This was a one take with no drum triggers or snap to grid. Chris is an animal. no edits, no sound manipulation, no timing correction. just Chris doing what he does best. ....watch his playthrough of Escapist from his band Oceans Ate Alaska.
100% what he said... this is really just a huge flex on how godly Chris turner really is. If you are looking for the band content, he is with oceans ate Alaska. They are a very good band but Chris is the x-factor in my opinion. His play through of escapist is mind blowing. His gravity blasts are second to none
@@connorbuell9180 dude the word flex is an understatement after his new "Triggered" video came out lol. Also its funny you mention Chris as the X factor i'd have to agree with that, i'm oddly not into OAA but i love his solo drum work and playthroughs for Oceans Ate Alaska. i feel like he could really push a guitarist like Tosin Abasi or shit even Guthrie Govan to his limits lol.
I absolutely love the band Oceans Ate Alaska. It’s like classical music. Extremely technical and you have no idea where it’s going yet you oddly do. Their use of timing and metronome is insanely different and goes against the norm. OAA as a band is technically as musicians the most underrated band in metal music.
It was actually filmed in one take, there are no triggers, no synths, nothing fake, and it was composed by Chris Turner. This guy is a machine and the most unique and incredible drummer out there. He has Recently released a new insane song "triggered" ft Thomas Lang and it is mind blowing🤟🤟

This is his first solo song ever. He drums for “Oceans Ate Alaska” but he is making his first solo album and this song was released to create hype and help get funding for more tracks to be made Also this video is all acoustic sounds, no triggers and no quantization or snapping to the grid in a DAW
Maybe if you're talking about the drums. But there's definitely a lot of digital processing going on with the rest of it. To be clear I don't have any problem with that.
The highlights of any Geebz video are when something *REALLY* seems to just blow your mind and you mouth that "F*$k!" Every single time I see it I laugh and yell "Hell yeah!" That's what it's all about the casual listener or the consummate professional hearing something insane and having that reaction. Cheers
Chris Turner is my favorite musician hands down. His band is Oceans ate Alaska but he's making a crowdfunded "solo" album right now. He plans to feature a lot of people on the album, and he JUST released another song called "triggered." You GOTTA hear it. Thank you for what you do!
Gungrave or Remnant off of Erra's new self-titled album. I'm interested to see how you react to them! Did a search of your channel and noticed you haven't done a video on them yet. Love what you do!

@@jacksonislegend Fair point. And I agree, honestly my favourite of theirs to date. It's no wonder they opted to self-title it. I'd be happy with anything off the album!
Chris is a solid dude. If you were to message him on something you wanted to know he’d most likely respond to you. The engineer for this is the same guy that was used for his drums on I Am Abomination’s new album last year, and a quote of his stick in my head “Chris is the only drummer where compression makes him sound worse” The majority of what you’re hearing is Chris’s natural drum sound, this was done in one take, and his build is because his “real job” is being a climbing instructor where he mostly free climbs.

He has some playthroughs on his channel, I'd say check out "Beyond Oblivion" or "Betrayer". Maybe I'm a bit biased, since it's one of my favourite bands, but Trivium has some great tunes, I'd recommend checking them out as well. Keep on rocking!

This is the first single of Chris Turner's solo project. He is in the band Ocean's Ate Alaska, and actually the guitarists of that band are also doing the guitar work on this track and I assume for the project in general. The style in this is very similar to Ocean Ate Alaska's style, although it is all centered around Chris Turner's drumming. Which is really cool! Great reaction/breakdown!
Great reaction! You gotta get back to Caligula's Horse! They have so many great songs. "Dream the Dead", "graves" or "bloom + marigold" are all fantastic and you'd love them for sure!
His band is "Ocean Ate Alaska". This song was his first solo project. He did drums for an album of a group called "I am Abomination". He just released a second solo track. Hope this clarifies things.
The word you were looking for was tempo modulation. Chris is a master of modulation, in my opinion. I agree with the one guy who said you should react to Oceans Ate Alaska "Escapist". It is the perfect example of what those guys do musically.
Hey Geebz! Chris Turner is part of a British Metalcore band called Oceans Ate Alaska and he has a huge love for Hip Hop/Grime music too. It's why the 808 style bass is heard throughout this playthrough! He is also a master of drum fills such as in his drum playthrough of 'Metamorph'. Oceans Ate Alaska has some solid records so you should definitely check them out in the future. If you head to Chris's youtube channel he has some other clips of him playing to other songs of his as well as the guitar and bass playthroughs if you are interested! Keep it up my man!
It's insane to me just how much power this song puts into the lower guitars and bass. Every riff it sounds like they downtune more 😂 Chris just loves drums and wants to be the most drums drummer to ever drum. He uses brushes in some of his music, very diverse.

Chris Turner also played drums on I Am Abomination's latest release Passion Of The Heist 2. For anyone who hasn't checked it out, I highly recommend it. Musically similar to Oceans Ate Alaska with a bit of Polyphia tossed in for good measure. Keep rockin', folks 🤘

Polyphia definitely came first as far as comparing the styles. This is a solo project that Chris did. He is the drummer for a metal band called Oceans Ate Alaska. I don't know exactly how long they have been around, but they also don't sound like this. What you're feeling is reminiscent is thr song G.O.A.T that you did a reaction to. Ok, I shouldn't have listened to this before bed. I'm jacked! Geebz, I have a wonderful song here from the finnish/english prog band, Wheel. Opening track off their new album 'Resident Human'. Edit: sorry lol, I forgot about angel vivaldi! An erisian spring or, a Martian winter. Animals as leaders c.a.f.o, lol.
Sycamour isnt together anymore I think. But, obcsura la deuxime is a sick album too. Nooses on the looses, rain, bloodshot, all great songs. They even did a cover of fire in the rain by adele. It was amazing! A Technical melodic death metal band that you might enjoy is called archspire! A song called seven crowns and the oblivion chain! Amazing!
It definitely has the same feel with the chimey melody.
Osiah - Plague World or Humanimals please, either would be amazing.
You obviously don’t know who Chris turner is. This man does one take and uses no triggers. You went on and on about everything but the most amazing drummer ever. Wow.
Ohh the band he's from is oceans ate Alaska
Ok, I shouldn't have listened to this before bed. I'm jacked!
Geebz, I have a wonderful song here from the finnish/english prog band, Wheel. Opening track off their new album 'Resident Human'. These guys I believe will be the band that receives the "Tool Torch" when those guys are done.

...Wheel, or Intronaut. Hopefully both!
Checkout Yogev Gabay's drum cover of Szerencsétlen a track by electronic artist Venetian Snares
Hi! You should react the band called Pangaea. Songs: Survival guilt, black tower!
Check out Aric Improta - copper wasp
Old polyphia wasn’t what they are now. They’re first EP was amazing. Impassion and aviator ft Jason Richardson are my two fav songs from them.
Chris is the drummer in oceans are Alaska. They’re known for their unorthodox time signatures and just overall technical musicianship. They call them 4/32 crew bc of the time sigs they play
If you're exploring different sounds and music styles you should react and decompose Libertango by Astor Piazzolla
Matt Garstka and Josh de la Victoria's "Iris" for a cool instrumental track!
