of my favorites!!
His band is "Ocean Ate Alaska". This song was his first solo project. He did drums for an album of a group called "I am Abomination". He just released a second solo track. Hope this clarifies things.
lol wild, i suggested this song like a month and a half ago on a whim. Pretty cool to see Chris getting some attention.
Love it!!! Let’s get that second Protest The Hero song going!
Lets get him to do From The Sky, then the rest of palimpsest haha
@@CheyEG and then everything else
It's insane to me just how much power this song puts into the lower guitars and bass. Every riff it sounds like they downtune more 😂
Chris just loves drums and wants to be the most drums drummer to ever drum. He uses brushes in some of his music, very diverse.
This is the first single of Chris Turner's solo project. He is in the band Ocean's Ate Alaska, and actually the guitarists of that band are also doing the guitar work on this track and I assume for the project in general. The style in this is very similar to Ocean Ate Alaska's style, although it is all centered around Chris Turner's drumming. Which is really cool! Great reaction/breakdown!
Chris plays in Oceans Ate Alaska. He has a few solo instrumental tracks out.
Hey Geebz! Chris Turner is part of a British Metalcore band called Oceans Ate Alaska and he has a huge love for Hip Hop/Grime music too. It's why the 808 style bass is heard throughout this playthrough! He is also a master of drum fills such as in his drum playthrough of 'Metamorph'. Oceans Ate Alaska has some solid records so you should definitely check them out in the future. If you head to Chris's youtube channel he has some other clips of him playing to other songs of his as well as the guitar and bass playthroughs if you are interested! Keep it up my man!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
If you were interested in reacting to more drum playthroughs at some point, check out these guys:
Baard Kolstad - Drummer for Leprous
Gavin Harrison - Drummer for Porcupine Tree/Pineapple Thief
Would really like to see him check out one of Baard's playthroughs. "Moon" would be a great one.
Great reaction! You gotta get back to Caligula's Horse! They have so many great songs. "Dream the Dead", "graves" or "bloom + marigold" are all fantastic and you'd love them for sure!
Fast flams with the feet! Lol this guy is ridiculous
RIGHT???
Mate, love your analysis of the songs. Fuckin awesome mate👍
Now you have entered the correct waters my friend!
Wow 😳.......
I had a similar first impression, just crazy! If I'm not mistaken, he recorded all the instruments by himself.
Cherry Waves by Deftones 👌
The word you were looking for was tempo modulation. Chris is a master of modulation, in my opinion. I agree with the one guy who said you should react to Oceans Ate Alaska "Escapist". It is the perfect example of what those guys do musically.
No triggers aswell. Amazing
Pretty sure this is Chris' first self produced album. He had a guitar and bass player come and he made them play what he wanted til it was right, then he obviously did what he does on drums and then mixed the album.
40 roll is Chris is solo project...his band is Oceans ate Alaska
I believe the Polyphia reference was on point. I think Chris works with Nick Sampson which also worked with Polyphia. Don't hold me to it but I worked with Nick on a project called Versus The Ocean years ago and I can tell you hes a hell of a musician and engineer. Cheers mate!
Song with great strings and production - “It’s a long way there” Little River Band
And a great solo. Awwwwwright!
If you like some crazy cymbals work check the
Mgła - Exercises in Futility V, drum cam.
Quite extreme music but the way how he handles the back beat on a drumroll is just outstanding to me.
I feel like this channel is due for some Mgla and Kriegsmaachine.
The bloke that does Polyphia's sound engineering did the engineering for Chris on this track.
You obviously don’t know who Chris turner is. This man does one take and uses no triggers. You went on and on about everything but the most amazing drummer ever. Wow.
You should see Dave Weckl’s solo at Montreal Drumfest 2012. Not for reaction video maybe but it's a must-see. Tastiest drum solo I've ever seen.
I watch most of your vids and understand that you have a lot of songs being thrown at you. I am very surprised you have not done Aviations - Outliers (retrospect) yet though. I think you would literally fall in love with the band. It has absolutely everything you could ever ask for composition wise. They're Berklee educated musicians and you should definitely not sleep on this one.
Yay drum playthroughs! Chris is damn fantastic! Would love watch your reaction to Kepler by Josh De La Victoria and Matt Garstka (I consider Matt as one of the greatest drummer rn)
I've got my 3.2mm wetsuit and my stimulus check and the water temp is at 59 degrees. I live in NC and I'm about to go surfing for the next 7 months.
Chris is such a beast, also you should totally check out The Moments In Between by Reign of Kindo.
Well that’s on a total different page but what a brilliant song that is!
You'd love his playthrough of "escapist" from his band oceans ate alaksa. That drum video is outstanding.
He's from a band called "Oceans ate Alaska". This is his solo side project
Chris plays in Oceans Ate Alaska. But he recently did session work with I Am Abomination(who has featured, and been featured on Polyphia).
The comment about it sounding akin to Polyphia is something I've never thought of before, but I definitely agree with what you're saying. And Polyphia's more hip hop-influenced stuff came a few years before this.
And I was Thinking, I ve to submit this song in a near future here lol. Good job! CHRIS pops a lot in many reviews of his videos. You might get lucky chit-chat ting with him. To sum up it s his solo project. He is part of Oceans ate Alaska.
In the future some baby metal road to resistance live maybe? Or Chrystal Lake, Apollo ? 😁
Chris Turner also played drums on I Am Abomination's latest release Passion Of The Heist 2. For anyone who hasn't checked it out, I highly recommend it. Musically similar to Oceans Ate Alaska with a bit of Polyphia tossed in for good measure. Keep rockin', folks 🤘
Be'lakor - The Smoke of Many Fires
You wanna hear some amazing china, check our Richie Martinez from the band Arch Echo
Why does geebz look like the heroic dose is getting the better of him watching this?
He's using those 'quiet spaces" by making a melody with them within the riff. If I remember correctly, Chris managed all of this video in a single take, which points toward him playing WITH the synth thingy. That was natural and tight. AMAZING!
Quote: "All drums are 100% natural sounds. No triggers or samples are used AT ALL, whether that be for replacing, backing or enhancing sounds in any way. Not one single hit is snapped to the grid either, OH and it was also all 1 take with no miming or pre-recorded audio/video....you get the point, it's all me baby 😎 "
Love your channel. This is my new place for new music. Recommendation: Killswitch Engage “The End of Heartache,” Thrice “The Earth Isn’t Humming,” Circa Survive “At Night It Gets Worse,”Dredg “Scissor Lock” or “Of the Room.”
Not sure if you would do another reaction to the same song but definitely worth you checking it out. There is another video playthrough of this song but focusing on the guitarist's track being played.
Geebz, check out Shiver by Vildhjarta (Wild Heart). They're an amazing progressive death metal/djent band from Sweden. You'd definitely dig them.
Oceans ate alaska! Chris does play thoughs of all there songs. Check em out. Thanks for the videos, keep em coming brother
I enjoy your breakdowns my man! New sub for sure! I think you might like to check out a band called belakor. The entire album called Stones Reach! Amazing from beginning to end I swear. One of few albums I can listen to from beginning to end without feeling the need to skip anything.
Edit: or for something completely different, the band Myrath and the album, Sands Of Time!
Edit: sorry lol, I forgot about angel vivaldi! An erisian spring or, a Martian winter. Animals as leaders c.a.f.o, lol.
Sycamour isnt together anymore I think. But, obcsura la deuxime is a sick album too. Nooses on the looses, rain, bloodshot, all great songs. They even did a cover of fire in the rain by adele. It was amazing! A Technical melodic death metal band that you might enjoy is called archspire! A song called seven crowns and the oblivion chain! Amazing!
Ohh the band he's from is oceans ate Alaska
Check out the band called The Aristocrats live song called Bad Asteroid! Thank you!!
If you're doing drum play throughs, please, please do Danny Carey playing Pneuma and Thomas Haake playing Clockworks. It really opened up both songs to me.
He's done both :)
Please react to Chris Turner's drum playthrough of Escapist from his band Oceans Ate Alaska!!!
Not sure if you'll go this heavy but they're a technical juggernaut in the metal scene. Would love to see a breakdown of Brand of Sacrifice - Animal
No one can do what Chris can do on the kick drums
Was hoping you would do a reaction to Chris Turner and it's finally here :)
Please react to the band Project MishraM's song 'Kanakana ft. Kmac2021' . They have a blend of Indian classical (Carnatic) and metal and I'm sure you'll love them!
Love me some Oceans Ate Alaska
You should listen to Vanish Canvas or Shadow Autonomous by ERRA! They are fantastic!!
Wait, long meditative music? Well why didn’t ya say so....Tool-Reflection!!
I’m going to find a way to work it in LMFAO 🤘😎🤘
As a drummer my legs dont understand what they watched!! 👀
Man oh man, if you like this, you have to check out Luke Holland and Jason Richardson's "Tendonitis". Chris and Luke are beyond comprehension as drummers.
5 most inventive drummers in metal right now; Aric Improta, Mario Dulpantier, Eloy Cassegrande, Matt Gartska and THE man Chris Turner
Chris Turner Thomas Lang "Triggered". DO IT. Just released not too long ago.
Straight out live one take no extras naked sound..... Unbelievable
Are you opposed to reacting to anime composers? If not, I'd highly recommend Yoko Kanno's work - most specifically from Cowboy Bebop. It's most well known for it's iconic bop style jazz intro, "Tank!," but I'd suggest "Space Lion" if given the chance. It's a very cathartic, yet heavily impactful piece that really showcases Kanno's ability to blend musical influences together. Or if you want a really crazy, fun ride, "Bad Dog No Biscuit" is a jam.
I'd also highly recommend checking out Hiroyuki Sawano, most notably known for his work on Attack on Titan. I'd recommend "YOUSEEBIGGIRL/T:T" or "ətˈæk 0N tάɪtn <WMId>". His work in this series is very electronic, orchestral rock. I think it would be something that you'd like.
Ok this is a face melter.
never expected this here, but as many ppl said it´s his solo project, he did not play the guitars and stuff, but he explanied the process in another video, like he "sang" what he wanted the guitar to sound like and his friend tired to play it that way. on the 2nd of April he will be releasing the second song of this record called "triggered". he does this videos in one take until hes satisfied this one was take 2 out of 3 :)
It is propably mixed but he as also many ppl said, no tiggers, no sound replacement samples on the drums nothing snapped to grid to fit the timing and one take, because that´s how live music should be played (chris words not mine :)) I watched a ton of reactions about this^^
about the "traps" chris is a huge low base hip hop fan, so he mixed the stuff together he likes most
